I really appreciate how Danny never made Kelvin's sexuality the butt of the joke. Instead, it was the rest of the world that should've been shamed. Masterclass acting and writing. Love how this is how our boy's arc gets to conclude - on such a high note! Looking forward to a potential wedding arc with him and Keefe in the finale 👀
cheers sons crying

Now that my dear mutuals have finally watched The Wrath of Khan courtesy of yours truly, I can commence with the next edition of my series on “all the casual Spirk-y moments in the movies”:
Jim smiling at Spock after the Kobayashi Maru test, teasing him that he’s dead and so is everyone on the ship
Spock getting Jim an antique book that Jim loves (showing how well they know each other)
“He’s so… human.” “Nobody’s perfect.”
Before he would’ve been annoyed at Jim’s humanity, but now he just looks on with fondness—his humanity isn’t a flaw but an asset
Jim trying to give command to Spock since it’s the right thing to do, but Spock knowing how desperately Kirk wants it & being aware that Jim needs to command right now for his mental health
“Commanding a starship is your first, best destiny. Anything else is a waste of material.”
“You are my commanding officer. You are also my friend. I have been and shall always be yours.”
Not ashamed of friendship anymore! Spock is unabashed about his love/affection for Jim and doesn’t care who knows it
Saavik quoting regulations at Jim and Spock immediately shutting her down in his defense (“the admiral knows the regulations”) even though he’s always the one to stick by the very same regs
When Jim realizes he needs to negotiate terms of surrender, he immediately looks desperately at Spock, since it’s always been Spock who has gotten him out of no-win scenarios in the past
Jim and Spock nearly wordlessly communicating to get the Reliant’s prefix code & working seamlessly when no one else knows what they’re talking about
When Jim, McCoy, and Saavik are about to beam down, Spock says with extreme concern “Jim, be careful” while not gaf about anyone else (Bones even points this out)
More wordless communication between Jim & Spock where Spock literally lies on the communicator to throw Khan off, but Jim still trusts/knows him enough somehow to exactly predict when he’s going to be back to beam them back up
As soon as he sees Spock he beams as he cries “Spock!” and rushes toward him
Spock deciding to sacrifice himself for Jim/the Enterprise without hesitation
After Jim notices Spock is gone from the bridge, he goes into a near-panic, rushing toward the warp drive and even pushing a crew member out of the way to get to Spock faster (uncharacteristically, his voice shakes when giving Saavik the con)
When Jim sees that Spock is dying, he rushes toward him in desperation and has to be physically held back by both Bones and Scotty
Jim crying out in tears for “Spock!” and Spock, blinded now, still knowing that it’s Jim just because of that one word
Spock still adjusting his uniform for Jim when he turns around because he wants to look presentable even in his last moments
Jim’s absolute horror as the graceful Vulcan he knows crashes into the door
Spock repeating that he has been and always shall be Jim’s friend and imploring him not to grieve because it was logical
Spock, with his last strength, pressing the Vulcan salute to the glass as Jim presses his own palm to it, then slowly falling to the floor
Jim follows him down and begins tearing up, completely anguished
Finally, Spock telling Jim to live long and prosper with his last breath
He doesn’t want Jim to be caught up in his grief; he wants Jim to continue living and thriving
When he sees Spock collapse dead, all Jim can say is “no” (softly, helplessly) as he collapses with him
He has a thousand-yard stare as he gazes at nothing, completely lost in his grief
He does not even cry - the enormity of his grief is too much
“Of all the souls I have encountered, his was the most… human.”
Jim’s voice cracks as he delivers this eulogy and he’s barely keeping it together
David telling Jim that he’s never had to face death, and Jim agreeing that it’s never been like this before (despite the fact that he’s endured the death of his brother, several lovers including his wife & unborn child, crew members he’s responsible for, etc none can compare to Spock)
He looks completely defeated and empty, like he’s unable to feel any happiness or really anything at all anymore
Jim admits he really should be on the bridge but he can’t bring himself to go
Jim has never shied away from his duty until now
Jim melts into David’s hug, essentially a stranger, because he’s so upset
Jim looking wistfully at the Genesis planet as he remarks “it’s a far, far better thing I do than I have ever done before” - Spock’s parting gift to him for his birthday, a remark that it’s better to have died saving the greater good than to live knowing that you could’ve
Jim feels young upon reflecting on this, knowing that Spock would’ve wanted him to keep going but resolving to always visit the Genesis planet but also realizing that he has many more lonely decades without Spock
This movie broke my heart when I first saw it, but it was much more fun the next time around where I got to lie to my friend @phobicon that Spock totally didn’t die… (btw dear mutual, stop reading here if you don’t want spoilers)

The nicest part about introducing Star Trek to a group of young - and in particular majority queer - people is that the Kirk/Spock ship is simply accepted as reality. Absolutely no one questions it because they all see the subtext.
For example my friend @onepointlessgoose and I wrote a Julius Caesar themed murder mystery from scratch, and had two of our friends play Kirk and Spock. And even though being a couple was not part of their character, everyone in the group simply accepted that they were a couple anyway, because of course K/S are.
I just think that's beautiful.

In honor of my favorite holiday, I wrote an Elizabethan sonnet:
The hand that held the pen and wrote the deed,
Will tremble not, when steel is brought to bear,
A fatal script, when the secret did bleed,
A forced tragedy in the Roman air.
For steel, like words, can pierce a fragile heart,
And ink, like blades, can leave a crimson stain.
Will Julius know, when knives play their part,
That words can kill, and memory remain?
Thoust who holds the pen, and will wield the blade,
Will live undaunted, die in infamy,
For every word and every stroke soon made,
Shall thusly define his mortality.
So let us learn, from Julius’s last sigh,
That words and blades, both, make wicked men die.

I feel like he's the type to know all the composers and bring that up at inopportune times. He's also, of course, a biiiig fan of Spock's lyre.

TOS Ships - Final Bracket and Stats
After the success of my TOS episode bracket (where Amok Time won, because of course it did), I launched a TOS ship bracket! Now, nearly 2 months after I first came up with the idea, here’s the final bracket!

Some ships won in an (expected) landslide victory — looking at you Spones vs Kuhura — but others were much closer. As most of us probably expected, McSpirk took the crown from top-seeded Spones. Its victory, however, would soon be challenged by the ultimate ship… Spirk.
Despite a fierce fight by the McSpirkers (that made my poll get over 2000 votes!), the Spirk shippers came out on top. I do need to give a shout-out to the McSpirkers though, since they came back from a 74/26 trail to briefly lead the poll before concluding at a respectable 47%. Solid work guys!
Now, with both brackets concluded, what sort of bracket should I do next? A favorite character bracket (even though we already know Spock is gonna win)? A Kirk-love-interest bracket? Or shall I give up on the bracket idea altogether and simply post polls according to whatever I or my friends come up with? Let me know in the tags!
Until then, I’ll be posting random polls as usual...
