As a child who didn't speak the local language when I started going to school, do teach them at least the basics before they go to school. Maybe not from birth, but at least before they go to school. It doesn't have to be much, but stuff like greetings, how to communicate if they're unwell/ uncomfortable/ need something, and at least vaguely how to communicate with other kids; children can form groups of friends very young and beyond that they might not to change much for a long time (at least in smaller classes/communities) and not knowing what's happening and not being able to talk to others during those formative years can greatly stunt their social lives. Also, being in school for the first time is scary enough, but it's even worse when you don't know what anyone is saying!!
Of course, still teach them your native language, make it the primary language you speak at home and expose them to media in that language (that one is more important than you might think!) But also please don't throw them in completely blind.
For the love of god if your native language is different from the majority language of the country you’re living in don’t raise your baby speaking the local language. Either have each parent speak to them in a different language or only speak your native language at home. The kid will be okay. Get your native language in their head. You may think you’re helping them in the long term giving them the local language but no. When they’re an adult they’ll wonder why you never taught them your language. They can and will learn the local language in school. They’ll be okay. Produce more bilingual children. They are good for society.

as a child there's nothing cooler than a kid who gets subjected to evil experiments and gains special abilities. it's even cooler if these abilities also cause unfathomable suffering to use/against others. children love stories like this.

“girl dinner” “girl math” “i’m just a girl” okay but I am an adult I am six feet tall I am loud as fuck I take up space I am smart and capable. So are you. Why would we want to laugh at jokes where the punchline is that women aren’t? Why would we want to make jokes about being small and childish and incapable? Who do you think laughs at those jokes the loudest?

It's honestly crazy that discussion around testosterone HRT skews so much towards the beginning stages of it (to the point that you have dozens of guys thinking their transition is "failed" if they don't pass by like a year in lol) and what the initial changes of the first couple of months to years look like, like the classic laundry list of those early basic changes like bottom growth, voice drop, etc, when IMO literally none of that compares remotely to the depth and intensity of the long term total masculinization you start to experience like 3-5+ years in.

[Images show a bird carved from soapstone. It is quite stylized, with a small head and elegantly curved fat body. Vela has drawn interpretations of the carving, with the bird posing in different positions. End ID.]

People against piracy fail to realize that no, I can’t just ‘buy it.’ They stopped making DVDs and Blu-Rays. They’re barely offering digital copies for download. I am not spending money I could use for food or bills to pay for a subscription service just so I can always have access to a beloved piece of media. Especially not when the service will remove media on a whim without concern for how the loss of access to that piece will make its artistic conservation nigh impossible.
For example, I recently learned that Disney+ had an original film called Crater. It’s scifi, family friendly, and seems cool - I would love to buy it as a holiday gift for my little brother! But: it’s exclusive to D+ and THEY REMOVED IT LITERALLY MONTHS AFTER ITS RELEASE.
The ONLY way I can directly access this film is through piracy. The ONLY available ‘copies’ of this film are hosted on piracy websites. Disney will NEVER release it in theaters, or as something to buy, and it may NEVER return to the streaming service. It will be LOST because we aren’t allowed to purchase it for personal viewing. If I can’t pay to own it, I won’t pay for the privilege of losing it when corporate decides to put it in a vault.
So yes, I’m going to pirate and support piracy.
Edit: if you are able, use $5 you would otherwise use for a streaming subscription to donate to a GazaFunds campaign.

one of the biggest things I can advocate for (in academia, but also just in life) is to build credibility with yourself. It’s easy to fall into the habit of thinking of yourself as someone who does things last minute or who struggles to start tasks. people will tell you that you just need to build different habits, but I know for me at least the idea of ‘habit’ is sort of abstract and dehumanizing. Credibility is more like ‘I’ve done this before, so I know I can do it, and more importantly I trust myself to do it’. you set an assignment goal for the day and you meet it, and then you feel stronger setting one the next day. You establish a relationship with yourself that’s built on confidence and trust. That in turn starts to erode the barrier of insecurity and perfectionism and makes it easier to start and finish tasks. reframing the narrative as a process of building credibility makes it easier to celebrate each step and recognize how strong your relationship with yourself can become

Bruce (over the phone): How's your first week at college been?
Tim: Awful. I had to say a fun fact about myself at the floor meeting and the only thing I could think of was I went to the same high school as Nightwing. No one fucking knows who that is out here.
Dick (in the background of Bruce's call): Rude.

Also found when wanted to make Prowl or Jazz with bicycle alt, started with Prowl and understood "Wait, I headcanon that Prowl is better at shooting, it's better for him to shoot while riding since he sucks at the rest"

And also. Senator Shockwave is. He is so harmonical in biology scientist setting in my head and according palettes. Like, I don't know, most of the times when I try to imagine him with backgrounds I always look at something alive, green, growing. If I remember correctly in IDW he said that would have liked to be one and explore world. This man could get so much more...
