Lieutenant Audie Murphy was the most highly decorated soldier in American history. On May 28, 1971, Audie Murphy boarded a private jet in Atlanta, Georgia, and made his way toward Martinsville, Virginia. There was heavy fog but the pilot chose to fly through it. The Aero Commander 680 carrying Murphy crashed into the side of Brush Mountain, 20 miles west of Roanoke. There were no survivors.
He was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery, Section 46, headstone number 46-366-11. Outside of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and President John F. Kennedy, Murphy’s headstone is the most-visited grave. The volume of tourists visiting to pay respects was so great that they had to build an entirely new flagstone walkway to accommodate the foot traffic.

Today is the 83rd anniversary of the Babyn Yar Massacre.
Over two days from September 29-30, 1941, the Nazis shot over 30,000 Jews in Kyiv. Entire families were forced to walk down to the ravine on the "Road of Death". Around 100,000 people were killed at Babyn Yar during the Nazi occupation.
Babyn Yar is a terrifying symbol, showing that the most heinous crimes occur when the world chooses to ignore, remain silent, stay indifferent, and lacks the determination to stand up against evil. When the eyes of the world are closed, humanity loses. Babyn Yar is vivid proof of the atrocities that regimes are capable of when led by leaders who rely on intimidation and violence. —Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The site of Babyn Yar and its memorials (like the large menorah above) have increased in significance since Russia's full scale invasion. It was attacked in March 2022. The most iconic memorials escaped damage, but the main grounds suffered burnt and uprooted trees and damage to a building that was designated to be used for a museum (it had not been in use yet at that time).
After the attack in 2022, the chair of Babyn Yar's advisory board, Natan Sharansky said, "It is symbolic that [Russian President Vladimir Putin] starts attacking Kyiv by bombing the site of the Babyn Yar, the biggest Nazi massacre."
As Russia has frequently done, Sharansky said Putin had sought to "distort and manipulate the Holocaust to justify an illegal invasion of a sovereign democratic country." Russian propaganda has frequently called Ukraine a country of "neo-nazis" and that Russia's goal is to "denazify" Ukraine.
This isn't the first time Russia has tried to manipulate and erase history, especially when it comes to Babyn Yar.
"They physically tried to destroy these graves and delete the history, it's unbelievable how important it was for Soviets to change the nature of the place," Sharansky said. "There were so many attempts to erase Babyn Yar and change its nature, finally we turned it into a big memorial, and that is once again overshadowed by Russian aggression."
For decades under Soviet rule, the victims of Babyn Yar were only referred to as "Soviet" victims with no mention of Jews being the main victims. Finally, the large menorah memorial was erected in the 1990s under an independent Ukraine.

These photos show the Mirror Field installation to honor the victims of Babyn Yar. The memorial has visual and audio components to it that visitors can experience.
The main symbol is the Tree of Life, which is found in many religions and mythologies around the world. "The Babyn Yar tragedy shows how easily this tree can be destroyed, and its branches — broken."
This memorial is entirely made of stainless steel, with the main podium being a mirror disk of 40 meters in diameter accompanied by 10 reflective pillars that are 6 meters tall. "The columns and the disk were shot through by bullets of the same caliber that the Nazis used during execution in Babyn Yar."
Below you can find a 360 degree video of it here for an example of the audio-visual experience. To read more on this memorial and about the audio experience, you can read about it here.

Maryhill Stonehenge, WA (No. 1)
The Maryhill Stonehenge is a replica of England's  Stonehenge  located in Maryhill, Washington, United States. It was commissioned in the early 20th century by the wealthy entrepreneur Sam Hill, and dedicated on July 4, 1918 as a memorial to the people who had died in World War I.
The memorial is constructed of concrete, and construction was commenced in 1918 and completed in 1929. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.
The Maryhill Stonehenge was the first monument in the United States to honor the dead of World War I – specifically, soldiers from Klickitat County, Washington, who had died in the then-ongoing war. The altar stone is placed to be aligned with sunrise on the summer solstice.
Following the then-prevalent interpretation of Stonehenge, Hill thought that the original monument had been used as a sacrificial site. He was a Quaker and commissioned the replica as a reminder that humanity is still capable of being sacrificed to the god of war.

"German messenger dog gas mask, WWl. Captured by the 41st Australian Infantry Battalion and now part of the collection of the Australian War Memorial.
During the First World War, thousands of dogs were trained to deliver messages to the front, carry equipment, and assist the wounded. They were exposed to many of the same dangers as the men on the front line. With the introduction of gas warfare, both sides of the conflict developed masks to protect dogs."

On November 10, 1918, the Western Union Cable Office in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, received a top-secret coded message from Europe (that would be sent to Ottawa and Washington, D.C.) that said on November 11, 1918, all fighting would cease on land, sea and in the air.

on that last note, war au ink and error beef oughhhhh the girls are fightinggggggg
the multiverse is collapsing due to the disconnect between the creators and the creations, so basically all the meta-aware characters (ink, error, killer, etc.) cannot hear the voices of the creators or feel their presence anymore. the state of the multiverse is literally a big allegory for an abandoned work. so, my idea right now is to have ink represent the urge to continue creating, going back again and again to the wip to try to finish it. and error represent the urge to delete it all, to scorch the work off the face of the earth. their ideals are just what the creator(s) is thinking all the time, basically.
