The big thing I'm just waiting for with Universes Beyond in Standard is some licensing fuckery to hit that forces WotC to prematurely pull a set off store shelves. At best, demanding them to fast track the UW reprints and, at worst, create a Neo-Reserved List with far more teeth than the original ever had. Ultimately, it gives them the dilemma of either permitting what cards were sold to continue tournament play but also being completely unobtainable outside of the secondary market or being forced to blanket ban hundreds of cards at once and sinking a lot of goodwill with future UB sets both on the player and corporate side of things. Will this happen any time soon? I doubt it. However, it also needs to happen only once for things to get really complicated.

I think there probably was part of Gortash dreading Melkior actually showing up again. Like oh god it took me like half a decade of psychological manipulation/love bombing/bribes/weird psychosexual power games to get this guy in my pocket the first time. Now I have to do it again while his brain is full of holes and there's a time limit of the eldritch god we enslaved running out of tasks to occupy her.

Then he watches him go so very still on "my favorite assassin" and the first thing out of his mouth is a real soft "I was...your favorite? " and he realizes he actually just gets to deal with a version of Melkior without the defense mechanisms learned from a decade raised with the AutoCannibalism family. Ehhh fuck it I'll post this one too -- I wanted to color it first, but. I'm actually split on redoing Alfonse's outfit completely, or at least making adjustments.

Like, in my head, I think I was doing two separate things between the Askr siblings and it just doesn't feel cohesive to me now.

What, you ask? Well, the first thought behind this, was this is a visit. So, Sharena is straight up wearing Moe's old clothes it never could seem to let go of. I think I got mixed up around Alfonse, though. Literally half and half. He's wearing some of Moe's clothes (esp the flannel, green, band merch), but the idea here is they did have to go out and get stuff that actually fits right.

Which... works. It does work. But I think in the back of my head I was also wanting to design an outfit that's more AU coded. Going from argyle sweater vest ass to mmmmaybe trying to develop his own sense of style. Which kind of directly clashes w the idea that he's wearing some of Moe's clothes. But also. So. SO BADLY. ESP IN THIS CONTEXT. I would LOVE for Moe to have direct influence in the process of that. Another detail you don't even get to see here is Alfonse is wearing a studded belt. Courtesy of Moe.

Lack of direction too many ideas at once. Maybe if it's an AU, the dress could have been a hand-me-down? If you like it, and it fits. You can have it. If you want... (Moe completely dodging just how deeply meaningful this gesture is when doing this). But also, could go REALLY crazy if Moe (previous life) had fashion taste that was close enough to Sharena's that, like. At different points of time, each ended up picking out the same dress. It's such a funny line to balance, actually. Because despite all the parallels I may draw between them, Moe was NEVER what Peony was, to Sharena. Not even close.

Idk idk there's a possibility that I'll get too frustrated w all the details not matching up here that I scrap it completely. Just know that the dress Sharena is wearing is pink and white. Very Princess Peach core. The style of it, though... it's pretty close to something else... a certain Something Else... just enough to scare ya. Which is ALSO WHY this might work better as a visit and unique psychological damage for Alfonse but I DIGRESS. WHAT YHE FUCK EVER. TOO MUCH GOING ON HERE JUST THROW IT ALL OUT‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

kinda wanna post some doodles for it so here's some really vague context on another au

Absolute Catastrophe Timeline AU (or just Catastrophe AU)

-post-canon, second summer

-time traveling incident sends old grunks to swap places with their 8 year old selves

-8 year old grunks are like "woah it's the future" and ask a million questions. Dipper and Mabel don't have the heart to tell them that they don't get a boat until they're almost 60 so Mabel impulsively lies before Dipper can do the reasonable thing and say "oh I can't tell you too much about the future it could mess things up"

-kids explore around while Dipper and Mabel try to figure out what they should do. they try time traveling but are unable to find older grunks

-while exploring around, 8 year old grunks find the portal, decide it must OBVIOUSLY lead to their boat and switch it on (older Ford fixed it and was trying to make it stable. it still isn't very stable but it runs efficiently enough that it opens a lot quicker now)

-cue Dipper and Mabel being like "wait where did they go", feeling gravity get wonky like it does when the portal is on, and run to the basement

-they manage to save Stan but Dipper ends up going through the portal with Ford.

-Mabel is now stuck with no brother and an 8 year old Stan who just ALSO lost his brother. he also finds out from Mabel that the portal does not, in fact, lead to a boat.

-Dipper is stuck in the multiverse with an 8 year old Ford and has thus ended up having to take care of a child even though he is only 13 and therefore also a child. but he's also almost 14 so is it really THAT bad?? (it is. being 14 makes absolutely no difference)

-the twins do not reunite for a very long time

-the time police can't even help bc once you're in the multiverse, you're basically separated from your universe's timeline until you come back.

-since the time police can't help, they basically end up isolating that timeline. nobody is allowed to touch it anymore it's broken. they did take any and all time travel related devices tho so. yea

One of the things I'm particularly bitter about when it comes to this ending is how it flattened Ed and Izzy's relationship.

You can't, in the same season give me

"I have... love for you, Edward." "I loved you, best I could." "Artsy outsider was always your thing." "A shark did this."

and

"Hello Mr. Latch! it's not your fault you're broken, no. Were just trying to do your job, weren't ya?"

and expect me to just... move on from that, accepting that we will never get anything more from them, that their relationship won't get explored, that they won't have a the chance, time and space to finally talk it through as a crew, to air out their grievances, to reach a boiling point, and to decide where to move on from there. Within just a few episodes they became the most fascinating part of the show for me, and the fact that, as far as we know, this is it for them... yeah, I don't like that at all.
