Al-Ajaweed Band is a group made up of Black/Afro-Palestinians from the Baq'a Refugee Camp in Jordan. They’re known for being some of the best at dabka!
(linked because the tunnel of quote tweets has more dance videos)

1972
The second track I'm sharing today, Alfana by Attarazat Addahabia & Faradjallah, had me in stitches when I pieced its musical lineage together.
As I immersed myself in this Moroccan groove, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it sounded familiar. Then it hit me: "Tout L’Amour que J’ai Pour Toi" by Au Bonheur des Dames. (1988)
But the story doesn’t stop there. Digging deeper, I uncovered that the thread winds back even further—to none other than Beethoven’s Für Elise! From 19th-century classical elegance to 70's Moroccan funk, it’s a fascinating journey of how music transcends genres and eras.
Oh, and here’s Dalida’s take on it from 1959—another piece of the puzzle!

We’ve already had an oh so serious discussion about the ethnicities of Kirby characters, what about Sonic characters? Like Sonic being coded as afro-arab?
(Stemming from his ancsestors being egyptian, canonically being able to read arabic, his inspiration from Michael Jackson, etc)
THIS TIMES A BILLION YEAH YEAH
Literally love all those little details about him and his friends as well. It’s so cool to see all the human designs of Sonic characters stemming from all different cultural backgrounds. Personally one of my all time favorite thangs ever.
Love to either head canon Shadow or Rouge as Latino. Mexican Shadow go brrrrr hsjshshhs omg he’s just like me fr fr
Same with how knuckles is Jamaican inspired, with his colors being the same as the Rastafarian flag which is beyond cool. But also with the echidna tribe having Mescoamerican origins as well, LIKE YEAHHH LETS GO????? My ancestors would be so happy with Knuckles come on shjshshsh.
Same thing with Blaze, her design being very Southern Asian inspired as well— noticeably her bindi aka the mark on her forehead as well as her whole kingdom having a very distinctive architecture.
Silver is Italian 🇮🇹 100%

bless your heart anon – it's okay, i hope that you do take the time to do a little read into the region - it's actually really interesting!
and you know, here's a fun fact i've noticed a lot about people from iran and iraq specifically - the majority of my iranian friends prefer to introduce themselves as "persian" before they say "iranian" - it's kind of funny - and my dad, who's iraqi, much prefers to introduce himself as "babylonian" rather than iraqi - i think it's so interesting to see - that they're not eager to claim the nationality that has been carved out for them by the modern day division of the middle east (as per the sykes–picot partition imposed by the british), but are so proud to proclaim their heritage based on the greater history of their regions and their people. i think it's interesting, i think it's interesting. maybe i should start introducing myself as babylonian, like my dad. sumerian, actually, i think. i've always been so interested in sumerian culture specifically,, (it was one of my special interests, at a time!) and i've done so many research and art projects based in that history... ough. i should get back into it, maybe.

thats why it hurts my brain too when ppl have intense ass arguments abt what race specific "hard to classify" groups are
the balkans are just one example of this bc weve been considered a bunch of shit throughout history and we exist in a weird position always but. there are So Many ethnic groups and regions of the world which are like this
and ppl will go on entire things with the upmost seriousness trying to "race" whatever ethnicity when its like....... dude do you not understand.... does the entire argument itself not make you see.... this is all made up and this conversation makes no damn sense bc there isnt actually any sort of biological basis that this shit is based on ,, ,,, race is Largely some bullshit made up for the sake of oppression and youre trying So Hard to shove ppl into it instead of understanding the complexities of the situation...why..... pls stop
