Y'all have been so kind and welcoming of my half-baked concepts and unpolished doodles - it has been an uphill battle to fight my own self-judgment and just post my stuff! Anyway, here's another one - this time with more ~spicy memories~ (aka trauma).
The premise for this one: I was thinking about how Logan/Worst Wolverine probably hasn't slept next to someone in years, and how that is partially because he is likely prone to nightmares/sleep terrors and probably gets suddenly violent while still half or fully unconscious - maybe reliving past conflicts, maybe lashing out against his demons, maybe just unprocessed grief and rage coursing through his system when he's sober and has his guard down in sleep.
Here, I imagined him not only getting violent, but also screaming and crying while in this somnabulant state, half-waking in a sudden frenzy of fear and anger, and in the process flipping over on top of Wade and rapidly stabbing him multiple times, through the head and the gut.
Regenerative healing and quick reflexes notwithstanding, I think Wade would be taken aback to be awoken to that kind of sudden attack (not least because I think he sleeps better next to Logan - less jumpy and more restful with his big boy next to him y'know?). But his first thought, even with all six of Logan's claws embedded in his flesh, and horny hallucinations galloping through his skewered brain, would be to comfort Logan and try to bring him back to himself, even while his body and mind struggle to catch up to what's happening.
Continued ramblings and details under the cut lol.
I imagine Logan snapping fully awake and being utterly inconsolable, just collapsing and sobbing uncontrollably onto Wade's chest, blubbering nearly incomprehensibly (a lot of hoarse "I'm sorry"s and "Oh God oh fuck"s) while Wade heals and tries to soothe him with one hand combing through his hair and the other gently stroking up and down his back, trying to make jokes that simply don't reach Logan's grief-stricken psyche.
"It's okay, Peanut, no need to apologize, I'm good already see? That healing factor coming in clutch yet again haha. You do owe me a new mattress though, Mr. Scissorhands - you know how head wounds bleed like a fire hydrant, those pesky blood vessels amiright? Though fully half of all of my blood is a bit further south currently ifyouknowwhatimean... did I ever tell you about the weird response when I get Le Brain Stabbed? I didn't mention it in the Odyssey because, well, heat of the moment and all that, didn't want to stop for an expositional lore drop y'know? Anyway, point is, I get like, *diabolically* horny and hallucinate little cartoon characters to boot, it's pretty wacky tee bee aitch but does take the sting out of a surprise lobotomy so that's something... hey, you still with me, beautiful? Shhh sweetheart, it's okay, you're okay, just let it out, everything's hunky dory peachy keen cupcake unicorn rainbow blowjobs as far as the eye can see, darling honey kitty babycakes..."
But no matter what he says, jokes or not, Logan is just completely unreachable for a while; he just keeps crying and crying into his chest, like he's letting out 200 years of grief and confusion and loneliness and fear all in one fell swoop, his tears mixing with Wade's blood until Wade starts to worry he's getting dehydrated (ever since the time ripper Wade has made it his personal mission to Rehydrate That Old Man - the abs were undoubtedly impressive to behold but also a mark of a deeply desaturated body, and Wade keeps energy drinks and water bottles everywhere now, forcing Logan to drink every chance he gets. Sure, Logan's abs are less defined now, but Wade thinks he's practically started glowing - probably from all the nutrients and hydration, and the constant physical affirmations and calm daily routine probably helps too).
The crying isn't even really about Wade - Logan knows Wade is alive and well, but years of being petrified of hurting anyone he loves, and despite that crippling fear haunting him all his life he still failed to save anyone in his universe, and in fact, not only failed to save them but destroyed their memory by turning around and letting his feelings take over and turn him into (to him) an irredeemable monster, slaughtering anyone who crossed his path until he collapsed from exhaustion. And that haunts him even more, the innocent people he massacred in his supposedly righteous fury... he can't think straight amid the turmoil and all he can do is cling to Wade and cry and cry and cry until eventually he passes out again into a deep dreamless sleep.
It's not the last nightmare he has by any means, or the last time he wakes Wade up with his claws in a frenzied state, but Wade makes a mental note to be prepared so he can wake Logan up from his next half-awake nightmare with something pleasurable instead of painful. (Wade - in a rare moment of self-restraint - doesn't dwell on the whole "brain skewering = horny hallucinations" but he is absolutely BRICKED UP about it and the next couple of times he jerks it, all he can think about is fucking that old man silly until he can't even remember his own name much less the centuries of trauma).
(Spoiler: it works, and over time Logan's nightmares become gradually less debilitating and violent as he starts to associate them with - ahem - more positive feelings and maybe - *maybe* - forgive himself and start to imagine a life where he can be redeemed, can be treated like a good person, can be beloved and cherished and maybe even for a moment feel like he deserves it).
.... sorry this turned into a whole thing but here ya go!
#poolverine#deadpool and wolverine#idk dude I was possessed#what can I say hahahaha#these two have fully got me in a headlock something awful#not that I'm complaining per se but sheesh I can think of almost nothing else#wade wilson#wolverine#trauma#deadpool#deadpool & wolverine#deadclaws#anyway y'all I am COOKED BAKED BROILED SAUTEED#I like to imagine them healing and getting better together 🫠🥺

Monster Au? - Part 4
part one part two part three II part five Tw: mentions of vomit, disordered eating, reference to child abuse (past and current sort of), panic attacks, some body horror, some self harm- not fully intentional. --- Mama cooed at him too- soft words, gentle and careful. As if he was a time bomb, maybe he was. “I’m sorry you feel yucky, baby. We’ll fix it. We will be home as soon as we can. I’m sorry we’ve been gone, my darling boy didn’t deserve that.” Steve hiccups really soft, his throat catching the noise. She hummed softly, and Steve’s creature calmed a little more.
It craved basic contact, wanted it so desperately- wanted it from pack. Not the pack that had rejected him, it hates those in his house. All of them he loves, so much. Would die for- almost had died for. Don’t, don’t want him. Steve chews on his fingers, listening to his Mama try and soothe his terror over the phone. “You feel like doing something for me?”
“Yea’.” His voice catches in his throat, comes out chokes and rough. Steve whines softly at the sound, chewing harder on his fingers. Bites down to leave imprints, maybe bruises.
Mama’s all soft as she asks him to move the phone to their room- he nods, whining quietly at the idea of hanging up to do it. She soothes that with more practice than Steve ever thought she’d remember to have. “I want you to gather all the pillows in the house they haven’t touched, yours. The extras in our linen closet in the master bathroom- then I want you to get some soft snacks. Granola- the good kind. Even if you have to run to the store, baby. I want you to get some cheese sticks- or anything you feel like you can stomach. Then I want you to lock yourself in the bedroom until we come get you okay baby?”
Steve, swallows. Even listing down the tasks feels too big, too much. He sinks his teeth into his hands again. Blood bubbling on his lips, “Mama-“
“One thing at a time, can you go check if there’s anything in the pantry?” There’s no- not anything he wants, can eat. His hands jerk, the lines long enough for the walk. He stumbles his way into the room.
The pantry does have some of his Mama’s fancy granola, and there’s some flavorless, no added sugar yogurt in the fridge, pushed to the back. He whines at the sight, dropping the phone to peel the aluminum top off as fast as he can.
The clattering of plastic meeting tile startles him, he can still hear her talking on the line. And he almost drops the yogurt to seek out that comfort all over again. “Stephan? Stephan honey?”
He presses the phone between his shoulder And his head and scoops out the yogurt with his fingers, it’s gross, and a little slimy. If he wasn’t quite literally starving to death Steve knows he wouldn’t be doing it this way. “Hungry.”
Steve mumbles the words out around a mouthful of yogurt, and his fingers. Mama coos softly, “I know, but go slow or you’ll throw up baby.” He makes a face, he really doesn’t want to do that again.
“Don’t- I don’t wanna puke again.” She hums and tells him she knows, so he had to pace himself. Eat the yogurt, with a spoon darling, not your fingers that’s icky, she says it like that too- and he feels so small. We are creatures not animals. And then take the granola bag with him to their bedroom. Steve finishes the yogurt, painfully. Lack of food despite his best efforts have made his stomach protest even the smallest amounts of almost completely unprocessed foods.
The yogurt knots in his belly, but he’s not immediately nauseous. So it’s, it’s a win.
The master bedroom is locked, Steve had forgotten he’d locked the door to keep the pups- kids from getting into it. Least his parents get home and their bedding smells like intruders. The house does, but once he gets the key out of the false bottom drawer in the bookshelves bottom storage-
He has to count to 30 as he does it, Steve knows where it’s at. He goes from the phone as it doesn’t reach that far into the office- the phone on there is unhooked. Broken he thinks-
Steve’s back to listen to her softly talk him down from panicking again. Before he even reached 26, hands shaking and sides tugging and pulling. Pain curling over his body.
Unplugging the phone and plugging it back in requires an extra hour of calming down. Sobs that don’t taper off until Dad talks to him again. Shushes him and coos at him, Steve hiccupping into each breath.
By the time he has the bed with more blankets and pillows. Mama talked him through building half a nest, before he was in too much pain to continue the shuffling hunched over movement. It's been hours. Long enough that he’s talked through another trip to the kitchen- alone but fast. Another yogurt cup, as many bottles of water as he can carry.
Stomach painfully full, but not threatening to turn over. The door locked, his Mama talking to him softly, in a bed that smelled like his space. His blankets in the mix after a paranoid and painful trip upstairs-
The door locked.
He’s asleep by the time the sun comes up, the phone a soft dial tone in his ear after a soft- unheard goodbye baby, see you in a few hours- from both his parents.
Steve stays asleep content, and warm and safe. When the Byers brush through the house to start making late breakfast.
He misses his shared opening shift with Robin. ---
Eddie toes his boots off, watching the teens pass by him in a rush to get into the house. Stumbling over each other, shouting about something or another that Eddie’s ears aren’t picking up. The tune into the steady, soft, calm. Sound of Steve’s pulse somewhere in the house.
He tenses, because Steve was supposed to be at work, with Robin. Robin, who wanted to talk to Steve about the whole “Bonded” thing. Not that, well she’d told him that, Eddie thinks it’s incredibly dumb to drop that on someone who doesn’t understand the concept just in the middle of a work shift-
Maybe he bailed on her- but. Even then, that doesn’t, that doesn’t sound like Steve. Even with the way they’ve all started holding him at arm's length. Maybe farther. Eddie’s teeth itch.
Steve’s pulse was steady, no jumps, no panic. None of the regular heavy anxiety that plagued Steve’s heart beat regularly, soft and steady. Sleeping. Peacefully too, no high blood pressure- nothing.
Eddie moved through the house- he wasn’t hungry. Not that eating actual food would do much, not unless it was basically raw- So he passed by the kitchen and almost ran right into the chair posted up in the hall. It scraped against the floor, his knee aching for a moment at the connection. He jerked, grabbing the back of it, holding it tight in his grasp for a moment. Eddie stared down at it, it was a chair from the living room, his eyes went to the table that normally held the phone- Which, was, not there. Huh.
He took a deep breath, and fully inhaled a mouthful of distress and anxiety.
Eddie got a good hold on the scent, mind pulling away from hyper focusing on Steve’s heart beat. Could still hear it thumping softly, his brain always hardwired to find the other. Eddie sorted through the scents in the house- There was a huge scent of panic, loneliness, and depression. That wasn’t hanging over the space last night, but it was there now, thick and clotted the further Eddie moved into the back portion of the house.
Towards the rooms that stayed locked.
Covered in the living spaces by wolf, witch, dragon, gremlin- excited emotions, all the regular flares of happiness, and content.
Eddie stepped back as he passed one of the few locked doors in the house. Senses slammed full force with the smell of rejection and hurt. He bit at his tongue, his hands shaking at his sides. It was thick. Laying on heavy, dragging on his shoulders- it held a sharper note, god if the back of the house- a part they didn’t go in. Eddie desperately didn’t want to know what Steve’s bedroom smelled like.
Because all of this? Fuck it smelled like Steve.
Serves him right truly- a flare of anger bright in his belly. Going and telling Eddie to fuck off like that. But it also burned why did he smell- there was so shuffling, and Steve’s pulse jumped just slightly before settling again. The sounds of bedding being moved around.
Eddie spun on his heel and walked back to the front of the house. The scent would cling on to him- and it got several heads to jerk up and stare at him as soon as he crossed the threshold into the kitchen. Witches didn’t have a nose for scents but the rest of them did. Besides maybe Dustin.
“Eddie? You okay?” Max's voice is careful, easy in a way it’s normally not “why do you-“ he shakes his head, picking at his clothes. Rubbing the fabric between his fingers.
“Not mine, uh. Don’t know, Steve maybe? Shouldn’t be this strong for a human.” It’s not, it doesn’t make sense, it shouldn’t smell like this, shouldn’t be this thick. Steve doesn’t even smell like anything half the time, besides like blood, and sick. Erica made a noise at that, huffing slightly. But ultimately, for apparently Eddie’s sanity, she kept whatever comment she wanted to say to herself. The rest of the kids shrugged, Max looked at him for a little longer before nodding slowly to herself.
They lingered around his edges, pressing up against him for the rest of the morning. Brushing against him- at least those that could smell whatever was clinging to him.
The morning was, simple. Regular just as it normally is. Maybe that’s why they didn’t think about the phone having not gone off for Robin’s regular morning call, maybe that was why they completely missed the car pulling into the driveway. It wasn’t until the click of a car door- Eddie tensed head jerking towards the door at the sound. Hopper came out of the kitchen, a rough growl already in the air.
A car door slammed shut, Eddie stood from his spot on the couch. The hair on the back of his neck rising, his teeth itch. The kid’s scramble, hearing it now. “What the fuck-” Mike’s voice is high, and whatever else the kid had to say is cut off by the unlocked front door all but slamming into the wall- a woman who looked frighteningly similar to Steve stands on the doorway.
Her teeth are bared, she’s making a sharp noise. Clicking, inhuman noises, sharp angry noise- Hopper growls, and there’s shuffling in the kitchen as he and Joyce- the only two adults there that morning, shuffle up and into the main room.
“Stephan?” The woman pays them zero attention, ignoring Hopper’s growl of warning. Just clicks against and moves to the back of the house. Towards Steve- “Stephan baby?” She coos it out softly, Eddie tracks her movement, watching her go. Confusion coating his stomach as panic curls off of his shoulders, not here for his, just invading- She lets out a soft series of clicks, noise people don’t make. Noise that sounds warped against his ears.
There’s a soft jump in Steve’s pulse, Eddie could almost hear the other wake up. There was shuffling, and Hopper growled heavily again. The noise rattling around in his skull, a few of the kids capable of making the noise mimicked it.
Eddie shuffled, pressing himself against the wall- enough to hear Steve and the woman having a soft conversation with a door.
“Get out of my house.” Eddie jerked, finding the new figure standing in the doorway, his eyes widening. Hopper’s growl cuts a little, Harrington’s- Steve’s parents. Holy shit.
Did Steve fucking call his Dad on them?
His Mom was still knocking on the door, she was quiet, voice soft. Eddie’s nerves were fried, his teeth itched. She clicked again, a pattern to the noise almost-
Hopper was still growling. No words had been exchanged, and the kids were scrambling over themselves to move out of the intruders line of sight. Dustin had a handful of Eddie’s jacket, the boy making a nervous chittering noise. Faceless monsters were one thing? Whatever the hell Harrington was, was, was another thing.
He shifted, Mr. Harrington cut an intimidating figure, he was shorter than Hopper and slimmer. But there was something different. “Get out of my house.”
Joyce was posted at Hopper’s elbow, Eddie was beginning to realize that this was about to be a shit show. “Supernatural rights state that we have a claim on the house, it’s our space.”
Harrington tilted his head to the side, and Eddie got his first real good look at the other. And unnatural focus to his eyes, unworldly. Dangerous, wrong, wrong, wrong- Something was- was, just, warped, different. Distinctly monsterish.
And Eddie’s a fucking vampire.
“Supernatural rights, say you are trespassing.” Hopper’s growl cuts. “Supernatural rights say I can kill you.” Down the hall, a lock clicks- and a door opens, and something, something so far from human lets out a high animalistic cry of distress. High, broken, wretched- and Eddie’s whole body tenses even more.
The predator in the doorway watching them. Threatening them, lets out a low noise- it rattles against his ears. Mrs. Harrington lets out a soft series of clicks and then the door shuts. Both answer the cry of distress. One with soothing motives and another with a promise to remove the thing causing distress.
Suddenly Eddie’s out of his depth, monsters, supernatural. Rules, Eddie isn’t-
It hits him. Steve’s not human, he’s not human-
They’ve fucked up, absolutely- the whole house smells like aggression and desperation. They’ve rejected Steve- holy shit they rejected Steve. No wonder he’s so hostile- they’ve fucking rejected him. Removed him bodily from pack- coven, bound gatherings in his own god damn house.
If they’ve bonded, a pair, a bonded pair in Robin’s case, and then imprinted in Eddie’s- holy shit they’ve basically been torturing Steve for the past several months- Oh fuck.
Eddie lets out a small hiss as Dustin opens his mouth. Not now- the younger boy jolts but snaps his mouth shut.
“Out, between the harsh rejection of my child, and then pushing into their space- without knowing what you do as of right now. Is more than enough to kill you over. But Stephan adores you all- Gods knows why. So just this one, you get a free pass. Get the hell out of my house.” And it’s- a flip has been switched.
Eddie watches as Hopper steps back, ducks his head, averts his eyes. Eddie does the same, tugs the kids out of the line of sight, grabs the back of Nancy’s shirt, hisses at Mike’s opening mouth. This is not something trivial. This isn’t a bitch their way out of. This is politics, this isn’t a pissing contest, this is Harrington is something with far more power than Hopper has-
If they refuse to leave, Harrington has full rights to kill or attempt to kill Hopper- for allowing his pack in someone else’s space. For allowing them to accept and then shove Steve out of the group almost bodily. They never had permission to be here, not really. Not since Steve’s word to Eddie in the bathroom, and they don’t have permission to be here anymore either.
There’s so many rules, a minefield of them, so Eddie herds the kids out of the front door. Almost shoving Nancy through the door, he is twisting, holding his ground in the doorway, as Harrington stands, protecting the hallway to the back bedroom. Steve’s pulse is loud, frantic, inconsolable. Hopper pushes at him. Him and Joyce holding the door while Eddie scoops up his shoes.
He can’t be here, can’t stand to try and be in this space any longer. Even if he was allowed, not with Steve sobbing, loud against his eardrums between walls.
They’ve royally fucked this all up. --- :) That’s as much as I have written down right now, so, part 5 might be, arriving sometime, later. Fingers crossed I actually post something on Ao3 before I make another ficlit post, probably not. Anyway! (Is this possibly going to lead into Non-binary Steve? Maybe, let me have this okay. I will steal all my favorite characters genders at least ONCE.)
Protective but shitty parents!! They are trying, is it their best? Hell no, but they’ll get there. Remember Gray Area.
Also, don’t bash characters please. I’m not actively trying to be like EVERYONE SUCKS. because they don’t, they are just, big fuckin dumb. It happens sometimes. Miscommunication my beloved and behated. Also lots of world building, which I should totally expand on, (and explain truly) and will, depending on how out of control the plot bunny gets.
Really out here saying that I wouldn’t post more of this until I updated “An Untuned Piano Sounds less lonely” (Ao3 link) I may be a liar. But at least It’s myself I’m lying too. (mostly, 50% of the time, sometimes its to my readers because I tend to change my mind) Where THE FUCK, did all yall come from. (full apologizes if I mess up tagging people again, I’m, very bad at this whole thing- if you asked to be tagged and I didn’t tag you, it’s probably because I couldn’t get it to actually work, or because my dumbass missed you asking.) @theghostinmymachine @sadcanadianwinter @failedstarsandgoldenclouds @a-huge-nerdy-nerd @bisexualdisastersworld @intergalactic-president-awesome @vampireinthesun @estrellami-1 @raysreads @knightofthieves @sassysleeplord @gezell-igg @ledleaf @haluton @h0n3y-dw

y'all ever just sit there and go:
"damn, why do the men with long/longer hair almost always die/end up being full of red flags?"
the longer I live, the more this trend continues.
a few of our (possibly) late greats...
Eddie Munson (~1967-1986) :
Lovely man, fought the man, absolute f-ing icon (for the gays, the bis and the pans)
(IT 2017) Patrick Hockstetter (1974-1989) :
There is a list of things, I won't get into all of them, but somehow he's still a bicon.
Hunter Sylvester (???-???) :
Rage issues, unprocessed emotions, kinda not equal rights at first ngl, not a good friend. Still somehow slaying, fabulous hair; got a redemption arc. I can't tell if he's bi, gay, or an incredible ally but go for it dude. You're fabulous and I'm glad they at least TRIED to have you be better than you were at the start! Thank you for not remaining a dick!
(edit: nah, I lied y'all. he's gay. I just didn't wanna say it before testing the proverbial internet waters *cause I REALLY don't want to get into big discourse stuff* )
Loki Laufeyson (???-???) :
I don't know how to define this, he's so chaotic but not in like a purely bad way? He's a trickster god, of course he's gonna cause problems. but then oops! then haha sike I'm not dead then oops, wait I'm actually dead then oops, I'm in a timetravel super secret megacorp now! as a prisoner! oooh! (I never finished watching Loki so that might be wrong, but yeah, man's got a rollercoaster)
edit:
Ryan "Trick" Tribecky (???-???) :
not really any overt red flags other than his early exposure to mature things and his drug usage/access. and he doesn't die, he's just.. y'know, it's him (I'm watching the episode as I write this so-- I can't exactly truly fully judge him yet)
edit:
Nah he don't belong on this list, screw the main girl's mom, man.
edit:
PLEASE-- like, honey- you didn't ask to be recorded while doing it with the girl you've LIKELY had a crush on for years and now oopsie she's gone! thanks jackass helicopter mom!
It's just painful, like-- I want one long-haired dude who's fun, possibly chaotic but not a total douche and not dead/doesn't die--
please, just grant me one, my creative and powerful writing and casting gods! Just ONE!

Two Months Later
I felt stuck at the moment while I shook people’s hands and accepted their condolences. Every word spoken went in one ear and out the other unprocessed. My eyes are fixated on the person’s mouth speaking currently and all I can think about is absolutely nothing. I cannot even bring myself to look at the stage where his coffin sits.
Barely anyone is here yet and there is still half an hour till the service begins. I feel a hand on my shoulder softly gripping it “Come on honey, you should have time to say your goodbyes in private”. I turn to face my mother who has a few tears in her eyes. I know she cares about dad even though they had a very rocky relationship and didn’t speak to each other properly after the divorce. I sigh softly and try to swallow the saliva in my mouth down my dry throat “I- I don’t think I can” my voice wobbles from trying so hard not to cry.
Instead of letting it go, she grabs onto my arm and forces me towards the stage, right in front of the coffin. I blink back tears as I gaze down at my father’s face. His features look soft and at peace, dressed in his best suit; the only one he owned as he had bought it for my university graduation. I smile softly and hold back a chuckle when I see the high school football jersey, the number 6 - Bucky’s number and dad’s best player. He always joked he would be buried with that number jersey to commemorate the best year he coached high school football. “ You boys lead us to victory time and time again. James, you’re the best captain this team has ever had and you are all so close-knit that you just know what the other wants to do. It’s great you keep the other side guessing!” Dad had always been so proud of them, so much so that it was the last year he coached before buying the main bar in town.
I turn to face my mother but she has disappeared. I clutch onto the coffin feeling like I’m going to fall to my knees. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry” I whisper “I know I haven’t always been the kindest to you and we have had our differences. I love you so much”. I wipe the tears away as I hear people entering the room. I turn to face the entrance and see Nat standing there with a grim look on her face.
She speeds towards me holding herself with grace, even dressed in black and the sorrowful look she has, she looks so beautiful. “I know you aren’t in the best place right now, but uh I need you to know that we have incoming” her words fall out of her mouth fast and I feel as though I’m playing catch up. She grips my hand and intertwines our fingers together giving a soft squeeze.
My face scrunches up slightly in confusion “what do you mean incomin-” more people begin entering the room but my gaze is fixed upon Nat as she shifts between her feet before looking to the front. I move my head softly and I gasp slightly at the faces which stare back at me. All so familiar yet so different. I glance between each person in the old gang who all stand in the aisle. Bruce, Wanda, Tony, Sharon, Pepper, Vis, Thor, Sam, Steve and finally Bucky. I feel my heart beat a little faster as I glance over his face. His stubble seems to be beginning to form into a beard and seems to be growing his hair out, he is still so handsome my heart hurts. I can tell he is trying his hardest to avoid me, looking at the ground or at Steve and Sam, anywhere but me and my heart throbs. ‘Look at me please, I’ve missed you so much’.
I feel Nat’s hand squeeze softly again as Steve’s voice fills the room. “We received the funeral notice a few days ago. We came to say our goodbyes to the Coach”. I find it hard to swallow and my face scrunches again “Funeral notice?” I ask softly confused. I had only informed those in town and who were close to dad that he had passed.
“Dad told me and I told everyone else,” Tony says. Of course, Howard and dad were super close of course he would have mentioned it to Tony. I nod my head “yeah okay” I whisper softly. “I’m uh gonna go check on some stuff,” I say trying to avoid the confrontation that I know will inevitably come soon. As I turn my back on everyone I remove my hand from Nat’s and slip into the hallway in the back and disappear getting closer to the kitchen. I can just hear their voices in my head, especially Bucky’s of ‘why didn’t you say anything?’ ‘I would have been there for you’ and ‘I thought we were close enough to lean on each other when things get tough’.
As I enter the small kitchen, Clint’s head pops up over the counter “Hey sweetheart, how you holding up?” he rounds the corner on his hands and knees before standing up and embracing me. “How do you think idiot?” I mumble into his shirt as I squeeze him. “Nat texted me the heads up that everyone is here”. I look up at him, tears threatening to fall, and my throat feels like it's enclosing in on itself. Clint rubs his hand up and down my back and kisses my forehead which starts to calm me down a little. “I can’t do this Clint” I whimper softly “I can’t go out there and talk in front of everyone about him. About how he was sick and I knew and kept between the few of us that know.” I grip onto his blazer tightly.
“Yes you can, sugar, you can do it” He whispers into my ear before pressing another kiss to my forehead. “I’ll be with you every step of the way and so will Nat. You have us with you, you know that”. I lean back a little to look at his face, his features so soft, you wouldn’t think he was a detective at this moment, aware of so many dark things in the world. He holds onto me for a little while longer knowing I need it.
“Come on, the service is going to begin soon,” he says softly as he pulls away from me. I lean up and kiss his cheek softly. “Thank you” I whisper softly. “Anything for you, sugar”. After Clint was promoted to detective, he moved back home and found out about Nat and me not living the lives we had planned. One night, I had been covering a shift at the bar for dad. Clint had barged in with this confidence and strength but all I could see was the clumsy Clint from high school and university. The two of us got so drunk after everyone had left that when I woke up in his bed the next morning I was not surprised. After that night the two of us spoke about it and both decided to create a pact. Clint and I’s pact was that when we both got lonely or we were in the mood we would sleep together every now and again but we had promised not to further because he was still hurting over getting his heart broken and he knows I’m still hung up over Bucky.
As Clint and I walk into the room again and finally sit down in the front beside Nat, I let out the breath I was holding. I can feel multiple eyes on the back of my head. “I’m sorry I left you like that” I whisper to Nat as the priest begins the funeral service. Her hand slides onto my thigh and squeezes softly “it’s okay”.
I zone out until I feel Clint shake me softly, I look up from under my lashes to see Bucky and Steve walk up onto the stage. The priest must have opened it up to the public who want to speak. I roll my eyes thinking of what they would possibly say, only good things about their coach. Ugh, why am I like this, sure Dad had his flaws and really bad qualities that the boys had seen but it’s his funeral, we can’t talk about the bad things that had occurred right?
I bite my lip to stop myself from tearing up as I try to focus on a spot on the carpet and think about what the stain could be against the faded red colour instead of seeing his face and those eyes. All I want is to be wrapped in his arms and to be comforted by him but like before he had tried to ignore my presence in front of everyone and that hit the nail on the coffin. His voice seems colder, harsher and deeper than I remember as he speaks about football, it’s void of any emotion, and he doesn’t sound like the Bucky I remember at all.
I frown softly and scrunch my nose as Nat leans in and tells me it's my turn to speak. The last person to do so before he is taken to be buried. I look at her pleading with her not to make me while she looks and me with a look that just says ‘you have to do this or you’ll regret it’. I manage to make it up to the stage and sigh softly as I clutch onto the podium tightly. I feel as though if I let go I’ll be on the ground.
“Thank you all for coming to commemorate the life of my father Y/F/N Y/L/N. You have all met him through different stages of his walk of life…” as I continue I can feel tears the good and the bad resurging as I talk about my childhood with Dad. I look down at Nat and Clint and feel reassured to keep going.
I blackout for the rest of my speech, dad’s burial, the wake and when I come to I’m sitting in Dad’s bar in the dark with an empty glass in front of me.
“Gin and lemonade?” Nat asks softly from behind the bar. I nod my head as she places ice and a slice of lemon in the glass before measuring the gin and adding lemonade. As she begins to make her drink I watch her closely.
“How are you feeling that Steve is back in town?” I ask, she freezes slightly before continuing. “I’m okay”, her tone implying to drop the topic. “Really?” I ask “Because I feel like shit with Bucky here”.
She sighs heavily “I do too, I’m too scared to talk to him - they must know now right?”. I scoff softly “Since when have you ever been scared of anything? Especially that Golden Labrador?” She opens her mouth to reply but the bell rings indicating people are entering.
“We’re closed until further notice unless you’re Clint,” I say clearly annoyed as I turn in my seat to see Clint and the rest of them except Bucky standing behind him. Clint looks at us sheepishly and shrugs his shoulders as if to say he couldn’t stop them from following him here.
“You gonna turn us away during your deepest darkest hour Nugget?” Tony asks and I feel a flame ignite in me to start an argument. We were close and then everyone faded off and never kept in contact. It became annoying when I’d message everyone first and then I decided to not anymore and they never messaged back.
I hear Nat scoff “You don’t belong here,” she says, Steve’s voice is soft “You don’t mean that!”. “Oh yeah?” I say angrily “Well, if you do belong here then how come no one kept in contact? We were friends, thanks for coming to the funeral,” I say sarcasm dripping at the end of my sentence.
“Are you kidding, we all kept in contact - do you just have the chat on mute or something?” Wanda pipes up, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion. Sam mumbles “Uh Wanda, they aren’t on it…” Nat and I exchange a look of hurt between each other. We had been kept out of their lives no matter how hard we had tried, and they all remained friends.

Anti-inflammatory lifestyle update
As I said earlier on my blog, I want to follow an anti-inflammatory lifestyle. For someone like me, it's absolutely possible, and I just need some fine-tuning here and there. The true area that's going to need a lot of attention, care, and modification is my anxiety. Excess anxiety and stress cause inflammation which can manifest as eczema. My anxiety is not my fault of course. The fact that I might be on the spectrum and just found that out at the age of 29 goes to show I've never knew the root cause of my random anxiety and anger outbursts and thought there was something wrong with me.
The steps to following and living an anti-inflammatory lifestyle are as follows:
Eat an anti-inflammatory diet. Eating a diet rich in berries, leafy greens, broccoli, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, fish, unprocessed dairy, sprouted or whole grains, turmeric/black pepper, nuts, chia seeds, olive oil, avocados, dark chocolate, green tea, and foods rich in fiber will do wonders. I named a few of the anti-inflammatory foods I enjoy, but there are more. Also limiting intake of sugar, processed white bread/grains, foods cooked/fried in refined vegetable oils, too much salt, omega-6 rich foods, trans fats, and processed meats like hot dogs and bacon (I don't like meat so I'm not worried about this for myself). I do want to meet with a dietitian eventually to ask about how to add on to my anti-inflammatory diet and how to indulge/eat out wisely. Because my goal is to add and not subtract, but I obviously want to limit processed foods. I notice my skin is less inflamed when I eat the above anti-inflammatory foods. My skin is not clear now, but I noticed it clear up a bit when I started drinking green tea this week.
Supplement with anti-inflammatory nutrients that are hard to get from diet alone. These include vitamin D, omega 3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA from fish), and even zinc in some cases.
Drink enough water. I already drink around 2 L of water daily. Also getting it in the form of green tea is fine (I drink plain green tea no sugar, milk, honey).
Avoid drinking alcohol. I know wine can be anti-inflammatory, but other alcohols can be terrible and I don't drink to begin with. I'm going to avoid alcohol altogether.
Avoid smoking.
Get enough sleep each night. From my experience, I need 7-8 hours.
Exercise. I walk a lot, around 8-10k steps a day. I also started exercising this week and did a no jumping HIIT workout for around 15 minutes, combined with a 5 minute warmup and 5 minute cooldown. It was a Youtube video and I felt like the difficulty was a 5-6 out of 10. I want to do some occasional workouts like this that allow me to sweat and challenge/build my muscles. But without overdoing it or experience pain. I'll go for a duration I can tolerate (15-20 minutes) and will modify, slow down on, or skip a workout I find to challenging (anything with side planks or leg circles for example). And the goal is to do these 2-3 times a week. Once again diet is way more important than exercise. I should mainly focus on my diet, and also exercise, but it's effects are not as important as that of diet. So the goal here is to exercise, but not to make it a top priority or a big challenge. I'm here to regulate my insulin/metabolic wellness, reduce inflammation, and build muscle, not to become a super athlete or power lifter.
Maintain a healthy body weight. Being in a healthy body fat/weight range maintains good health and reduced inflammation. From my experience, intermittent fasting helps so much with this. I've been intermittent fasting since last December. For 6 months straight, I want to say that out of all those days, I think I only broke my fast 4 days. A few times to take flaxseed oil in the middle of a skin flareup at night, the first few days I started IF because I got hungry in the middle of the night, on work days where I had busy mornings and couldn't eat until ~2, and on mornings where I had blood work done. Besides that I've been sticking to it for 6 months and do not feel deprived nor hungry nor dizzy at all. Even with a busy work schedule.
Stress relief. I think we all know that stress is super inflammatory. Unfortunately I do struggle with stress and anxiety and have for a long time. It's a combination of not being taught the best coping skills growing up, childhood trauma, and possible being on the autism spectrum (I'm going to do a screening for this soon). If I am autistic, then I'm going to get as much access to resources as possible so I can get the help I need. I know anxiety and stress and rigidity, social anxiety and hypochondria are going to be a normal part of my life, but I just need any help I can get.
Gut health. I've been working with a doctor to improve my gut inflammation so my eczema improves. From my experience I did notice some improvement. But at the end of the day, an accumulation of inflammation triggers it and not just 1 of these things. Gut health is one piece of the puzzle, but it is important. I'm still on the lookout for a go to routine/supplement that can help maintain good gut health. Edit: aloe juice!
Exposure to toxins. We are all exposed to "toxins" on a daily basis, including chemicals and metals. I'll speak to my doctor about this, especially in the context of liver health.
Be around those you love and avoid those who hurt and stress you out (much easier said than done and I'll add more to this).
Take steroid shots and prednisone when needed.
For now, I'll take my vitamin D, fish oil, and multivitamin. As well as the morning aloe juice.
I modified my diet this week to include more anti-inflammatory foods and am even going to try some healthy vegetarian dishes my mom and sister make. I know some people with eczema rave about elimination diets and how cutting out gluten, dairy, eggs, nightshades, caffeine, citrus fruits, and foods high in histamine cleared their skin. I know that some people out there have benefited from elimination diets, but I personally hate these diets. I would much rather focus on adding anti-inflammatory foods and limiting my intake of inflammatory foods like sugars, processed/refined oils, trans fats, and processed white bread rather than eliminating foods that random people on the internet said were "inflammatory". These foods can be a rich source of vitamins and minerals, so I'm really hesitant to exclude them from my diet. The goal is to add a lot of anti-inflammatory food sources to my diet rather than taking foods out.
There are many diets out there, but I believe an anti-inflammatory diet would be best for me to follow. Again I'm going to meet with a dietitian to get some tips and tricks on how to work with it. I've been hearing about different diets for years, but only heard about an anti-inflammatory diet last year when I went to my women's health doctor for a pelvic exam (inflammation causes bad period cramps which I used to struggle with but they've gotten better).
I already drink a lot of water daily and sleep well. I also do not smoke nor drink at all, and I'm maintaining a healthy body weight through IF and walking.
I see exercise as a way to improve my metabolic health and build muscle. It is anti-inflammatory. But it's not very high on the priority list like diet and body-weight is. But it's great for building muscle mass and sweating, both which improve overall metabolism and insulin sensitivity. I'm going to do doable workouts that are 5-6 out of 10 challenging. No jumping, no heavy weights. 2-3 times a week for 15-20 minutes including a 5 minute warmup and 5 minute cooldown.
I am susceptible to anger and anxiety, and I'm going to do an autism screening soon and will get the help I need to navigate in life. Knowing that autism may be a possibility lifted a heavy weight off my shoulders because it explains why there is something "unconventional" in the way I behave that isn't bad nor wrong nor problematic, nor is it a sign of laziness, failure, or incompetence. I know getting the help I need will help a lot with my anxiety, and therefore, inflammation/skin flareups.
I'll add more to point 12. Thankfully the people I interact with on a daily basis do not stress me out that much. And I'm happy I have a supportive community here and that I reunited with my old friends from college. I feel less lonely and empty.
My skin is getting better, and I know that adopting anti-inflammatory habits help. I know that adding anti-inflammatory foods to my diet this week (especially the green tea) and knowing that I might be autistic (lifted a huge weight off my shoulders) made me feel much better this week and my skin was less inflamed. Exercising is a great habit too. I'm going to heal and follow this anti-inflammatory lifestyle. The most challenging part will be the anxiety management and healing, which will take a lot of time. I have a lot to heal from, especially after doing a testing/getting a diagnosis. I'll be okay. My mom and sister are here to help. I also have hypochondria, which they will help with too.
