Something I miss from earlier eras of the creative side of the internet was things just being unabashedly low-budget. Just all unashamedly amateur, unprofessional, ‘I don’t own a good camera but I have a story to tell you’, ‘I can’t afford a good mic but I have a song to sing for you,’ ‘I don’t have any kind of background in editing or lighting and I only just picked up this guitar last Tuesday but here’s an entire musical me and my friends wrote about our favourite book, we filmed it on a potato and put it up on YouTube in ten minute segments because we thought it was pretty funny.’

#everything felt so much less like Content then #and as someone who wants to share creative stuff online #it’s now incredibly daunting thinking about doing that bc #especially as a disabled person who can’t work full time #it feels almost impossible to extricate art from being Content #like there’s this immense pressure to produce things that could pass as professionally produced by a team of educated people #and to make smart decisions so that somehow eventually you can profit off your art #and instead of it being a ‘hey look at my silly little song’ it becomes #competing in an over saturated market already dominated by the nepotism afforded by wealth and connections #and it feels like it would very difficult not to measure my personal satisfaction with how a certain piece of art turned out #by how much attention it got online #even though I genuinely have zero desire to be famous and it sounds like a complete nightmare #anyway I’m gonna have ice cream for dinner how about you guys #hmp42

do you guys fucking remember when music artists actually made or commissioned people to make song/album art for them instead of resorting to ugly ass AI slop?

i swear, it's always the artists with more money too. bring me the horizon keeps using AI art even though they basically shit money. incredibly popular artists that can very well pay artists using AI images to reduce costs. actually fucking sucks so bad. it just makes your song stand out way less

Was reminded tonight that vnc volume 10 also had a special edition that came with an artbook, but I was way too broke to consider buying it at the time.

Bad realization to my make vis a vis international shipping charges.

#so im gonna be a lil bitch on main for a minute #ive been offline for a while #pretty much absent from all my socials #im in a pickle financially like i have no money anywhere #my credit cards are maxxed #my bank account is negative 400 dollars #im getting 20 dollars less in disability benefits a month without a clear reason for the witholding #granted its only 20 bucks less but that still makes a huge difference when thats my ONLY source of income #AND i am moving into a new apartment which should be an exciting experience finally moving out of my parents house and on my own and all BUT #even with the voucher program i would need an additional 600 to be able to afford my rent share and utilities #on top of being negative 400 dollars a month so now thats -1000 #WHICH end result and the crux of this whole rant #i can no longer help #like i am fucking useless right now and people are literally dying #i have many unanswered asks from gazans right now that I cannot even help bc im so broke #it feels really bad bruv like reallybad #feels like absolute shit #and it ust feels so wrong to ask for help when others need it more #like i dont think i could do that #wtf man #is it me upset that my entire disability check goes to bills to the point where i overdraft every month? yeah sure #my art does not sell and ive tried everything! like it just DOES NOT sell #and it all kinda boils down to me not having any sort of following online #i just breached 200 followers here after 13 years on this website #most are inactive blogs from years ago so i maybe have like... 10 active followers?#whiny usamerican rant over for now #delete later

#seriously i have no idea how people do it in person out of person online offline it makes no damn difference #everyone coos over my stuff but i can rarely even give my shit away for free when i offer so like...#and i appreciate that it is niche and stuff but sometimes...sometimes i am just fucking tired guys...#as much as i love the idea of doing more art booths.... i cannot afford $60-100 table fees if I'm only doing at most $50 in sales...#and i just want to go out for something to do but that's not feasible because of the table fees #so.... idk.... this experience has been good but also frustrating #i am just happy that most of my nonart supplies were gotten for cheap or at least on various points programs so it wasnt actually as out of #pocket but like.... wow to say i am both in wild amounts of pain AND highly discouraged is an understatement

The only thing I need tumblr to do is to get like... cool with the idea you can hire people here to do commissions for you and to like.. consider monetary support for artists cuz one of the reasons and the biggest reason I moved to twitter in the first place is because people there buy my art. I make a living there doing art. And the vibe here is **we don't do that here** If you want artists to be here and do art you gotta be okay with the concept of artists trying to make money. I hate capitalism as much as the next person but I'm also 30 years old living with my fucking parents because I can't pay for a 1 bedroom apartment. Artists are not 'big business'. We're not Disney. We're just people trying to make a living or some money for groceries and shit.

#i love to buy commissions when i can afford it or when i see someone's posting something cute for sale.#I've also asked my favorite artists if they have an online store or if they're doing commissions and usually it's no.#like probably one of my more expensive commissions i bought I'm in a discord server for their art and i had to move SO SO fast to secure a #slot. so idk. like Yes part of it is a lot of ppl want to but don't have a lot of disposable income but part of it too is it just not being #clear who has a shop and who's actually actively taking commissions. I've also been burned on here and had someone take #$100-$200 without ever giving me the actual commissions so i think since then I've been a Bit more hesitant 😬 but i also have saved links #on my calendar for next payday bc i saw some cute stuff i wanted to buy floating around on here.#i don't think this assessment is wrong but i do feel like there's a huge disconnect between artists actively selling and ppl trying to buy.#except for accounts with followings so huge it doesn't matter bc if they post they're open ppl will jump for it like i did in discord.#🤔 i think two key things that are missing from tumblr as a platform is 1. a way to signal @everyone that you're taking comms and 2. a #List type functionality where all the art accounts we follow can have their own little dedicated dashboard so open comm posts aren't “lost #in the noise” so to speak. I think there are changes that could be made to tumblr itself as a platform if it wanted to help its art #community more. I know there are plans in the works for letting users sell their physical products but I'd love to have better #organization and portfolios n indicators etc for ppl who sell things digitally. idk.#there is a conversation to be had here and things that could be changed/added.
