i wish we could talk about coffee IN THEDAS? on a cultural level and its background with lucanis. cuz I've never heard of it in any other games so it's interesting to me like is it a class thing? where does it come from? why it is not popular in south? or is discovered in ten years (reasonable)? in my hc it's harvested in and sold from rivain but I'd really like to see more of it, the cultural stance and all. and economical which makes it interesting.
it doesn't add anything in to the game but having conversations makes you immerse and learn about worldbuilding and characters... like we didn't need to talk with fenris about literacy and how he was so interesting in Shartan but it's a content, it means something for the characters and gives things details, like in real life. so it's a general thing not just a coffee
actually i wish we could make ANYTHING into a conversation that reaches beyond the main topic lol but alas we'll just have to sneak in to eavesdrop
Oh, the coffee has been driving me CRAZY since the promo where it was looking like it would be lucanis' only personality trait. there's a post that was going around a while ago that i can't find now that iirc used coffee as an example when talking about white western fantasy authors being uninterested in extensive worldbuilding and how this can result in putting colonialism in your cosy escapist fantasy fluff novel. the coffee in treviso so widely available that coffee houses are a thing, not exactly mass produced but imported or widely farmed at least. coffee also seems to be equally as available in tevinter (if i'm remembering neve talking about it right), so that's at least two countries that are being supplied with coffee beans
who grows the coffee? where is it grown? who imports it? what do they trade for it? we're talking about antiva and tevinter here, slavery is legal in one of these countries and in the other country a massively influential faction benefits from the slave trade (not that you'd know it if you only played vg lol). even if coffee is grown in the country and not exported anywhere, cute little family farms where everyone is paid fairly aren't going to produce enough to sustain mass consumption in cities. rook can also respond that they prefer hot chocolate, which means we also have a cacao industry going as well.
ofc, this is an issue with all the da games and with most mainstream fantasy. i'm not saying i need every game to map out its trade routes and have characters look into the camera to acknowledge the spices they're putting into their food were likely the result of exploitation and would only have reached them under colonial circumstances etc etc. but veilguard's preoccupation with food and baking in a way that comes across as 'wholesome' makes this issue more pressing than it was in previous games - slavery barely exists but everyone can gather around the lighthouse table for a cosy talk about what their favourite spices and sweet treats and special drinks are. it kind of echoes how the white western consumerist mindset of ignoring how your starbucks and shein clothes and temu accessories were made because you buying them for yourself is an act of 'self care'

seeing everyone around me trying to become an influencer is so surreal and disheartening. like i love my friends i want them to succeed and get that bag but god i feel so sad that they have to commodify and commercialise themselves to create content and use hashtags to attract views and engagement. seeing the most creative, real, funny, down to earth people i know become someone else for an instagram reel. it feels inauthentic, like seeing a friend at a retail job. like i am watching them work for my attention. they don’t need to do that. anyway i’m not saying i don’t use hashtags or post things for others to see. but it’s the whole creation or exaggeration of a persona that’s then “sold” to me which is so off-putting. a good portion of my social media feed has just become friends creating content for strangers saying “come with me” “follow my journey” “subscribe”. as i said. the commodification and commercialisation of the self. i guess i miss everyone posting pics of friends and families and pets. i’m on social media to see what’s going on in your life holistically. but influencers need a niche.

I'm suffering Fates Brain Rot so I drew OCs? Logical!
Nytis (blondie) is a demon cleric who hates feeling any form of pain but lives to cause others pain (he does indeed see the irony of becoming a cleric). In order to help protect himself he forms a pact with Elnae (red gal) and she basically fights in his place if there is a threat of injury. She also does little errands like info-getting and sneaking around for him.
The thing is, while he can hurt others no problem and it's satisfying, he was granted the ability to heal others after he swore allegiance to a deity he holds no respect nor regard for. He honestly doesn't care about whatever gods exist. HOWEVER. As a demon, simply using holy magic actually hurts him so he's a pretty stingy healer and has a sword "just in case" he has to fight.
That said, he does actually have one thing he refuses to let go unpunished: a kid being injured/cursed. He might be a messed up demon but he draws the lines at letting kids suffer. When El asks about it and is like "haha what, did you have a bad childhood too, buddy?" he's like "???? How else would I end up like this? As a cleric? Hurting myself to heal? What the hell is wrong with you YES I had a bad childhood."

World Plumbing Day
World Plumbing Day is an international event, initiated by the World Plumbing Council, held on 11 March each year to recognize the important role plumbing plays in societal health and amenity.
The WPC, through its member countries and its partnerships with bodies like the World Health Organisation, works all year round to promote the benefits of safe plumbing, but in 2010 it decided to launch the concept of embedding a single day on the world’s calendar dedicated to plumbing.
History of World Plumbing Day
The idea was that on March 11 each year people all over the world would pause to reflect on the vital role plumbing plays in preserving their health and way of life – in the case of countries like ours – or in building sustainable disease-free futures for millions in the developing world. And so World Plumbing Day was born, and it is big and getting bigger all the time.
Today, on the continents of Australia, Europe, and Africa events are organized to mark the occasion and draw attention to the importance of good plumbing and sanitation. In China, England, Germany, India, Canada, North, and South America and many more places industry leaders – like us here today – governments, policymakers, and community-based organizations are promoting World Plumbing Day.
How to celebrate World Plumbing Day
Right now, today, in offices and training colleges, on worksites and in classrooms, and in legislatures and Parliaments around the world, World Plumbing Day is being marked and recognized. In media releases and magazine articles in Chinese, Hindi, English, German and Spanish the message about the link between good plumbing sanitation and human and environmental health is reaching millions of people each March.
World Plumbing Day: Encouraging Health Through Plumbing
World Plumbing Day recognizes the critical link between health and plumbing facilities. Indeed, the bathroom plays a significant role in maintaining our health all around the world. Everybody understands the role of sanitized, plumbing solutions to cut germs in their paths.
Just how many germs live in your bathroom is unclear, but it’s the place where you can find some of the most harmful bacteria, such as bacillus, gram-negative rods, cocci, and gram-positive rods. These different bacteria types are harmful to the human population and can cause a variety of health concerns such, skin infections and pneumonia. Some types are also resistant to antibiotics, which brings a completely new meaning to World Plumbing Day.
Indeed, good plumbing is not just a nice thing to have to keep your bathroom looking pretty. It’s the safest and quickest way to maintain and protect your health.
Supporting initiatives to develop plumbing on World Plumbing Day
Let’s be honest. Not everybody has access to the same plumbing system. Populations in developing countries don’t always have toilets or even running water. While it’s making us appreciate our bathrooms a lot more, on World Plumbing Day, you can actively decide to share your plumbing with others. No, it doesn’t mean inviting people to see your bathroom.
But you can have a look for organizations that help to bring modern plumbing facilities to some of the most impoverished areas on the planet. Toilet twinning charities can make a massive difference to the health of individuals around the world. You can donate to a charity that helps to build toilets in developing areas. Additionally, you can find organizations such as Who Gives A Crap that sell recycled toilet paper and repurpose 50% of their profits to build toilets.
Introducing healthy bathroom habits on World Plumbing Day
There’s a reason why your parents taught you to wash your hands after going to the bathroom. It ensures that you can wash potentially harmful bacteria away. Did you know that if everybody washed their hands after a toilet break, the risk of catching diseases would be almost non-existent? Not that we catch diseases only in the bathroom, but most of our usual stomach bugs, flu, and other infectious viruses could be contained with proper hand washing techniques!
That sounds interesting, doesn’t it? Make hygiene your top priority on World Plumbing Day. You can teach your kids always to wash their hands. Besides, you can also introduce a bathroom routine to keep everything as clean as possible. Changing your hand towel every week is a no-brainer. But also remember to keep your apparent plumbing clean to avoid any contamination! Nobody likes mold patches in the shower!
Supporting your local workers on World Plumbing Day
Plumbers have a huge responsibility when it comes to health. On World Plumbing Day, celebrating your local plumbing expert is the best way to spend the day. No, it doesn’t mean throwing them a party! But you can steer away from harmful DIY practices that end up being a false economy. DIY repair jobs at home can turn against you if you don’t know what you’re doing.
So if the toilet gets blocked regularly or if you notice that your pipes are wet to the touch, it’s best to get in touch with a professional plumber. Plumbing knowledge protects your home hygiene. You could damage your pipe or plumbing system, while a plumber can identify the issue and fix it while keeping your system safe.
Appreciating modern facilities on World Plumbing Day
Taking care of your plumbing is part of your maintenance duty as a homeowner. Plumbing is not often high on our list of priorities, especially when everything works. But, on World Plumbing Day, you can start a new habit to keep your plumbing system working for as long as possible. Learning some of the quick fixes for everyday plumbing challenges can help you look after your pipes. Regular maintenance is necessary.
Why not take the time to get your pipes checked for potential clog risks and condition assessment by a professional plumber? You can also include sewer inspection to avoid bad surprises when your sewer pipes suddenly clog up! Additionally, you can banish harmful chemicals that are too aggressive on the pipes. Instead, use filters to capture potential obstructions such as hair before they enter the system. You can also add a water softener solution to reduce issues that can develop as a result of prolonged exposure to hard water. Keeping your pipes clean and free of obstacles keep your bathroom safe!

National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day
There are few things that are more alluring for food lovers than the smell of a hot pastrami sandwich that is winging its way across a restaurant. For those that salivate at the thought, celebrating National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day is a must.
National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day is a celebration of the mouthwatering, edible treat that is the much-loved hot pastrami sandwich. A shining example of culinary beauty, this delicious delicacy is created using thin slices of piping hot pastrami that are served on rye bread, usually topped with melted Swiss cheese slices, a helping of Russian dressing, and a pickle on the side.
What some people might consider to be just a sandwich, other folks recognize this sandwich as the perfect (and only) reason to celebrate on this day. Get ready to enjoy National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day!
History of National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day
A staple must-try dish for those visiting the iconic American city of New York (where the sandwich originated), the hot pastrami sandwich has a rich history, and it has inspired many a chef to experiment with its treasured ingredients. It’s rare for a simple snack to bear such significance and carry such gravitas in the gastronomic world, and this is why National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day came into being.
Pastrami is a very popular meat product, one that seems to have originated in the Jewish communities of Romania. Pastrami comes from the Romanian word ‘pastrama,’ which is a derivative of the word ‘pastra,’ a word indicating that a food has been conserved or preserved.
Usually made from beef, pastrami started as a means of making meat last longer in the days before refrigeration became commonplace. To make pastrami, raw meat is placed in a salty brine and then partly dried before the intense flavor is added using various seasonings, such as mustard, black pepper, coriander, garlic, onion and more. The meat is then smoked and cured before it eventually lands on plates served in front of hungry, but ultimately very happy, customers.
Pastrami shot to fame across the world in the late 1800s as a result of migration. And this sandwich is now a staple ingredient on the menus of trendy cafes, traditional sandwich shops, delicatessens and street food stalls.
The first hot pastrami sandwich of note is believed to have been produced by kosher butcher, Sussman Volk, in 1887. Though Volk was a Lithuanian immigrant who ran his own deli, he had received the recipe from a Romanian friend. The story goes that pastrami became very popular, and it was Volk who then began serving it on rye bread, making the beginnings of the sandwich that it has become today.
The classic hot pastrami sandwich features slices of meat, freshly cut bread (usually rye), mustard, and pickles. Over the years, many have attempted their own versions, adding and subtracting ingredients to add flavor or a dash of creativity. Pastrami features in several dishes, but the traditional hot pastrami sandwich is by far its most high-profile use.
It’s no secret that the hot pastrami sandwich has something of a cult following (just ask Joey Tribbiani, the sandwich-loving character in the hit show Friends), so it’s no wonder that hundreds of foodies look forward to the arrival of National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day!
How to Celebrate National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day
There’s no better way to celebrate National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day than enjoying your own sumptuous sandwich of pastrami on rye. Try out these other ideas for celebrating the day:
Host a Hot Pastrami Sandwich Party
Recreate the recipe and host a party at home for friends and fellow pastrami aficionados. Put out a sandwich bar (filled with rye bread, pastrami, and toppings) and then guests can build their own to just their preferred specifications. Put a little toaster oven at the end of the line for everyone to be able to heat up their sandwiches. Or, for those who don’t feel like making food, feel free to cater it in through a local deli!
Enjoy Pastrami Sandwiches with Coworkers
Order in to the office for an interesting take on a working lunch. Or book a table at one of the leading pastrami sandwich shops in the local area and let an expert do the cooking for you and a group of colleagues.
Learn Fun Facts About Pastrami
Impress folks with interesting bits of trivia and fun facts about the featured meat in the Hot Pastrami Sandwich. Get started with these bits of information that can be shared and passed on for the day:
The oldest surviving New York deli is Katz’s Delicatessen, which has operated continuously since its founding in 1888. Crystal was said to have been munching on a pastrami sandwich while the famous scene was being filmed.

The Travel Channel’s Food Wars show dedicated an entire episode to this sandwich, all about the New York Pastrami Wars.
The world pastrami eating record is held by American Joey Chestnut, who won by eating 25 pastrami sandwiches (7 ounces each) in the span of 10 minutes.

Held each year in Warsaw, Poland, this festival features pastrami served in a variety of ways, whether traditional or unconventional. Make plans to visit this capital and largest city in Poland, and get some authentically created pastrami dishes from this region of eastern Europe where it all began.

Don’t worry, Virginias of Austria.
Should that St-Nicholas-isn’t-real pastor’s vacation to either one of your cities happen on December 5, and he flies out at least 2 days after December 6, I bet that Krampus would come by his hotel, whoop his Grinchy butt with birch branches, and leave twigs and coal in his bigoted boots that next morning.
That would be IF he pulls the same henious stunt in your Christmas markets AS WELL AS anywhere else JUST AS he did so at Westgate Mall in Amarillo stateside.
