You don't need to believe that people as a whole are good or well-intentioned to be an optimist about fixing climate change.

A lot of the time, it's enough to trust in this: people hate being screwed over. And even more than that, they hate feeling screwed over.

Climate change is actively screwing over almost every single person on this planet, whether they know it or not. We just need to keep making sure that people do know that they're getting screwed over, along with all their loved ones, and who's doing it.

Spite and righteous anger will honestly do a lot of the rest.

I really like that they made Jor-El speak Kryptonian and Clark unable to understand him. The whole "aliens speak English" thing that happens in every goddamn media has bothered me all my life. Ik sometimes Clark just gets zapped in the brain for insta-second language but that always felt like a cheap shortcut.

Jor-El had a lot on his mind when he set up that magic spaceship okay. The world was ending and he was trying to do as much as he could before time ran out so he could be there for his son. He was rushing. He likely didn't consider Kal would be raised with a whole different language and not know any Kryptonian nor have anyone to teach him.

This might be the most "well duh" statement in history, but something I'm really looking forward to in Alecto the Ninth is.... Alecto.

We've seen little glimpses of her here and there, through the Body and through Nona, and the picture I see them painting is definitely of someone who has been hurt very badly, and who is very angry about it, but there's more to it. She's more complicated than that.

She's conflicted about necromancy itself:

It's not that she hates or fears necromancy—it "feels nice", she has positive associations with it, but it also makes her sad that Palamedes is capable of doing it at all. Is that regret? Does Alecto regret having introduced necromancy into the world? Does she consider herself to share in responsibility for the consequences?

Does that have to do with why she's frightened of herself, and of who she thinks she'll become if she remembers herself? She's understandably afraid to remember what was done to her, but she's also afraid of the person she'll be once she does. She thinks that person—Alecto—is incapable of love.

And it could be that her fear is only of being a person who has suffered. That she doesn't want the pain. But this series has never been shy about complicating that narrative. No one in this story is a perfect victim. Very few characters have avoided suffering terrible and undeserved harm, and few have avoided causing it.

I want to know who Alecto is. Why Nona thinks that Alecto, who is defined by love, whose final words were "I still love you," is incapable of loving. Even more, I want to know why Alecto's later actions make that fear seem kind of.... reasonable. Why the Body—who was never anything but gentle and kind to Harrow—hurts Harrow on waking, and seems to not even understand hurt has been done.

Who else has Alecto hurt, and how does she understand it? What harm has she caused, and how is she going to face up to it? What role will Harrow and her relationship with Alecto play in that?

I have some ideas, but I don't really know. And I dunno. I'm pretty stoked to think we might find out.

Had a nice intimate moment shared between Jayce and Daniel too post-transformation. At least if there's anyone who understands a bit what it's like to go back and forth, it's Jayce! A lot more gentle than Daniel ever gets to experience, esp with another tracker, but it's nice. Jayce is showing a bit more of a vulnerable side too so think he'd eventually switch back to being casual again. Trackers hardly ever show a softer side, but by now they realize they both have it, even if they don't admit it. Also don't think Daniel cries very often at all, and certainly not in front of others so... this is all kinds of levels of vulnerable atm.

if you have internalized guilt about hoarding, using neopronouns, xenogenders, microlabels as a whole, or for just being queer:

i love you.

i love you with all my heart; whether you're in an / were raised in an unsupportive environment, whether your friends wouldn't be supportive, whether you simply feel like a faker for identifying the way you do: i love you.

you're cared about. there will be people who accept you, and love you, and care about you — not in spite of your identity — no matter how you identify. you are not dirty, you are not a faker, you are not hurting the community for identifying the way you do.

you use a select few microlabels because those describe your identity well enough? that's great! you use an umbrella label because you don't feel the need for a hyperspecific one? awesome, i do too depending on the part of my identity! you hoard tons & tons of labels because your identity is so vast and / or complicated it can't be described in one or two? i have an entire google docs hoard!

i get sappy and emotional at this topic.

because, when i first started identifying with liomogai terms, hoarding labels & npts: my friend group at the time hated it. they made fun of me behind my back, deadnamed, mispronouned & misgendered me, and refused to tell me why they were acting like this.

i realized i didn't deserve to be treated that way — no matter how much i cared about those people, or how much they claimed to care about me. and, even if i got out of those friendships, i still deal with the internalized guilt today.

the guilt that maybe i am faking. or that i'm doing something wrong — no matter how happy microlabels make me, or how comfortable i feel in my identity, or how much fun i'm having in the community. that i'm inherently wrong for being queer in the 'wrong' way.

i hoarded unapologetically for the first time in months last night. i had fun.

so, what i'm trying to say is: you're going to be okay, because you are loved & there is nothing wrong with you for identifying the way you do. being queer is amazing & beautiful & filled with such vast experiences that i'm a firm believer in there is no wrong way to be queer. i love you, and everything's going to be okay.
