despite the fact that in russia they celebrate the war, Ukrainians, who were forced to flee from the war, gathered at rallies around the world, together with residents of the countries that gave them shelter. the civilized world expresses sympathy and grief, with calls to provide arms to Ukraine so that we can defeat russia as soon as possible and return peace to our lives.

it's sad that more photos can't be added to show as many cities as possible that came out to support us today. but I've been looking at all the photos and videos of the rallies all day today and I have tears of gratitude in my eyes. thank you all for continuing to stand with Ukraine!

I dont think anything related to politics and current state of the world has ever enraged and disgusted me more than seeing pro-palestine/marxists/communists/leftist supporters be this extremely hypocritical and evil when it comes to Ukraine. Not only that entire breakout of russian invasion of Ukraine was followed by "what about Palestine/Syria/Afghanistan/Iraq" comments on every video/photo of a destroyed Ukrainian home but also even after more than 2 years of russian invasion and what experts call most brutal war since WW2, this same group of people is constantly minimizing and relativizing tragedy and injustice to Ukraine by lowering number of civilian casualities, holding dearly onto chunks of russian propaganda that have already been debunked countless times, taking announcements of Ukrainian officials out of context or simply excusing oppression of Ukrainians by something unrelated (like supposed support of Ukraine for Israel???). All that while screaming about "double standards" or "Western hypocrisy". Why are Ukrainians who support Israel called out more frequently and harshly than Palestinians who support Russia? What makes Palestine, Congo, Sudan, Syria etc more deserving of sympathy and support than Ukraine? Why are Azovstal defenders called nazis while Hamas is praised as freedom fighters? Why is russian oppression of Ukrainians and erasion of Ukrainian identity that lasted for centuries overlooked? I seriously dont understand psychology behind such reasoning.

Who was General Pulaski?

Born in Warsaw in 1745, Pulaski was christened Kazimierz Michał Władysław Wiktor Pułaski, a name that would be later Anglicized when he went into exile.

The son of Polish nobility, he embarked on a military career in 1762 and six years later served as one of the commanders of the Bar Confederation, an association of Polish and Lithuanian aristocrats who launched an uprising to curtail Russia’s influence over the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth.

Enjoying a reputation as a free-thinking, loose cannon, his heart often ruled his head. The historian and diarist Jędrzej Kitowicz described him as: “short and thin, pacing and speaking quickly, and uninterested in women or drinking.”

Instead, he devoted his energies to battle: “He enjoyed fighting against the Russians above everything else and was daring to the extent that he forgot about his safety in battles, resulting in his many failures on the battlefield,” added Kitowicz.

In and out of French prison for debt, Pulaski’s life had seemingly hit rock bottom. This, though, would change when he met Marquis de Lafayette, a French nobleman fighting for George Washington’s Continental Army. Pulaski needed little convincing to join the American cause, and Benjamin Franklin personally wrote to George Washington to recommend his recruitment: “Count Pulaski of Poland, an officer famous throughout Europe for his bravery and conduct in defense of the liberties of his country against the three great invading powers of Russia, Austria and Prussia... may be highly useful to our service,” wrote Franklin. In actuality, he would prove more than just “highly useful.” Landing in America in June,1777, his knowledge of lightning guerilla tactics was invaluable, and he was even credited with saving the life of George Washington after a bold cavalry charge secured the safe retreat of the man that would become America’s first president. Hailed for reforming the cavalry, Pulaski led his unit on a string of victorious campaigns. His bravery, however, was his downfall. Leading a charge against the British in Savannah, he was fatally wounded by grapeshot and passed away two days later on board a brig called the Wasp.

His heroism has never been forgotten. In 1929, Congress passed a resolution honoring October 11, the date of his death, as General Pulaski Memorial Day. This is just one of many honors bestowed upon him. Celebrated via numerous parades and the subject of several statues and street names, Pulaski was made an honorary American citizen in 2009 by Barack Obama. That he remains relevant to this day has not been lost on Joe Biden: “General Pulaski dedicated his life to the pursuit of liberty—not just for himself or his country but for all of us.” To all intents and purposes, he remains the ultimate freedom fighter.

I am honestly so disheartened by this world and so angry at every western leftist, and the flood of Palestinian or Israeli flags when there is no much silence now about Ukraine.

You told us we had enough support that's why you needed to focus elsewhere, so when do enough if us die for you to think us worthy of attention again?

I don't mean this to be an what about. This is just an expression of personal hurt and disappointment at the so called progressives.

And at the so called allies who defend the skies of one ally, finger wagging at them at most over what they do with their offensive weapons they give them while Ukraine begs and pleads for help, told not to hit the enemy here or there, told to watch itself or be left alone and even as Ukraine did everything it was asked for, fighting this war with hands tied and blindfolded, while it was dragged through every possible mud imaginable, belittled, and told to know it's place, it is now left alone anyway, while allies can't even manage sanctions worth a damn, while allies show concern over their oil prices, while allies debate and hand wring about Ukraine isn't NATO and escalation, another ally of theirs erases entire cities and with their weapons.

When so called progressives and allies of the oppressed spent years telling Ukrainians why the mere presence of bad elements in their country, and any mistake among any of their people in history means they should all be left to a hungry empire, don't deserve to live free, now call a terrorist organization who kidnap, rape, murder and oppress "freedom" fighters. The same people who dehumanized Ukrainians for years, called Ukraine a puppet, a proxy, a nation without a will of its own, now do the same to Palestinians, ignoring internal voices and needs. The same people told Ukraine over and over to accept its fate and give up, not to drag the world down with it, to take what they get and be fucking grateful, now demand the most useless and outlandishly impossible, uncompromising victory, who cry genocide at any suggestion of giving up, who have refused to see what life is like for Ukrainians under occupation, are now eagle eyed about why Palestinians or Israel's can't give in based on a history of abuses.

When every tragedy and massive loss of life by Ukraine was called into question, was doubted, lied about, debates, and turned over on every side to diminish the suffering, every report of every tragedy and accusations in I/P conflict is treated as gospel by thousands and then these same people turn around and mock Ukrainians for being so privileged, even as Ukraine stands increasingly alone apart from words and promises.

The hypocrisy is so blatant, so painful. Funny even when these same people point out petty instances of "bias" and "hypocrisy" of this state or that or the media.

This is not a special or unique anger and despair. This must be how many feel as the western "activists" move on to their next hip cause, presiding over tremendous suffering and deciding which one actually matters, completely blind to their own arrogance, and the colonialism of that thinking.

Then the dare, dare to use Ukraine to claim and compare to illustrate the bigger scope of the tragedy as if the losses aren't ongoing, as if soldiers aren't people, as if entire generation isn't being wiped out defending their country, as if lives can be weighted like grain. It does a disservice to all of the people involved and is moreover unnecessary. No one who doesn't yet support your cause is going to be convinced by these comparisons. It serves no benefit to raise support for one, merely feeds the self righteousness of current supporters. It only paints the other as less worthy of attention, as less important. My friend did not leave his house after over 12 hours to get his parent a needed medicine, passing the streets seeing countless of bodies on the sidelines of the streets, for people to say the masscare didn't happen.

My other friend did not go to 10 funerals last week for people to say the masscare didn't happen.

My TV isn't full of families begging to have their voice heard to return their familes from being held hostage by Hamas, for people to say that the kidnapped people are "fake news".

I didn't have a part of a rocket hitting the building next to mine (we're a total civilian area), while I squeezed into a bomb shelter with 14 more people, for people to think that "Hamas are freedom fighters".

People should have some shame for tearing down pictures of the hostages. And if someone so little as think "look how Hamas are treating and releasing people!" they forget the "who they kidnapped from their homes brutality!". Even more stupid - Hamas who they defend who tries to look more human (we know it's just PR) claim themselves to return the hostages "for humanitarian need".

Really. Some people are so stupid even with actual evidence from both sides in front of their eyes.

You're absolutely correct, and I can only say how deeply sorry I am for the trauma you and other Israelis are facing.

It's worse than stupidity. It's outright malice motivated solely by a deep hatred and contempt for Jews. That's the only reason they deny the massacre and downplay Hamas Nazism. If this were just a political dispute, nobody would hesitate to stand with Israel after October 7.

When the Russians committed war crimes against the Ukrainians in Bucha and other cities, millions condemned Russian soldiers. There was no debate. The fact that even worse terrorism against Jews has produced celebration, obfuscation, denial, and worse, equivocation, shows how many people worldwide are antisemitic.

And now time for: Echoes of History, first installment.

So I saw this tweet earlier,

- and thought "huh, that seems odd anyone might celebrate a Nazi." so, I did a little bit of digging, and found the Politico article to read for myself what the hubbub was about.

Now, I'm on principal skeptical of headlines, so I read through it, and the article details the ovation was for one Yaroslav Hunka, a 98 year old WWII veteran from modern day western Ukraine. He was heralded as a hero, not just to Ukraine, but to Canada as well, having been cited as a freedom fighter against Soviet rule.

However, at least one Jewish advocacy group took issue with this, because this man was a member of the 14th Waffen Grenadier division in the Shutztaffel, 1st Galician unit (Wikipedia article, well sourced) - meaning, this man served in the Nazi party's paramilitary forces, along with a collection of men from Galicia, which can be seen below.

Pretty shocking, huh? How could we possibly honor a man who obliged to such a heinous group as the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, commonly known as the Nazis?

Well, the answer might surprise you, if you're not familiar with the history of the region.

See, Nazi Germany marched through Poland in 1939, same years as the Soviets. But what happened prior to these invasions is arguably as heinous or moreso - the Holodomor, or "terror famines," of Ukraine. Ukraine was subsumed by the USSR, and in the aftermath the farmers of fertile Ukraine would be forced to surrender nearly all their yield to the Party for redistribution, which led to the starvation of between 3.5 and 7 million Ukrainians and some of the worst famines across Europe. Those who didn't starve were often rounded up, executed or imprisoned, and their land redistributed to the comrades of the Party.

Needless to say, Ukraine and her neighbor Poland were in dire straits.

Well, here's the thing about this scenario: the terrors of the Soviet Union were largely hidden from the outside world, and would remain such until the 1960s, when we got a peek into the Iron Curtain to see what Stalin's Party was doing. And what we would learn years later was the depths of depravity the USSR had went to in order to bring forth the great revolution.

Many Ukrainians and Polish saw the Soviets are, believe it or not, worse than Nazis, because of the simple fact that the Soviets were much less discerning on who they killed and how - any opposition, no matter how small, against the Party would be a death sentence. So, they got desperate, and some would opt to side with the devil they don't know, who wasn't actively genociding them, over the devil they did. This is where the 14th Waffen Grenadier comes in.

See this unit would become disbanded and reformed before the conclusion of World War II, being renamed toward the end as the First Division, Ukrainian National Army. Further, during its formation, one of the three major concessions made by the Germans at the request of the Ukrainian-majority unit Was they would not be sent westward, but would remain in the east to fight "Bolsheviks" - the old name of the Communist Party. Essentially, the unit was stood up as a sort of freedom fighter against Soviet oppression.

They would then surrender to the allied forces in 1945 at the end of the war in Europe.

And that is how a man who fought under the banner of the Shutztaffel could possibly be heralded as a hero to Ukraine - because he essentially joined a group of Ukrainian men in using Nazi equipment to fight Soviet oppression.

🤍 i am not pro-israel, nor am i pro-hamas. i don't give a shit if you're pro-palestinian. i have a problem with the hamas supporters/antisemites. i've hated bibi (netanyahu for you non-israelis) long before this conflict broke out, as do many other israelis and jews alike. i don't agree with a lot of the shit he says or how he is handling the current situation. i hate both sides of this conflict. imo, the hostages should be returned, and a PERMANENT ceasefire should be honored (this does not mean hamas consistently violating the ceasefires set in place; october 7th WAS a ceasefire violation).

🤍 so many of my family members are currently in the IDF being forced to fight in a war they never had a say about, and i don't know who out of them is still alive. i don't think the IDF's intent is to completely annihilate gaza, because trust me, they could have turned the entire strip into a fucking parking lot MONTHS ago. that said, i don't like what bibi and his posse are making them do over there. they're mostly just scared college kids forced into combat.
