I can't help myself. I have to share. More Star Trek people today, plus Catherine Tate (who grabbed my badge and signed it bc the sutograph I got was for my sister and she though that was so sweet), and 3 of the 4 Hobbits (Frodo, Merry, and Pippin). Didn't get photos with all of them bc money, but they were all so nice and wonderful to talk to.
Most especially though was Michelle Hurd. I was so nervous and excited to meet her that I was literally shaking and she was never impatient as I rambled about how much I appreciate her work, on screen, yes (playing queer multiple times even when it could have been detrimental to her career) but also for all she did during the writers' strike and for all she does for women of color, women in general, the queer community, and combating the lies that orange cheeto guy and his cronies spread. She is an amazing woman and one of the kindest I have ever met at a con.

Oooooh, pick me, pick me!
Ahem! What would the various Boyd characters play in a D&D game, and what would their play styles be like?
Steve Murphy: Steve doesn’t know anything about DnD, but he immediately studies up on the rules and after a thorough review and cross-analysis of the classes and species, he decides the most tactical pick is a rock-gnome artificer. He’s lazy about the name though and just calls him “Todd”. His gnome is lawful good, and Steve sticks to that religiously. He’s a very studious player who’s very into the gameplay mechanics, and really likes problem-solving in the game. He’s… often sort of obnoxious to play with, and can sometimes steamroll over other players.
Donald Pierce: Pierce plays a half-elf, true neutral warlock woman with a tragic backstory he spent three sleepless nights meticulously plotting out. He’s the type of player that’s sort of dragged into it semi-unwillingly by someone else (Gabby), but once they’re in, they’re *in*. He gets so into the game, and specifically the roleplaying/story elements. (He also LOVES being a warlock, having a patron looking out for him is Very Sexy.)
Cap Hatfield: Cap plays a Dragonborn ranger of indeterminate gender! Their alignment is lawful neutral, and although Cap is overall a casual player, he’s very serious about sticking to his alignment. He does have a fairly intricate backstory for his character, but it doesn’t come up super often. Cap’s a pretty quiet player, and tends to go with the flow in most sessions! He’d actually make an excellent DM one of these days.
Clement Mansell: Clement thinks DnD is GREAT. He has a blast with his bard; he’s a chaotic neutral tiefling man (Clement likes the idea of an “outlaw devil musician”), and he absolutely poured so many stats into charisma. He mostly just acts like himself when he’s playing. He’s sometimes kind of annoying, but he can also be super fun to have around.
The Corinthian: Corinthian plays as a male human, of course! He goes for a chaotic neutral rogue, and mostly just tries to have fun. He doesn’t really concern himself too closely with the rules or the gameplay mechanics, he just likes the story, and building on scenarios with other players. It’s sort of an exotic delight to get to participate in this type of story creation, even just as a player!
Eli Klaber: Klaber designs his character to be a drop-dead gorgeous elf woman, and has every freckle on her face mapped out. She’s a true neutral fighter: the mechanics for fighters are simple, and pretty easy to get into for a newbie. Honestly, Klaber mostly likes getting to roleplay as his character the best. He doesn’t really care too much about what his party does in general.
Ty Shaw: Ty rolls for a male, half-orc barbarian. Despite being a real bruiser Ty ends up actually just trying to talk his way out of problems. His character’s technically neutral evil, but Ty doesn’t actually do much that’s very evil at all.
Quinn McKenna: Quinn makes a character mostly as a concession to Nebraska, who’s running a game, but he ends up having a decent time with it, especially when he realizes how stat focused it can be. He is *such* an optimizer. He doesn’t get as granular during the character rolling process as Steve though - he mostly just fashions a character that’s… kind of just like him: a lawful neutral, human male paladin, who’s taken the oath of the watchers. He doesn’t like having to roleplay at all. When his ‘character’ talks, that’s just Quinn.

LOGAN Star Boyd Holbrook Rumored To Be In Talks To Play Two-Face In THE BATMAN - PART II
Tumblr media
(source: comicbookmovie.com)
A new rumor doing the rounds online is claiming that Boyd Holbrook (Logan, The Sandman) is in talks to play Harvey Dent/Two-Face in Matt Reeves' The Batman sequel…
Plot details for Matt Reeves' highly-anticipated sequel to The Batman are still under wraps, but several rumors relating to certain characters that could be introduced have been doing the rounds over the past few months. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn appeared to debunk reports that the likes of Scarecrow, Clayface, Professor Pyg, and Hush, were set to appear in the movie, but we're now hearing that Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face, may have a part to play. According to CanWeGetSomeToast, Boyd Holbrook is in talks to play the classic Batman villain in the upcoming sequel. Holbrook has quite a bit of experience portraying bad guys, having appeared as Donald Pierce in Logan, The Corinthian in Netflix's The Sandman, and more recently, Kaber in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. When the new DCU slate was announced, James Gunn confirmed that Reeves' "BatVerse" will remain separate from the DCU, so this movie, along with Todd Phillips' Joker sequel, will be considered "Elseworlds" tales. A new actor will don the cape and cowl for Batman: The Brave and the Bold, which will also feature a different take on Robin - The Caped Crusader's son, Damian Wayne. Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, and Colin Farrell are all expected to reprise their respective roles, and characters introduced in the Penguin Max spin-off series are also likely to appear. As far as official info goes, Reeves has stated that his sequel will continue this "epic crime saga," but that's about all we have to go on. One rumor did claim that the story will be at least partially based on Geoff Johns' Batman: Earth One. Of course, the first film took a certain amount of inspiration from Vol. 1, so we assume the sequel would be more influenced by Volumes 2 and 3. For those unfamiliar with the comic, Earth One takes place in the alternate continuity and features an updated and more realistic reinterpretation of the classic Batman origin and characters. Hush does not appear, but the later volumes do feature Clayface, Scarecrow, and a female take on Two-Face in Harvey Dent's twin sister Jessica. What do you make of this casting rumor? Assuming Two-Face will appear, do you think Holbrook would be a good pick for the character?

Everyone who has ever, even slightly, been Robin
*In official, DC-endorsed media
Total: 100 (i think)
FYI:
my definition of a ‘Robin’ is extremely vague. For example, I’m counting Lois Lane because she went to a costume party as Robin, and I’m also counting ‘Boy’ from Batman: the Return of Bruce Wayne because he had the domino mask paint and was clearly a stand-in for Robin. Et cetera.
They’re organized chronologically by their first appearance as Robin
Also this is heavily dependent on DC Fandom Wiki, so please let me know if I missed anyone or if anything is inaccurate
KEY
Red = actually Robin for a significant portion of time (more than a few in-universe days & more than one issue/episode/movie/etc)
Italics = was never Robin in main continuity (i.e. Earth Two [before Earth One existed], Earth One, New Earth, and Prime Earth)

Movie Review: A Complete Unknown
Bob Dylan has always been a tough nut to crack, which is why there have rarely been movies about him. Sure, there's been some documentaries about him (most notably Martin Scorsese's excellent doc No Direction Home) and he's acted too (my favorite being Sam Peckinpah's Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid), but the legendary singer-songwriter has always been so enigmatic that his story doesn't fall into the traditional music biopic, i.e. Ray or Bohemian Rhapsody. The closest we've come is Todd Haynes' I'm Not There, where instead of doing a traditional biopic, he had multiple actors playing Dylan at various times in his life. It was an original take on the subject, but the issue I had was that some of the story / performances were leaps and bounds better than others, i.e. the Cate Blanchett sequence was time capsule worthy...the Richard Gere sequence, not so much. But now stepping up to the plate to take a swing at Bob Dylan from 1961 to 1965 (a pretty significant time in his career) is director James Mangold. I've been a fan since his early work like Heavy and Cop Land. His career since then has been, well, mixed (I was one of the few to give a somewhat positive review of last year's sequel Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny which had its moments and was actually better than Indy 4), but among his best is the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line. Mangold has always been a great actor's director and in that one the leads actors rose above the tropes of music biopics. If anyone can make the challenge of a BD biopic work it's Mangold with A Complete Unknown opening this week.
Tumblr media
movie poster
Timothee Chalamet plays young BD as he arrives in NYC from Minnesota. Upon going to visit his hero Woody Guthrie (Scoot McNairy, just recently seen in Nightbitch) in the hospital he plays a song for him and Guthrie's friend Pete Seeger (Edward Norton), who takes him under his wing. He plays some folk music clubs in Greenwich Village and crosses paths with Joan Baez (Monica Barbaro), who BD had a complicated relationship with over the years. BD even has some brief interactions with Johnny Cash (Boyd Holbrook, but I think it would've been cool if Mangold connected both his music films and had Joaquin Phoenix play him here!). There's also the relationship he has with his girlfriend at the time Sylvie Russo (played by Elle Fanning, playing a version of Suze Rotolo, whose real name was not used in this film at BD's request). That's her with BD on the cover of The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan album. The film shows his rise from NYC folk singer with his guitar and harmonica to being a cultural phenomenon and it builds to his headlining of Seeger's Newport Folk Festival in 1965, the famous Dylan Goes Electric moment.
Tumblr media
Chalamet as BD
Tumblr media
the real BD circa 1965
Let me begin this by just saying that I am by no means a Dylanologist. I discovered him through my Dad, who was a fan of his 60s works and I became a fan of his late 80s supergroup The Traveling Wilburys. I own 11 of his albums including compilations, but I'm no means an expert. Although I did do a parody / homage of the "Subterranean Homesick Blues" video for my documentary Life on the V: The Story of V66) I say this because I was not watching this like a fanatic dissecting all of the factual elements of this and what creative liberties Mangold took. But getting back to my original statement, BD is a tough nut to crack. His enigmatic mysteriousness has always been a part of his allure, but it makes it hard to have some music biopic with an actor doing some over-dramatic impression of him. All of the relationships in his life know him from a distance. Sylvie tries to get to him and he pushes back. In a way, what Mangold his trying to show (at times this is presented better than others), but like a lot of artists, they say so much in their work that they have very little to say even to their most intimate partners outside of their art. For Chalamet it's all in the eyes. He's done some impressive work in films like Call Me By My Name, Beautiful Boy and the Dune movies, but here he's not letting it all out, he's holding it all in, except for the music performances. It would be easy to just do some highly exaggerated impression like Dana Carvey did on SNL in 1991 (which was pure Comedy Gold and is still LOL today I might add), but Chalamet is trying to keep the audience guessing what's behind those sunglasses. I also loved the way that the production design and cinematography was clearly referencing the famous photographs and album covers. Beyond the excellent musical performance sequences, the thing I loved the most about this was the overall message that as an artist you need to be true to yourself. BD can't consider what his fans, the label, his girlfriends, or even his mentor Peter Seeger want from him, he has to do what he wants and that's the end of the conversation. I respect that! As a film about a folk singer in 1960s NYC, I think the fictional Inside Llewyn Davis is probably a better film, but when this movie gets going I'm willing to look the other way on a lot of the music biopic tropes and celebrate the overall message itself!
