after 9/11, I remember some kids were terrified a plane would crash into their school. I understood that al Qaida had targeted symbols of American power and it wasn't likely they would attack a random school. However, the United States became united in the face of the attacks (at 1st anyway) and al Qaida failed to demoralize the US. I thought, the most effective terror strategy would be to attack random civilian targets. Terrorize the population.
This is what russia is doing now. Deliberately attacking civilians in order to demoralize the country. It is spreading terror in a true terrorist's strategy. We have to recognize this is what russia is doing. It may be a "good" strategy but it is a horrific thing to attack and kill civilians going about their day-- in their homes, train stations, stores, restaurants. Normal people around the world should be more outraged by this.
However, this strategy hasn't worked so far. Ukraine is united against the attacker. Because to give in would only spread more terror and untold horror in the country-- and russia would be emboldened to attack others.
Because Ukrainians

If you don't see the injustice idk.. u r blind#Civilians should not be targets.#It's true that civilians were targets on 9/11 but it was the symbol that was the point#Which was a perhaps good strategy for someone with limited means#Look at al qaida now...#Sadly the terrorist groups even tho not attacking the west still active in middle east#Better not totally discount them now either#Also the terror regime in Iran... hope it falls soon!#Dictatorships are brittle and artificially stable bc they rely on repression#Their undoing is in their structure#Whioe democracies are flexible#Change is built into their system#And free people are better citizens . Here is a Ukrainian woman, Olha Kharlan, an incredible woman and multiple fencing champion, and her prototype Barbie doll. Now she is under pressure and bouts of aggression from the russians for not shaking hands with the russian athlete she defeated, for which she was disqualified.
russians caused genocide - they are allowed to compete
Ukrainian woman whose home was destroyed defeats russian 15:7 - she is disqualified because she did not shake hands with a man who supports the destruction of her people
#barbie#I am incredibly proud of this woman her strength and honor#I want as many people as possible to know how wonderful and strong Ukrainian women are#ukraine#ukrainian women#укртумбочка#sports#russia must burn#russia terrorist state

ATLA isn't that great at showing the reality of war and you are ready for this conversation.
You can call me biased for this post, but whatever. I've been silent for too long.
It's certainly better than a lot of other shows, but fans often overestimate how good it actually is. It's excellent at showing more simple things like people getting hurt and traumatized because of war, but when it gets to more complicated things it's not that good.
In the show we got two people opposing to the fire nation. TWO. (Technically more because Jet wasn't alone, but you get what I'm saying). And they're BOTH antagonists. It's great to show that anger can blind you, but couldn't they make at least one character who wasn't somehow affiliated with Gaang who was against Fire nation and was in positive light? It kinda sucks. Also it doesn't make sense that Hama could actually attack military men and she just didn't. Why? She could attack civilians AND military and it could have been much better.
Then we get an entire arc to show that fire citizens aren't that bad, they're also people and they're also victims, blah, blah, blah... And the idea isn't entirely bad, but it was shown like they're just all innocent and can't affect what's happening in their kingdom? If the show authors wanted to show something positive about Fire citizens wouldn't it be better to show that there are some opposition to Fire Lord or something? But no, we get episodes about how the citizens are prohibited to show their true selfs because they can't breakdance and we get propaganda mentioned a little. Obviously it's a kids show and demanding to show 100% how war works is dumb, obviously the writers have to tone it down a little, but it still kinda sucked. This is actually why it's my least favourite season. Like, it looked like literally no one in Fire nation was against war? The opposition wasn't mentioned even in the comics? HUNDRED YEARS war and Fire citizens didn't even try to do anything? This fire school arc just made me despise Fire nation more because it looks like they just don't give a damn. (Don't start on "they're being brainwashed by propaganda". If propaganda is enough to convince you that killing is good than you were never good in the first place).
Jet was portraied extremely weird in Ba Ding Se too. Like... Fire nation is occupying Earth nation, killing and abusing civilians. Jet sees two fire benders in the most secured city. One of them was a war general who actually had this exact city under six hundred days siege. OBVIOUSLY he would try to arrest them. Who wouldn't? Who knows what they're doing there? Why would he believe that they don't want to do anything malicious? But show portraits it like some sort of obsession. Like he was crazy and in the wrong, like "they're not hurting anybody and he's nagging them and wants them arrested for no reason". Jet was being completely logical.
At the end of the show Iroh keeps his tea shop in Ba Sing Se??? What??? The same city he had under siege? And he names it "Jasmine dragon". DRAGON. The literal symbol of Fire nation. HUNDRED YEAR war just ended, I refuse to believe that citizens were completely fine with it.
And in "Legend of Korra" we find out that Fire nation still has an army? It got much smaller, but still it was pretty powerful? After hunder year war? How? WHY?
It's also extremely weird that in LOK they explored goddamn ANARCHISM, but not how Fire nation is treated after the war? It looked like nobody even remembers it. It was mentioned like three times in the series.
Also I read the comics and the creation of Republic city was weird af. Kuvira was terrible, but she was right at one thing: Republic city belongs to Earth kingdom. There was a lot of resistance. In comics this colony was still full of Earth civilians and culture. It wasn't completely mixed. And the argument to not returning the colony to Earth kingdom was literally "we've been colonizing this territory for so long that it can't be yours anymore" wich is dumb. It becomes even dumber when you remember it wasn't the only colony like that. It was mentioned that it was ONE OF THE OLDEST colonies. Which means there were colonies where fire culture was even more integrated. Then why weren't those colonies also turned into "something completely new"? And the resistance stopping resisting was really weird. They were extremely enthusiastic and determined and then just stopped because the Avatar came and told them "protect people, not borders"???
In conclusion: "Avatar" has a lot of flaws which are caused by "love everyone" mindset, wich isn't bad at it's core, but sometimes you gotta hate. And some flaws are caused by writers' inability to understand war and what comes after. The series are amazing, and comics too, but people tend too overlook a lot of mistakes.
Thanks for reading
(no one's reading allat💀)
Also if you disagree, it's completely fine, just know that I will not argue about it. It's my opinion that I thought about for a very long time and I will not change it.

Hear me out. Arthur loved Merlin purely because he is who he is, he was so fond of him without knowing most of the reasons why he should be, but Merlins love for Arthur was always tainted by destiny, he wouldn't love him even half as much without knowledge of this invisible strings that tied him to Arthur, he did love him immensely, of course, but this love wasn't as pure and natural as Arthur's love for him
#Merlin#not merthur#Merlin bbc#merthur#i love affection so strong that you can't tell wether it's platonic or romantic#i have a short fic like that btw#or#and also i completely adore the way tagging works on tumblr and ao3#arthur pendragon#bbc merlin#oh#and and and and english is such a weird language you have so many useless words and yet only one that means and in Ukrainian we have three#separate words that mean and#for us to use according to rules so it's sound prettier#why do y'all only have one#create another please#so yeah i love how tagging works here#i just wrote a whole another post#My post

Freij
Freije Known for their fringed ears, thick dark hair, and natural resistance the frigid temperatures of the north. Freije seals take on a white or pale-blue hue, contrasting against their dark skin. Typically asymmetrical and unique to each individual, they have been widely (and fittingly) remarked as resembling snowflakes and frost, consisting of radial pattern of crystal-like markings.
Matriar The military and naval prowess of Freij is recognized across Elothia, and its Matriar reflects that. As Leader and Admiral, She dons the military vestments of the region, although ornamented and embroidered to indicated Her regal station. She also carries on Her person, just as the officers under Her, a dagger and sabre. Typically these would be highly decorated commissioned works, much like Her chokha and kalpak. However the current Matriar has forgone the tradition, preferring to don and wield the standard arms of her men. As Impero recently saw a Patris leave the throne, Freij is likely to see one on theirs in the coming centuries as the current Matriar has only one son and seemingly no interest in bearing another child.
Czars State officials and Generals to Her Majesty. Much like the Matriar, Czars are outfitted in military garb and keep a dagger and sabre on their person. While still decorated to denote them as officers of import, it is not to the level of the Matriar.
Citizens Despite the high tolerance to the northern climate that they have become known for, Freije are born incredibly susceptible to the cold. Newborns are heavily swaddled in thick furs and kept indoors for the most of their first year. Even when younglings are finally able to be brought outdoors, they do so thoroughly bundled up, almost comically, in several layers of thick clothing and furs.
It's not until adolescense that the Freije's cold tolerance truly begin to build up. They begin to strip away their heavy coats, scarves and furs, and many, many, layers as the years proceed, and by their first century the typical Freije can brush off the low temperatures with far lighter apparel. To the outsider experiencing the bite of Freij's Spring chill for the first time, they may even look underdressed.
In opposition to this are the region's wealthier merchants, barons, and city officials. Setting themselves up at higher altitudes, far above the crowded docks and fish markets, even their natural resistance isn't quite enough to keep out the colder mountain winds. As a result, upper class Draken remain relatively bundled up well after maturing - a fact that's earned the ridicule of many common folk, thinking it make them look childish.
#Chronicles of Cassendenia#Matriar Lynorre Tark Freij#Johann Tark Freij#Baerg#Guardian Drake#Freije Drake#Elothian Drake#OC#CoC ref#MSPaint Draw#Next stop the Frost draken or as they shall now be known: the Freije#I lost the loving feeling i had with the gen naval officer look because it left me hung up on how to handle the citizenry#so this time around i took insp from Cossack uniforms and Ukrainian folk costumes and now we're cooking with gas#also real shit: not to sip to deeply of mine own cool-aid but#the Freije drake maybe the sickest thing i've ever designed and possibly ever will design#if it never gets better than this fucking Unit than i'll be AbSoLutely fine with that#it's like: humpback whale+walrus+galapagos iguana and i think i love it to death#the imperian i think is the easiest to draw for me but the freije - ughhh 😩💕#i always knew it had the potential to be cool as shit and i am finally a strong enough artist to make it a reality

every time I see russian artists drawing their ukrainian oc next to their russian oc I'm literally trying not to throw up. that's disgusting
#centuries of mockery of ukrainians by russians#and it still continues#for some reason they see us as their “submissive weak brother” and that fucking makes me sick#because ukrainians always were a rebellious and strong minded nation#I'm really proud to be ukrainian#ppl may ask me “they just drew a ukrainian thats not a crime”#well it's not but in the present circumstances it's just pretty much triggering to see one of those who destroy my country draw#a character of my ethnicity#I just know that they will portray a ukrsinian as a dumb awkward shy guy. because russians always to that#and it just makes me sick#I actually don't know how to explain this and maybe only ukrainians will get me#smells.like.a.freakshow

So I followed the Russian coup for most of the time it was active, I think I have a good handle on what happened. The end feels like the last season of a television show where they've been unexpectedly cancelled and the writers decided to make an ending that makes no sense to the actors or the people watching the show.
#serious stuff in the tags#i think the most sensible takes i've seen#is that his forces were moving faster than he expected#he wasn't at all prepared for an actual battle in Moscow#he had no capacity to actually hold Moscow even if he had the capability to take it#they reached a deal that I'd call a face saving deal but I think neither man actually saved actual face#putin is weaker just by virtue of strong men who have military coups that don't end in crushing the coup don't look strong#the wagner pmc is basically dead as a functional military unit#which has probably even wider implications for Russian foreign policy in Africa than Ukraine#no one seems to think pringles war criminal will live to see a natural death#the merc's are pissed#but i bet the Russian troops and national guard soldiers who switched sides are even more pissed#ukrainians had fun with their popcorn were happy to keep up their summer offensive#with an enemy that now is likely even more distrustful of each other than before

why are americans like "oh yeah i know my country has placed nazi governments in place in many countries before simply in order to gain control over them" but once they hear about ukraine its suddenly different and usa is in the right there, and russia is the fucking asshole for trying to fight for the people who themselves have been trying to escape ukraine for years
#brain rot behaviour#also you're like oh look how many military bases usa has all over the world its evil and insane!!#but once the only country strong enough to stand against usa tries to not let it near you're all on the side of the fucking usa again#lets not pretend ukrainian government is doing anything on its own accord!!#russia#ukraine#usa
