I don’t really want to wade into discourse too much today because I know everyone is extremely miserable online rn but I think if you want to give people genuine advice on what to do politically, “join a union/get involved in your current union/organise your workplace” or “join ACORN/a tenant union/etc” is much more actionable advice than like “build community.”

the problem with “community” is that it doesn’t have the same formal infrastructure / resources / political connections / organising capacity that allows your hard work to have reach far beyond your immediate circle (which is what a union has), and also because like, “community” is an extremely vague and abstract concept that can mean anything from a local restaurant run by your neighbour to a church to your dnd friend group. Reaching out and helping your neighbours is a good thing, lots of people are having a really tough time and helping people around you pay rent or take care of their family or etc is a good thing and you should feel good doing that, but in response to the complete institutional and political failure of electoral liberalism I think the next best option is to turn towards already existing national infrastructure that can mobilise people without requiring you to individually maintain dedicated personal relationships with everyone around you. In my experience + the experience of many long-time activists that I know, relying on interpersonal connections to organise and get things done leads to highly sectarian, disorganised, toxic, and unpleasant organising conditions. The cold impersonal bureaucracy of union membership is legitimately a good solution to this problem.

there are many little positions of power available in these organisation that become open to you for as low a cost as showing up to zoom meetings. I have personally been elected to positions in various unions/orgs literally because I was someone who showed up to meetings! Nobody goes to committee meetings! You get annual budgets! You get to pass votes, organise events, spend money on organising materials! You get to buy food for people! Organising is so much easier in these spaces.

And of course, you are going to face the same ideological resistance, apathy, ignorance, incompetence, and bigotry that you would at your local queer meet-up or community neighbourhood council, and I have no illusions about the institutional limits of unions (which can also be reactionary, bigoted, highly disorganised, incompetent, toxic, and so on), but if you want to avoid completely exhausting yourself and resenting everyone around you, you don’t need to build “community” from the ground up, there are already structures out there where you can do good work. For all the resistance there is to unions and union activity, you will face that same level of resistance with local organising but have none of the power, resources, or institutional legitimacy already secured by unions

AU story:

In this AU it kinda takes some ideas from the Archie comics. The Robotnik family worked with the Acorn kingdom, but upon discovering a hidden echidna temple under the castle, Eggman becomes obsessed with it, enraged that the kingdom has hidden what could be, ultimate power. Against his grandfather's wishes, he and maria run experiments, only for them to fail, leading to Maria and Eggman's parents vanishing, along with several mobians. Eggman escapes, but Maria is struck with a strange chaos ilness that seems to be nullified through contact with Chaos energy... but the Chaos emeralds are off limits. Eggman is exiled, but he vows to return for the emeralds and take the castle with his genious creations. Despite Gerald and Maria being under strickt watch, Gerald Robotnik tries to create a living emerald in secret, underground, drawing up the god of chaos and creating Shadow... But he's found out as Eggman attacks for the first time. He escapes with Shadow and Maria in the chaos, passing off Shadow as an orphan from the city. Suspicions arise as Shadow begins showing strange powers... it isn't long before the war catches up to them, and Sonic meets the mysterious hedgehog again, years later.

"Heliotropism" (M) by Waddiwasii | 857 | Like a flower rotating towards the light of the sun, so Stiles wants to follow Derek. But Stiles is no flower, no, he is a tree, and so he stays rooted; branches chained as he lies in wait for the sun to rise again.

"Backwoods Revival" (E) by Waddiwasii | 4,327 | Stiles had expected a lot of things when reluctantly agreeing to go on a camping trip. Bugs, for one, and maybe also one or two Kumbayas - courtesy of Scott - in front of the campfire. He had not expected his libido to make a raring comeback after months of being on hiatus, leaving him with the boners of all boners while sharing a tent with Derek freaking Hale.

"Better Off (Un) Dead" (M) by suburbanmotel | 5,971 | The night before the day before Halloween, Stiles loses a fight with a vampire, eats an unfortunate amount of candy, and falls in love with a newly turned zombie werewolf. Surprisingly, the candy thing is the worst part of the deal.

"One life stand" (E) by Vendelin | 3,858 | Stiles is used to selling himself to make ends meet. But it's getting harder to keep those ends meeting, and there's only so much of Stiles to go around. Until a too-fancy car shows up in his neighborhood, and he meets Derek Hale.

What if Spin Off Mario Characters Used Power Ups?

One or two persons suggested the Wonder Flower and I understood the assignment. The penguin and cloud outfits were kinda simple (I do love how squishy he looks as a penguin tho 🥺), but I had fun with the Super Acorn. I think that I can whip up a few headcanons for you, yeah!

Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles were 100% there to make sure that Tom woke up from the hospital. They’re the type of kids to sleep on the hospital bed as well and wait for him to wake up. When Tom did, he was greeted with tears, laughs, and a shit ton of hugs.

Maria and Shadow have a Friday night ritual that they’ve pinky swore to each other that they’d never break. At exactly 7pm, Maria and Shadow scatter across the bunker in search of snacks and loose bedding to build a “nest” within their fort. After they’ve retrieved their goods, they building their nest and wrap themselves up tightly to watch very old, very cheesy horror film until midnight. It’s part of their ritual to watch “The Birds” and laugh at the visual effects.

Tom and Maddie are both the type of parents to ask each other to send photos of their kids to make sure that they’re okay. However, each photo update that they send one another is a highly comical photo that they’ve edited.

Maria was totally a theater kid. She absolutely put on two-actor plays and dragged Shadow along with her. The scientists agreed that their version of Grease was the best.

The Wachowski family have created a “Family Map” of all of the places that they’d like to travel to. Each destination is marked with a family member’s icon (Tom is a donut, Maddie is a pretzel, Sonic is a sneaker, Tails is a wrench, and Knuckles is a fist) on the place that they’d like to vacation to. This is usually done with a leisure roadtrip by RV so the family can look at roadside attractions to the destination.

Shadow and Maria are avid readers. They can power through a novel in an entire afternoon. Shadow has an interest in human history and has read through many books of human civilization, Maria adores mythology and has read every book that she could get her hands on about all of the myths found in different parts of the world.

The Wachowski family has officially banned UNO from their household. They can’t handle another—literal—fire burning the table.

Shadow and Maria are banned from the bunker’s kitchen. They’re never allowed to attempt to make dinner by themselves due to setting the room on fire. This is what happens when neither of them pay attention to the frozen pizza that they’re making in the oven and forget to remove the wrapping.

Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Wade regularly play extreme hide-and-seek. The boys have 24 hours to hide within the town of Green Hills without getting caught. Hiders are free to roam anywhere within the set parameters laid out in the map, but not leave the designated area. The last to be found wins prizes from the lost and found bin at the Green Hills Sheriff’s Department. An alternative (usually proposed by Knuckles) is to get free dessert for an entire week at any point in time.

Shadow and Maria are competitive Connect Four players. Extremely competitive.

Maddie has an odd collection of things that her boys find her throughout their morning runs. Sometimes Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles bring her rocks and acorns that “looked cool.” Other times it’s random things that they’ve found on the side of the road, like a shoe or a toy car. Her favorite thing that the boys have given her was a rock in the shape of a heart.

When Pong was released in 1972, Shadow and Maria were practically glued to the TV screen and played for hours before Gerald had to hide the gaming device. Maria was missing school work and Shadow was absent from testing too much.

And finally, both families are no stranger to hugs. Why? Because I say so.

The Harvest Moon is the full Moon that occurs nearest to the autumnal equinox date (September 22, 2024). This means that either September or October’s full Moon may take on the name “Harvest Moon” instead of its traditional name. Similarly, the Hunter’s Moon is the first full Moon to follow the Harvest Moon, meaning it can occur in either October or November.

The Harvest Moon & the Hunter’s Moon are unique in that they are not directly related to this folklore or restricted to a single month. Instead, they are tied to an astronomical event: the autumnal equinox!

• October’s full Hunter Moon orbits closer to Earth than any of the other full Moons this year, making one of the four supermoons of 2024!  As the Moon drifts over the horizon around sunset, it may appear larger & more orange—how perfect for the fall season!

It is believed that this name originates from the fact that it was a signal for hunters to prepare for the upcoming cold winter by going hunting. This is because animals were beginning to fatten up in preparation for the winter season. Moreover, since fields had recently been cleared out under the Harvest Moon, hunters could easily spot deer & other animals that had come out to search for remaining scraps. Additionally, foxes & wolves would also come out to prey on these animals.

Samhain is about halfway between the autumnal equinox & winter solstice. It is one of the four Gaelic seasonal festivals along with Imbolc, Beltane, & Lughnasa. Historically it was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland, & the Isle of Man. 

Samhain is believed to have Celtic pagan origins &  some Neolithic passage tombs in Great Britain & Ireland are aligned with the sunrise at the time of Samhain. It is mentioned in the earliest Irish literature, from the 9th century & is associated with many important events in Irish mythology.

The early literature says great gatherings & feasts marked Samhain when the ancient burial mounds were open, which were seen as portals to the Otherworld. Some of the literature also associates Samhain with bonfires & sacrifices.

• According to Irish mythology, Samhain (like Beltane) was a time when the 'doorways' to the Otherworld opened, allowing supernatural beings and the souls of the dead to come into our world; while Beltane was a summer festival for the living, Samhain "was essentially a festival for the dead".

•The festival was not recorded in detail until the early modern era. It was when cattle were brought down from the summer pastures & livestock were slaughtered. Special bonfires were lit, which were deemed to have protective & cleansing powers.

At Samhain, the aos sí were appeased with offerings of food & drink to ensure the people & livestock survived the winter. The souls of dead kin were also thought to revisit their homes seeking hospitality & a place was set at the table for them during a meal. Divination was also a big part of the festival & often involved nuts & apples.

Mumming & guising were part of the festival from at least the early modern era, whereby people went door-to-door in costume, reciting verses in exchange for food. The costumes may have been a way of imitating & disguising oneself from the aos sí. 

• In the late 19th century, John Rhys and James Frazer suggested it had been the "Celtic New Year", but that is disputed.

Some believe it is the time of The Goddess' mourning the death of The God until his rebirth at Yule. The Goddess' sadness can be seen in the shortening, darkening days & the arrival or cold weather.

• Halloween( October 31st)-

In popular culture, the day has become a celebration of horror, being associated with the macabre and supernatural.

•One theory holds that many Halloween traditions were influenced by Celtic harvest festivals, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain, which are believed to have pagan roots. Some go further & suggest that Samhain may have been Christianized as All Hallow's Day, along with its eve, by the early Church. Other academics believe Halloween began solely as a Christian holiday, being the vigil of All Hallow's Day.

Popular Halloween activities include trick-or-treating (or the related guising & ghouling), attending Halloween costume parties, carving pumpkins or turnips into jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, divination games, playing pranks, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories, & watching horror or Halloween-themed films

• Day of the Dead(November 1st-2nd)-

 el Día de Muertos or el Día de los Muertos

The multi-day holiday involves family & friends gathering to pay respects & to remember friends & family members who have died. These celebrations can take a humorous tone, as celebrants remember amusing events & anecdotes about the departed. It is widely observed in Mexico, where it largely developed, and is also observed in other places, especially by people of Mexican heritage.

•The observance falls during the Christian period of Allhallowtide.

Traditions connected with the holiday include honoring the deceased using calaveras & marigold flowers known as cempazúchitl, building home altars called ofrendas with the favorite foods & beverages of the departed & visiting graves with these items as gifts for the deceased.

 The celebration is not solely focused on the dead, as it is also common to give gifts to friends such as candy sugar skulls, to share traditional pan de muerto with family & friends, & to write light-hearted & often irreverent verses in the form of mock epitaphs dedicated to living friends & acquaintances, a literary form known as calaveras literarias.

 Some argue that there are Indigenous Mexican or ancient Aztec influences that account for the custom & it has become a way to remember those forebears of Mexican culture.

• All Saint's Day(November 1st)- 

Also known as All Hallows' Day or the Feast of All Saints is a Christian solemnity celebrated in honour of all the saints of the Church, whether they are known or unknown.

After Malleus’ overblot, Lilia stays awake at night, the aftermath of the events burned into his mind. The remembrance of loss and helplessness at the forefront. What he lost in the past and what he could have lost now echoes constantly.

He visits each of the boys’ room.

In Malleus’ room, he sits on the bed as the fae slumbers. Malleus is still recovering from the magic he used. Lilia places a hand on Malleus’ hair, tenderly parting the hair on his forehead and rubbing his scales. Remembering all the times Malleus would laugh in joy when he was young and free from the burden of being a prince. Lilia places a kiss on those very scales, resisting healing him with his newly acquired powers, knowing Malleus wouldn’t be too happy about it. Which parent wouldn’t give up everything they had for their child? His son whom he always loved secretly, but would be more open in affections from now on. Tomorrow, Lilia will make them shaved ice and fruits. It’s been far too long since he last made it for all of them.

When Lilia visits Silver’s room, he lays his hand on his chest. Watches and counts the breaths he takes. Silver was also recovering from using his magic constantly. The fear of the sleeping curse gone but still so much needed to be talked between the two. He won’t deny it anymore. He would give Silver the name, let it be known who Silver is to him. The acorn bracelet hangs on his dorm pocket even now. With a pat to Silver’s head and a kiss placed upon his eyes, Lilia wishes for Silver’s eyes to no longer be clouded on his behalf. Tomorrow, he would play video games with them.

When Lilia enters Sebek’s room, Lilia can’t help the feelings of pride that engulfs him at the sight of him. The youngest and most tenacious. The one who is the wisest of them all. Sebek who represents the best of them all and more. He will go beyond any of them. He will go further than Baul and even himself, going down in history for his bravery and loyalty. For now though, as Lilia ruffles Sebek’s hair, Sebek is just a boy who enjoys food and praises. Tomorrow, Lilia will give them all more praises.

Lilia returns to his room.

He had nearly lost his whole world once again.

It seems he still has lessons to learn even at his age.

He would do better.

For himself and for his boys.

For now, he will watch over and love them as he always has.
