Hey y'all. It's International Holocaust Awareness day Both of these books changed me. Consider reading them or please share for someone else who might. It's never a bad thing to learn more.

Inside the Gas Chambers: Eight Months in the Sonderkommando of Auschwitz by Slomo Venezia This is one of the only books I've found that touches on the living conditions and viewpoint of a Jew from Greece. Reading it, the author felt like a friend. It was horrifying.

Nazi Doctors: Medical Killing and the Psychology of Genocide this book explained people were taught to completely separate Jews from being human in people's minds in the years leading up to the Holocaust- especially in the medical field. It has interviews with some of the doctors who did these things. The site for the books also has an archive of images, films, objects, publications, recorded sounds and documents. You can find information on many communities. Thank you

I don't think most of my followers actually need to be told, but: y'all gotta let people switch sides.

I'm seeing a lot of "if you voted for Trump you're not welcome here" floating around. A lot of "haha the leopards are eating your face how does it feel". A lot of talk about the irredeemability of Nazis, with the strong implication that everyone who had any hand in bringing the current administration to power is a full-on Nazi and should be shot without trial.

People were fooled. People were lied to. People who genuinely tried to do their research were lied to by sources that had been reliable for decades. People who didn't have the time or the education to do their own research because they're fucking poor in America are finding out they were lied to.

If someone is trying to get out of a cult, you don't fucking lock them back in. You give them a place to run to. And if someone is trying to join your side in a battle that, at least hypothetically, is supposed to be settled by future democratic elections and therefore by strength of numbers, you fucking let them.

People are scared. People are finding out they were wrong. We are nowhere near the point yet where the wrong side is composed entirely of Bad Guys, if we ever will be. (Hell, eleven years after Hitler took power, some of his own generals tried to assassinate him with an exploding briefcase. It failed, but every time I see that stupid Tarantino gifset go by about "everyone in a Nazi uniform is irredeemably evil", that's what I think of. People are complicated, and everyone has their own breaking point.)

Where we *are* at is a point where people who don't want to be the bad guys are finding out what they were tricked into and trying to stop doing it. If you have any remaining faith in the democratic process at all, you should be helping those people join us and understand what the sides actually stand for, how they can actually fight for lower egg prices or whatever they were falsely promised. Even if you don't think democracy will help anymore, having a bigger group to fight alongside you is generally a good thing.

Or you could just take your hatred out on the most convenient targets, instead of on those who exploited them. Seems popular.

Before I say anything, I need y’all to hear me out: I am NOT against Palestine/Palestinians. AT ALL.

What I am, is noticing patterns. I notice the way a lot (not all, don’t start with me) of pro-Palestine supporters treat Jews. I’m surprised I haven’t see “the only good Jew is a dead Jew” circulating, because that’s a lot of the rhetoric I hear on this topic.

A lot (again, not all) of pro-Palestine supporters haven’t looked up anything. They hop on the bandwagon of the more popular side. They think Zionist is the Jewish version of Hamas. It is not. At their cores, Zionists believe Jews should have their homeland of Israel back, for any Jews who would like to return. Hamas is an organization hellbent on wiping out Jews. These two groups are not the same. “Zionist” is not a dirty word. It’s not a slur. Stop treating it as such, or we’ll never leave this cycle. Misinformation is Ouroboros eating its tail: a self-fulfilling prophecy that only results in pain for everyone.

This difference in the way the two ethnic groups are treated is even exemplified in Tumblr tags. When I type Palestine:

Time to dust this favorite quote off after 11 years in the time where we need Captain America the most to save us from Nazis.

Because someone is on the ball, Turner Classic is playing (among other WWII films) The Great Dictator today.

If you haven't seen it, please do. It was produced by Charlie Chaplin in the late 1930s, when it became clear that the war was going to happen, and came out in 1940 after it had started. Essentially, Chaplin realized that his famous mustache was about to be usurped forever by a fascist, and that fascist was going to kill a lot more people in the future than he had already.

It's a parody, made before the worst horrors of the Nazi regime were known to the general public, so there is discomfort here (if you've seen Disney's Der Fuhrer's Face, you'll get the idea), but the movie ends with Chaplin essentially saying "fuck it, no one else seems to be speaking out about this and I'm going to use my platform to do that."

For context, this character is a Jew who has been mistaken for the dictator (for obvious mustache-related reasons), and has been sent onstage at a rally to give a speech. Instead of trying to impersonate Hitler, he says what he really thinks. And keep in mind, Chaplin was coming out of semi-retirement for this. It was the first time most people had ever heard him speak, and this is what he said:

I've decided to make this post including some not so fun historical facts about nazis.

Targeted more than Jews

Most think that only Jewish people were sent to the concentration camps, but that's not true. Several other types of people were prosecuted as well, including

Black People

Trans, Gay, and all other Queers

Conscientious Objectors

Disabled People

Polish people

People of differing politics

Romani

Alcoholics & Heavy Addicts

Soviets

Felons

Religious groups other than Christian when applicable to circumstance

Other non-white peoples when applicable to circumstance

Their Uniforms Had A Very Planned Design

You ever wondered why the uniforms of the nazi party looked good? No one here is judging. At the time period the designs were found to be very fashionable, but also deliberately designed so.

The uniforms were designed to be attractive to the German people, and to intimidate/lower the moral of enemies. Many smaller details didn't lie at all about the nazis intentions, such as the SS's silver skull buttons on their jackets.

There were very strict codes and expectations over nazis, down to hairstyle, uniform maintenance, and even a requests for lack of facial scarring.

Nowadays due to the atrocities committed we all meet with the uniforms in disgusts and horror, knowing the trail of blood that came with it.

Did Meth & Cocaine

Many soldiers, militaries, and parties of the time did Meth and Cocaine. Nazis too did meth, too much of it even, with some commanders writing home that the usage of pervatin (meth) in chocolate, pill, or cookie form was becoming a problem in the German army and killing the remaining youth deployed.

SS officers even had pockets of cookies called at the time "Magic Cookies".

Very strange that they also targeted addicts, while chewing into some magical cookies on the job. Who knew nazis were hypocrital?!

Used babies as target practice

The Nazis committed so many atrocities over the course of the World War I didn't even know which one to pick for this.

One story that heard many times over in survivor accounts, documented massacres, and things we even have video of was nazis treatment towards children of groups they prosecuted, especially the Jewish and Polish people.

From stories of trucks full of dead babies, to mass graves, to toddler being beaten against the concrete like dolls, to machine gunners practicing their shot on babies. You heard that right. They threw babies into the air and shot them.

Their infanticide didn't stop there though. They went on to kill children in many many many other ways throughout their tyranny.

I even found an Oxford article discussing how they would just let premature infants die because they weren't worth the care.

Hitler had a gay right hand man, who he later betrayed

The prime example and very inspiration for the Leopard Eating My Face Party. Ernst Roehm was Hitler's right hand man who advocated for the death of Jewish people, and helped Hitler with publicity and popularity in German. As soon as the Reich gained full control of Germany he was the first of many gay people to fall.

Oh and by the way Ernst Roehm was very open about his homosexuality. Hitler defended him many times when the nazis all stopped getting along, but as soon as it was time to rid Germany of the gay people Roehm was first to go.

They had strict animal transportation expectations

You've probably heard the fact that Hitler loved dogs, or that he was a vegetarian. This proceeded more than just his estate. He had set very strict care for the transportation of animals in the war. This means by the end of the day dogs had better train conditions than the Jewish people were shipped to camps after Kristallnacht.

Japanese were temporary "honorary Aryans"

It didn't actually matter who was Aryan, White, and Blonde-Haired. None of that actually meant anything. Many times did the Nazis work alongside groups they equally would've genocided as soon as the chance arose. One of these very allies were the Imperialist Japan, which would prompt Hitler to write a doctrine temporarily marking them as honorary Aryans, citing their viscous militaristic drive and power.

Their ideology originated from American eugenics

Nazi's ultranationalist ideals didn't just pop into existence out of nowhere. They came form intense admiration and interests of Eugenics in the United States.

Many of the human rights violations and incredibly racists ideas originated from things already happening in the United States, and the also super racists ultranationalist group the KKK.

The sterilization of hundreds of thousands of people? The United States did that first.

The idea that there is one powerful more superior version of human being in one's ethnic background of being white? The United States did that first.

Hanging, electric chair, firing squad, executing minorities in any way they felt either through a corrupt legal system or public mobs? The United states did that first.

Destroyed thousands of books, including newfound medical knowledge

Over 25,000 books were destroyed in one day of book burning, just one day of book burning in Nazi Germany. One major source of knowledge they decided needed to be destroyed was the scientific discoveries that disproved and challenged the bad science of Eugenics.

We'll never know what important things and pieces of history were lost to time, but we do know a bit about what kind of literature were targeted

LGBTQ+ books

Books about pacifism and rebellion

Women's Rights books

Antiwar books

Intellectualism books

Books about politics and religion

Disability Advocacy

Advocacy for worker's rights and improved factory conditions

Pieces written by groups they prosecuted

And they didn't just stop at books. There was banned, banished, and destroyed paintings, plays, movies, art movements entirely. They even had a museum dedicated to "degenerate art" to show people what not to create.

Were terrible at science

I don't even know how to explain this one without getting into some science student mumbo-jumbo, but the nazis were super shit at science. Many of the terrible unethical experiments that they committed cannot even be learned from because they were just badly done. We rare got anything about the human condition, anatomy, or neurology because they were so bad at science.

Many of the terrible experiments they ran anyway were just excuses to torture people, because they were easy to prove wrong or were even about things people already widely understood.

Genocide Didn't Stop at the Jews

Genocide didn't stop within Europe. The nazis also genocided many peoples in Africa. I would get into it further, but I'm sure you can expect the very same things they did to the Jewish, or the same things the Italians did to them.

Separated Children From Their Parents

What happened when nazis found a little white blue-eyed and blond haired child who belonged to a lovely couple in Hungary? Kidnapped them of course and reprogrammed them as a nazi youth child. What else would they do?!

Over the course of the war, with each nation Germany invaded, thousands of children were relocated to die, work to death, or be indoctrinated. Many of those children survived the war even and then had to go on and search for their parents only to find their mothers and fathers died inside camps. Families spent nearly the whole century after the war searching for relatives, and the majority never ever reunited.

Massacre After Massacre

With each nation they entered, another population was to be massacred, however nazis weren't just in the German army. In fact there were Nazi groups in Russia, who betrayed their comrades and slaughtered thousands, as well as other European nations they fought against.

From the burnings of churches full of hostages, to the death camps, every time the nazis succeeded it meant another group of people were to die.

To this day we still deal with nazis. They are no longer that original group that we know from 1940s Germany, and unfortunately they're not alone. The KKK is still around, and extremists all over the world have continued to pursue to the same idiotic ideology that has been proven wrong time and time again.

If we continue to let them prosper and succeed without standing our grounds we are allowing the next set of massacres to happen.

So next time you see nazi, punch them.

She worked as a corrections officer in a prison in Upstate New York until the criminal carceral system as we know it ceased to exist when Loki made a second end-run at conquering Earth (give or take) 13 years after the events of Avengers 1. She is old enough to remember the first Battle of New York (or news coverage of it) and it heavily affected her worldview, causing her to become a bit of a doomsday prepper and gun nut in adulthood, which turned out to be useful when she then joined a rebellion (the Patriotic Earth Army) against Loki's regime.

She was put in charge of her unit pretty much by default, because so many of her fellow rebels had died or gone MIA after numerous violent confrontations with Loki's army. At a point where their numbers have dwindled, she and the other rebels are starving, and winter is coming up fast, she leads the survivors across the state to (approximately) Albany County, where Loki has taken up residence at a clandestine military base colloquially referred to as "the fortress." She is a notoriously bad navigator and thus had no idea that she had led her soldiers into the Royal Guard's jurisdiction (the 100 mile radius surrounding wherever Loki is) until her comrades start going missing one by one, returning to the group days later in a state of extreme psychological distress - which she perceives as a warning. She puts them out of their misery, as their condition seems incurable.

Then she gets abducted/arrested by the Royal Guard, taken to the fortress, where she has her first run-in with Loki (that she knows of) and is placed in solitary confinement after a sham trial at which she is convicted of war crimes, treason, and blasphemy. She is re-sentenced thereafter to further confinement "at an undisclosed location," that location being Loki's living area within the fortress.

Awful things happen.

What happens thereafter is a forced marriage storyline with extra complications. She struggles to reconcile her dual roles as prisoner and (eventually) Queen, and her opposing loyalties to the Patriotic Earth Army (a number of whom believe she betrayed them) and the Royal Guard (who are now under orders to protect her, mostly from each other). She also creates complications for herself by lying a lot in order to survive, and by lashing out in anger against people who might otherwise be allies to her.

Anger is her go-to response to stress or trauma.

And let's see... other details about her background:

She is the daughter of Cuban refugees. Her dad served in the US military. He was her biggest role model growing up but died suddenly when she was a teenager (cardiac arrest while they were out for a father-daughter jog in the suburbs on a random weekend).

Carla began having behavioral issues at school after dad's death, and consequently was mandated to attend therapy, and faced expulsion. Despite this, she did graduate high school by the skin of her teeth, but didn't further her education.

She is bisexual and probably has a mild to moderate preference for women.

She has begun to hear voices. She thinks this is because of the solitary confinement. It's actually because Loki has been enchanting her in order to access her memories and/or force her to re-experience them, and a side effect of this is her brain is getting scrambled.

She is an excellent shot with either a rifle or a handgun. Unlike most of the other rebels who learned to shoot for this specific purpose, she has been honing her skills for years.

She is also quite athletic and prides herself on physical fitness. The lack of exercise she gets while held prisoner-wife is a source of anxiety.

She is developing a drinking problem.
