i’ve been seeing posts/videos on youtube about the next possible star trek movie and having it take place decades before the timeline of tos and like
do they not understand how feral i (and many other fans i assume) would become if we finally got an adaptation of star trek that gave us more spirk?
spirk was the pairing that launched a thousand ships! not to mention the amazing fanfics its spawned. sure exploring the playground of the star trek verse is beautiful, but as tos and aos have shown us, there are an infinite amount of realities out there where james t kirk wound up with a spock. hell kirk himself said it in the scene from aos that never was
“You once said being a starship captain was my first, best destiny… if that’s true, then yours is to be by my side. If there’s any true logic to the universe… we’ll end up on that bridge again someday.”

I kind of wish Hollywood would stop rebooting already iconic thing like I don't need another Twilight and if they are going to be rebooting things why not reboot shows that got canceled after one season but now have mass following like The secret circle for example.
Or if you're going to reboot things that are already iconic why not explore other aspects than the story we were already told like you do not need to retail Harry Potter we have eight movies for that I don't need a TV show give me the marauders era it doesn't even have to be that just give me something I haven't already seen.

Really tired of streaming services making absolute banger animated TV shows for adults, never advertising them, then canceling then because no one watches them, so I'm taking it upon myself to share some of the ones I've watched recently with the hope other people will hear about them for the first time and give them a shot.
---
Blue Eye Samurai
Tumblr media
"A master of the sword lives life in disguise while seeking revenge in Edo-period Japan."
Probably one of my favorite animated shows of all time. Mizu, arguably one of the best sword masters in this time period, goes on a quest to eliminate four white men living in Japan, one of which is Mizu's father. The show focuses heavily on how factors outside of your control, such as race and gender, impact how others view you and how you view yourself.
Watch if you are a fan of: Complicated characters/relationships, revenge quests, gore, complicated relationships with gender and race, and absolute badass characters.
Where to Watch: Netflix
Undone
Tumblr media
"After 28-year-old Alma nearly dies in a car accident, she finds that she has a new relationship with time; she develops this newfound relationship to find out the truth about her father's death."
Undone focuses on difficult relationships with family, including how your parents can have profound effects on you even after they're gone, and how to deal with grief. That, plus the added chaos of being able to travel through time.
Watch if you are a fan of: character studies, shows dealing with grief, time travel, trying to rewrite fate.
Where to watch: Prime
Scavengers Reign
Tumblr media
"The crew of a damaged deep space freighter are stranded on a beautiful but dangerous planet."
A mix between sci-fi and horror, this show focuses on the crew of a crashed spaceship. Each (living) crew member of the ship escaped in pods, scattering them across the planet. They must fight to survive and make their way back to their ship on a planet featuring some of the most fucked up creatures I've ever seen.
Watch if you like: sci-fi, isolationist horror, body horror, creature features
Where to watch: At the moment, Max. As of May 31st, Netflix. Max canceled the show (even though it has a 100% rating 🙃). Netflix may make a season 2 depending on how many people watch it in the first few weeks after it comes to Netflix.
Harley Quinn
Tumblr media
"The newly single Harley Quinn sets off to make it on her own as the criminal queenpin in Gotham City."
Honestly I was feeling a bit burnt out on super hero shows, but this one felt like a breath of fresh air. It follows Harley as steps out from the shadow of the Joker, no longer being one of his henchmen and struggling to find her identity as a single, independent villain.
Watch if you like: Superhero/villain shows, stories that focus on blurred lines instead of a clear distinction between good and evil.
Where to Watch: Max
Primal
Tumblr media
"At the dawn of evolution, a caveman and a dinosaur on the brink of extinction bond over unfortunate tragedies and become each other's only hope of survival in a treacherous world."
This show is super unique in that there's basically no dialogue, but it still finds a way to display an absolutely gutwrenching relationship between two parents of different species going through shared grief.
Watch if you like: Brutality, heavily visual story telling, prehistoric stories, and tales of overcoming.
Where to Watch: Hulu
Love Death and Robots
Tumblr media
"This collection of animated short stories spans several genres, including science fiction, fantasy, horror and comedy. World-class animation creators bring captivating stories to life in the form of a unique and visceral viewing experience. The animated anthology series includes tales that explore alternate histories, life for robots in a post-apocalyptic city and a plot for world domination by super-intelligent yogurt."
I love this show because you never have any clue what to expect. A siren living in a river falling for a deaf knight? An artist painting intergalactic art pieces? Three robots going on a field trip through the apocalypse to visit old human historical sites? You never know, but there's going to be love, death, and/or robots in it. Each episode varies wildly, so I'd recommend watching at least a few to get a taste for it, as some will resonate more strongly than others.
---
I'm sure there are lots more excellent animated shows, but these are all the ones I've watched in the past year or so. I'd love to see more recs in the tags, because I'm always down to watch more cool animations!

This is why streaming is dying.
I'm Canadian, and I used to watch Star Trek on Crave. Crave saved us for awhile from the fracturing of the streaming landscape because it stayed as an umbrella service for quite some time. I used to get Star Trek, HBO, WB shows, Starz, Sony stuff...basically Hulu + HBO + Paramount. That was actually worth it because for the same monthy fee I could get House of the Dragon, Star Trek and more.
But that wasn't going to last forever. When Paramount+ launched in Canada, Star Trek got taken off Crave. I'm a huge Star Trek fan but even I couldn't justify a FIFTH streaming service just for Trek.
Tumblr media
So I waited until Discovery was finished. And then I binged it and season 4 of Lower Decks. And then I cancelled. I won't get it again until S3 of Strange New Worlds and Season 4 of Lower Decks are finished, then I'll binge and cancel again.
There is literally nothing else on P+ I want to watch. I looked, because if there was something I'd cancel Netflix for a bit. But it's all movies I've seen and don't want to rewatch, shows I already have access to on other streamers, or things I have no interest in.
When the networks were working together to put lots of tasty treats under one streamer, it was absolutely worth it. I'd pay $20 a month for Crave if HBO kept making good shows (instead of cancelling them, RIP Our Flag Means Death) and if P+ had lots of Trek (and...didn't keep cancelling those shows like they did Lower Decks and Discovery.) Between that and Trek that would mean I always had a show releasing on the platform that I wanted to watch.
Tumblr media
As long as there isn't a steady diet of things that appeal to me, I WILL keep subscribing, binging, and cancelling. Churn is the reason these networks aren't profitable. But there is literally no incentive for me to NOT do that when the things I want to watch are scattered across 5-6 different streamers, each charging $15+ a month.
In trying to get their slice of the pie, the networks have guaranteed there isn't enough food on their buffet to keep people coming back for more.
It creates a vicious cycle. This fracturing means there's not enough budget to support the flagship shows/franchises. Then, they get cancelled and/or budget reduced. So they take away or vastly reduce the thing I want to watch the most.
PLUS none of the networks are nurturing the cult hits/franchises of the future. Shows that have the potential to be the reason I subscribe are being cut off at the knees after virtually no promotion.
Tumblr media
I watch every new show like Dead Boy Detectives knowing there is a very high likelihood that this will be the only season I'll get to watch. So much potential is left on the table. If there were four or more shows like Dead Boy Detectives and Kaos getting ongoing commitments from Netflix I wouldn't even consider cancelling my subscription. Instead, I know that any show that isn't an immediate cultural moment is probably getting the axe, or getting two seasons, max. Especially if it's SF&F. Especially if it's queer.
Tumblr media
We live in the world where even the critically-acclaimed and franchise-based House of the Dragon is getting truncated episode runs and reduced support.
Regardless of how you feel about how Game of Thrones ended, that franchise is a cultural juggernaut. House of the Dragon is legitimately good and packed with talent. The rough patches of Season 2 can be easily traced back to reduced budgets/cut episode run at the last minute that forced the production team to scramble and adapt.
Tumblr media
Honestly. Is there anyone actually committing to their series other than FX, AMC, and Amazon with Rings of Power? Although RoP can also be considered a sunk cost fallacy since Amazon invested a SHIT TON into the IP and the series, so they need it to work. They also have a wobbly track record supporting other shows. (I will never forgive them for cancelling A Leage of Their Own.)
Tumblr media
FX and AMC are the only networks that feel like they're actually supporting their content. And what do you get for that? Shogun, one of the best shows in recent memory. The show absolutely swept awards season (and rightfully so) and is now setting itself up to be a tentpole show in the mold of such classics of the historical fiction genre like Deadwood, The Tudors, and Rome.
Tumblr media
Interview With the Vampire, is an AMC show which has a very active and passionate fandom eager for more of it and Anne Rice's Immortal Universe. This is a rare example of a new franchise (albeit based on an existing, well-know IP) is really finding its feet and its audience. The audience for it is not of the size of something like House of the Dragon, but AMC is feeding the audience it does have unapologetically, with queer camp horror full of messy, toxic relationships.
Tumblr media
Then there's What We Do in the Shadows, which seems to be ending on its own terms this year. FX is a Disney subsidary which somehow manages to commit to the series it creates, which proves it can still be done.
I do hope that FX and AMC continues to support their weird and wonderful shows, and I hope they keep getting rewarded for it with high ratings and awards so that the rest of the networks will smarten up.
Tumblr media
If we hadn't just come out of a golden age of streaming where every network was producing excellent TV, all of this heavy cancellation and fragmentation wouldn't be quite so devastating.
Entertainment seems like it's constantly in a feast or famine churn. Right now, we're careening toward famine, which is full of one-season shows, overextended franchises, flagship shows being cut/restrained and a whole lot of cheap dreck.
It's the reality TV heyday all over again and I hate it.

== Love Notes ==
Hey there lovelies. It's been a long beginning of the week for me.. as you can see I'm several days late again.
I just wanted to send a quick reminder that I badly needed this week.. and that is that we are not defined by our low points.
Sometimes things are not gonna go our way, no matter how much we plan, or try to make them do it, and sometimes we just gotta let the tide take us in a direction until it calms the hell down. When it finally does, you're gonna still be the same kind, and wonderful person you've always been-- maybe with some new outlooks or experiences, or even some new lessons learned. We're never the same person we were the day before, but we can still hold onto the things that make us us. Your kindness, your love, your laughter, and your tears... and so much more. Hard times don't define us lovelies, we define us. I hope this week goes in an upward direction for you, and the tides calm down a bit. Please know, even when I'm not around I'm always thinking of you. Take care <3

Cornbread (1)
Killmonger x pregnant!reader / part one
Warnings: None, just super fluffy, and in this AU, Erik’s father never left Wakanda but he did pass at the same time as in canon, Erik just grew up surrounded by the rest of his family instead
As you looked amongst your closet, the growing mound on your front told you that most of your clothing wouldn’t properly fit you anymore right now. Carrying your fiancé’s big headed baby boy had given you enough reason to buy larger sized clothing ahead of time. Of course, most of the clothes you wore were Erik’s, seeing as he was almost an entire foot taller than you.
You reached your hand inside and pulled out one of Erik’s Nike tech outfits, the much larger size telling you that as long as you didn’t spill anything on it, and your baby didn’t suddenly decide to come two weeks early and have your water break whilst sitting on the couch, Erik wouldn’t be upset once he saw you in it.
Said man had already taken his leave to go to work, a job you knew very little about but didn’t care to know much. You had your dream Cadillac in the garage and subscriptions to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, and Disney+ and more than enough good food in the kitchen. Whether it needed to be made or even just removed from the packaging, you couldn’t be happier with the selection. Erik always made sure you had your favorites, which at the time were goldfish crackers, plantain chips, ice cold water from your preferred refillable water bottle, and your soon-to-be Auntie-in-law’s homemade cornbread, which Erik would either take you to get personally from her in Wakanda or he would go get himself.
For a royal family that could have any chef they desired and any food they could ask for at their finger tips, Queen Mother making cornbread always seemed to brighten your mood no matter what.
As you looked in the fridge for your cornbread, you looked at the container the cornbread was in had been gone, and taking a quick glance at the sink, you knew exactly why.
‘You ate the last piece of cornbread?!’ You sent to your fiancé’s phone, fingertips typing ten words a second at how furious you were becoming. How dare he! Taking the last piece of cornbread he knew you loved and knew he wouldn’t have time to get for another few days due to work. How dare he taken something quick to eat in his late morning that you had wanted first!
After five minutes passed of you staring at the message sitting on “delivered”, it finally changed to “read 11:27am”.
‘’
‘…’
‘Babygirl, there was only one piece left.’ He replied, having deleted and retyped his message three times as the dots had told on him.
‘That was my last piece! Now there isn’t anymore and I want some! When can we get more?’
‘Maybe Thursday, (Y/n). I don’t know, I shouldn’t be talking right now, okay? I’ll get you your cornbread.’
You glared at the message and simply put a ‘thumbs up’ on it in reply, letting out a long groan of frustration before putting a hand over your belly, in your act of anger, you had forgotten to actually get something to eat. Getting up with a huff, you trudged to the kitchen with much less gumption that you had before. Pulling the box of Lucky Charms cereal from the cabinet and the oat milk from the fridge, you made yourself a quick bowl of cereal, leaving everything out by you as you knew you would want another few bowls.
An hour or so later, still saddened by the lack of cornbread as you munched on the bland tasting plantain chips you had beside you. The mediocre game show on screen made you cringe, it was obvious the contestants were guessing wrong on purpose to the easiest questions just to make the episode hit its target screen time. It annoyed you to no end, but seeing as you binged all your shows and wouldn’t dare taint your mind’s taste buds by risking a new show or movie, you settled.
Out of boredom, you decided to treat yourself, you were cornbread-less, patience-less, and had what the doctors assumed to be a seven to eight pound baby in your belly. Wakanda was only a short ten hour trip by flight, and practically 30 minutes if you could convince your cousin-in-law, Princess Shuri or King T’Challa to send a jet to your house.
You had always known about Erik, well, N’Jadaka, Erik simply being the name he took undercover when he came to America where he met you. You figured out pretty quickly he was the prince, shaving his beard, contacts and a switch from locs to a fade didn’t do as much disguising as he’d hoped, not from you anyway.
You kept his secret while you both attended MIT, as long as he promised to help you pass your physics and trigonometry courses. Aside from numbers and formulas, those weren’t the only things you were happy to take with you once you graduated.
Now having dated four years and being eight months pregnant, with a beautiful 4 carat engagement ring on your finger, and a very strong bond between your fiancé and his family, it wasn’t exactly uncommon for your pregnant self to call the princess and king if you needed something while Erik was at work.
Dialing Shuri’s kimono beads with your own she’s given you, it was almost immediately she answered, a large smile on her holographic face.
“(Y/n)!! It’s great to hear from you!! How are you and my nephew? Sleeping okay? Resting? Eating well?” She cried, the background of the hologram showing she must’ve been at work in her lab.
“Hello, Shuri, I’m doing very well thank you, M’Jabe too. Erik ate the last piece of Queen Mother’s cornbread this morning and I was hoping I’d be able to come get more? It’s really been the only thing keeping me—“
“Right away! I’ll speak with cousin later but for now you come here!!” Shuri interrupted, an interruption you couldn’t care less for as it meant you’d be getting what you wanted. “The jet will be there in ten minutes, shall you pack a bag and stay the night again?” She asked.
You’d stayed the night last month, having had phantom contractions that had easily convinced you that you were in labor. Seeing as it had been another four weeks since then, it was obvious you were wrong. Knowing you still had two weeks before your due date, you deemed yourself perfectly fine not to stay long, especially with how busy the royal family were already.
“No, Shuri, but thank you, I’ll stay again in a week or two since M’Jabe will be due then.” You assured her. She nodded solemnly but smiled. “That’s fine, but the next sleepover I’ll be meeting my nephew so I’ll be looking forward to that!”
You let out a laugh and nodded. You and Shuri continued to talk until the jet arrived, having put on a jacket to combat the nipping mid October weather and a pair of fuzzy slippers you loved. Okoye met you at the top of the stairs into the jet, giving you a smile as you walked in, lending you a hand up the steps as you used the other hand to hold your belly.
“Enkosi, General.” You smiled as she nodded and helped you to a seat.
“Of course, (Y/n), it’s good to see you’re doing well, I’d hoped you would with prince N’Jadaka.” She replied, earning a laugh from you and your son who kicked your kidney in agreement. God he wasn’t even born yet and he was heavy handed like his father.
The ride to Wakanda was short of course, and for good reason, you could only feel your drool escaping your lips as you nearer the great castle, as if smelling the cornbread being made already.
Erik called you after you landed and we’re being escorted inside.
“Why are you in Wakanda?” He asked almost immediately after you answered.
“I wanted my cornbread.” You replied matter-of-factly.
He let out an audible sigh. “You’re a trip..” he let out a soft chuckle before it turned into a light laugh. He loved your attitude, and his ability to tame it. “Don’t worry, Babygirl, I’ll be there soon. Tell Auntie and the other two I said hey.”
You smiled and walked along the long hallways with Okoye, her simply going about her duty alongside you. You couldn’t tell if she was just a master of not showing her opinions through her face, or if she truly tuned out your conversation. It didn’t really matter to you.
“Okay, baby, I’ll see you when you get here. And I forgive you for eating my cornbread.” You smiled, rubbing your belly gently.
He let out yet another laugh, but this one came from his gut, he truly found you amusing and that’s one of the things he truly loved about you. You loved his laugh as well.
“Thank you for forgiving me baby. I won’t touch your cornbread again.” He said in defeat, you could hear the smile in his voice and it made you blush. God, even after four years he could make you giggle like a school girl.
“Get here soon, me and M’Jabe miss you lots..” you admitted. Curse your pregnancy tongue.
Erik noticed the small difference in your tone, how sad you suddenly became at the thought of him being so far away. He hated doing that to you, no matter what his duties were. Of course, him working was to provide for the human you both created that was only days away from coming along. You and your baby were his priorities and everything else came second, so as much as he’d want to spend hours and hours tending to your pregnant form and giving you all the treatment you deserved, being able to stay with his family was the next best thing.
“How about you stay in Wakanda until my son comes along?” He asked you, knowing you had already discussed how you wanted to stay in the comfort in your own home until it was time. But you also knew that he was worried about that plan, what if you went into labor and he wasn’t home or couldn’t make it home, he’ll be damned before you had to take yourself to a rinky dunk hospital that charged almost 100k just for birthing the child and even just holding it afterwards, before the baby was born of course.
You went silent for a bit to think it over, you knew what he was worried about but also knew what you wanted. Being hormonal and pregnant, missing your fiancé who couldn’t be there for what you knew wouldn’t be another two hours, and in a castle you hadn’t spent more than a week at a time in, tears welled in your eyes.
You quickly wiped them away and did your best to hide the sudden spiral in your voice.
“How about we talk about that when you get here, baby, I don’t wanna make any decisions without looking each other in the face.” You said, mustering a smile.
Erik nodded, he knew that would make you feel better.
“Alright, baby, that sounds good. I’ll talk to you then, okay? I love you.” He finally said.
“I love you back..” you replied, hanging up the phone and letting soft tears fall as you made it to the thrown room.
Face to face was how you liked to handle things anyway. That how you got M’Jabe to be two weeks away to being in the world anyway.
Well… maybe not two weeks.

On this day, 10 years ago, on July 7th, 2014, "Doraemon: Gadget Cat from the Future" made its official US premiere on @disneyxd with the first episode (containing the segments "All the Way From the Future World" & "The Mecha-Maker")!
Tumblr media
It was an English dub adaptation of the third "Doraemon" anime series, running since April of 2005 and still going strong! (with 700+ episodes as of July 2024)
Tumblr media
The dub had an incredibly high profile set of voice actors, starring Mona Marshall, Johnny Yong Bosch, Cassandra Lee Morris, Brian Beacock, and Kaiji Tang as the leads (Doraemon, Nobita/"Noby", Shizuka/"Sue", Suneo/"Sneech", and Takeshi "Gian"/"Big G"), with Mari Devon, Tony Oliver, Max Mittelman, Keith Silverstein, Spike Spencer, Minae Noji, Kirk Thornton, Cristina Vee playing the reoccuring set of secondary cast of the show's characters.
Tumblr media
The show centered around the life of a misfortunate boy named Nobita "Noby" Nobi who suffers from bad grades, bullying from his peers, scolding from his parents (his ferocious mom mainly), and is generally an awkward, lazy, kinda weird, and slow kid.
Tumblr media
A robotic cat from the 22nd century named Doraemon is sent back in time to aid Noby in his life, pulling out futuristic magical gadgets from his pocket that can turn everyday human life into something much more every day.
Hijinks ensue when Noby ends up misusing Doraemon's gadgets, often continuously using them for his selfish (or selfless sometimes) benefits until things get incredibly out of control either through inconveniences, bullies, or just... really really poor choices.
Occasionally every now and then, the show has little half hour adventures, such as Noby & the gang helping a group of little people ("A Little Adventure"), Doraemon & Noby seeing aliens ("Invasion of the Goat Aliens", "Doraemon and the Space Shooters"), Doraemon & Noby going after a time capsule ("Doraemon's Time Capsule"), escaping from a villian from the future ("A Visitor from the Future"), but generally overall, the show is incredibly episodic and formulaic with the premise listed above.
Tumblr media
The dub made numerous edits to the source material such as having the show's setting take place in a random no-name town in America instead of Japan, changing Japanese yen to American currency, removing content, motifying the character Shizuka's personality due to American viewers misunderstanding or getting confused over her original traits, etc.
Tumblr media
The cast of characters were also given Americanized names, though these are confirmed to be just nicknames, with it being implied that they still have their original names in media such as Stand By Me Doraemon 2 (the English dub) & in the English manga.
Tumblr media
It ran for a total of 52 episodes (with two 11 minute segments each with the exception of a few half hour specials that were dubbed, especially by season two) across two seasons from July 7th, 2014 to September 1st, 2015, being seemingly cancelled or sidelined by Disney quietly, with no official answer on the status of the dub.
According to Sneech Honekawa voice actor Brian Beacock via his TikTok on a stream from around 2020, Disney lost interest and didn't want to continue pushing the series.
Tumblr media
The show continued to air in reruns after the conclusion of the second season on Disney XD until on June 20th, 2018, it got preempted by a rerun of Phineas & Ferb and has never aired again nor been seen again on American television (photo above courtesy of Collin LW)
And sadly, as of 2024, there seem to be no plans to officially re-release the dub via formats, as its not on DVD and Blu-ray nor is it available on watch on major streaming services with anime like Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, or Crunchyroll.
Though thankfully, thanks to the efforts of an unknown to my head right now fan, the entire English dub's episodes in 1080p logoless quality (ripped from "Watch Disney XD" before being removed) is currently available to watch online on Archive.org (& MEGA), being helped made widespread by Doraemon US superfan & voice actor Collin LW!
Despite receiving some particularly heavy negative reception from several fans of the original Japanese dub over the years since its existence came to be, the dub has generally received positive feedback from those who saw it, especially from its devoted cult following. Particularly for the voice cast's performances, heartfelt moments, the cute cartoony artstyle, the fun cast of characters, the original soundtrack by Joseph Bauer, and the sense of witty hilarious humor that's been favorably compared to the likes of the 4Kids dubs of the "Pokemon" anime from the 1990s and 2000s.
Tumblr media
(What are your own personal thoughts on the dub? I'd love to hear in the replies and reblogs on your personal views and experiences on the series!)
Tumblr media
Again, happy tenth anniversary "Doraemon: Gadget Cat from the Future"!
Thanks to everyone who worked to make this dub possible and exposing so much people to this wonderful, timeless, underrated goofy, silly, heartfelt little show!
Still hope we get more of the dub via either a dub of one of the mainline movies (cough cough Doraemon: Nobita's Earth Symphony cough cough) or maybe another dose of the 2005 series somehow on Netflix after their Stand By Me Doraemon 2 release in 2021 ^^

Shogun gets renewed but Tokyo Vice gets cancelled. Show deserves as much love as Shogun. I blame the weak marketing for this. You hardly see any news of it, just a trailer or two, then silence. Unlike Shogun where you see promo clips and articles before, during and even after the show premiered. Tokyo Vice is so underrated.
Like Shogun, the ones who stole the show are the Japanese actors and actresses. Both the protagonist and antagonist characters are so well played. I watched both shows for Hiroyuki Sanada and Ken Watanabe but was surprised by the performance of the other actors and actresses. Hope Hulu, Amazon or Netflix can take over instead.

I really need the people who transcribe audio for netflix, hulu, hbo max ETC. to take a transcribing ethics class. i've been seeing so many subtitles either paraphrasing what's being said in the scene or straight up censoring a "bad" word. you cannot do that. that is wildly unethical for a lot of reasons. you need to make the subtitles match EXACTLY what is being said WORD FOR WORD i don't care if they say a word that makes YOU uncomfortable, it's not about you. these movies and tv shows have a script and things are being said for a REASON. by censoring and paraphrasing you are making a LOT of people miss out on some pretty important context.

Will’s Anime Watchlist for Fall 2024
Holy smokes, there’s a lot of great stuff coming out this season. Here’s my intial watchlist.
New shows for the season:
Uzumaki (Toonami/Max) (Been waiting on this one for a LONG time. About three or four years I think? First episode was pretty good. Excited to see the rest.)
DanDaDan (Crunchyroll/Hulu/Netflix) (Most anticipated show of the season. I saw the first three episodes in theaters. They were incredible. Anime of the year contender.)
Blue Box (Netflix) (Another highly anticipated show. Also potential anime of the year contender. It or DanDaDan could take best romance.)
Magilumiere (Amazon Prime Video) (I really like the source material but I’m a little worried the anime won’t be as good seeing as their hasn’t been a lot of ads for it, much like what happened with Red Cat Ramen/Ramen Akaneko. Will still watch it.)
Okay, now for returning series. There are a lot.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3: The Conflict (Hulu) (LET’S FUCKING GOOOOOO!!! Very excited because a) we’re about to see my favorite Bankai (Kyoraku’s) and b) the talks about additional scenes like an extension of Ichigo’s second fight with Yhwach as well new Ichihime and Renruki scenes has me pumped.)
Blue Lock Season 2 (Crunchyroll) (Hyped for this to come back. I’ve heard the next couple of arcs are pretty great. Still need to see Episode: Nagi.)
Shangri-La Frontier Season 2 (Crunchyroll) (I always love when there’s a video game anime that is just about people playing video games and there’s no life threating stakes. Might need to start the manga for this one.)
Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidded Deductions Season 2 (Crunchyroll) (Started reading the manga for this one partway into season one last year and am now caught up. Excited to see the anime’s take on the next couple of arcs.)
Beastars: Final Season Part 1 (Netflix) (It sucks that we’re getting this in parts and this part won’t be out till Christmas. But I’ll still enjoy it.)
Shows I might check out:
Toilet Bound Hanako-kun Season 2 (Crunchyroll) (Saw the first season when it came out and enjoyed it. I know a spin-off came out sonce then but I need to see if it’s required watching. May need to rewatch season one because I barely remember it.)
Dragon Ball Daima (Crunchyroll) (I’m not the biggest Dragon Ball fan but I do love the vibes of the OG series and this has a lot of those. Plus, Akira Toriyama was heavily involved before his untimely passing. May he rest in peace. Might also check out Sandland on Hulu.)
Dubs I’m rewatching: currently making my way through Undead Unluck. After that, either Frieren or Mashle.
Anyway, that’s it for my list! I’ll add more if I find any other shows that intrigue me. 😁

Just days after people gleefully posted their Spotify Wrapped, bad news came for the music streaming giant. Spotify announced today that it would cut 17 percent of its workforce, a chunk that equates to an estimated 1,500 people. It’s the third time the world’s largest music streamer has cut jobs this year.
The news came after Spotify posted its first profitable quarter since 2021. In a memo to staff, CEO Daniel Ek said the company had expanded its workforce and offerings significantly throughout 2020 and 2021, thanks to lower-cost capital, but is now bumping up against the same problems startups across industries are facing, like high capital costs and slowed economic growth.
Ek said the cuts may seem “surprisingly large given the recent positive earnings report and our performance,” but due to “the gap between our financial goal state and our current operational costs,” Spotify would take “substantial action.”
Despite its popularity (Spotify held 30 percent of the music streaming market by late 2022), the company has long struggled to turn consistent profits. The layoffs wrap up a bad year: Spotify cut 6 percent of its workforce last January, followed by another 2 percent in June as it slimmed down its podcasting business. Even as the world’s most recognizable music streaming service, Spotify is plagued by an unreliable business model, one in which record companies sit back and rake in royalty payments while artists can struggle to bring in enough cash.
“Investors are increasingly impatient in 2023 for tech firms to start making money,” says Phil Bird, head of rights and royalties at the software development company Vistex. Spotify isn’t alone—tech companies have slashed jobs throughout the year, with more than 250,000 people losing jobs worldwide in 2023, according to layoffs.fyi, a site that tracks job cuts in tech.
Many major tech companies that overhired during the pandemic have taken steps to rightsize—and that’s what Ek says Spotify is doing now. But Spotify’s high cost to license music adds to its financial strain. “The cost of doing business is huge for streaming companies,” Bird says.
Spotify gained momentum in the third quarter of 2023, earning €32 million ($34.6 million) in operating income. It now has 226 million subscribers and 574 million monthly users. “On the surface, it looks great,” says Simon Dyson, senior principal analyst of music and digital audio at consultancy firm Omdia. “It’s [those] nagging costs that it can’t get on top of.”
Spotify and the recording industry have a deeply entwined and sticky relationship: Spotify is seen by some as a savior of the music industry, which flailed after Napster upended music downloading in 1999, but artists earn wildly different incomes based on how Spotify pays. According to a calculation from Billboard, Taylor Swift may have earned nearly $100 million from streaming on Spotify so far this year. Smaller artists earn far less, and music streaming models have long been accused of exploiting them.
Like Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music are each charging $10.99 per month for premium subscriptions, and each give access to 100 million songs. But unlike Spotify, Apple and Amazon have massive streams of revenue elsewhere to fall back on. So Spotify has spent the past few years looking for that standout content. It spent more than $1 billion building its podcast world and acquiring exclusive deals to shows like The Joe Rogan Experience. This fall, it began offering paying subscribers in the UK and Australia free audiobook access for 15 hours each month.
The music streaming fight isn’t like the streaming wars, where Max, Netflix, Hulu, and others can each lure in subscribers with a combination of classic and original movies and shows. If Spotify were to charge more for music (it already increased monthly prices from $9.99 to 10.99 in the US this summer), it would risk losing people to comparable services, where people can find the same songs. But unless it can convince people to pay more for music, it might continue to struggle.
“It’s too cheap,” says Dyson. “To have access to every single piece of music that’s ever been released—and ever will be released—for $10 a month is just astounding.” The same is true of Spotify today as was true when it was founded 17 years ago: It’s a business that’s good for listeners and labels but bad for both streamers and artists.

they are going to be my fav couple to write about 🥹
mommy issues!JK
you laugh at jungkook’s antics as you watch him cook the delicious ramen. “you know you could use me as your personal cuddle bear?” jokes a blushing jungkook who’s hoping you’ll cuddle against him as the two of you watch movies together. you laugh “of course i know that, silly. you’d let me use you for anything huh?”
your eyes widen in horror at the horrible words that came from your lips. “n-not like that though! oh God that sounded mean. i’m sorry” you stutter as you begin to play with the rim of your shirt while mentally berating yourself.
jungkook on the other hand, doesn’t seem to be offended but you still apologized because it wasn’t the nicest thing to say. to keep the atmosphere from being awkward, jungkook instructs you to pick a movie of your choice no matter what it is. personally, he’s hoping you’ll choose a romantic or a thriller movie so you’ll snuggle against him but he’ll love whatever you pick.
you then grab the remote and begin browsing all the streaming apps jungkook has on his television for a good movie: netflix, disney+, viki, hbo max, hulu, even crunchyroll. “you must watch a lot of tv” you joke but you settle on watching bridgerton since jungkook said the new season is pretty good.
once jungkook finishes up in the kitchen, he instructs you to start the tv show. he comes with two bowls of hot ramen that smells awfully delicious, two wine glasses, a bottle of sweet wine, and a fuzzy blanket big enough for the two of you to share. the lights in the living room as turned off and despite your excitement to watch bridgerton, you’re even more excited to taste jungkook’s ramen since he claimed to be the “ramen master.”
using your chopsticks, you blow before slurping up the noodles and—
“holy shit” you curse. “what the hell? this is delicious. i think you might actually the ramen master. not even my ramen tastes this good”
you drive in for another bite of the delicious ramen that contains a hint of spice that you absurdly love. the more you chew it, the more you find yourself falling in love with jungkook’s cooking. you begin to wonder if he’s the master of other yummy foods.
“think i might pay you to be my personal chef, mr. jeon” you lightly shove jungkook before saying “you’re just full of surprises, aren’t you?”
you set your bowl down and pop the wine bottle open. you pour some in both yours and jungkook’s glass before taking a swig of the alcoholic beverage.
after setting the glass down, you scoot closer to jungkook and snuggle against the bashful man who smells so refreshing, almost like a baby. of course, you both are a little tense but after a couple episodes of the drama series, jungkook has his hand wrapped securely around you as your head lays on his chest.
~🫧
This is like a dream come true, you’re so close to him, it’s almost morning but you both don’t move away from each other.
Jungkook pretends to watch bridgerton but the truth is he’s watching you, carefully, especially your lips. He might have a fixation with them.
He really feels like kissing you, it’s time to make a move, he needs this relationship to escalate on the next level.
He is aware that this relationship is going very slow with little improvement, he needs to make sure you like him alot.
To the point of madness just like he likes you.
His hand tightens on your waist, “yn..” he picks up the remote and pauses the show. And looks into your eyes as he sit up on the couch.
You do the same thing.
“I want more. I can’t help it.,” he looks into your eyes, his eyes burning with desire. “I’m not saying let’s fuck but- I want to be able to kiss you whenever I want.” He confesses.
“I want the world to know you’re mine.” He gets even closer, his tone shifting, his eyes darkening. “I don’t give two fucks about that crazy bitch chaeyoung or Nara.” He speaks calmly.
Yet his heart is going crazy.
“Yn it’s hard for me to tell what’s going on in that brain of yours… I want to kiss you until I can’t anymore.” His eyes wander to your lips again.
“I know I’m a little intense but please I need a chance- please… I’ll love you like a devotee.” His hand settles on your thigh.
“I need your affection- I know you don’t love me but I’ll make you fall in love with me in no time- you just have to let me in..” he caresses your cheek.
“Please let me in, pretty girl.”

Hello everybody! I just wanted to make a post to list the shows I've been watching. I no longer have ONE show I'm obsessed with (which is probably better for my mental health) but I'm consuming a few different shows as the series stream or broadcast. Not always in one go. I watch like one show a night and then occasionally binge watch something or other. Here's my list in no particular order.
X-Files
So You Think You Can Dance
Abbot Elementary
Bridgerton
Fallout
Umbrella Academy
Stranger Things
The Bear
Death and Other Details (bleh do not recommend.)
School Spirits
Witcher
Ghosts (USA)
Moonlighting (started it and the pilot was good but then it felt like harassment not 'great chemistry' as its famous for so I'm not sure I'm going continue with it.)
I am taking asks. Also recs, although I don't guarantee I'll watch them. I have netflix, max, prime hulu and disney. I'm pretty sure I've forgotten some of the shows I watch especially if I'm waiting for a new season. I think I'll pin this and edit it when I remember.
Oh, how about a list of what I'd like to watch? So far.

Runners-up to my list of top 10 animated TV series of 2023
There are five series which are runners-up to this top-ten list. This includes My Dad the Bounty Hunter, with a collective score of 4.65 for seasons one and two, on Netflix, Unicorn: Warriors Eternal in Max, Star Wars: The Bad Batch on Disney+, Star Trek: Lower Decks on Paramount+, and Futurama on Hulu. While I also reviewed Kiff (on Disney+) and Velma (on Max), both were mediocre series in my opinion. On the other hand, I watched rad series like Scott Pilgrim Takes Off!, Hailey's On It!, and Scavengers Reign, which I enjoyed, and would recommend.
This contrasted with Gods' School, an ongoing indie animated series. There are few currently airing indie animations, other than Helluva Boss, Godspeed (created by Olan Rogers of Final Space) pilot, Zeurel's Monkey Wrench, EddsWorld, Bob's World, Nora and Zin, and Swift Spark and the Defense Five. Some indie animations are in development, such as Far-Fetched, Lackadaisy, Lumi and the Great Big Galaxy, Defenders of Alodia, Mugshot & Pollen, and The West Patch. Others include Captain Zero, LimeLight, Sunnyside: Royals of Cora, Battle of the Bands, Wild Card, and Fighting All Odds. Although a "boom" or "renaissance" is debatable, more series are being produced today.
2024 will see Hailey's On It! season one conclude, premiere of indie-ish Hazbin Hotel, and two Cartoon Network series: Invincible Fight Girl and Iyanu: Child of Wonder. The Ghost and Molly McGee season 2 will end. Velma season 2 will be released. Star Wars: The Bad Batch will end, as will Invincible season two. Primos will air, as will Stugo, X-Man 97, Creature Commandos, and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. Possibly, Arcane season 2 will premiere, as will Ark: The Animated Series, Asterix, and Iwájú. 2024 portends to be a good year for animation no matter what, even if The Animation Guild strikes.
