I love how Epic is a story about how sometimes, you change in ways you can't undo. Sometimes it's a choice, and sometimes it's something that happens to you; often, it's both. You might lose your old self in the process of surviving.

I’ve been seeing a lot of people shit on straight couples in shipping and in general as a "joke" lately, particularly in the Dungeon Meshi fandom. Friendly reminder that, besides the evil straights, when you mock or put down straight couples for being straight/"not queer enough", you also make bi and pan people, and trans and ace people who experience hetero attraction feel unwelcome and lesser. Negativity hurts, love is love, happy valentine’s!

i think a lot of people take “beginner” art for granted but for me it’s the most beautiful thing i could ever imagine. raw creativity and passion pushing forward despite the obstacles, of course, it’s proving that someone isn’t afraid to look “bad”- or may be a child’s art who genuinely is very proud of their piece! and they should be! it’s a testament to what we can do as humans!

but something more unique and special to me is that any beginner can start the process of learning how to draw in a more practiced, polished manner, but there isn’t any way to UNlearn those skills. have you ever seen an artist trying to draw badly on purpose? often times you just have a gut feeling that it’s not a rookie’s drawing when looking at it. the essence is always gonna be there. that’s what makes it special to me, these specific breaking and bending of rules that is impossible to reach.

these are all pieces of art i drew growing up. i can never make these mistakes that stylize these pictures the way they are because i just simply could never THINK to do it, mistakes that would baffle me today because they feel almost second nature. but that makes this art feel just so DIFFERENT to me, so raw… it’s not something you can find on network tv, or at the box office, but if you look at my old art… well, can’t you say you got some enjoyment out of seeing it? isn’t there some appeal to it? it was made by someone who loves to draw and is doing it over and over again no matter how hard it is! isn’t that wonderful?

A blade… I, I needed to find a blade.” <- this scene (chapter 515) actually broke my heart, i genuinely felt sick reading it. he’s so desperate to die that it’s honestly palpable, it’s like finally seeing that truth behind the snarky mask kim dokja always wears. it took me until this point to realize that every time he tried to sacrifice himself for his companions, it wasn’t just a well thought out plan but a true, genuine suicidality and the acceptance that he might not come back. that he isn’t worthy of living a good, happy life with a happy ending. (which maybe i’m just slow, but i really fell for dokja’s lies, every single time i thought to myself “everything’s going to be fine because he has a plan to survive this,” and almost every single time i was right. except for the end i suppose.)
