unfortunately cups has genuinely become one of my favorite masters despite (or maybe even because of) how little canon information we have about it. its very own noman chooses to impersonate mirrors rather than having its own identity. it has control over clocks in the neath because it may-or-may-not be trying to control time itself. it refuses to give the nemesis PC "the disrespect of an apology" despite otherwise begging for its life. it's one of probably very very few curators to even consider the concept of ""spring cleaning"" for its hoard. it's a trash panda. it's a murderer. it's so insufferably self-aggrandizing it's absurd. it's writing evil fanfiction with the nemesis PC as the 7th in a long line of equally tortured rpf blorbos and everyone else just had to deal with that. the outline of cups as a character is fascinating and alas i am enraptured to the point where i kinda regret letting caeru murk it

okay controversial take. fallen london and the expanded setting is like the opposite of homestuck lore. homestuck is like a frog boiling in water, where if you read along, all the wild twists make perfect sense in the order you're exposed to it. it's only if you approach it from a larger perspective (like trying to explain it to a newcomer) that it comes across batshit.

fallen london never stops having those moments even if you have been here the whole time and consumed the entire wiki and three games worth of lore. sometimes you've been here for years and still get sucker punched by "what do you mean, the gods' true foe is eye-eating spiders". it never stops.

SO UH………………………….. SAMUEL GOT, BURIED ALIVE, IN FALLEN LONDON………….. what a horrifying delight. a little treat just for me. OBVIOUSLY I HAD TO DRAW THIS

(rambling about Fallen London ambitions under the cut)

SO YEAH THIS HAPPENED DURING MY AMBITION -- I ended up finally picking Light Fingers, the "steal a huge diamond" ambition, DESPITE SAM'S ABSOLUTE WORST STATS BEING SHADOWY AND PERSUASIVE LMAO. I was waffling on choosing for a while, until a friend found one-sentence summaries of each ambition's tone that described Light Fingers as the one that turns into horror, which like…. I can't resist flinging sam into a horror story…… and it's surprisingly easy to make the ambition pretty canon for him, tbh -- "Someone you knew sent word that they knew how to get rich in the Neath, and you followed them, but now that you're out of prison they're nowhere to be found." While stealing giant jewels isn't Samuel's passion or anything, his main reason for coming to London was to escape a life in the church that he saw confining him more and more, and thinking he had a friend with a plan down here might've made it seem less like an impulsive nonsense idea. It works better than I expected!!

Anyway IF YOU FAIL ENOUGH TIMES ON ONE PART OF THE AMBITION you can get caught and THIS HAPPENS??????? ITS THE BEST!!!!!! One of the guys involved in the horrors does threaten to bury you alive if you keep sticking your nose into his business (since just murdering you isn't as effective in a world where death doesn't stick), buT WHAT A HORRIFYING SURPRISE TO HAVE IT ACTUALLY HAPPEN!!!! They give you a bunch of options and it's all stuff like "SCREAM" and "SCRABBLE AT THE LID," all of which Samuel attempted to no avail. i love this game so much,

was trying to figure out how to explain fallen london lore in simultaneously the most esoteric and also completely accurate way possible. so i created these beautiful images. you're welcome. funny browser game :)

The lack of secrecy about the Neath compared to how dire it is the Neath remain hidden is so funny. The Neath seems like a lab built with no extraneous variables: sealed from the surface and the high wilderness, locked very tightly away. If another Judgement saw Sol's Shame Cellar, everything would be destroyed. It must remain secret.

.....However. In some unknown order, approximately every misfit in existence quickly moved in. The Avid Horizon was made and the Bazaar busted in with a bunch of bats and freak aliens. Sol's granddaughter opened the mirrors and that might be how the majority of devils moved in. The Is-Not is now solidly next door. There's at least one dead dragon and another one dying. The White already knows. Salt climbed in and took a left turn out of reality. There's an underwater eye-door belonging to an angry Halved god. If you head west there is(n't) another Judgement lurking.

Sol this experiment's data is ruined. Sol your basement is infested have you even noticed cities keep disappearing
