A lil something for my fellow BBC Merlin fans out there: imagine a fic written from the POV of Cedric from the Curse of Cornelius Sigan episode…
As a thief, Cedric is willing to go to any lengths to get his hands on valuable riches. So when he has to infiltrate the castle and gain Prince Arthur’s trust, so be it.
He manages to get under Arthur’s wing by humiliating the Prince’s servant, Merlin. It’s easy enough; the boy's an absolute moron. But it amazes Cedric that, even in the boy's absence, the Prince will not stop talking about him.
Granted, it's mostly insults, but it gets old nonetheless. With the Prince, it's always, “Merlin this," and "Merlin that." Cedric can't wait to get his hands on the key to the tomb so he can pillage the treasure and get out of Camelot.
Finally, Cedric sees his plan coming together when he stages an accident in the stables and blames it on Merlin. He suggests to the angry Prince that, "Merlin’s tired." He wasn’t confident about this part, but somehow, it convinced Arthur to give Merlin the day off.
With the oddly perceptive boy out of the way, Cedric is granted the position of Arthur’s manservant for the rest of the day. This is perfect, considering Cedric’s plan is going along nicely, but there's a downside; now, he has to listen to even more Merlin talk.
"I don't see why he can't just take care of himself. It’s a basic human function," Arthur grumbles as Cedric serves him dinner.
"I mean, is it really that difficult to get a full night's sleep?" the Prince mutters from the bath while Cedric waits patiently for orders.
"And don't even get me started on his personal hygiene!" Arthur groans as he gets ready for bed. "I mean, really! Is he so exhausted that he can't even spare a few minutes to bathe?"
"Yes, my lord," Cedric repeats for the billionth time. He cannot wait until he never has to say those words again. Will this royal prat of a Prince ever shut up about his servant? It’s just strange—they’re strange.
Arthur heaves a sigh, plucking his keys off his waist and tucking them into his bedside drawer, mumbling something about incompetence. To Cedric, he was beginning to sound like an irritated housewife.
It isn’t long before Arthur’s grumbles are replaced with snores, and Cedric launches to action. He plucks the keys from the bedside drawer and creeps toward the door, but not before staring down at the unconscious Prince. Considering how easy it had been for Cedric to pull this off, Prince Arthur doesn’t seem like a very capable ruler. If he can’t even keep his keys safe, how can he protect an entire kingdom?
Although, as Arthur rolls over and murmurs an all-too familiar name in his sleep, Cedric considers the importance of a lowly servant. It’s a position of great trust (which is probably why Arthur didn’t think twice about falling asleep with a stranger in his room). A person this close to the Prince during his personal moments is expected to assist in the mundane—like making sure his belongings are kept safe while he sleeps, for example.
Cedric allows that, given the treatment Prince Arthur is used to, the man might not expect betrayal from his servant.
Cedric thinks about the Prince’s real servant, doing who-knows-what after that stables incident. Merlin had caught onto him unusually quickly. Normally, Cedric has a few days before anyone suspects him.
It’s odd, the close attention Merlin paid—not just to Cedric, but to Arthur. Almost as though he wishes to protect him, but how could a servant protect the strongest knight in Camelot?
The boy had seemed a bit too devoted to his Prince… Cedric wonders what that’s all about.
Well, no matter now. It’s time to get rich.
Cedric stalks out of the room.

If you have already talked about this, I apologize, but what do you think about this scene ?
I don't remember the context, but it's quite heartbreaking that Merlin makes it into a joke, knowing fully well there's the possibility of Arthur dying.
Oh yay! A Merthur question! I've referred to it in the past but I haven't spoken it about it specifically. From a previous post:
but this moment:
I love this moment so much because Arthur is doing his best to be stoic, to show as little concern as possible because as he said in season 2:
but for one second when he clenches his jaw and sort of inhales, he’s about to break, his emotion is about to overwhelm him and he’s trying to hold it together but Merlin keeps asking to stay by his side, to just be with him and it’s making it hard for him to concentrate on being emotionless so he just ends up bickering with Merlin because he’s worried and upset and scared and can’t Merlin just do what he’s told and get better??
Um, the context is actually pretty loaded because this is the episode Merlin finds Balinor, and obviously Arthur doesn't know that Balinor is Merlin's father just that he's the [apparent] last dragonlord that will help them but Balinor dies so Merlin's going through the emotional rollercoaster of having met his dad for the first time and then losing him pretty immediately afterwards
with Arthur being there for the whole thing but without knowing what's actually happening. He's focused on the fate of Camelot and so he thinks his only chance of saving his kingdom is gone
so when we get to the scene, Arthur thinks he's going on kind of a fool's errand riding out to meet Kilgharrah
and he's actually trying to prepare Merlin for the event of his death
like you see him think about how Merlin would react to him dying
and he's asking him not to be sad, don't grieve for me, don't cry for me because he doesn't like the thought of Merlin in pain especially in pain over him and it's this very patient, protective, he's-a-gentle-soul kind of conclusion and reasoning
and it's not that he wants him to be hardened, he wants him to understand that these things happen and he just wants him to be OK and he communicates that by saying that he tells young knights to move on
and when Merlin makes that crack, it's sweet because it really just speaks to the intimacy of the moment
that he tries to deflect by cracking a joke like 'haha, you don't even mean that much to me, bro!'
"Anyway, let's go fight a dragon together because I'm never leaving your side!"
which actually begets another vulnerable moment
that Arthur kind of backs away from because WHOA that's some direct intimacy there, bro
[after quietly reveling in awe of how brave he finds Merlin just seconds before]
so, another joke because HAHA WE'RE JUST TWO BROS WHO ARE INTENSELY DEVOTED TO EACH OTHER
PLAYFUL-THANKS-BRO PUNCH
These fucking dorks.

Merlin 2x12, The Fires of Idirsholas
This did not go as I expected.
Merlin actually poisoned Morgana. Oh my gods. I'm shocked. I mean, I know he's a slitherin (Arthur's a griffindor obv) but WHAT???
I gotta remind myself that Morgana and Morgause are sisters cause like. I wouldn't think that.
I hate that Morgana will probably think of Merlin as the friend who betrayed her... I hate iiiiiiiiiiiit. I wished so hard that they talked, that Merlin told her he's a sorcerer, that he told her she was the catalyst of the sleeping spell and gave her the choice to drink the poison. But alas, Morgana has to go completely dark, so I guess this is another big step in that direction.
Also, I knew the dragon would be freed before the end of the second season, but I expected it to be the last episode (second to last is not that earlier, but it came as a surprise anyway).
Little Merthur moment at the beginning when Arthur said to Merlin to escape and leave him to fight the Knights of Medhir and Merlin choosing to stay.
#i'm back baby#I wanted to keep watching episodes but work and life in general leaves me with not enough time to do what I want#bbc merlin#merlin rewatch#merlin emrys#morgana#merthur#merlin season 2

I feel like season four and five of Merlin were overshadowed by an ever growing sense of doom to a ruinous extent. There were no joyful moments. Not really. Gwen gets banished (which was a terrible plot point), Lancelot is already dead, Arthur is king but nothing has changed. It is all a snowballing rising dread that coalesces in the finale and I don't know if it's tragically beautiful or just terrible.
But what do y'all think?

Sigan could’ve been a season’s big boss villain. I can't believe he was just a filler character in one episode
He was the most powerful wizard who has ever lived, before Merlin.
He cheated death. I also love the idea they say about the legend of Sigan helping build Camelot itself. The lore was insane.
This man could have build several secret rooms through the castle that Merlin goes to look for throughout the season, either after Sigan had been thwarted and just out of curiosity to see that’s in them, or as a way of finding how to defeat Sigan once and for all if Sigan was still around during the season.
A wasted character who could have been a long term character in the background.

Is it just me or is the beginning of Season 2 just so funky??
Like Arthur decides to swap his entire identity because he got offended no-one wanted to kill him and steals Gwen's bed in the process, Uther marries a troll?? Lancelot comes back, 3 couples fall in love, approximately 60 thousand people die (from either magic gargoyles or magic-related genocide), gay people eyefuck each other for 13 more episodes etc...
#bbc merlin#merlin#merthur#uther pendragon#merlin season 2#BBC Producer#drunk as shit: You know what would be REALLY FUNNY

The perfect remedy for a dreary day. Anthony Stewart Head snogging a Troll in Merlin.
They don't make shows like Merlin anymore, even though Percy Jackson is a close contender.
