Also makes her a better mentor for America Chavez than Strange, but....
So I said agatha was not a villain, just scared and broken. Someone had the audacity to say "pretty sure she's a serial killer but okay".
FIRST, SHE ONLY STARTED KILLING PEOPLE BECAUSE HER MOTHER WAS THE LITERAL DEVIL AND TREATED HER AS IF SHE SHOULDVE DIED AT BIRTH.
It was NEVER EVER her fault that she was the type of witch she is. The worst part of it is that i am 100% certain that if her coven had taught her and nurtured her power, she would have been good. All she wanted was to be taught how to control her power; to learn how to use it for good. No one gave Agatha that chance. She spent her entire life thinking she was what everyone else thought she was; evil. Of COURSE she ended up having villainous traits and doing insane things, it's all anyone ever expected!
Bottom line, YOU HATERS DO NOT GET AGATHA HARKNESS LIKE I DO. SHE IS NOT A VILLAIN, SHE IS STILL THE GIRL TIED TO A FLAG POST BEGGING HER COVEN TO TEACH HER HOW TO CONTROL SOMETHING THAT WAS NEVER HER FAULT TO BEGIN WITH.
She never wanted to kill, or take another witch's power, but it's the only choice she was given if she wanted to survive.
#musings#agatha all along#agatha spoilers#agatha harkness#wanda maximoff#scarlet witch#billy maximoff#billy kaplan#america chavez#i disagree with a couple bits of this#i agree that agatha's power does not make her evil#i agree that if she'd been taught how to control it that would have set her down a wildly different path#if all of the deaths she caused are a result of that power etc.#but agatha as a person still made - and makes - choices#those choices are highly influenced by her upbringing sure#but the thing is we don't know enough specifics of agatha's centuries to make that call one way or the other#we KNOW that agatha TRIED to bait the other witches into blasting her to take their power#this WOULD have killed them#yes it's a survival instinct in that case because she wants to not be killed by the salem seven#but it still says something that agatha's instinct there is to kill the other witches by draining them of their power#than anything else#and yes it might say something about how other people treat her#but agatha still makes choices#do i think she's the most evil etc.? no#but some of her choices ARE dubious#WHICH AGAIN IS A NUANCED THING#AND WE LOVE NUANCE IN OUR CHARACTERS#i think it was kathryn (or jac) who called agatha in wandavision a self-fulling prophecy#aka being told she was evil so often led her to believing she was evil and thus acting evil#but the point is that agatha /still chose/ to act evil in that case

delivering controversial takes to the "the gang plays minecraft" discussion
#soda offers you a can#sage edited in post bc this thing doesn't have her for some reason?#addressing some hotter opinions ->#sonic does not speedrun. he would not enjoy the tedious task of resetting worlds to have a chance at performing the same actions over again#he does play but does not take it very seriously and dies a lot. he's there if he's wanted present and that's as much as he'll do#he doesn't dislike the game it's just not that interesting to him#shadow doesn't really get the appeal. that's all.#same with sonic in that he'll do it if the right people ask him to but he'll have less fun than sonic bc sonic knows how to play#general enjoyer tier has nuance within it. amy would go really hard on some aspects but doesn't get to the niche things#like redstone machinery and mob farms etc#silver likes the escapism of building little houses. sometimes he starts a world and lives through minecraft unfiction though#which kills the vibe and he won't touch the game for extended periods of time#elise and cream are the most casual in that the game's fun and they get into it but it's just cozy to them#maria would play minecraft if she was around for it and not dead. she'd be so normal about minecraft she'd be so normal about the end poem#minecraft could fix her but alas she's fucking dead#does not play minecraft crowd has feelings ranging from hatred of the game to it not being their thing#i'll leave it up to the observer to decide where each opinion lies#with the addition of some being physically unable to play minecraft. but you know

i feel like im not making any sense but does anyone else feel like there are stories that let u run with them and ones that spell everything out for you
#im reading that post that says artists are directors of audience reaction and not its dictator:#'you cannot guarantee that everyone viewing your work will react as you are trying t make them react. a good artist knows that this is what#allows work to breath. by definition you cannot have art where the viewer brings nothing to the table ... this is why you have to let go of#the urge to plainly state in text exactly how you think the work should be interpreted ... its better to be misinterpreted sometimes than#to talk down to your audience. you wont even gain any control that way; people will still develop their opinions no matter what you do#im thinking abt this again cuz i was thinking maybe the thing that lets adventure time work so well the way it does is cuz it doesnt#take itself too seriously that it gives the audience enough room to fuck with subtext and then fuck with them back yknow. i think it was#mentioned somewhere that they werent even planning to run with the postapocalyptic elements that are hinted in the show but changed their#mind after the one off with the frozen businessmen and dominoed into marcy and simons backstory. on the other side there are stories that#explain too much to let the story speak for itself and i think it ends up having to do more with the crew trying to lead ppl in a certain#direction than expand on what they have and i see a lot of this with miraculous. like when interviews and tweets are used as word of god in#arguments and it becomes a little stifling to play around with it knowing the creator can just interject. u can say its the crews effort to#engage with its audience but it feels more like micromanaging. and none of this is to say there ISNT room for stories that spell things out#theyre just suited for different things. if sesame street tried abstract approaches to themes and nuance itd be counterproductive#a lot of things fly over my head so i need help picking things apart to get it- but it doesnt have to be from the story itself. ive picked#picked up or built on my own interpretations listening to other ppl share their thoughts which creates conversation around the same thing#sometimes stories will spell things out for you without being so obvious abt it that it feels like its woven into the text. my fav example#for this might be ATLA using younger characters as its main cast but instead of feeling like its dumbed down for kids to understand why war#is bad its framed from a childs point of view so younger audiences can pick up on it by relating to the characters. maybe an 8 year old#wont get how geopolitics works but at least they get 'hey the world is a little more complicated than everyone vs. fire nation'. same for#steven universe bc its like theyre trying to describe and put feelings into words that kids might not have so they have smth to start with#especially with the metaphors around relationships bc even if it looks unfamiliar as a kid now maybe the hope is for it to be smth you can#look back to. thats why it feels like these shows grew up with me.. instead of saving difficult topics for 'when im ready for it'#as if its preparing me for high school it gave me smth to turn in my hands and revisit again and again as i grow. stories that never#treated u as dumb all along. just someone who could learn and come back to it as many times as u need to. i loved SU for the longest time#but i felt guilty for enjoying it hearing the way ppl bash it. bc i was a kid and thought other ppl understood it better than me and made#feel bad for leaning into the message of paying forward kindness and not questioning why steven didnt punish the diamonds or hold them#accountable. but im rewatching it now and going oh. i still love this show and what it was trying to teach me#yapping#diary

Broke (2016): BBC Sherlock is a phenomenal piece of media and anything that seems like a flaw just hasn't been fully explored yet
Woke (2020): BBC Sherlock is an incredibly flawed series run by an egotistical writer, it never deserved the hype and is actively bad on so many fronts (especially representation)
Bespoke (2024): BBC Sherlock is flawed and bogged down by increasingly poor writing, which many fans refused to see while it was airing, leading to hugely misplaced expectations (particularly for the final series), AND it has the seeds of some compelling characterizations and portrayals, some genuinely solid performances, and touches--albeit imperfectly--on complexities that are still being discussed today (particularly as it relates to the relationship between Sherlock and John). The huge cultural impact of the show has created a massive pendulum effect in its public perception, leading to most people today remembering a caricature of the show (whether positive or negative) rather than appreciating its nuanced merits and failings...that being said Season 4 sucked
#these just sum up my personal takes at the years in question and also what i'm seeing on tumblr/other social media#bbc sherlock#sherlock holmes#and i actually have a lot more thoughts to share on this series#specifically relating to the cultural impact#there is SO much about the show that goes unappreciated in hindsight because of how public perception of it has soured#and i totally fell into this as well--i still regularly rewatch hbomberguy's video absolutely dismantling the series and he isn't wrong!!#but what i'm saying is that i think it's easy for us to look at a piece of media (especially one so massively popular) like sherlock...#with very black-and-white lenses. it wouldn't have become so popular if there wasn't something inherent in it that resonated with people#and that's being buried (and i totally forgot it) because 'sherlock is cringe and problematic. can't believe i liked that'#which again it IS full of issues and those are well-documented as they should be. future portrayals should not repeat those mistakes#BUT being able to impact so many people is a merit in itself. and that's only possible because of other genuinely good things about the show#yes the way they handled the relationship between john and sherlock was riddled with problems YES it was often queerbaiting#AND the way they portrayed that relationship had a deep effect on me. i saw a lot of myself in sherlock and the complex way he loved john#the nuanced feelings he had about john's marriage to mary. the part (in s4!) where john calls him inhuman for not feeling romantic love#there was genuine intention and care put into some parts of this show and it comes through in scenes like those. they impact people.#and because of this realization i'm going to (eventually) do a rewatch of the show. i'm much older and i want to see how i'll view it now#but i want to go into it--and i want everyone who engages with it still--to have an open mind and evaluate it for what it is#not what we expected it to be (secret episode anyone?) or what the cultural drift has turned it into (the tiktok of sherlock's mind palace)#but the messy problematic somewhat-heartfelt massively significant and ultimately meaningful piece of media it actually was#anyway that's my thoughts would love to hear y'all's perspectives#funny how after all this time making a sherlock post still feels like i'm poking a bees' nest lol please be kind!#kay can i just catch my breath for a second#kay has a party in the tags

i think dinostar is such an interesting ship right now even if i've kind of turned away from it after this season. the problem is that it's complicated, and fandoms historically don't like nuanced situations or takes. i don't think it's fair to say darius is putting brooklynn on a pedestal, since from his perspective, she hasn't done anything wrong, and kenji has been framed as this unfair partner to her. it does feel like his feelings are very immature and more of an infatuation right now ("if he loved you half as much.."/"unless?"), especially when you compare them to kenji's own feelings for brooklynn - his girlfriend who he's loved for 6 years - but that isn't a horrible thing, it's just different. i do completely understand if people dislike the ship right now, and even criticize darius' way of handling the accidental confession, but i just think people have been way too harsh on all three of them without being willing to see that all of their perspectives are different
#like darius' whole thing this season was his tendency to say or do the wrong thing and make things awkward by complete accident#he's a very awkward person as it is and considering he's also never dealt with romantic feelings before and he didn't even mean to tell her#about them it makes sense that he once again said and did the wrong things while trying to fix it#i'm not going to judge his characterization just yet until we see how he handles his own feelings vs kenji's next season after finding out#she's alive#he was still respectful of her and i doubt after learning more of kenji's side and realizing this man genuinely does still love and miss he#that he would prioritize pursuing her romantically(especially since she already yk.. rejected him and also literally just left them all)#if anything i think the finale putting his feelings about her survival to the side and focusing on how it hurt kenji to see her alive and#leave him kind of indicates that brooklynn's not really going to be much of a love interest for darius after this#which imo as a dinostar enjoyer and professional darius lover i'm actually okay with#slightly off topic but season 2 has made me really appreciate kenlynn on its own because of how tragic and nuanced it is#so i think focusing on them instead is not only a better decision in terms of consistency and storytelling but it's just the more realistic#and satisfying choice right now#and that's not to say i think they'll be perfectly fine or even together again once they're reunited properly#in fact i very much hope she ends up alone and they all get closure from this#and there's always the possibility that later on the show might actually revisit dinostar again#which would be better than them trying to do so now in my opinion#idk this is probably a mess but i've been trying to think about how i felt about this love triangle for awhile and since s2 handled it#completely differently than i thought they would. i feel like it's not going to be that simple#and i just wish fans of all sides would kind of chill out on the characters lmao#jwct#chaos theory#jwct s2 spoilers#brooklynn jwct#jwct season 2 spoilers#dinostar#kenlynn#kenji kon#darius bowman#jurassic world

Does Janeys know that Brakul has a wife and son? How would he react if he learned?
He actually does know and has known pretty much from the beginning.
Early on in his stint as a POW turned mercenary, Brakul would repeatedly invoke his wife and son as reasons he could or could not do certain things + to insult Janeys like 'okay but some of us have actual, tangible responsibilities in this world and people who depend on them. Like my wife and son, who I will be returning to immediately when my contract is over. You're never going to see me again. On account of my wife and son.'
When he started actually Liking Janeys and wanting to be with him, and seeing a chance to Avoid All Consequences And Never Go Back Home, he gradually reversed course (and attempted to rationalize it to himself) like "Ahhh they'll be fine. I mean everyone probably thinks I'm dead and/or an oathbreaker anyway so Sirudan's gotta be remarried by now. My brother probably got in on that, and he really has his shit together so they're in good hands. Honestly it will be worse for them if I go back. They're better off without me. They're fine. It's not a big deal. I'm soooooo single and unattached btw" And Janeys was like "Okay. Yay."
13 years down the line Janeys almost never thinks about it and when he occasionally remembers it's like
He does not give a shitttt about the wife/child abandonment angle whatsoever, but he's aware that Brakul still has some attachment to them and regrets over skipping out, and he's kind of insecure about it. The concept of Brakul having a child out there completely independent of their whole Thing also makes him uncomfortable in ways he can't really put his finger on. He's not actually scared that Brakul will return to his ex-wife though, like even with all his profound insecurities and abandonment issues he knows there's not a chance in hell that he's gonna actually attempt to make amends. Bottom line is he doesn't like to think about it, and mostly doesn't have to.
#Hibrides found out about his Abandoned Wife And Child while she was first pregnant and after their relationship had begun to sour#and Will Not let him forget it#She doesn't honestly give a shit about them either it's not really out of concern for the people he left behind but#more a way of Very directly confronting his avoidant tendencies (and also just an easy way to emotionally wound him)#Like she sees him as someone who will do everything in his power to avoid discomfort and the consequences of his choices and#then has the audacity to whine and mope about how guilty he feels. And then will make excuses if confronted.#And Janeys coddles and enables him like 90% of the time so he just keeps doing it. Which is absolutely infuriating to her.#(Her perception is pretty spot on btw it's just Occasionally applied unfairly to situations where he was actually a victim)#So being like 'hey how about the wife and child you abandoned huh. You gonna do that again when things get uncomfy?' gets#through to him. And making him actually acknowledge it or at least feel really fucking bad about it is like. emotionally satisfying#I want to be clear that she has the least control of her circumstances of the three and the vast majority of my authorial#sympathies but I just didn't want to write her as an absolute righteous perfect perma-victim.#So when I describe her doing stuff out of vindictiveness or occasional straight up cruelty it's not like 'she is a bitch' I just want#her to be like. a full human being who shouldn't have to be 100% innocent and devoid of malice in her circumstances to be#sympathetic.#Which I think Should be clear but the whole situation is one that like. In a fandom context would ABSOLUTELY get warped into#her being an Unsympathetic Mean Bitch while her associated gayboys get to be Sympathetic And Nuanced

fully expect to get backlash for this but also
It’s my blog and I get to choose the opinions
As a dwarf pc enjoyer, I’m kind of obsessed with the reveals about how it was the evanuris all along who killed the titans—and for such a HEINOUS reason. I know people have ~feelings~ about DA elves and the lore being revealed in Veilguard, but like…
That’s kind of how history works? Sometimes you learn that a people you respected were actually INCREDIBLY shit awful chucklefucks. It doesn’t erase the way elves have been treated in the series thus far (re: the absolute worst) and I think the convo between an elf Rook and Harding is really intriguing.
Idk I just think they tied up loose ends in a really interesting way, and if the lore doesn’t work for you that’s valid! That’s why we have fanfiction and such!
(P.S. if you’re like me and genuinely enjoying the game and our new blorbos pls talk to me about it I need more ppl to be happy with)
#like…are ppl really THAT mad that the uwu elves they latched onto did such horrendous things?#the truth is revealed as one of Solas’s REGRETS. he’s not proud of this!!!#it makes him and the ancient elves so much more nuanced and interesting!!!#MYTHAL GROOMED HIM HARDCORE IM AAAAAAAAA#but again it doesn’t justify how incredibly awful the elves have been treated since the veil#and like solas sees that and probs ENTIRELY blames himself for it#which is so!!! intriguing!!!!#idk this game is bringing me joy and the reactions to it are…interesting#datv#datv spoilers#veilguard#Veilguard spoilers#dragon age: the veilguard#dragon age veilgaurd spoilers

also this was the first ep where i could feel the effects of them filming during the writer's strike bc it didn't feel as polished as the others and a lot of that comes from the writers being able to be on set and make changes in the moment or the actors and directors being allowed to play w the material but bc all of those things are against the rules of a writer's strike it felt less cohesive/finished
#and these were all things i expected so i'm not super upset i just noticed it as it went on that it was a little clunky#it felt like they were trying to figure out to have lestat loom over the ep (which was important) but went w the most obvious option#which i didn't love and thought could've been explored more or done in a more nuanced way but it is what it is#also same goes for integrating the talamasca storyline. like that should've been done in a less disruptive way#but once again it is what it is. hopefully the rest of the eps can smooth out the bumps of this one#bc nothing here is unfixable or show-ruining it's just clumsier writing than i'm used to from this show#vampterview#iwtv spoilers

"It's normal for siblings to fight" Okay well it's not normal to be extremely classist and look down on your sister for being non-conforming. Or to go to the woman who ordered the death of your pet to tell her about your father's plans, when he specifically warned you against doing so, because you want to marry the boy you saw attack your sister and her friend (contributing partially to said father's death and your sister being unable to escape on the ship he chartered). Or to think of your sibling as unsatisfactory in comparison to another when you believe her to be dead. I notice that none of the "Sansa and Arya are going to reunite and instantly have no issues" crowd ever acknowledge any of this, which makes it seem like they don't actually believe what they say about their relationship being normal and easily reconciled. People wanting them to have no issues simply because they're siblings is another example of how fandom likes to flatten complex characters and relationships. They get reduced to being bickering siblings when their conflict runs deeper than that. If the author is telling you that they have "deep issues" to work out [X], I don't understand being so adamant about ignoring said issues. I also get the sense it's about ignoring the capacity for a certain character to be flawed, but that isn't going to change the fact that her "slip of the tongue" is very likely to be revealed and a source of further conflict 🤷🏾♀️
#arya stark#sansa stark#house stark#asoiaf#also if it's so normal for siblings to fight then why are you guys losing your minds over us theorizing they won't get along??#the amount of condescending /that's just how siblings act/ takes I see 🙄#sorry I guess? that we read the book and don't just delete parts of the story because we find it convenient?#it's not even like takes about them being enemies is widespread the most I see is that they aren't instantly bffs when they reunite 😭#some people theorize they'll never be close but guess what? that's a completely fair and valid assumption based on their relationship!#personally I think they'll have a sweet reunion before the issues they have inevitably surface again because while they've been through#a lot they haven't fundamentally changed as people or the values they hold#and I think that's going to be very interesting to read about!#I can't figure out why people always take the most boring bland route for how things will play out#mostly because people seem to be unable to swallow the concept that Sansa is a flawed character who isn't perfectly sweet all the time#and the fact that their conflict is instigated by Sansa's classism#which is funny cause in the grand scheme of things her being mean to Arya is such a mild thing that opens the door to a ton of growth#never seen anybody but stansas equating her being a bully to her sister to her being evil/a villain#all we do is point out that it exists in the story...people in this fandom have no concept of nuance I stg 😭#anyways they're both complex characters and their conflict is interesting and I hope we get to see how it plays out#cause it's definitely going to be better then that trash d&d came up with 🙏🏾

what is your favorite thing about charles and your favorite thing about erik? separately, as in what you like most about their characters :]
a devious question this one is, my friend!!! it's hard enough for me to explain my thoughts cohesively, but having to pick ONE thing i particularly love is difficult. with characters like charles and erik, theres been so much done with their characters over the decades and so they have so many components to them that make them so interesting and fun to observe. BUT I TRY FOR YOU TODAY. under the cut i kinda ramble and the size of this text box makin me anxious
i think if i were to be simple and broad, what i enjoy most about charles is his determination to help others, even if he isn't really thanked and/or if people don't even like him. ofc, this isn't to say he hasn't done wrong- to be honest, the fact he does wrong/questionable things at times is another aspect of him i really enjoy, maybe because- broadly speaking- he's meant to be altruistic (intent vs outcome and all that). i don't know if that's super exciting to most people, but it is for me
as for erik, my reason for liking him is easier to explain tbh. To Be Simple And Broad, his progression from villain to antihero over the decades has been fun to observe (as much as i have so far anyhow) and analyze. i think to be a bit more specific, him using his rage and pain as justifications for his villainous actions is definitely what compels me the most: hurt people hurt and the sort, an idea i've always found interesting (something something vicious cycles and the like). yet now, he recognizes this wasn't really. A Just Thing To Do and is beginning to change that, which i enjoy
#snap chats#may you forgive me anon i always feel awkward explaining things AVELKJEAKLJ#i feel esp awkward cause i haven't read toooo much of the comics yet- like ive read. an ok amount so far krakoa wise#can you guys tell im fighting god himself to Not write a fuckin. NOVEL#im so sorry i have an over-explaining problem my mom was mean to me growing up but anyways#i definitely want to read more and more outside krakoa. the more i read the more im fascinated by these two and their history#but to continue my prattling. as if the three paragraphs above arent enough This Is Not A Thesis RELAX#i think a. 'poignant' moment i think adds to what i like about charles too is that soliloquy where he recognizes people dont like him#yet he could always be worse- like if he's bad now to others imagine if he really just said Fuck It All#it's simple but so am i whaddyagonnadoboutit. i mean that point itself could be discussed but i'm trying to keep this brief bear with me#i so bad want to know what issue that's from tho all i know is that it's from krakoa but i neeeed the whole context#i think like. an additional bullet point to charles i also like is his loneliness#and i say this cause- I Say From My Amateur-Psychology Armchair- it's a component of why he's so earnest to help#but im keeping this point in the tags until i can confidently verify that with myself after some more reading#Unfortunately a favorite pass time of mine is psychoanalyzing characters like why else you think i major in psychology smh#im going to force myself to cap the post here because i ended up typing like 20 more tags just rambling#and as i said id like to keep this simple and clean !!!!! i have sat here for like four hours answering this ngl#ignore the fact half that time was spent getting distracted by solitaire and riffling cards ok I Am Very Easily Distracted#but fr when it comes to charles and erik- charles esp imo#i feel like i need to write a whole paper just so i can mention the nuances of the characters and like. EVERYTHING#because again six decades is A Lot of time for writing decisions to be made and for their characters to change over time#im a glazer but i wanna be a nuanced glazer yk. is that glazing at that point-- w/e anyway#its a lot. so today you will have to tolerate a very Blah answer from me which i must apologize for#down the line once ive read a comfortable amount more varying from multiple eras maybe ill revisit this question more in depth#as of right now tho .... chat i wanna get legion of x so bad i skimmed it and hhhhhhhhim gonna throw UP#i need to shake charles like a ragdoll BUT ANYWAY. bye bye for now lovelies !!!!!!!#please forgive me if i didnt answer your question efficiently ..#here i am saying i wanted to keep the tag count brief and yet !!! jesus christ. shut up My God I REACHED THE TAG LIMIT

2024 reads / storygraph
Outdrawn
f/f contemporary romance
two cartoonist who’ve been rivals since uni, and now have competing webcomics online, have to work together on the relaunch of a cult classic at the comic press they both work at
they both struggle with art-related physical and mental health issues, and complicated families
#outdrawn#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#sapphic books#I thought this was decent! I liked the concept (even if I got distracted by some art related things…)#and the dynamic between the characters was good. I enjoyed their relationship development broadly speaking#and the emphasis on communication; though it was a quick flip into being together all of a sudden.#The sketchbook doodle flirting was cute. Some interesting exploration of their complicated family situations too.#There’s a lot of exploration of burnout and carpal tunnel and the dangers of artists overworking which I think are important conversations#and are done with some nuance. But it’s pretty much all discussed in the context of the personal pressure they put on themselves#rather than the industry corporate greed and artificial competition created by the comic platform - which are significant in this story!#It felt odd that that connection wasn’t really ever made?#I know that this is a romance and nitpicking the background plot is beside the point and also that I am not a big romance reader#but the premise that the comic hosting site archives everything; wipes the leaderboard; and out of nowhere has a comic competition for#new weekly chapters…I’m sorry but the art world would riot. Even if people enter because they’re desperate for the cash they’d be pissed#People live off the income from their webcomics! if they were erased (temporarily) with no notice…..there would be crimes committed istg#I simply don’t believe that it would be doable to create a new weekly webcomic with no notice while you also have a full-time comic job#(especially as the only stylistic choices mentioned are full-colour) - not to mention what happened to their 8-years-running webcomics#that were archived? they don’t think about them at all after the beginning? surely they’d care about that?#And then with their new comics they make for this competition (after work I guess) we get vague snippets about them but barely anything#- if they’re consuming that much of your time I would expect to feel like they’re thinking about them all the time#rather than the vaguest discussion about genre and cast numbers only.#I guess I just think the whole comic site stunt felt unnecessary for the plot anyway -#it would have worked exactly the same if they were just competing on the normal leaderboard with their normal comics???#anyway - I’m not judging TOO hard about all that because again I know it’s not the point and maybe the industry is like that in some place#Unfortunately it was distracting enough to affect my feelings on the book tho lol.#Lastly: the audiobook………oof. The narrators talk at different speeds; for one.#And Sage’s VA does this deeply weird raspy-anime-teen-boy voice for Noah which is such an odd choice#and doesn’t match her character at all.#unforch my library only had the audiobook (what I usually prefer) so I just had to sort of….translate the narration into a normal voice lol#anyway the romance is good tho

Something something of COURSE in the end it's Stolas who has the power to end the conversation and whisk Blitz away rather then keeping at it when things get rough, off script, and honest.
Stolas want's a storybook romance. He's had it fermenting and stagnating in his head since he was a kid.
Stolas grew up in an environment of putting on airs and pretending to be perfect.
Stolas has no reference point for FIGHTING in a relationship except for an arranged marriage that they both openly did not want to be in, with zero real emotional stakes re: their bond with each other. (The primary stakes were playing bare minimum nice for the kid. Which they still failed at, but that's another topic.)
Of COURSE he doesn't understand that love and resentment at past wrongs (that can be exhumed and dealt with) can exist simultaneously.
How could he? He's never had an emotional investment with an equal, a peer, at all. ;-;
Blitz is intensely fucked up. They're BOTH fucked up, obviously. But this one? Dang it Stolas. ;_; If they'd just continued the conversation instead of Stolas' actively ending it and teleporting Blitz away, they might have GOT somewhere.
#helluva boss#stolitz#helluva boss full moon#helluva boss spoilers#vivziepop#I mean. its nuanced. as good writing should be. Stolas has an understandable right to end the convo#after blitz's outburst. sure.#but (assuming Stolas still WANTS to be with him which... yeah no. he does.#his reaction was a self hate thing as opposed to enough resentment at how blitz sees him to want to end shit for good.)#that's only really fair game if he's willing to reach out and TALK to Blitz again LATER once they've had a minute.#(WHICH. something he DIDN'T let Blitz have by the by.)#And they won't. obviously. because it's a story and requires conflict.#and there in lies the balance in how much we're willing to believe in Stolas and Blitz as characters. @_@#the tension between ''dear god these characters are stupid'' and ''yeah no I buy their faults and issues and why they can't just go back an#fucking talk''

okay so i don't like that i have to make this post but i feel inclined to because the l&ds fandom is growing and i would rather hold the space for this important conversation AND because i am a queer woman playing this game (and have been here since day 1. lol)
while i do understand that this game is an otome game, i genuinely do not care that people are shipping the love interests together or that people have made male mcs/ocs to fit in with the narrative. i'm uncomfortable seeing people disagree about this and the overall inclusion of queer identities with the justification that this is 'strictly otome' meaning it's 'strictly for women' and more offensively the 'they're trying to make everybody gay'/'they're trying to be so inclusive but it's not right'.
to that part of the player base, i cannot emphasize to you how many women who play this game are queer, including the crowd that is nonbinary, genderfluid, etc and femme-presenting. i don't know how else to emphasize how homophobic those statements actually are. as a matter of fact, l&ds does have the capacity to be a queer-coded space despite it being confined to the otome genre. if we're really gonna push it, i'd say obey me had already pushed that. (do y'all even know the way people ship diavolo and lucifer? LMFAO)
the conclusion i'm making is that nobody's gay pairings are harming you, and y'all are acting up like somebody was murdered or did you harm personally. you're instead being dismissive of the opportunity to make more friends and acquaintances with people who share the same amount of love for the game as you do.
if we're gonna keep it a real buck... all four LIs don't even adhere to the traditional cis-gender heterosexual man. and if a great number of the player base is queer women... it's a sensible thing to consider the fact that these men are queer themselves without any labels.
also. THESE ARE PIXELS.
i want to emphasize that this is a safe space for lgbtq+ folks, especially if you play this game! thank you :)
#yes hello i am an aroace woman who loves this game with my whole heart#maybe i'm just gonna write more qpr related things for the lads guys but oops! it MIGHT be too inclusive!#there is so much more nuance to this conversation but i've said my piece#and too many of this side of the player base have even talked about how there is MLM centric games#like it matters? ok?#its giving 'go back to your country' and you mean that with poisonous bite in your tone#atp it's projection and the fact that you see everything as your competition which is a deeply-rooted insecurity issue#again. over some pixels.#please touch some grass! i beg!#love & deepspace#love and deepspace#lads#lnds#l&ds

The fact that people were so willing to completely dismiss what happened in After Pain and Harrow after they saw It's Not My Fault and Deep Cover paint Mu and Kotoko in a worse light really shows that some people don't have literary comprehension 😭
#it's almost as if nuance is a thing and that their pain isn't mutually exclusive from their actions lmao#the fact that some people actually thought Mu was lying about what she went through??? 😭 no tf she didn't the whole point#is that she is both a perpetrator and a victim and her inno verdict in t1 validated her thinking#which is why in t2 she doesn't shy away from not acting completely innocent because she fully believes she didn't do anything wrong#that's why I also didn't understand why people were so quick to dismiss Kotoko's vigilantism and say it was a complete lie#because Harrow shows us that it never really was a lie but rather something that became more and more distorted over time#as well as something Kotoko uses to validate herself because of her self hatred which again Harrow already hinted at lmao#it only got worse in Milgram but the whole point is that Kotoko's ideals which were born out of strong feelings against the evils#of the world became distorted and more selfish over time#idk people just like to reduce them to completely bad people and it annoys tf out of me#deep cover spoilers#milgram#mu kusunoki#kotoko yuzuriha#my posts

it's tough that a lot of little but important things to dungeon meshi characterisations are all over the place and not the most easily accessible
#the biggest example is the touden parents. if u rely entirely on laios' version of events#u get characters that fit easily as villains or antagonists in ur story#and then u can easily fit ideas like greediness in there. but if you get falins version#(idr where this happens which just contributes to the mischaracterisation thing lol)#then suddenly their behavior and intentions change entirely.#so yeah you can still make them ur antagonists if u want#but then making them do certain things simply becomes out of character#i think the dad is particularly subject to this lmao. but again i dont think this is intentional#because getting to material that actually explains his character can be so darn difficult lmao#spoilers in replies i just couldnt help myself nnbfhghhhh#to be clear theres an extra somewhere where falin explains more about the dads reasoning to send her off#like this isnt a hypothetical on like how they personally felt but theres actual information#that isnt easily available....#i guess this is only a real problem if ur writing fic LMAO the point is kui is very skilled at writing#complex and nuanced characters and relationships...
