I think the thing that is most perplexing to me is this insistence that having interactions with deities is somehow a statement of superiority.

tim would have to get a partner completely by accident. as in, he's a regular at a diner and keeps getting the same server - and the server would have to make the first moves. it's not that he doesn't notice if someone's attractive or kind or something, but he idea of romance sounds so...unfair to him? unfair to whoever he's inflicting his life on. fearful of infecting them, etc - so you'd have to be really persistent, or really phenomenal for him to push. LOL. he'd try everything in his power to prevent you getting involved with the forest - which unfortunately makes him a less than ideal partner. wont explain why he's gone for so long besides "work" (which, to be fair, he's a truck driver in my au so its true most of the time). wont explain why he only hangs out with brian. why he's stuck in a shoddy apartment rooming with the same guy from college. why he's stood you up on a few dates. he'll apologize and mean it, trying to make up for it in some gifts and late night drives.

brian is kinda similar, in the sense that he isn't purposefully seeking out a relationship, but if you were to keep bumping into him and flirting every time, he probably couldn't help himself much if he found you attractive. he'll give you his number and entertain you, but he doesn't have intentions to maintain a long-term, serious relationship - HOWEVER, if it got that far, he'd be a bit messier than tim. tim will gladly look like a shitty partner if it protects his s/o, but brian hates that idea. he feels like an asshole and just wants to make you happy and be with you, but fuuuuuck DUTY CaLLS I GUESS. the issue with this is that, while he might come see you more often, he's also coming disheveled. dirty jeans, mysterious gloves, weird red spots, a gun in his backseat - his response to that depends on your nosiness and persistence

toby is. interesting actually im not too sure. honestly i HC that he really does want the whole white-picket-fence family lifestyle, but its a VERY repressed desire. completely buried it. i also HC that he's kinda pathetic when it comes to romance, so he develops short, fleeting crushes and infatuations pretty easily. so dont flirt with him he will get too excited and itll be upsetting when he later drops it. and he's so insecure and drowning in self hatred + trust issues, it's really difficult to get anywhere with him romantically - cos one day he'll be texting nonstop, seem super interested, and the next he's ignoring you or completely dry cos he's convinced you're fucking with him. you gotta start as friends, probably, and just hope he's still interested in friendship if he had a dying crush on you. chances are you find out his job cos he has a breakdown in front of you. prob comes to you already disheveled, bloody, panicking, seeking comfort, begging you not to see him differently. he's the only proxy to completely expose himself - and unlike the others, he will beg you not to go. try to overexplain everything, dig his grave deeper, subtle threats, so on. if you accept him as is, he's elated - stuck to your hip even more than usual. if you tell him you cant, he's livid. he'll leave, but expect calls and him on your doorstep later, telling you to hear him out.

but he'll give up eventually. he can only handle so much humiliation and if he keeps getting rejected, he'll start to hate you - and he doesnt want to. he rather remember you well and hate himself

kate is difficult. getting into a relationship with her is virtually impossible because she just. . has like, no interest ? ok. not no interest. the idea of romance and love doesnt sound bad to her, but she genuinely cannot imagine herself in a relationship - she barely can comprehend she has friends. she cant really do anything for you besides awkwardly sit with you and pick at her nails. and she has a flip phone for calling the others, but she will not text - so unless youre willing to call 5 times before getting a tired "why are you calling me", youre very likely to give up on her.

even if she falls head over heels for someone and cant get them out of her head, she isnt going to call you first or reach out to spend time with you, completely convinced it would just be you doing "charity work" or something stupid she heard from toby's own self deprecation. SO GOOD LUCK. if you manage to make her your partner, she'll finally process that maybe she needs to start behaving differently LOL but be patient. its not that she doesnt love you or think about you, but she'll run through 30 reasons why calling is a bad idea before she settles on "i just wanna hear their voice"

clocky. ok finally someone easier than the proxies or jack. but not easy... clocky isnt exactly against dating, but her standards are very high. one wrong sentence and shes not going to entertain you. her guard is up so , so , so very high and all she wants is to protect her peace, not entertain someone who wont make her life better - even though shes friends with a buncha weirdos who complicate it more, but whatever.

if its by time she's in her tattoo apprenticeship, she's not so opposed to just...getting lunch or coffee with someone. talking, going on a walk, buying them lunch, listening to their day. she sees beauty in the mundane, so she likes to observe mannerisms of someone if she's on a date(but she's prob not even sure its a date) and it would stress her out later on. LOL. she's so focused on her independence and building a life for herself, so it's stressful for her - but she wouldnt take it out on you. she's big on respect, and if you've been good enough to her to reach this point, then she's nver gonna disrespect you by ignoring you or speaking down on you or pretending you're unimportant.

nina is easy to fall for and she's easy to fall in love. you could meet her in any situation, really , and either one of you could be the first to pursue eachother. and i. ok i cant say shes a good girlfriend. she's erratic, hypocrytical, jealous, clingy, etc - it sucks sometimes, but she can be really good provided the chance.

similar to clocky, very easy for her to hide everything - biggest issue would be her inability to keep a secret. she likes to brag and share parts of her life with everyone, so she's always talking about her "totatlly badass friends in the forest" and insisting she sees ghosts, demons, etc - which i mean. shes being honest. thats up to you if you believe her

if you find out everything, she completely expects you to be normal about it. cos why r u being weird she told you already, right?

its now 11/12 in my game and im gambling like crazy in the palace and im here with goro akechi kills people theory: round 2

- so in his and joker's duel, the gun he uses definitely isn't the same one he uses normally. it appears more similar to the gun the man behind the slaughter used to shoot okumura (with his left hand and everything yk yk its all connected)

- as early on as the arcade he was joking about "taking joker out" (🤨🏳️‍🌈) which is exactly whats going on now with the duel and glove and all that. i think that means he's been planning to kill me (joker) for a long time, which makes sense with him lying about when he first went to the metaverse.

- so the biggest problem with this theory is that obviously the guy's mask isnt black like madarame said back in the day. i dont have a very good explanation aside from "ignore that part and it works", but i will mention it so everyone knows i didnt forget that. im also aware that when shooting okumura and in akechi's flashback the killer seems to have a vastly different outfit from akechi. my only defenses are again "go away dont ruin my theory" and also the phantom thieves can change outfits in the metaverse all the time.

- i just thought of something so MAYBE perhaps its based on cognition like our super cool outfits are in the first place. maybe he appears with a different outfit between okumura and sae's palace because, while both seeing him as a threat, okumura knows hes the killer and sees him as such while sae doesnt?? idk this part is literally all speculation i have zero proof

- ok this theory has been building up for a WHILE but i think shido's using him for political gain and ill elaborate on that. first off, i think his goal is to set the phantom thieves up as a huge threat and then very publicly defeat them to give the impression hes saving the people and get voters, effectively putting public trust in him and taking away any suspicion from the murders i think he was doing to anyone he saw as a threat before then.

- akechi works with sae niijima on the SIU (which i cant remember what that means in the slightest), which has a director who has been speaking repeatedly to someone. both of them know what the metaverse is by name, implying him and his mysterious caller are connected to a metaverse user who is obviously the killer (goro akechi is a metaverse user who's been so for at the very least longer than he lets on and is obviously the killer). siu director and the person hes talking to were very much involved with getting that principal killed. the person hes talking to is likely to be someone in power who hates the phantom thieves and that description fits shido.

- not much more evidence for that, ive been cooking up these theories for months so its really easy to forget details and take long held theories as facts when they could always be false. (example: i actually thought the casino was gonna be shido's palace for a LONG time and i was very surprised to learn it wasnt)

Kim and Violette

i never really knew if they were intended to have a something more than friends vibe going on but i choose to believe that maybe they did have feelings for each other but never realised it

have a super supportive relationship nevertheless - romantic or not

and one of the most wholesome in the class, i loved seeing it whenever it came up in-game

kim helps violette go out of her comfort zone and to speak up for herself, that's the most obvious one to us as players

but i feel that violette helped kim put down her 'walls'

kim is a pretty guarded person, we as the main character don't get to learn much about her personal life throughout the whole series even if she does consider us to be friends - we see that kim tries to regain contact when candy is back in town in UL

but idk she seems pretty uncomfortable with letting people into her life, and being vulnerable in general

i feel that violette is one of the only people outside of her family that she confides in

violette is very authentic to herself and doesn't judge, and that made kim feel more comfortable with opening up to her

besides they have history

very long friendship - they give me childhood friends vibes

i just realised this but kim definitely helped her through violette's grief of losing her mother years before mcl canon

even if kim felt lost in helping someone through their grief, she tried to always be there for violette, even if it meant sitting in silence under the tree in the school's courtyard while violette sketched and destroyed many drawings of her mother over and over and then wordlessly stood up to go home after a few hours

violette will forever be greatful for her friendship during that time

and at any time tbh

violette feels a bit lost without kim (e.g when she wanted to cancel on iris´party when kim had to cancel) but she got better at going out to the world by herself because she knew that kim wouldn't be forever with her

even though kim plans on being her friend as long as she can

they defo hang out by themselves outside of school a whole lot

by themselves, because of violette being less comfortable in larger groups and kim enjoying violette's company more than anyone elses

castiel appreciates her because of that, she never pressured him to be the socially acceptable 'friendly' and just let him open up to her by his own terms

over time they grow to have an understanding with each other

hang out every now and then, aren't super besties but they enjoy making plans together

iris loves demon, and since she lives in a neighbourhood near the park she usually makes plans to go on walks with him and castiel

castiel babysat thomas a whole lot - even during his time with deborah

when they were leaving out the door thomas stopped castiel by pulling on his sleeve - he was 7 at most by that time

he still babysits him but iris feels bad asking him to do it too often

obviously he is shocked at first, but after thinking about it he realises that it makes sense that it happened

honestly anyone that knew them the years before candy came into school would get it

it was obvious that they were close-ish, relatively

given that castiel was civilised with her and lys more than anyone else, yea, she's a close friend

amber used to be very nasty towards her out of jealousy, calmed down over the years

iris was also quite supportive during his first breakup with deborah

while lys was a comforting presence whenever he needed some to be quiet near someone, iris offered comforting words when he felt that his world was falling apart

was kinda cold with nath for a while because of the situation, but nath doesn't resent her for it

castiel really appreciates her for that too

they don't hang out nearly as much anymore but they can still get on each other's wavelengths pretty easily

I feel like a genuinely massive amount of gender discourse here - and elsewhere - is trying to grapple with the same idea of "it's pretty clear that even being assigned male, presenting as a man, and even identifying as a man does not necessarily actually stop you from being mistreated by patriarchy" and struggling (often including high hostility to other arguments engaging with the same concept)

Because to me there's like, at least three ways to try and reconcile that:

First, the bell hooksian "men are harmed by patriarchy too" position, one which I'm... probably less hostile to than a lot of people here, but I do still think fails pretty badly?

More accurately i think it's a very vague statement that can be correct by some interpretations, but is often taken in a way where it acts like men are harmed just as much as anyone else, or acts like they don't benefit from the. system made to benefit them.

...Or is very transmisogynistic by framing transmisogyny as, bascially, "trans women are treated like gnc men"

Anyway, with those in mind I do get why people tend to oppose the pithy lines associated with this position. To the point where I expect some would be mad seeing me compare it to the next position, but anyway-

Second, there's framing the whole thing through the need to acknowledge that a lot of the "men" who are mistreated are in fact, not men at all! And so trying to reconcile it by way of saying "actually, when I and/or the transfems I know were mistreated even when presenting male, it's because we always were trans, and people who hurt us could tell something was different."

And while I want to be very clear that I am sympathetic to this position - I get where it comes from, i promise - it's just so... idealist. I just don't think you can like, actually analyze this position and make it work unless you believe that being a trans woman is not only some kind of spiritual essence you're born with, but one that other people can detect.

And of course, it requires you to ignore the idea that someone who really does consider themself a "man" may go through this kind of thing, and also to basically think if someone's self narrative is e.g. "I wasn't born trans, I decided I was trans as an adult." then they're either wrong, not allowed to also go "yeah I was mistreated for gender stuff as a kid", or both.

(Which. well, I frame these as negatives but ime "Yes being trans IS something you're born with, no this kind of experience has literally never once happened to a man and if they think it did they're lying or wrong, and yeah anything but a 'born this way' conception of your gender is just wrong" is like. No yeah a lot of trans people do just think those things. So I guess from that angle it is easy to accept this position.)

And finally there's the third position - which I'm not going to hide, I think actually does resolve it: To think about gender as a whole in a way that at least resembles sizhens's gender ternary. The reason these things happen is because it's never been about "man" or "woman" in the first place! The category of "Power" is largely made of what could be termed "cis men", but that's not a stable position at all, and it's not at all strange to believe one of those "cis men" (or more relevantly - I'll get to it - "cis boys") could be demoted out of power, or to the position of faggot.

In this context there's no need to reconcile "sometimes men are hurt by gender maybe" with "ok but they still benefit" - members of the "power" class being within it at times and outside it at others is a feature of this lens already. People move around on the hierarchy depending on context, that's just how it works.

And similarly there's no need to engage in any kind of idealism to explain the targeting of future trans women, even when they should in theory be considered "boys" (or, of course, to explain trans women who didn't experience that). Gender is a thing that is done to you, not by you. Your internal identity has minimal impact on if you will be placed at the bottom of the heirarchy and subject to faggotization (or, if you prefer, transmisogynization)

I also think like... Maybe I'm wrong, but in my observation it's basically true that a lot of children assigned male experience gendered mistreatment largely arbitrarily, but in adulthood it targets, at the very least, more overt femininity (whether that's transfemininity, homosexuality, or just kind of being a little faggy depends on context a lot, but still). Which makes perfect sense to me, since imo it makes sense to say in many contexts "boys" are not men, and they're already effectively in the not-power class - which is to say, if they're being threatened it's already with being labeled a faggot proper.

(And of course "girls" are also in the not-power class and this kind of threat serves different purposes there - the threat of "act like a man be treated worse than a woman" is different from "accept your subservience as a woman" - but still, the point is I think a child is in a similar position regardless of sex assignment.)

Anyway, I don't have any proper conclusion here. Just some thoughts I've been turning over. At the very least, I think this helps me understand why this whole discourse tends to annoy me from multiple angles?

(and frankly "let me figure out why the fuck this annoys me so much" is part of my motivation for writing most of my long posts, so. Y'know.)

this is based on what i remember after reading the book

Mocking bird pin: Madge gave it but they showed some random woman giving it to Katniss, which she gave to prim, she prim gave to her.

Gale was supposed to hunt with her, collect berries which they will then sell to the greesy sally and strawberries to the mayor. Which shows that they've known the woods deeply.

Also, the strawberry scene shows that despite the mayor having an idea of the rule breaking, didn't punish them for it, even buying the fruit. Which helps shape how district 12 was like, that despite their situation, the mayor and the peacekeepers arent all that strict, compared to other districts in future references (Rue's situation when the boy who stole the special night glasses and the peacekeepers killed him.)

They didn't include the scene with Gale going to Katniss's house which shows their deep friendship.

The fact that they cut Gale's scene in the woods, they didn't show how free they seemed in the woods, despite breaking the rule.

They removed MADGE from the damn movie.

They didnt add effies comment about Katniss not wanting her sister to steal the spotlight or smth, adds to the fact the capitol views them as entertainment and how they act like the districts should thank them for the opportunity to be sent to an arena to kill and be killed.

They just made Katniss and Gale hug, cutting out the entire drama of "I have something to tell you-" gets interrupted BOOM ANGST

They removed Peeta's father promising to take care of prim, of feeding her. That's literally what assured Katniss that they'll be fine. That "they'll be gale and a baker who promised to keep her fed" and when they removed the baker? they removed the cookie scene and her throwing it out. because for so long it had been mentioned so many darn times that katniss didnt like owing people, so when the baker gives her cookies, she throws it out because she couldnt handle the weight that comes along with them essentially owing peeta too.

The scene with Effie where she comments on their manners because it showed that the capitol couldn't care less should the people starve, but when the last tributes who were starving and saw the menagerie of dishes, of course theyll forget their manners.

The haymitch scene. Where katniss throws the knife and it accidentally delved between the wedges and I quote "making me look better than i actually am" and Haymitch commented "well looks like i actually got a pair of fighters this year"

Peeta didn't punch Haymitch or try to "suck up" because it showed the indepth character, or his desperation to survive

the holding hands scene. It was supposed to be cinna signing it, katniss asking peeta what he said, peeta saying oh hold hands probably, katniss going like oh ok, boom hold hands. not fricking yank it away because someone's supposed to notice.

they also removed the fact that katniss clenched his hand because she was nervous. in the movie they made it like she had no problem lying, acting, but in the book, she had the hardest time trying to keep her smile, but with peeta by her side, she was able to be at least charming, catching a rose while the crowd went crazy trying to catch the kiss she sent in their direction.

they removed cinna saying "the girl on fire" or smth like thatwhen she was talking about the costime actually tthis is unsure i forgot some parts here/

it all comes to head when jamie t’s dad relapses and roy’s out with jamie c.

jamie (t) has called roy a couple times that night but after the 3rd call in a row, roy puts his phone on silent. jamie’s been “a moody little bitch lately” roy explains to jamie c, cranky and snapping at roy. roy’s assumes jamie’s either calling him to apologise for their argument earlier that day or to yell at him some more… he doesn’t realise how wrong he is until he comes home.

flushed from just the right amount of beer, arm slung around jamie c as they stumble towards the front door, laughing hysterically at each others stupid jokes. he doesn’t notice jamie t sitting on the front steps until the security light flicks on.

he sobers the moment his eyes meet jamie’s bloodshot ones. his gaze drifting to bruise sitting colourfully over jamie’s left eye.

“jamie what the fuck happened” roy steps forward shucking off jamie c to reach his jamie.

jamie won’t look at him “i called you 8 times” he mumbles, sniffling and wiping the blood and snot from his nose.

when roy finally tries to reach for him, jamie flinches back. roy reeks of stale beer… he smells exactly like his dad.

this fic would need to be hurt/comfort because i can’t deal with unhappy endings! but honestly dealers choice!

also let’s not paint jamie carragher as the bad guy in this fic! he’s just a hot unknowing bystander who didn’t realise how messy these boys are.
