It's Luigi breaking his focus to look at his brother, but instead of seeing him running for the star he sees Mario standing there with his hand outstretched.

It's Mario's little nod. He's injured and doesn't know exactly what's about to happen, but his motion is still tinged with reassurance. Reassurance that it's all going to be okay, and that despite everything he's accomplished on his own, all he wants is to have his brother back by his side.

It's Luigi's reaction. He pauses not out of doubt, but out of surprise. Even in a situation this dire Mario will take a moment to wait for him, encourage him, and let him make the choice to take his hand.

It's the quickness and certainty with which Luigi takes the hand once the shock has faded. It's the complete faith in his eyes.

It's the essence of Mario's absolute devotion and Luigi's diehard loyalty packed into three seconds of animation.

Can we talk for a moment about how much Luigi is a physical tease?

I literally laughed at that scene in BiS (though I played the DS version, not the 3DS) because it somehow seemed so in character but so unexpected at the same time. It made me happier knowing that somehow this carried over into the movie because I don't think any of the RPG games got much in terms of references to them.

It's a more minor and less well known trait of Luigi's, but it does make his character that much more interesting.

I was having a MARVELOUS amount of productive timing for this update until my brain hit me with the “what if spin off Mario characters used Power Ups” question and I got side tracked for a moment there 👁️👄👁️. Then I got HIT with the Cookie Run bug and played for three days straight (I have made poor financial decisions).

Then you have all the stress going on in this STUPID ASS country keeping me from focusing on my creativity, and it’s only the first month of the year AHAHAHAHAHA fml.

Despite all this, I am trying my best to do my self proclaimed job as a story teller and PROCEED WITH THE DRAWING >:D.

THE SHOW MUST GO ON!

While we're on the subject of the Mario movie again...

Ever just think about how sweet it was when we see how excited Peach gets at meeting Mario for the first time and it's entirely because he's human?

It is sweet. I do love those little moments where Peach's excitement puts a crack in her monarchal coolness and she gets all bubbly.

Then there’s poor Mario. He just wants help finding brother, and now he’s being prodded at like a strange zoo animal and being asked “you are a human right? It’s just you’re so small” the poor man cannot catch a break from anyone.

As someone who grew up in a household where men were never allowed to show affection, let alone to another man, from fear of being seen as weak.............

These forehead touches between friends/bros are so healing to me. Please, we need more of this. Platonic affection between men is beautiful, and I wish I had grown up with it.

Gah, I fall more and more in love with your art style with each piece of fanart you drop. It’s just so adorable and delightful! And I love the mix of monotonous and vivid colors here! I just wanna hug and squish your bros– they’re so cute 🥹 Your Bowser’s cute too, even when he makes his angry faces. I don’t remember who the artist was, but I saw fanart where Bowser was called burger-shaped. That’s how I’d describe your Bowser 😂

The characters don’t feel OOC to me! I love how Luigi feels empathetic towards Bowser yet stands his ground about his wrongdoing. And, at the end of it all, he believes that everyone deserves a chance of redemption, of acknowledging their faults and past grievances and changing for the better. That feels like a very Luigi-way of approaching something like this. And Bowser rejecting Luigi’s kindness at first then feeling a change once he realizes, yes, Luigi truly does believe he deserves a chance does feel in-character. As for Mario, I do believe that he’s not the kind of person to hold grudges. But, given how Bowser had hurt and nearly killed his brother, it makes sense that he’d have a harder time believing the same and feeling comfortable with Luigi interacting with him. But he ultimately trusts Luigi and his judgment, which really shows a healthiness in their relationship. And side-note, the way he holds and squishes Luigi’s face is too precious 🥺☺️

Long story short: I am loving this already! Looking forward to seeing where it goes! 😁🥰

‘Monster’ Friend • Part 1

(Part 1 of I dunno how many, lol, of my fancomic. It is movie based. As always just a reminder that this comic stays 100% platonic between Luigi and Bowser, though people can see it however they want, I’m not going to stop you. xD But, just letting you know where my intentions stand.
