Very simple. Simply stated. Simple truth spoken. Lately, I’ve been working on poses that bring out what I need to and I’m ok with the uncomfortable feelings that arise. It’s good to allow those feelings to come up, just sit with it and allow yourself to feel those feelings. I know, I’m one of those that likes to push aside those feelings. But it’s not healthy to your mind or body to ignore what it’s telling you. Thankfully I have @cedarandsoul to look to and help me realize it’s a good process to work through these emotions. Your hips have so much to say and work through, it’s best to work through them, slowly, allowing yourself to feel grief, sadness, anxiety, depression to come to the surface. As long as you don’t push it and just work through it. You’ll feel much better in the end. We are all so quick to try and get past it. It’s not healthy though. It will come up again and much stronger.. I’m grateful that #stralayoga has taught me so much about allowing ease, flow, intuition, freedom & not forcing feelings or poses. Just working gently with what my body is telling me. In other yogas I’ve practiced, I’ve forced through poses, was worried about perfect alignment, pushing past the brink (thinking it was helping me and stress).. It was not, only inducing the stress. Thanks to STRALA and the people I care about guiding STRALA to constantly remind me, it’s not worth pushing, pushing so much that my feelings were worse and my body took that toll. That’s NOT the reason to practice yoga, many teach it and end up thinking they are benefiting from it. But they are not.. Sorry for the rant, but it’s important for me as a guide, healer, teacher or whatever you want to call me:) to lead in a way that helps you. It is my true calling to help you and me both. So, next time you practice yoga, only go through the flow with your feelings in mind of how your body, mind & spirit would like for you.. Some weeks back, I found myself journaling, as I do, to explore the darker paths of my inner universe. It struck me that my work, both personal and as a yoga guide, shines light into these spaces, not so they may be shunned, but rather seen and healed. My Dharma, at its simplest is to be a light. In that moment, a tattoo idea flooded through me. By the magical @sierra_tattoo_art , as usual, this spell from Harry Potter means "Light." A constant reminder. The yellow is a nod to being a proud Hufflepuff. It reminds me there is a light that I hold, even on the darkest days. It shows me what lies within- my inner flame, my sacred life spark. These last seven months have tested me on every level. It has been the most difficult, emotional year thus far, but one of the most transformative. Between my accident, injury, insurance, family, and the lessons that arose, everything was challenged. Everything shifted and continues to flow. My long held shadows flew into open space to be acknowledged. My beliefs, outlook, sense of self, physical and mental endurance, relationship, my hope, patience, yoga practice bent under the weight of it all. Some days, I lose myself in the darkness. Yet time and time again, no matter how difficult, I return to my inner light, refusing to forget its warmth. It is always within, a loving reminder that... Many of you asked how I prepare for it... so I’m sharing with you how I warm up. It works for me... 😊 a lot of this pose comes with upper spine flexibility so, after the bridge I practice the forearm wheel (pushing the chest outward) and then start to push the glutei down. It is rather intense. After this, doing alien with straight arms feels even easier! Please, when giving it a try, make sure you warm up properly and enough. Try to find a place outdoor to practice that’s peaceful and quiet. The most important thing is that you have enough space to stretch out. And you will be more likely to destress your mind if the space you are practising in is also stress-free. About poses and movements, check my stretch meditationd and choose a session that you likely will enjoy so you’ll have an incentive to repeat the same poses and movements. What about practising with friends? You could decide to do this physically or commit to doing an online class at the same time / day each week. This helps to keep you motivated and you can share your experiences.
