My Maomao x Shisui heart shakes and falls to the ground

So last year I made a personal color analysis on Maomao and Jinshi and concluded that Maomao was a summer and Jinshi was a winter. (Link to that post)

And then episode 5 of season 2 of The Apothecary Diaries came out and lo and behold I was onto something.

So now that I’m a bit more educated on personal color analyzing, let’s see why I chose summer for Maomao using her moon goddess attendant outfit and winter for Jinshi using his moon goddess outfit.

(Also let’s be clear cause I had someone almost get triggered the last time I did this: I love Maomao. She is amazing and intelligent and beautiful in her own way. Just let me nerd out okay.)

Anyways let’s start with Maomao. I like this outfit. The teal accents are really good on her. And I love the purple on her. These shades balance her dark green hair and skin tone well. The purples and teals are also mostly from the summer palette. I also love how Maomao is wearing silver. I speculated how if Maomao is a summer, silver might suit her better. And I think I right honestly. The silver doesn’t make her look too dramatic but still makes her look elegant.

However, I do want to point out the specific shades of pink. I said before that Maomao looks amazing in pink. Her garden tea party outfit is by far my favorite outfit of hers. But there are differences.

Going off the more muted palette of her dress, I’d say there is a mixed of both muted/soft autumn and muted/soft summer. People sometimes get confused on if a muted shade is cool or warm. But this makes some autumn colors easy to incorporate into a summer palette. Also that pink shade I was having trouble deciding if it was a summer or too warm to be a summer, it’s actually more autumn.

Also, I don’t think muted colors really suit Maomao. I know that Maomao mostly wears muted colors but they make her look more dull and washed out. We see these with her disguise when she goes to the Crystal Pavilion.

However, I think there’s a reason why Maomao is put in muted colors. Maomao doesn’t like attention and wants to keep a low profile. We see this especially in episode 5 of season 2. Maomao doesn’t want to be the star in this dancing moon goddess scheme; that’s Jinshi’a job. She needs to be in hiding at night. She needs to be inconspicuous.
