Doctor Beverly Crusher @SpaceDocMom You should no more have to ask your health care workers to mask up than you should have to ask them to wash their hands. These things should be automatic and are not a patient's burden to ensure. emojis: black heart, blue heart, masked 12:59 PM · May 30, 2023

Getting personal but there’s a grief in having so little energy and not being able to create like you used to.
I can’t loom knit because holding the hook hurts my hands.
There are so many days when I don’t have the energy to sit up and draw or write.
I watch people create amazing things and I admire them but I also ache to be one of them.
I have so many stories. So many ideas. But they’re locked up behind a glass wall.
And it hurts. It hurts worse than normal creative block does. Because it’s not just my mind it’s my body.
I think about the comic about the witch where it’s a metaphor for the artist recovering from a TBI. I’ve empathized with it so much. Even more now after getting sick and my health going down hill.
So… I don’t know. Wear your masks. Do your best to social distance. Especially if you’re sick.

SciShow new video: Does Covid Cause Cancer?
Short answer: probably.
Long answer with tons of very current info and addressing the semantic issues with the question: see video link below.
It hasn't gone away and other very recent studies have shown that subsequent infections do indeed increase risk factors for other diseases including long covid and susceptibility to further covid infections. There is no current vaccine for covid that reduces spread, just impact, and even then new variants evade some vaccines. So it's worth getting the vaccine and being as boosted as possible, but you're still getting it, spreading it, and possibly suffering the long-term effects of it even while vaccinated.
So mask up, outdoors and indoors, anywhere where there's other people around. A crowded beer garden or concert is not safe. It lingers in the air for about two hours, so if you go into an empty restaurant you might still be sitting in the previous diner's breath cloud. Lifting your mask for photos, drinking, eating, etc. allows the air around you into the mask, and the places where people lift their mask "for just a second" are where everyone does that and more likely to have more covid in the air.
Masks are variant proof. A well-fitting N95/KN95/FFP2 or higher at all times around other people is how you protect yourself and others.
Not masking = not intersectional. And quite possibly increasing your risk factors for a pile of cancers over the next couple of decades.
Spread the word, not the germ.

[ ID: tweet by Mikel Jollett: "Maybe it's just me but if you're mad the government suggested you wear a mask to prevent the spread of a deadly disease but are fine with government telling women they have to take a pregnancy test just to travel between states, 'government overreach' isn't really your problem." /ID ]

Conservatives love oppression and overreach when it serves their patriarchal white power.

My darlings, my loves, my fellow weirdos, I am begging you all to REST after you have covid.
Tumblr media
I know it is very hard, and our society asks you to get back up and running at full speed as soon as possible, before you’re even done testing positive even.
But please my friends, please rest.
Tumblr media
If you push too hard too fast you might be sicker for longer, you might be doing long lasting damage to yourself.
Tumblr media
So please my beautiful nerds, take care of yourselves and REST.

current tweet (https://twitter.com/SpaceDocMom/status/1758854832109044054): Doctor Beverly Crusher @SpaceDocMom Dear people of 2024: this still hasn't changed. People are still dying and being disabled by your ongoing pandemic. Vaccines are great but filtering masks are variant-proof. Please do more to stop this before things get so much more worse than you're prepared for.

Stop pretending it is. Reach out to those in danger. Make sure you're not only doing all you can to keep them safe, but also tell them what you're doing, fully/honestly, so they can evaluate if you're safe to be around. emojis: black heart, blue heart, masked 3:22 PM · Feb 17, 2023

This is what LC brain fog is like.
Last week I went to make my kid's lunch like I do every evening so my partner doesn't have to do it in the morning. She has a sandwich, carrots, and fruit in her lunch every day. Sandwiches vary between cheese, salami, one of those with lettuce, or any combination of all of those.
I have it down to a regular pattern so this is low-spoon-effort for me. I take two slices of bread, put the margarine on, put the toppings on, cut into four quarters, put in the plastic tub, put carrots alongside, seal it up, wash the fruit, get half a paper towel (so she can wipe her face before putting her mask back on, she eats in an isolated location), fill the water bottle, put it all in the bag.
But last week I put the things out on the counter like I always do and then I just got...stuck. I couldn't progress. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't progress. It wasn't an executive function thing. There was something missing, like the next rung on the ladder was just not there, and I couldn't figure out what it was.
Look at the first photo and see how fast you can guess what was missing.
The missing element is included in the second photo.
That's right...I got completely hung up for an excruciating amount of time on my inability to make a sandwich because I'd forgotten to pull out the loaf of bread.
It wasn't just forgetting the bread. It was a complete inability in that moment to recognise that the bread was missing and that this was the problem.
I could not solve this problem until I walked away and sat down for a moment.
This is LC. Mask up. You don't want this, and new studies out in the last few weeks show repeated infections do actually stack for LC risk calculations.
Advice is instablock. This is venting about how this sucks and a warning to others, not requesting advice or "what works for you".

Pretty much every country: Stopped tracking Covid infections, hospitalizations and deaths.
99% of doctors: Claim Long Covid doesn’t exist. Tell patients they’re lazy, not disabled. Refuse to admit illnesses and deaths are due to damage done by Covid.
The 99% of the population who have their heads up their asses about Covid: If Covid is so dangerous why are hospitalizations down? Why aren’t people dying of it any more?

Fun fact, I've been sick with the big bad Covid for the past week. It sucks like hell, but this past week I was on medications that made it better. Today I run out of those, though. Soooooo I'm gonna be getting a lot more miserable.
Wish me luck, y'all. This cough is brutal, and I'm not looking forward to it getting worse.

Wearing a mask is probably the easiest and most accessible way to materially make others lives better. It is an act of love. It is an act that cares for your community. And it is something everyone can do.

Wear your masks. Many children can't, and they deserve to be protected from preventable diseases
PSA: PLEASE MASK AGAIN.
If you stopped masking, it’s time to start again, today. I’m not asking you to stay home, just to mask as well as possible, and do hand hygiene.
In multiple communities all over the USA and Canada, every pediatric hospital bed is full, mostly with babies and toddlers who have severe respiratory infections. It seems to be a combination of flu, RSV and COVID, sometimes more than one at a time in the same child.
We can sort out why this happened later. Right now, there’s an emergency that should be front page news, and isn’t, and the best way to stop it is to reduce the circulation of all respiratory viruses in our communities by masking everyone who can mask, before babies start dying because there isn’t enough care to go around.
Get your current flu shot and bivalent COVID booster if you haven’t already, but also please mask now.
Please do it for the babies! Nov 15, 2022.
