He deserved better. Happy birthday Lance. We all hate this ep right? In addition to just being filler, it’s endless pounding on poor Lance. And there’s no way in hell that “Bob”, a possibly omniscient and all powerful god being, felt that the paladins passed his test when everyone had something lovely to say about a teammate EXCEPT Lance who was insulted. Again. I can only project that “Bob” could read Keith’s mind and knew he was doing the classic “Keith is bad at feelings”™ and was covering his love with an insult. But in a world where the writers didn’t hate Lance, this would be how the paladins truly pass the test.

My delusional headcanon for this episode ever since it dropped is that the werewolf that Mazey ran over and eventually got bitten by is (former) Lieutenant Decker from LOVE DEATH + ROBOTS: Shape-Shifters. It makes more sense if you watched both episodes back-to-back in ways I cannot explain within a few sentences at this writing since I need to do other things atm sorry.

Absolutely bonkers that there's an episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine where Jake Peralta gets someone deported, whilst knowing it's a really delicate situation involving an adopted and traumatised child. Yet we're still supposed to root for him? The only person to get annoyed (Boyle) forgives him after one conversation and that's just the end of it?!

It's kind of a shame that the "anti-filler" mentality has reached a point where a lot of writers (and fans) assume that if a show isnt constantly moving the plot forward and establishing lore, its basically filler and wasting space. Personally I think its good, if not necessary for a show to slow down and just have characters hang out, or deal with smaller conflicts.

It feels like a lot of stories just want to rush to the emotional scenes with barely any build up to really make it feel earned and satisfying. I've seen fans pester creators to rush the story along and reach the next big set piece rather than take the time to really know and appreciate the characters.

Why should I care about the emotional stakes in episode 2 when I barely know a character's likes and dislikes? how they handle conflict, their approach to relationships both platonic and romantic. etc,
