A seemingly mundane topic but this is how corporations eat away at our livelihood…One product at a time.

I need y’all to understand that every time that somebody who makes $10,000 a year thinks that somebody who makes $30,000 a year thinks that somebody who makes $50,000 a year thinks that somebody who makes $100,000 a year thinks that YES EVEN somebody who makes $150,000 a year is the real enemy
…a billionaire wins and we all lose.
And every time that somebody who makes $150,000 a year thinks that they’re better than somebody else who makes $100,000 a year thinks that they’re better than somebody else who makes $50,000 a year thinks that they’re better than somebody else who makes $30,000 a year thinks that they’re better than somebody else who makes $10,000 a year
…a billionaire wins and we all lose.
Privilege and comfort rises with income, obvi. It’s not all “the same.” But please zoom the fuck out and look at the whole picture. The WHOLE picture.

Imagine calling a working class person a bootlicker, Jesus. More likely a simple failure of empathy that can be corrected if approached with compassion. Example:
Train drivers in my country have been striking for better pay. I'm anarcho-socialist so I'm generally in support of striking workers. Then I heard that the existing salary is over £60K. I'm like, what the hell??? That's a very good wage here, so I'm like, that sounds fuckin greedy ngl. THEN, my friend tells me that when trains hit people, the drivers are responsible for cleaning up the mess so the train can continue on its way. Imagine that- you get a sweet chill job driving the choo-choo, and then one day someone throws themselves in front of your train and you have to hose their brains off the window so you can get everybody to the next stop. That's wild. Apparently every train driver hits someone eventually, and because of this there's actually a huge suicide problem amongst train drivers because they are all fucking traumatised. Now I understand, like yeah £60k is not enough to take that on.
So yeah, this guy probably doesn't understand the context of dock workers' pay dispute. This doesn't make him a fucking bootlicker, he's just a working class dude who would probably give his left nut to make $40 an hour. Calling him a bootlicker makes you look like a soft handed trust fund agitator. Offer solidarity to the working class or offer your fuckin respectful silence, please.
Tumblr media
that’s a long way of saying “I’m a bootlicker who is being exploited”

Riots erupted last night in the working-class neighborhood of Harehills in the city of Leeds, UK. The local community attacked police, destroyed their cars and set fires in the area.
The incident began after police confiscated five Roma children from their family over alleged safety concerns. One of the children was admitted to a hospital with an injury.
The parents say that the injury was not due to mistreatment, and the rest of the local community quickly rallied against the authorities.
Harehills is one of the poorest areas of the country, hit hard by more than a decade of austerity measures. Roma communities have emphasized that their children are more likely than others to be separated by social services due to the discrimination they face.
Far-right accounts in the US and Europe immediately pounced on the situation, claiming that “Muslims” and “immigrants” were behind the clashes, and thereby whipping up racism.

"Women only started working very recently so a woman's place is the house-" shut up and feast your eyes at old photos of women from around the world doing physical labor only for them to return home and solely care for 5-10 children and the elderly parents of their husband.
Greek women represent:

These photos show Greek women doing the type of physical labor they would perform more often than not. At the luckiest working conditions for rural women (aka most of the country) they would start working the fields as children and when they got older they would work the same fields with their own babies on their backs.
On the way home from the fields, sometimes the women would carry the wood and the mule would carry the man so he could rest.
Of course, we can talk about the manual labor that is rubbing cloth and metal for hours on end, chopping and carrying wood to light a fire for a large cauldron your size, and stirring it for hours.
But we can also talk about how it wasn't for them to break and carry rocks in baskets for the making of new roads. They would gather salt, olives, and grapes and carry them on large baskets filled to the brim. For salt they carried thirty kilos each trip, doing fifty trips each, stepping shoeless on the grains of salt.
Carrying water was also their job, often moving large barrels with all the water a house of 10 needed upon hills that horses and mules had trouble ascending.

(more photos for salt mining and carrying here)
It's no hyperbole to say these women carried their incomes and households on their backs. "The good she-housekeeper is a slave and a lady" the old Greek saying goes. A "good woman" was a woman who could be strong and work at home and in the field, often described with the qualities of a mule. Men took their wives out in the fields so much that some who were a bit more educated had to make their husbands sign that they wouldn't ask them to work alongside them in the fields! (source in Greek)
Some of these photos are also from 1970. I'm missing a photo from Leukada showing women carrying baskets of the stones they broke, and I'll add it here when I find it.
Basically, women were out of the house forever. A woman who got to stay home and never perform any labor had some type of privilege (wealth, status etc). Same as the many privileged men around the world who didn't perform any labor at all.

October 2, 2024 - Over 1,000 Samsung workers in Chennai, India, have been on strike for four weeks, making it India’s biggest strike in recent years. The protests have disrupted production at the factory, which employs 1800 people and contributed a fifth of Samsung’s $12 billion revenue in India last year.
The striking workers are demanding recognition of their union, CITU, and a wage increase. The average salary for the Samsung workers is currently about $300 a month. [video]
