Dazai doesnt belong in the pm. he never did. heres why

in the pm, dazai calls chuuya his "dog". akutagawa is referred to as "the rabid dog of the port mafia". when we first meet akutagawa, he calls higuchi "a useless cur" (cur means an agressive dog or one in poor condition). we can see that the port mafia is full of dogs.

in The Day I Picked Up Dazai, oda refers to seeing dazai as a stray cat (i think). almost every headcanon associates dazai with being a black or stray (or both) cat.

and then we have the ada.

one of their employees litterly turns into a tiger. the president is obsessed with cats.

in the pm, dazai was a stray cat in a den of dogs. thats why he fits in/cares about the ada. he fits there, feels at home.

that must be why when atsushi gets a pastry from the cafe underneath the agency's office, he eats half and gives the rest to ranpo

it must be why he takes the best parts of his dish when the ada is together and places them onto the corner of dazai's plate instead

or why he always happens to buy yosano's favorite snacks to share with her

or why when he meets runs into the black lizard he splits his food further to give gin some too

or why he brings any 'new' and interesting snack he finds for lucy to try too

or why he splits everything when he's with aku between them, why he sees him in the cold and rushes over to give him his cup of hot chocolate and wrap his scarf around him

it must be why he packs dazai's lunch or invites him for breakfast

why he hosts or proposes dinner or lunch together with the ada

why he spends all night trying to perfect kyouka and kunikida's favorite dishes

or why he spent so long baking a funny looking cake that probably didn't taste too good but ranpo liked anyway

or why he keeps junichiro's favorite energy drinks in stock even though kyouka and him dont drink them

or why he learns all the cute food designs naomi eyes

or why he keeps an extra portion of everything to give to kenji

or why he brings the president tea in the morning

or why akutagawa knows that when he cant bring himself to eat -- too worried about what will happen if he runs out -- he can go to atsushi for a cup of tea now and meal later if he's up to it

Atsushi ignores him and jumps off the door aiming for the cupboard. He hits his head on the cupboard and falls down.

Junichiro:... Are you okay?!

Fukuzawa: Why is Atsushi hissing at the microwave?

Ranpo: throughly amused It beeped at him.

Atsushi hisses and swatting the microwave until it beeps again and he tries to bite it.

Ranpo bursts out of laughing and Fukuzawa hides a smile.

Dazai: Kuuunikida!!! Atsushi bit mee!

Kunikida: What did you do?

Dazai: I am appalled that you would even suggest that I would do anything to deserve such cruelty!

Kunikida: Dazai. What. Did. You. Do.

Dazai: Okay so maybe I woke him while he was asleep with a cucumber.

Kunikida: sighs And where is he now?

Dazai: I dunno he jumped out the window.

Kunikida:... WHAT?!

Do you think that during the two years between Dazai joining the ada and the start of the series he would read the newspaper to keep an eye on mafia dealings and would just get second hand embarrassment.

Like, "Don't enter into that deal, it's a scam and you know it."

"Who the Hell hired the lemon guy?!"

"No Akutagawa, do not blow up another police station, that's the third one this month."

"Ace? So can anyone just become an executive now?!?"

Chuuya: *leaving Dazai's room through the window and flying off* Akutagawa: *leaves Atsushi's room using Rashomon to slink into an alleyway* Mori: *walks quickly out of Fukuzawas room with a black trench coat and a big hat* Kouyou: *Kisses Yosano at her door and strolls calmly to the street and into a car*

I truly think that one of the biggest tragedies in BEAST in regards to the Akutagawa siblings is that, at the core of it, Ryuunosuke viewed himself as a beast, and showed his love in a way a beast would, while Gin was the only person who ever saw him as human and judged him accordingly. She did not see a beast acting like a beast, the way everybody else did, she saw a human acting like a beast and it’s part of what drove her away.

The ADA saw their rookie detective at his worst, and watched—and continues to watch—him grow from a beast to a human over time. Consumed by hatred and only knowing how to be cruel, and slowly learning how to become human.

Gin saw her brother at his best—the best he could be in their situation—and then watched him grow from a boy to a beast within moments. The scraps of humanity that he had, all disappearing into rage so primal it no longer made him seem human.

times are peaceful around yokohama but the ada and pm aren't exactly on truce. they're technically obligated to continue fighting over territory and control over yokohama even if neither side wants to.

akutagawa is about to break the ada communal coffee machine on mori's orders. chuuya grabs him by the collar (for 0.002 seconds. or maybe somewhere else idk it's not important) and whispers that if that damn coffee machine breaks, the ada will fight back 1000x harder.

"how do you know?"

"the coffee is damn good."

(dazai's made him coffee in the morning after a night of fighting . . . over how messy his dorm is. chuuya knows how attached everyone is to the coffee machine and wants akutagawa back whole.)
