Lowkey kinda controversial edition bc it's the Falling for Ya where the couples get swapped. (If you want a Huntlow "version" I drew one here and the first post abt the AU is pinned!!)

I mentioned this in the first post but I'll mention it again: *AMITY IS A LESBIAN!!* Most of the AU would follow the actual Teen Beach Movie bc besides the Falling for u scene Mack and Tanner hardly do anything that would classify as romantic,,

nolan and mark are so BAFFLING to me…like nolan keeps making all the Wrong decisions and hurting mark but there’s some sort of deniability to his actions because sometimes he literally just Doesn’t know better. mark probably thinks about it all the time: that his dad’s ignorance doesn’t excuse all the pain he’s caused but if his dad knew better, would he done anything differently??? would he love mark in a way that doesn’t hurt??? could their family have survived??? GRAHHHHHHHH

IT DRIVES ME CRAZYYY im not gonna lie to you i'm ab 5000 words deep writing a fanfic exploring this exact topic bc like. it hurts so bad bc you realize nolan is truly doing the best he can with the upbringing he's had. but his best is never good enough and mark just sort of has to come to terms with that and love his dad as much as he's safely able to (and even that's WRONG bc mark will never be able to detach himself enough to 'safely' love his dad). they make me want to start clawing at the walls

nolan can't be the perfect repentant rock of a father that mark needs AND he can't be the evil alien dictator that mark can defeat. nothing's ever easy and there's so much hurt everywhere all the time

and the fact that this sort of back-and-forth is never truly resolved, that nolan is always in the cycle of breaking and rebuilding trust with mark up until the very end is so...
