The Mirror Image

As you return to your lodgings, you see your daughter standing in front of the mirror. In the reflection her father is just barely visible, his red mask sticking out the most. Even with it on you are reminded of just how much she looks like him. You can hear them talking.

You hesitate to show yourself, but you don't want to leave them alone for too long. You never like the ideas he puts in her head.

Alright, so yesterday I made a post asking the FL community about their thoughts on a post-Light Fingers fankid. Since everyone who responded was pretty supportive, I decided to go ahead and draw some art to show what I had in mind.

I introduce everyone to Tyria, daughter of Poor Edward and my pc Emery Ender. Emy named her after the Cinnabar Moth with little input from his "husband." She's a pretty quiet and skittish kid as both parents are very protective of her with different reasons and methods. She was also a bit spoiled throughout childhood, with Emery ensuring that she had little to want for. She loves both of her parents deeply, but even she can tell there's something off about the love that they share.

Since the Hybrid looks so much like Emery- and we'll get to them later-, I figured Emery's other blood child should take mostly after her father in appearance, most notable being his blonde hair, which is styled in Judy Garland/Dorothy-esque pigtails. That said, she did inherit Emery's green eyes and the gene for freckles.

By the way I am aware that Tyria shouldn't be able to have freckles given she's almost certainly never been exposed to sunlight. But I wanted to give Tyria something to keep her distinct, so- freckles. Considering this is a place with fungal snow there's probably something that could have sparked their emergence. I also considered giving her dimples but that didn't work out.

Now I don't know how much more I'll post about Tyria. Mainly because I still have a long ways to go in Light Fingers and Emery might change a lot in the meantime, so I don't want to make any solidifications for what she'll be like by the time Tyria's born and running around. I don't know if she's even necessarily canon for my fanworks, but we'll see I suppose.

Oh and here's a bonus doodle based off this post that cracked me up. Thank you to @anannoyanceofjackofsmiles for letting me borrow Samuel.

(Sidenote Emery probably knows they're afab, she's a scientist for pete's sake. I just thought it would be funny if Emery went all this time not knowing.)

NIGHTMARES IS INCREASING...

Samuel is dealing with the horrors just fine! hes fine. just needs a lil laudanum to take the edge off. Just a little, tiny, several bottles of laudanum,

wheezes and collapses HI HELLO I HAVE FINALLY FINISHED..... THIS!!!!.... I don't know what possessed me to make this out of pixels but im v pleased with how it came out!!

At some point during Light Fingers I finally grabbed some laudanum to help with nightmares before some zee trip or other, and discovered that once you're Important, taking laudanum gives you "A Less Than Laudable Laudanum Habit" and that the initial, normal result is locked once your habit gets over level three. Naturally, I HAD TO KNOW.... WHAT HAPPENED AT OTHER LEVELS.....

I'd also decided to finally do the rest of the Watchful MYN at University, which I'd already heard about from several friends as a place where you are constantly going insane from the mundane stress of just, like, uncooperative witnesses while trying to solve a murder. The timing ended up perfect -- Samuel just coming back from the horrors of the Orphanage in Light Fingers and Trying To Be Normal And Hold Down A Normal Job For A Bit, and maybe just a lil laudanum to keep it together for class, and when withdrawal is ratcheting up everything, some annoyances like "can't find info for your murder investigation" might just tip you over the edge,

hilariously he hit level 8 on the laudanum habit -- helpfully labelled "a wretched slave to the hellish stuff" and the point where it stops working altogether -- IMMEDIATELY before running into a step of light fingers where you have to get rid of all your nightmares before you can proceed. HAHA OOPS.

ANYWAY HE STILL HAS IT BECAUSE IT TURNS OUT, IT TAKES A REALLY REALLY LONG TIME, TO KICK A LAUDANUM HABIT...... i, uh, dont recommend giving urself a laudanum addiction but narratively im having a great time lmao

i think what the thing with the actual light fingers tie-in in the gate of misers is is that crow melusine has spent years idealizing and fantasizing about the hybrid, but in their imagination it's always the same child it was when they had to send it away. it's their baby that they've thought a hundred thousand times about raising, about caring for, about teaching and playing with. so encountering the young miser calves, it's very very easy to project those fantasies, to fill in the gaps with new observations of How It Might Have Been

but the hybrid isn't a baby anymore. i think in cm's timeline it'll have been 5-7 years, i'm not sure yet (if this is what gets me to let them crack the 40 mark... they were 35-ish in their light fingers, i'm thinking? it might be time to unfreeze them and set them at 42 right now), but all the tie-ins so far seem to me to depict that the hybrid has reached miser maturity by now, although this will be the first one i'm allowing to be canon for cm.

regardless, finally meeting the hybrid again and it's all grown up... it's gonna be rough for cm. a final end to those fantasies - that they always knew were impossible, and yet, the heart wants... but now they have to live with the fact that their child is a real person and standing in front of them, and they don't really know it at all. and it's nothing like what they dreamed. and the time lost really is, finally, truly, completely, lost forever. and that's not even getting into introducing it to its LITTLE SIBLING...
