A little progress on this! Still a long way to go
Hahaha shout out to the punk yoshi just appearing out of nowhere and just freezing into place
Also, I was asked to make the better rendered version of the "Reunite" drawing aka the forehead touching drawing, and I'm doing it 😁
Tumblr media
I'm just kinda slow, but I'll try to finish it soon.

Tired: Rise!Splinter is a neglectful and awful father who doesn’t care about his kids >:(
Wired: Rise!Splinter’s negligence comes from a place of deep trauma that he’s carried with him his whole life – losing his mother, having been betrayed by the love of is life, being imprisoned and forced to fight for his life, used as an experiment and subsequently being mutated and losing his whole identity as a person – and while it certainly doesn’t excuse his behavior, there is no doubt that this man loves his sons fiercely despite his own shortcomings and perhaps it is exactly that love and care that causes him to keep his children at arms length in hopes to spare them his family’s cursed legacy that grooms them into martyrs and are thus destined to die young, a sacrifice for the greater good that Splinter is never willing to make even if it means forfeiting the world to the Shredder. Splinter’s journey of fatherhood began by being completely unprepared as a fresh young single father of four young children that depend on him to survive and there is no surprise he’s hit almost every bump there possibly is when raising a child but never in his life has Splinter ever blamed or resented his children in any way – he is not perfect and he’s aware and he tries to do better all because he loves his kids this fucking much bc despite all the shit he’s been through, those kids made him realize that he can try again. to dismiss him as an awful father is a gross mischaracterization of a deeply traumatized man of color who evidently tried his fucking hardest not to pass on the hurt onto his own children while grappling with his own demons and the crushing destiny of his family’s blood line that took away his mother.

Me when they confirm in Roku's 2nd novel that Ta Min has had the hots for Roku since school started (or sooner) but didn't say anything because of Sozin or something, and thus perpetuating the Ta Min/Rangi and Sozin/Yun parallel:

just had a random thought: what if splinter starting going by that name when he met april. like, picture the context, he has four kids who have been calling him variations of dad since they could talk and he's rarely if ever interacted with other people since leaving the hidden city. he's gone by two names previously (and is no longer truly comfortable with either) but hasn't used either name in years. Again, his kids just call him dad and they're most likely the only people he talks to. so when he finally meets april, she asks what his name is, and he completely blanks and tells her the first word that comes to mind. maybe he's looking at his hands and notices a silver of wood from a box he was moving earlier. maybe he glances at an old crate and the word just comes out. maybe he's so disconnected from who he was before that even though he has two names he could give, he makes one up on the spot.

i remembered it’s my house and you can’t stop me from incoherently rambling about my iteration, anyway my thoughts on splinter and mikey’s relationship in bay area below
mikey probably has the rockiest relationship with splinter out of the turtles. mikey is the most emotionally intelligent, so he is most aware that splinter’s parenting is severely lacking. mikey is also the oldest and took it upon themself to pick up where splinter is failing for their younger siblings. the biggest point of contention is them being raised as ninjas, mikey is firmly against this. she doesn’t think being raised to be soldiers from such a young age is good for them at all (most evident in leo). all this and probably things i’m forgetting make mikey resent splinter for not properly raising their siblings. but, mikey cares about splinter and can’t bring themself to hate splinter because they also understand and empathize with splinter’s circumstances. he knows splinter didn’t ask for this, he knows splinter wasn’t prepared to be a parent, and he knows that splinter has gone through his own trauma that he hasn’t healed from. these factors make mikey have very mixed feelings on splinter at times. mikey doesn’t usually have big fights with splinter, mostly cold attitudes and arguments, but she tries to hide that from her siblings and is kind to splinter despite her feelings.
yoshi really does love his kids. he could have abandoned them in the sewer if he didn’t, but he felt pity and kinship for them that quickly grew into fatherly love. but he has no idea what he’s doing, he had his own unorthodox upbringing that didn’t give him a good example of how to raise kids. he is trying his best, but with his own grief and the looming threat of the foot he is distant and unable to properly be there for his kids in the way they need. he sees his initial rejection of being a ninja as a huge mistake in his life, one he tries his best to make sure his kids don’t repeat. so he is annoyed and frustrated that mikey is following in the same path of rejecting his duties as a hamato ninja. he knows he and mikey disagree, but i don’t think he realizes how deeply he’s hurt mikey with his actions. he wants mikey to be more serious and stop encouraging her siblings to rebel but can’t get him to listen. he wants the turtles to be able to protect themselves from the foot and any other threat to them so he is upset that mikey doesn’t take training seriously like the others. splinter wants what he thinks is best for his kids, and he doesn’t realize that’s not what they need.

Ranking the seven star children based on how much use they get out of their considerable magical potential.
Peach: Literally a formally trained mage specializing in Star and Heart magic.
Bowser: Also a formally trained mage but prefers to rely on his brute strength.
Luigi: Has an affinity for the supernatural, spirits especially. If the Bros run into some weird magical gimmick it's usually him that acts as a catalyst for it. That whole thing with the Chaos Heart.
Wario: Knows a few spells but hasn't really used them for anything in particular in canon since he started WarioWare Inc.
Mario: Mostly just has Firebrand and a few small things here and there. Most of the time he's borrowing from external sources.
Yoshi: Occasionally unclear what powers are just standard Yoshi biology and which ones are specific to him.
Donkey Kong: Monki

ko-fi | aetherlink | glamourdresser
wisdom's cloak has received an overhaul, mainly in how it's packaged! :) the weight errors on the clasp are completely fixed, and the cloak is now dyeable using the new two-channel dyeing system and a tool like glamourer or anamnesis! it's also available on multiple accessory items to make it more compatible with existing glamours/mods, and these items' metadata has been altered so that the cloak won't disappear on tops or gloves that hide accessories. finally, an option to hide the back pouch on bizu's "wisdom's blouse" (which this cloak was fitted to) has been added if the clipping bothers you.
