Fandoms will ship two het men who simply breathe next to each other but god forbid a Black woman has a relationship with or even just chemistry with the popular male lead. And this happens in EVERY fandom (see tags for examples) with a prominent Black female character. They were even vehemently against Miles Morales and the Black spider girl (Margo).

It’s just very telling that certain people are suddenly “platonic love/besties/sibling energy only otherwise the show is ruined!!” when the fem character is Black.

It’s ok to not ship characters, but the overwhelming backlash to these specific ones has been so ridiculous and very obviously racially motivated. There are articles now discussing whether harmless shipping of two fictional adult characters is acceptable, and on the cover of them is typically an interracial pairing involving a Black woman…

I want to say that Black girls and women in fandoms are some of the strongest people in the world, but that in and of itself is microaggressive (I’m Black, but still). We put up with a lot of hate, icing out, misplaced jealousy and concern trolling, and that’s even the case when Black female characters are treated well by the narrative, which they often are not. And yeah, we’re still here and everything, but we deserve better.

Fandom is for enjoyment, not having to be the strongest toughest person in the room. I’m older now so I have the benefit of not giving nearly as much of a shit as I did in my early 20s, but I want more for the ones still finding themselves, trying to find community and make art about the things they love.

I love everything about this edit. It is so honorable to Bonnie and the Bennett’s. It depicts a different storyline than what we were given with them. I wish they were given a bigger forefront than some other character’s families. This is the superior witch bloodline to me, they are the creators and the blueprints! This is a matriarchal line of black and brown women how amazing is that?!

Julie could not relate to Bonnie which applies to her “struggles” (racism)writing her and her bloodline. If a fan can make an edit like this then there is no excuse why a writer couldn’t uplift Bonnie and her relatives. The Bennett’s are still the superior bloodline to me.

I just had this conversation with my lovely besties a few days ago but Bonnie deserved to tell her parents off: Abby, Rudy and Grams for different reasons that is. Abby for abandoning her multiple times, Rudy for loving Bonnie but only as a human and Grams for not being truthful about the supernatural world and guiding her early. But too keep it focused on Abby.

I’m not a fan of Persia’s performance either. Every scene of Abby and Bonnie is: Abby whining & lacking accountability. Idk, if that’s how Persia was supposed to act as her but I’m not sympathizing with Abby’s struggles. I see her victimizing herself when she hurt Bonnie. Now, yes racism plays a big part in the lack thereof for Bonnie’s family! Abby doesn’t behave as if she feels guilty. Abby talks a lot about herself what she can’t do and why she can’t do it. She doesn’t try with Bonnie. Bonnie told her directly what the problem is and what did Abby do? Make it about herself. Abby’s selfish, whiney and acts immature. Bonnie should’ve lit fire on her ass. Perhaps, Persia couldn’t do more with a limited character.

No disrespect to these gifs and the creator who did work hard on that! I want to emphasize that in the nicest way possible.

Abby becomes a tool to prove how good of a friend Caroline can be. I take no issues with Caroline defending Bonnie. This scene would be more impactful if Bonnie was speaking. Bonnie and Abby as a relationship needed to exist between them and not a middle woman lol. Abby ties Elena’s history to the Mikaelson’s even further by dissecting Mikael. Hell, I would even argue Abby was happier to see ELENA than she ever was to meet Bonnie because of her past with Miranda. But with Bonnie she just closes up. We can’t forget Abby drugging Bonnie repeatedly either… I just wished Bonnie got to request that she stays out of her life.

Bonnie’s expression arc would’ve been perfect to try and develop Abby (who had her own dark magic past) but it was a missed opportunity. We know that Abby has stopped a human heart before… who heart? We will never know but that’s all I got tonight love!

To sum it up: I don’t care who played Abby if she was going to continue to treat Bonnie like shit she might as well not been there at all or allow Bonnie to make the decision of not having her around. Grams wasn’t perfect either but we can see her first priority at all times is Bonnie. She doesn’t care about anyone else. I would have loved a scene of all 3 of them together but wishful thinking and too many black women for those writers.

Persia has headcanons about Abby? I seriously had no idea. I thought she was leaning more into the Mikaelson thing because of Joseph respectfully.

this isn’t long at all, it’s just a short and sweet lil blurb

November 10th.

The day that Abbi was most grateful for, because it was the day that her husband and, as far as she was convinced her soulmate, was born. Ernest never made a huge deal about his birthday, often claiming that it’s ‘just another day’ and that he’s ‘just another year older’. However, Abbi didn’t see it like that.

She made a promise to herself before they even wed that she’d bake a homemade cake for him every year, and now still newly married and nearing their first anniversary, she intended to keep that promise. While it wasn’t easy to make a cake entirely from scratch, she’d spent half the day in the kitchen while Ernest was out running a few errands that she’d sent him on.

“Oh, Merlin.” Abbi sighed, removing the cake from the oven, setting it on the countertop. A simple chocolate cake with vanilla frosting, and a little decoration would surely be just enough, if not more than enough, to make Ernest happy. She removed her mitts and began gathering her decorating supplies. She allowed the cake to cool for a little bit, then began adding the base layer of frosting.

“Hmm…” she murmured to herself as she piped little flowers at the base of the cake, mulling over the thought of adding more to it. “A heart should do nicely.” She smiled to herself, mixing the white icing with a bit of red food dye to make, at the least, a pink heart at the top of the cake.

Admiring her handiwork, she finished filling in the heart, smoothing out any imperfections in it. She set the icing spatula down on the counter as she heard the front door open.

“Abbi, dear?” Ernest called form the foyer of their home, “are you here?”

“In the kitchen, darling!” Abbi called back, quickly cleaning up the small mess she’d made with her supplies, though she knew Ernest wouldn’t be upset with her, she knew he’d insist that he wasn’t worth all this trouble.

“And just what exactly happened in here, hmm?” Ernest hummed, pressing a kiss to the top of Abbi’s head, then one to her cheek as his arm wrapped around her waist. It was her favorite way that he greeted her, and he’d be lying if he said it wasn’t his favorite too.

“I know you don’t think you’re worth the trouble, and despite how untrue that is, you at least deserve a cake.” Abbi smiled up at him, studying his features as he took in the sight in front of him.

“All of this?” Ernest asked, almost incredulously, “for me?”

“That is how birthdays work, my love.” Abbi smiled at him, knowing that he’d be able to detect her sarcasm.

“Best not let it go to waste then.” Ernest smiled, grabbing a butter knife from the drawer.

“Oh, I almost forgot!” Abbi exclaimed, grabbing the small candle she’d meant to top the cake with, lighting it with a match. “Make a wish.”

“I don’t have to make a wish.” He shook his head, “ all of my wishes came true when I met you, cara mia.” Ernest gently lifted her chin, pressing a soft kiss to her lips.

"Where were you last night?"

Your hands stilled over the teacup you were washing in the sink. Tom's tone wasn't accusatory, but you could feel him watching you.

You took a quick breath and pasted on a smile before turning around. "Rosie's been fussy. I stayed with her." Your six-month-old daughter lay fast asleep in her basket nearby, sucking her thumb contentedly. You envied her.

"I didn't hear her crying." You felt more than saw the crease in Tom's brow and your chest tightened, but you managed a laugh regardless.

"That doesn't mean anything. You once slept through a thunderstorm and didn't realise."

"Realised you never came to bed at all last night, though." Tom's voice was flat. He wasn't going to let this go. "In fact, since I came back we haven't slept in the same bed once."

Your eyes widened. "That's not true. The first night…"

"Yeah, we were together, and I fell asleep, and then when I woke up it was 3 o'clock and you were downstairs cleaning the kitchen." He stood up, jaw set tight. "You've not been sleeping in Rosie's room. Lois is driving an ambulance all night and even she looks less tired. What's going on?"

"Nothing," you said it quietly. The word sounded feeble even to your ears. "Nothing's going on, I just–" You turned back to the sink, intending to put the cup down, but somehow it slipped from your grasp and shattered on the floor.

"Fuck." You let the curse slip without thinking. Automatically, you bent down to pick up the broken pieces. A sharp bit sliced across your palm, and a thin scarlet line appeared. Tears filled your eyes, less from pain than frustration. "Fuck!"

"Leave it." Tom's hand grasped your wrist. Without looking at you, he guided you over to the table and went and rummaged around in the cupboards. You sat staring at your bleeding hand blindly, tears and unspoken words crushed together in your throat.

Tom came back with a bottle of antiseptic and some bandages. You sucked in a breath as the sharp smell of the alcohol hit your airways and the liquid stung your hand. After the wound was clean, he started bandaging it up deftly. You watched him, a little surprised and strangely saddened at how easy this was for him now. That was all life had come down to this past year. Patching things up and hoping the cracks didn't spread.

"I can't sleep." The words came out almost involuntarily. Tom glanced up, but you didn't meet his eyes. You looked over at Rosie, still sound asleep.

"I was at the house that night. When your dad–" You swallowed hard. "I brought Rosie over and we had dinner with him and Lois and Vera. Later on…"

Why was this so hard? Your throat was getting progressively tighter, but you forced the words out anyway.

"I left," you whispered. "A few minutes before it happened. Rosie was getting fussy so I thought I'd take her back to ours. Then the sirens started up and I went to the shelter. When I came back in the morning with Lois, it was just…everything was gone. And all I could think about was that if I'd stayed five more minutes I'd have been there too with Rosie and your dad. So, since then…whenever it gets dark…I just–I can't sleep. Because if I go to sleep then I might not hear the sirens and I need to–I need to know…" Your voice cracked on a sob, and then another, until you were crying hard, your shoulders shaking.

You felt Tom shift, pulling you in close. You buried your face in his shoulder as he stroked your hair. He didn't say anything, but that had never been his way and you were just glad to have him there.

Finally, your sobs eased. You pulled away, swiping your uninjured hand across your face. "Sorry. I'm being stupid. I should've said…"

"It's not stupid." Tom's voice was quiet. He reached up and thumbed away the tears from your cheeks. "Sometimes I think I'll be glad if I never have to get on a ship again when all this is over. After the first one, when I went back, I traded someone a whole pack of fags just so I could sleep near the door. Didn't want to be trapped if we got hit."

Instinctively, you reached for his hand, linking your fingers with his. He glanced down and held onto you a little tighter.

"Being scared isn't stupid. If there's one thing I learned from my dad it's that we're all the walking wounded around here. Doesn't matter if you're on a ship or driving an ambulance or looking after the baby. We've just got to take care of each other. One day at a time."

A fragile smile tugged at your lips. "How did you get to be so smart?"

The familiar cheeky glint in Tom's eyes returned. "Just call it life experience, love. Had to happen sometime."

You squeezed his hand.

"Go on upstairs and get some rest," Tom said. You opened your mouth to protest, but he shook his head. "If you stay up, we won't have any cups left. I'll look after Rosie." As if reading the silent fear in your heart, he kissed the top of your head and held you close. "I won't let anything bad happen. Promise."

And even though you knew this was only temporary, even though you knew a day would come where he'd have to leave and you'd spend the next few months praying for his safe return, you believed him.
