Severanceâs Dichen Lachman Gets Inside Gemmaâs Head
âI definitely think she doesnât want to be down there,â the actress says of her mysterious character, âand I donât think Gemma would volunteer to be severed.â
[Spoilers ahead.]
For three long years, Severance fans were left clinging to two words at the end of the season 1 finale: âSheâs alive!â In that thrilling scene, protagonist Mark S. (Adam Scott)âwho underwent the severance procedure that separates his working self (âInnieâ) from his personal self (âOutieâ) after his wife Gemma (Dichen Lachman) diedâdesperately tries to tell his sister that Gemma isnât dead after all. As we, and Markâs Innnie, found out in season 1, Gemma is still very much alive and wandering the stark white halls of Lumon Industries as the wellness director Ms. Casey.
In season 2, we finally get some answers about Gemmaâs journey. The seventh episode, titled âChikhai Bardo,â chronicles her relationship with Mark, showing their meet-cute while donating blood, their happy life as college professors, and a devastating miscarriage that changes their marriage. The episode directed by Jessica Lee GagnĂ© (who primarily works on the show as a cinematographer) jumps through time, flashing between these intimate moments between the couple and rare glimpses into where Gemma is now. Sheâs kept like a prisoner on Lumonâs testing floor and is forced to repeatedly enter rooms where she faces bizarre situations like writing thank-you cards on Christmas or riding an airplane amid turbulence. (Viewers might recognize the names of those rooms as the projects that Mark is working on with the Macrodata Refinement team.)
While Severance is known for its fan theories and mind-boggling sci-fi elements, Mark and Gemmaâs love for each other is deep in the showâs core. It was crucial to Lachman that audiences âunderstand why Mark did what he did [to become severed], to feel the loss of that relationship,â she told ELLE.com over a Zoom call. While she didnât feel comfortable speculating on the meaning of the seventh episode titleâthe chikhai bardo is a Buddhist belief about a transitional state between death and rebirth, which could point to reintegration for both Mark and Gemmaâshe did agree that the severance procedure is all about transforming, something both characters are grappling with throughout the series.
So whyâand howâis Gemma at Lumon and what is going on with the rooms on the testing floor? Will she ever be able to escape, especially after we witness a failed attempt in âChikhai Bardoâ? Lachman spoke to us about what she thinks is going on at the company, her layered performance, and how she and Adam Scott established their chemistry in this standout episode.
This is the first time we really see Mark and Gemma together. How did you and Adam Scott create and establish your chemistry?
Adam is just such a generous actor. Up to this point, I was sort of left out, so for me it was like, I gotta get in, I gotta deliver, and Iâve got to be absolutely on point. Adam went out of his way to make me feel comfortable, and I think that that chemistry is there because of his generosity. Also the writing helps and Jessica really did a wonderful job framing it. Severance is in a very controlled, oppressive, and symmetrical setting, but this episode had so much more movement and was so much freer. With the combination of the medium and style changing a little bit, Adamâs generosity, and obviously all the other departments who were so integral in telling the story, that all helped make everything just click and feel really lived-in.
This episode reveals how Mark and Gemma coped with the grief of a miscarriage. How did it feel to portray that as part of Gemmaâs story?
I thought it was a really important story to tell, because itâs such a common thing that women go through. A lot of women feel very isolated when that happens to them, so it was nice to be able to represent that story even when itâs not the most important part of the show. I appreciated that, and because two men [Dan Erickson and Mark Friedman] were writing the scripts, they were open to input from Jessica and myself in terms of delicately playing with the balance of that.
Blood was a recurring motif in the episode: Mark and Gemma meet while donating blood, Gemma suffers a miscarriage, and a Lumon employee pricks her finger to gain access to the various rooms. Blood can represent a lot of things, from life and death to family. What do you think it symbolizes in Gemmaâs story?
Thatâs something that I hadnât thought about, but perhaps itâs a reminder that weâre all human. If you prick us, do we not bleed?
Your performance had to be nuanced when balancing the different versions of Gemma. How did you keep all of it straight?
That was really tricky. I used my body to transition into the given circumstances. We donât get to spend a lot of time with these Innies; itâs just part of the the torture Gemmaâs subjected to everyday. There are a lot of rooms down there, and weâre only seeing the Christmas room and the airplane, but what else could possibly be down there thatâs even darker than that? The Innies donât really understand the outside world, so I leaned into the circumstance that each Innie had a different physicality. I would be in a position of fear or boredom or a rebellious teenager. It was subtly working on the physicality, and internally figuring out what that Innie was going through.
Do you remember any specific direction you got from director Jessica Lee Gagné?
Specifically with the Christmas scene, it was that adolescence and that defiance, and we went from internalizing that to getting quite angry with [Doctor, played by Robby Benson]. [Gagné] really wanted to test scenes in lots of different ways, so we had the time to go through such a spectrum of intensities.
One of the big themes of the season is the consciousness of the Innie vs. the Outie. Do you think your Innies are fully aware of whatâs happening to them within Lumonâs walls?
I wonder about that tooâmaybe it depends on how much time is spent as that Innie. But also everyone reacts to things differently. Like, ibuprofen will really affect me but my friend will pop them whenever they have a bad back. Itâs got to be the same thing. I feel like if youâre going to get a chip in the back of your head, the length of time of it being there and the amount of time spent as that person has to affect [the experience].
Why do you think Gemma signed up for this program at Lumon?
That is still a mystery to me. But youâll notice that theyâre living in a Lumon worldâeverything they come in contact with is Lumon branded. The card that she's looking at in the mail in this episode is from Lumon, the Christmas tree in their house is reminiscent of the Christmas tree in the Christmas room. So thereâs some bigger involvement in terms of this town and this world. The possibilities are endless.
What are they trying to get from Gemma by putting her into these rooms and having her experience these different scenarios?
In our society, we have this desire to avoid anything unpleasant. I think Lumon is trying to develop a chip so that no one ever has to experience anything unpleasant, like going to a job they donât like or giving birth or going to the dentist, like we see Gemma do in this episode. Our society is going in a direction where we donât want to experience or feel anything unpleasant, and this is a way of shutting all of that out. But I would probably never get this severance chip because you canât experience joy, fun, pleasure, or leisure without the contrast of the things that you donât like.
Do you think she regrets signing up for whatever is happening inside the Lumon walls?
She definitely doesnât want to be there. Youâll notice in the flashbacks that the doctor is present in the fertility clinic, he walks by in the background. So I definitely think she doesnât want to be down there, and I donât think Gemma would volunteer to be severed.
The doctor tells her that Mark remarried and has a daughter now; Gemma responds by hitting the doctor on the head with a chair. Why do you think she doesnât believe their manipulation?
Itâs funny that you bring that up, because we did that scene a few different ways. Iâm glad they chose the one where sheâs not affected, because it shows her resilience. Down there, time moves at a different pace, and in the episode before, [Severance] alludes to the fact that she broke [the doctorâs] fingers at one pointâI think that thatâs why Jessica wanted a little bit of that rebelliousness to come out in that Christmas scene. Because even if you compartmentalize the pain, thereâs going to be qualities that end up in these Innies.
Gemmaâs severed personality, Ms. Casey, appears when she tries to escape and winds up on the severed floor. Ms. Casey seems to sense that something was amiss and it felt like a glimpse of Gemmaâs consciousness was pushing through there. Did you read that scene like that as well?
Yes. Ms. Casey is wearing a completely strange outfit, she doesnât have her hair, and sheâs kind of confused. The last time she was in that hallway, it was to say goodbye, and she wasnât given any answers. So sheâs a little bit like, Oh, Iâm coming back, but it feels different because sheâs just been through something. That was a tricky one to film because I also wondered, would she physically have a little bit of that adrenaline from escaping running through her and maybe that's why she feels a little weird?
How many times do you think this cycle has happened, where Gemma tries to escape but gets stuck in the loop of exiting on the severed floor?
I want to believe that it happened many times, and that she just doesnât give upâevery now and then sheâs like, Iâm just gonna go for it again. Maybe this time itâll work. To me, sheâs been trying to get out of there since the moment she got in.

Hidden Agenda (2023) // The Heart Killers (2024)
#please don't forget the kluendao contribution to this concept#i actually think fadel looks closer to kluen than joke in terms of expression (and also has more in common in terms of personality)#which is why when fadel started showing affection it really really made me think of kluen who has my whole entire heart forever#but in all his roles Joong always manages to look so freaking SOFT when he smiles like this#the way heâll deliver his lines while resting his chin on Dunks shoulder#like his character subconsciously is refusing to break the point of contact#the way theyâll make eye contact in scenes like this kills me every. single. time!!#thereâs so much good communication going on on multiple levels#both as characters (affection; acceptance; longing) and as actors (comfort; reassurance; support)#also I think the reason this always gets to me is that Joongâs character is almost always being cajoling in this moment#and itâs just really adorable because itâs a break away from the norm for his character as well as a breaking of that character's âcontrolâ#of himself or a sign that they're overcoming their inability to communicate what they're feeling about Dunk's character#I have such a special soft spot for this specific thing (chin on shoulder) and specifically when JD do it đâ€ïž#joongdunk#jokezo#fadelstyle#kluendao#hidden agenda#the heart killers#star in my mind

Okay so on Astarion, I was reading this fic about him not knowing Tavs true intentions with him and it bothering Astarion a lot, so what if he goes to some mage or magic user and asks them to show Tavs true intentions to him, when he does the vision he sees is just... being snuggled. It's Tav on top of him and the both of you are falling asleep, his hands are under your shirt softly petting your skin as your sleepy self is contently snuggled up to him. I just start crying about him finding out that Tavs DASTARDLY and EVIL plan with him, their greatest desire from him... is to simply be held. đ„ș
Hi @goblin-creatcher! Thank you so much for this BEAUTIFUL prompt. I, uhh, kind of took it and went a million miles an hour with it. This is honestly one of my favorite things I've ever written. I hope you enjoy it as well! xoxoxo

Summary: Astarion has been suspicious of Tavâs true intentions toward him. He persuades Gale to cast a spell and reveal her motivations. ANGST and FLUFF ensue. A rewriting of Astarionâs confession scene from Act 2.
The sun had just begun to set on the campsite when Astarion decided to put his plan into action. He had waited until Tav departed with some of the other party members before making his way over to the wizard. Gale was too busy reassembling the bookshelf inside his tent to notice Astarionâs approach. It wasnât until he gave a polite cough that Gale jumped and whirled to face him.Â
âNo, no, no,â he began all at once, hands raised in a sort of shooing motion. Astarion stared at him in confusion. âI can respect Tavâs indulging in your need for blood, but as Iâve said before: I taste terrible.âÂ
Astarion scoffed. âCharming. Actually, wizard, I was coming to request your aid in a different, though somewhat related, matter.â
âReally? Care to elaborate?â Gale responded, still somewhat wary. It wasnât often he found himself alone with the vampire.Â
âTesty, I see,â Astarion crooned teasingly. His knee-jerk response to people treating him like a monster, to behave in the most false saccharine sort of way.Â
But he drew up short, censoring himself before saying anything else he might regret. He knew he needed to get on the wizardâs good side if he had any chance of getting the answers he sought.Â
âI was hoping you knew a spell to reveal someoneâs true intentions. Their⊠motivations for behaving in a certain way, so to speak,â he finished more seriously.Â
Gale pondered the question for a moment before answering.Â
âHmm⊠yes, there is magic to determine that sort of thing⊠Although itâs been some time since I practiced itâŠâ He trailed off, rubbing his chin in thought.Â
âWhy are you asking for such a thing?â he asked suddenly.Â
Astarion had been prepared for this question, of course. No one did anything for free, no questions asked. He delivered his explanation perfectly, as heâd been rehearsing in his mind.
âOne might say our dear sweet Tav and I have been growing a bit⊠closer these days, but I can sense a master manipulator when I see one. I just simply want to ensure their intentions toward me - toward the party - are true,â he replied with mock innocence.Â
âAh, yes,â Gale nodded. âI gathered as much when the two of you slipped away from the tieflingâs party a few nights ago.âÂ
âBut,â he continued on,âI neednât think you should worry when it comes to Tav. She seems about as transparent as they come. Iâm sure any intentions she has toward you are true.â
Yes, but the best actors always mask their motivations behind innocence and transparency, Astarion thought to himself. I should know. Iâve been doing it for centuries.
After the partyâs unfortunate meeting with that Gur in the Sunlit Wetlands, Astarion realized he would have to take potential threats from Cazador even more seriously. He wasnât about to lose his freedom, not now that he finally had some small taste of it.Â
It didnât hurt to be more suspicious of everyone he encountered, even the sweetling Tav. Anyone could be an operative sent by Cazador, and the best ones would be as skilled as he was in the art of manipulation. It was well-known at this point that the person heâd grown the closest to on their journey was their brave party leader, Tav. Unlikely as it may be that she was scheming for his master, Astarionâs paranoia wouldnât let him indulge in interactions with her a second longer unless he knew how she truly felt.Â
Given Galeâs hesitation, Astarion knew he would have to kick his acting up a notch. Press on that wizardâs heartstrings. Touch the one nerve he knew he was sensitive to.
âGale, darling, from one literally damaged soul to another, indulge me just this once,â Astarion beseeched him.Â
The wizard glared at him a moment, before finally relenting with a heavy sigh. âFine. Fine. But I want it known that I donât agree with this so-called solution one whit,â he grumbled, pinching the bridge of his nose.Â
âYes, yes, noted and formally documented, on my word as a former Baldurian magistrate,â Astarion replied cheerily. âSo, letâs hop to it then, shall we?â
âWhat, right now?â Gale asked, shocked. âShouldnât we be, I donât know, a little less conspicuous?âÂ
âWhat better time than now?â Astarion responded. âTavâs out gathering firewood with Wyll and Karlach. They wonât be back for some time. As for Laeâzel and Shadowheart, wellâŠâ he paused, gesturing over his shoulder.Â
Said two were engaged in a heated sparring session on the outskirts of the camp. Snarls and curses could be heard emanating from both warriors as they tried, and failed, to gain the upper hand against their opponent.
âThat loversâ dance could go on until morning,â Astarion finished.Â
âFair point,â Gale admitted begrudgingly, grimacing at the sound of swords clashing violently. âVery well. Letâs get started.âÂ
Clearing his throat, Gale began to utter a series of phrases completely foreign to Astarion. He watched as the wizard began moving his hands in a wavelike pattern, forming a circle before them. Suddenly, a mist began to form from seemingly thin air, taking shape according to the boundaries Galeâs hands were creating. The mist grew more and more opaque until it appeared before them like a clouded mirror.Â
As the fogginess of the ethereal magic began to clear, the âmirrorâ became a confusing blur of scenes whipping by, too fast for Astarion or Gale to really comprehend. There were flashes of Tav and Astarion, together and separate, but they disappeared too quickly to ascertain their context. It was as though the spell was shuffling through the entirety of Tavâs thoughts, assessing each one at breakneck speed.Â
Finally, the spell slowed to a halt, stopping on one scene in particular. Astarion was struck speechless by what began playing out in the foggy portal before them. So distracted, he didnât even notice Galeâs tight cough, or how the wizard suddenly became intensely interested in a copse of trees nearby, rather than the revelation the spell was revealing.
Not that the scene was especially profound, objectively speaking. In fact, to anyone else, it might be viewed as the least revelatory thing possible that the spell could have shown. Boring. Inconsequential, even. But to Astarion, it was almost earth shattering.Â
He saw himself - he could see his face! - with Tav, lying tangled together in some immaculate four-poster bed.Â
That was the first shock that coursed through him, nearly causing his knees to buckle. He was seeing himself for the first time in over 200 years. Or at least, he was seeing himself as Tav saw him. And⊠the person he saw⊠Well, he was gorgeous. White blonde locks, curled and tousled in a devil-may-care sort of way. A strong, patrician nose that suggested good breeding. High, sharp cheekbones. Full lips, upturned in a thoughtless grin. Red eyes bordered by long, sweeping lashes. Delicately pointed elven ears. Smooth alabaster skin, without blemish or spot.Â
Astarion could scarcely believe his own eyes.Â
The second shock to his system was the nature of their activities. He would have been less surprised had the vision shown them fucking. Him taking her roughly from behind perhaps. His name a cry of ecstasy from her lips as he pistoned in and out of her with a feral sort of determination.Â
Fantasies of lust, of total domination, now those were things he was familiar with inspiring in the minds of the victims he had taken as lovers. It was what he strove for, in all honesty. Desire like that all but ensured he would capture his prey and live to serve another day for his master.Â
But nothing of the sort was occurring between vision-Tav and himself. Instead, they were just⊠embracing? What in sweet hells was this?
She lay halfway on top of him. Her hair was mussed, perhaps from sleep or perhaps from previous lovemaking. One hand was drawing absentminded shapes across his chest, her lips trailing behind, leaving kisses in their wake. He watched as vision-Astarion chuckled softly, as his hands slipped beneath her sleepshirt to caress her waist, as he placed an innocent kiss on the top of Tavâs head. Eventually, she reached for his hand. They both watched their fingers intertwine, blissfully content.
It was the purest, unadulterated expression of affection that Astarion had ever seen. Something in his heart quaked at the sight of it. He wanted that moment. He envied, he hated, vision-Astarion for enjoying such apparent happiness.
So absorbed in the vision and its implications, Astarion failed to notice the soft padding of feet that indicated someoneâs re-entry into the camp.Â
âIf the two of you are quite finished poking around in my head,â an angry voice suddenly spat from behind them, âIâd appreciate you preserving what little privacy I have left and shutting that damn spell off.â
Mortified, Astarion and Gale turned to see Tav, arms crossed and visibly seething with rage. Gale quickly dispelled the magic with a flick of his wrist. A blush was slowly but surely rising up Tavâs neck to reach her cheeks. Whether from rage or embarrassment, Astarion couldnât be certain.Â
âTav, let us explain-â Astarion started.
âIt was his idea-â Gale blurted at the same time, pointing at Astarion.Â
Both paused, glaring at one another. But Tav would have none of their feeble attempts at backpedaling.Â
âThe explanation doesnât matter. Whose idea it was doesnât matter. The fact is that both of you violated the privacy of my mind, which Iâll remind you, has ALREADY been violated by having a bloody tadpole forced inside of it!â Tav shouted. At their words, the camp became enveloped in a heavy silence. Even the crickets ceased their chirping.
Astarion cringed inwardly, knowing the other party members could plainly hear this altercation and had likely stopped whatever it was that they had been doing to listen in. He noted the sounds of swords clanging together had ceased. He was certain Laeâzel and Shadowheart at least were aware of what was happening. Nosy bastards, all of them.
But what disturbed him even more was the realization that Tavâs eyes were welling with tears. She was too proud to acknowledge them or wipe them away. Such was her nature. But they were there nonetheless, and the knowledge that Astarion had brought her to the point of tears was enough to spur a rush of utter self-loathing inside him.
Without another word, Tav turned on her heel and marched stiffly out of camp, toward the direction of a nearby creek theyâd identified as a water source earlier in the day.
âI canât believe I let you convince me to perform that spell,â Gale said as she disappeared between the trees. He dragged his hands down his face.Â
âHow could we have been so doltish, forgetting that all of our privacies have already been violated with this tadpole business?â
Astarion didnât have an answer to that. At least, not one the wizard could possibly understand.Â
The thought hadnât occurred to Astarion, he realized, because violations of privacy had been something so intrinsic to his being for over 200 years. He didnât even recognize it as something abnormal. Like a fish unaware that the water surrounding it is, in fact, water.Â
Violations of privacy were a part of life, at least for him. So much so that his request for Gale to perform that magic hadnât even occurred to him as an overstepping of boundaries. To Astarion, it had simply been a matter of survival. He had needed to know another potentially manipulative personâs true intentions, and so he had found a means to uncover it and maintain the upper hand.Â
Belatedly, he also realized that Galeâs hesitation to cast the spell had had nothing to do with being inconvenienced for the evening, but because the wizard had known that it was improper to do to another person. If he had misread that, Astarion wondered, then what other truly benevolent behaviors had he mistaken as pragmatic manipulation?
âI need to go find her,â Astarion murmured, clenching and unclenching his fists in an uncharacteristic fit of uncertainty.Â
âYes, you do,â Gale asserted. âWe both owe her a sincere apology⊠if sheâll even accept it.â
âIâll see if I can convince her to come back to camp,â Astarion replied, making to leave in the direction Tav had stormed off.Â
âWait,â Gale said, a hand on his shoulder. Astarion turned to meet his gaze.Â
âLook, well, Iâm obviously not an expert in healthy demonstrations of affection. But I do think itâs obvious from what you saw in that spell that Tav well and truly cares about you. In perhaps the purest way possible. Treat that carefully.â
Part of Astarion wanted to laugh aloud in utter hopelessness at the wizardâs advice. Someone cared for him? Truly and purely? No hidden games, no strings attached? Oh certainly, that wouldnât be a problem for Astarion at all. Obviously, his 200-year existence as a master-manipulator-fetch-hound for a power-hungry vampire lord had perfectly prepared him to respond to this situation in a healthy manner. Obviously.
But all that was too much to reveal to someone he barely knew and too heavy to say aloud. Rather than giving some smarmy retort, Astarion opted instead to give a stiff nod and continue walking toward the edge of camp. He had no idea how he could make things right with Tav, but at the very least he could try.Â
***
He found Tav sitting on a fallen tree near the edge of the creek bed. Her legs were drawn up to her chest, arms wrapped around them as she rested a cheek to her knees. In the waning twilight, she reminded Astarion of some misbegotten gargoyle perched on the roof of a temple, solitary and so very sad.Â
Her ears twitched as she noted his arrival. Astarion wasnât trying to be stealthy. On top of everything else, the last thing he needed to do was scare her.Â
âCan I join you?â he asked softly, wincing to himself at the awkwardness of the question.Â
The reality was that there was no way to broach this conversation without some stilted beginning, and he hated it. Navigating tricky conversations was normally something he excelled at. But as he was quickly finding, when it related to Tav, nothing in his past life had prepared him to respond to her well.Â
âIf youâd like,â Tav answered tonelessly.Â
Knowing it was probably the best response he was going to get, Astarion swallowed thickly and moved to sit down on the log next to her.Â
âI⊠wanted to⊠apologize for what you saw, back at camp,â he began.
âApologize for doing it, or apologize for getting caught?â Tav asked as she turned her head to look at him, resting her other cheek on her knees.Â
Astarion balked at the question. Her piercing gaze unnerved him. He hadnât really thought that far.Â
âBoth, I suppose?â he answered honestly, although it sounded more like a question to Tav. She huffed a laugh.
âYou know, part of me really wants to yell at you. Scream in your face. Tell you off proper,â she mused.
âSo why donât you?â Astarion asked, perplexed.Â
Tav didnât respond at first, just sat there studying him. As if by staring at him long enough, she could project the answer into his mind.Â
Astarion didnât interrupt her, much as he would have liked to. Part of him always bristled when people gazed at him for too long. It was unfair that they could study him, when he hadnât been able to so much as glance at his reflection in over 200 years.Â
Finally, Tav released a heavy sigh, her body curling further in on itself. She closed her eyes as she spoke.
âBecause then I would be just like every other bastard in your life whoâs mistreated you.â
Astarion flinched in surprise. Those had not been the sort of words heâd been expecting. The truth of them cut deeper than had she raged at him like she wanted to. It left him feeling even more vulnerable, and that in turn made him want to retreat into the comfort of viciousness.
âI donât need you to pull any punches,â he scoffed, glaring at her. âGo ahead and say what you will.â
She straightened up at his tone, opening her eyes and returning his glare.Â
âNo. I donât want to,â she said testily.
âI donât need your pity,â he hissed. âItâs insulting.â
âGods damn it all, Astarion!â Tav exclaimed suddenly, causing him to jump in surprise. She threw her hands up in defeat. âIâm not doing anything out of pity! I donât want to rage at you, because I know that whatever I say right now, I wonât mean it come the morning!â
Astarion blinked. Once again he was left feeling flat footed by the turn of the conversation. Sensing his surprise, Tav continued on with her deluge of words.
âYou hurt me tonight, and Iâm angry at you - and at Gale, for that matter - for what you did. But youâve shared enough of your⊠history⊠with me, that I realize your behavior is just⊠just a byproduct of centuries of abuse and manipulation youâve endured! And I wonât be another abuser in your life. I wonât,â she asserted.Â
Astarion continued staring at her, as if she were some otherworldly creature that had just wandered across his path. He watched as Tav inhaled a deep breath, releasing it shakily. She turned away from him to peer out into the forest, uncertain. She opened and closed her mouth several times before actually speaking. As if whatever she was about to say was more intimidating to her than anything else sheâd said tonight.Â
âI⊠care deeply for you, Astarion,â she said quietly. âYou obviously saw that in the vision. Iâm not playing any games. Thereâs no hidden motive. Iâm not trying to manipulate you.â
She turned to look at him again before continuing, her breathing a bit unsteady.Â
âI didnât sleep with you that night of the tiefling party as some sort of maneuver to gain your trust. Although I understand if that was your motivation for doing so.âÂ
Astarionâs expression morphed into one of guilt. But Tav nodded soberly, as if she had already expected it, before continuing on.Â
âItâs okay. Iâm not angry. But Iâm putting all my cards on the table now, so to speak. Actually, your decision tonight forced my hand, but I had been planning on telling you soon anyway. So, there you have it. The truth of my intentions. What you do with that information is up to you.â
She turned back to gaze out at their surroundings. Like she was giving him the opportunity to bolt away without her watching him. As if she expected him to flee from her confession.Â
But Astarion didnât flee. He remained seated, staring at her in complete wonderment.Â
âWhy?â he asked quietly.
She looked back at him again, confusion evident on her face.Â
âWhy what?â
âWhy do you care for me? Youâre so⊠well-adjusted. And Iâm well⊠this,â he finished lamely, placing a hand on his chest.Â
Tav pursed her lips. âIt would be a mistake to misconstrue my empathy for you as me being well-adjusted. Everyone has their own demons, Astarion,â she murmured. âMine just look different from yours.â
Astarion mulled her words over in his mind, considering them. He leaned forward to brace his forearms on his knees, his head drooping slightly.Â
âIâŠ,â he started, unsure. âThat vision⊠what it implied⊠You deserve something real, Tav. Youâre incredible⊠truly.âÂ
Tav closed her eyes, bracing for the fallout. Even though she would accept his decision, whatever it was, she didnât think she could bear to watch him deny her. It would hurt too much.Â
âLook. When we met, I had a plan. A nice, simple plan,â he blurted all at once. Rising swiftly to his feet, Tav watched as he began to pace before her, near to bursting with frenetic energy.Â
âSeduce you, sleep with you, manipulate your feelings so youâd never turn on me,â he counted off, laughing half-heartedly. âIt was⊠easy - instinctive. Habits from two hundred years of charming people kicked in. All you had to do was fall for it. And all I had to do⊠was not fall for you⊠which is where my nice, simple plan fell apart,â he finished, stopping to stand before her.Â
She held his gaze, speechless.Â
âI want you,â he whispered fervently. âI want what was in that vision⊠I want us to be something real.â
Never in a million years had she thought he would respond to her like this. She opened her mouth to speak, but Astarion cut her off with another sudden exclamation.Â
âI just donât know what real is,â he confessed, his tone a touch hysterical. Tav knew from his body language that being this transparent was completely out of Astarionâs comfort zone.Â
âBeing⊠close to someone - any kind of intimacy - was something I performed to lure people back. For him. Even though I know things between us are different, being with someone still feels⊠tainted. Still brings up those feelings of disgust, and loathing. I⊠I donât know how else to be with someone. No matter how much Iâd like to,â he finished, staring at her with beseeching eyes, willing her to understand.
Tav rose to her feet, coming to stand before him.Â
âI donât want you for your body,â she whispered. âOr to perform any acts of intimacy. We can be together, without sleeping together, for as long as you need.â
âReally,â he asked softly, his voice pitched low, rough with emotion.
âReally,â Tav asserted, giving him a small smile. âWould it be all right ifâŠâ she paused, conflicted. He eyed her curiously.
âCould I hug you?â she whispered.
The fact that she asked before doing so caused a well of emotion to spring up inside him. Eyes watering, Astarion nodded.Â
Slowly, Tav moved forward to wrap her arms around his waist. Her head nestled into the crook of his neck and shoulder. A perfect fit. He felt her exhale a deep sigh.
Tav hugging him was a sensation unlike any he had ever felt. At least, any he could remember feeling. The act of being touched, embraced, without any desire for something more. She just wanted to hold him, feel him close to her. It was incomprehensible to him, but utterly enjoyable, at the same time.Â
Slowly, ever so slowly, Astarion raised his arms to return Tavâs embrace. Drawing her even closer, he bowed his head to rest his cheek against her hair. It was soft, like the finest silk. He closed his eyes as he inhaled deeply, appreciating her sweet, floral scent.  Â
She made to pull away after a moment, not wishing to overwhelm him. But Astarion gripped her more firmly, a silent urge for them to stay that way a little longer.Â
âThis⊠this is nice,â he whispered.Â
He both felt and heard Tav hum contentedly in response.Â
It wasnât identical to the vision from Tavâs mind that he had seen, but Astarion reveled in their embrace nonetheless. It felt like the beginning of something new. And for the first time in his very, very long life, Astarion felt excited at the prospects of what would come next.Â

what placements would most likely signify working in the media & entertainment industry??

Leo sun/risingâEnthusiasm for acting, projecting themselves out there. Naturally attracts attention! Loves the world of dress up as well. Can play dramatics really well. May even want to own a band of their own.
Neptune 1hâGreat at acting. Shifts like a chameleon and sucks in energy to deliver the image everyone wants. Tunes easily into the moment. May also go on to make great music. Great at photography because of their attention to detail.
Capricorn/saturn domâ Great at depressive roles, making more of an impact on the mass. Focused on terror, sublime horror, the gross truth of reality to deliver a message. Used fear as a way to draw viewers attention. In their music their words are deep and powerful, profound. Grips the people who are too comfortable with their life and throws them in for a disturbing ride.
Venus-plutoâGreat at thriller acts, horror, comedy. Sets the scene for drama and terror and enacts it very well. Exudes a timeless charm and manages to sway the industry with their appeal. Can be controversial. Probably the kind where someone snaps a random picture of them and uploads it and sudden everyone wants to know their name.
Taurus stelliumâmay play in a lot of rom coms, is known for their stunning beauty as an actor. Plays the mean girl very well. Their visuals are breathtaking. Jessica Alba has a taurus stellium. Taps into stereotypes very well and uses it to their advantage.
Scorpio moonâChannels their pain into acting. May play obscene roles with hatred, terror, sadness. Betrayal. These signs are great at channeling their past into their work because their body remembers it all. Great at scenes of sobbing from the depths of their soul. Great at action movies, thriller, psychological thriller.
Pisces degrees, pisces placements, pisces-venus asp- Love for music and film industry. Mostly into aesthetics and atmospheric films. Focuses more on creating mood and setting the environment. Loves to capture scenes of utter rawness and chaos. Yet itâs romanticized, they have a poetic way of acting.
Pisces also has an idol they look up to and take a lot of inspiration from them!
Gemini placementsâGreat at analyzing moments and scenes to deliver a great performance. Some Geminiâs go on to play roles involving a government, FBI, NCIS, CIA, etc. Mostly men are into calculated, pressurized roles such as playing a single father, Agent, cop, firefighter. Gemini women also tend to do the same, they play roles in which it describes an âalter ego,â âhiddenâ persona, like Natalie Portman in Black Swan. That film falls under psychology horror. These placements are great at character arcs/redemption arcs.
5h stellium, 5h venus, 5h sun/marsâGreat for channeling creativity/passion!
10h Venus/Libra/TaurusâRuled by aesthetics, romanticism, and fame. Popular individuals! May get stunning roles and get popular easily. Success follows them.
Jupiter 10hâSupreme reputation in their acting/media career. Always maintains a good image regardless of scandals, issues.
MC in leoâUltimate get famous placement! Great actors of their time, almost timeless. Brings back an era of newness yet nostalgia everyone misses. Whether it be in their music or acting! Stunning and motivational individuals.
Virgo risingâMay be into modeling and climb their way to the top! Loves photography, fashion and aesthetics. Finds art absolutely beautiful.

I'm stuck on thinking about the person saying, "Why are they shooting at that dog?" during the opening scenes of The Thing. It's a funny story, but I can't help realizing how many modern movie producers think the same way.
The modern producer would watch that sequence and have notes. Put in an explainer, he'd say, and have the Norwegian lines in English or at least subtitled so the audience can understand what's happening. The dog should get hit by a bullet with a close up so we can see it heal, that way the audience really knows what's up! And he'd pat himself on the back for how much better he made it.
I find myself connecting this to movies more and more trying to keep the plot under wraps, so secret even the actors don't know what they're filming! The audience will really be wowed with the surprise of learning what happens in the plot! That's what suspense and mystery are, after all - not knowing a thing and finding it out. Nothing to it.
There's something to it, this new idea that keeping the plot secret is suddenly hugely important while simultaneously insisting everything is always explained. There can't be a moment anyone knows what's happening before paying for the movie, and there cannot be a single second a paying customer is unsure, or even a little worried, by anything the second they've parted with their money. If you pay your shot and punch your ticket you get everything delivered to the base of your brain in a cup of easily digestible slurry.
Anyway, not all movies and all that, but I think a whole bunch of producers are pleased as punch these days at how much better they are at suspense and mystery.

Yeah, lightsaber fights in the middle of a dark jungle are cool because it makes the lightsabers glow really brilliantly and that's a super cool look, but have you considered that maybe I would actually like to see this amazing choreography that you're trying to deliver? That I might like to actually be able to see what expression is on an actor's face when they're in the middle of a big reveal scene without having to turn off all the lights in my house so the TV will be bright enough to see? Have you considered that I would like TO BE ABLE TO SEE THIS SHOW YOU ARE SPENDING HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ON? "Oh, this is the best Star Wars live action fight choreography since the Duel of the Fates fight!" How can you tell??? At least The Phantom Menace wasn't afraid of a lighting rig! Pour one out for the gifmakers who have to try to turn the brightness up on those scenes without washing them out, you guys are all a real one.

hiii so ive had this idea for a while now but i just dont have the skills to write it myself, its not really a reader x character but more of a maybe actor!reader x the actor of the character if u get me??đđ
so the idea is actor!reader plays a character that is also played as the love interest/partner of hwang inho (lee byung hun's character) and during their scenes together (like a cute/intimate interaction between their characters) reader just keeps messing up her lines or having trouble staying in character because she keeps getting flustered/shy by lee byung hun causing them to redo the scene over and over again so him and the whole cast just keeps laughing and teasing her about itđŁđŁđđđ

Take after Take ââ .âŠ
Lee Byung-Hun x F!actor!reader
warnings: nothing just a hot actor and the use of y/n.
a/n: AAAAAAAAAH this request is so cute and a good first fic for me to write!!
The set felt calm, the quiet shuffle of crew members and the hum of equipment filling the air. Your hands were clammy as you stood on your mark, heart hammering in your chest. Today was the scene. The one everyone would remember, the one you felt COMPLETELY unprepared for.
âAlright, everyone, letâs get this scene rolling!â the director called. âY/n, Byung Hun, into positions.â
You exhaled shakily, moving to your spot. Across from you, Lee Byung Hun, the Lee Byung Hun, stood calm and collected. He gave you a small, reassuring smile, like he could sense the nerves radiating off you. You tried to smile back, but it probably came out more like a grimace.
The scene was intimate, the kind of moment that makes viewers hold their breath. Byung Hunâs character, was about to show a rare moment of vulnerability, tucking a strand of hair behind your characterâs ear. It was a simple gesture, but loaded with emotion. And you? You just had to respond with a single line.
âAction!â the director called.
Byung Hun delivered his lines flawlessly, his voice was deep and low, sending a shiver down your spine as he spoke. His eyes locked onto yours, so intense it felt like they could see straight through you. His hand reached up, fingertips just brushing your templeâŠ
And you burst into laughter. Really?
âCut!â the director said, though he sounded more amused than annoyed. âY/n, you good?â
âIâŠâ You glanced at Byung Hun, who was looking at you with a raised eyebrow and a slight smirk. âSorry, I donât know what happened. Nerves, I guess.â
âNo problem,â the director said. âLetâs reset. Action!â
This time, you made it halfway through. Byung Hunâs hand moved closer, his touch so light it sent a shiver down your spine. Your line was right there on the tip of your tongue⊠but instead of speaking, you squeaked. And then giggled. Again.
âCut!â
Laughter rippled through the set. Byung Hun chuckled, dropping his hand. âDo I make you that nervous?â he teased, tilting his head slightly.
âI⊠No,â you said, your face heating up. âOkay, maybe a little. Iâm sorry, I donât usually-â
âFirst time getting flustered on set?â he asked, stepping a little closer. His tone was gentle but playful, like he was enjoying your discomfort.
You nodded, covering your face with your hands. âThis is so embarrassing.â
âDonât worry,â he said, his voice soft enough that only you could hear. âHappens to the best of us. Just focus on the scene. Forget about the cameras, the crew⊠and me.â
You peeked at him through your fingers. âYou make that sound so easy.â
He grinned. âAlright, maybe donât forget about me completely. I am supposed to be the love of your life.â
You groaned, though you couldnât fight the small smile tugging at your lips. âYouâre enjoying this way too much.â
âMaybe a little,â he admitted, stepping back into position. âLetâs give it another go.â
This time, you managed to stay focused. His hand brushed against your temple, tucking the strand of hair away. His eyes held yours, and for a moment, the world outside the scene fell away. You opened your mouth to deliver your line⊠and promptly tripped over your own feet, stumbling straight into his chest.
âCut!â The directorâs voice was almost drowned out by the laughter erupting around you.
Byung Hun caught your shoulders, steadying you with practiced ease. He leaned in, his voice low and teasing. âIf you wanted an excuse to get closer, you couldâve just asked.â
You buried your face in your hands. âThis is a disaster.â
âNot at all,â he said, his tone softening. âMemorable, though. Donât you think?â
Eventually, after what felt like a hundred takes (and even more laughter), you finally finished the scene. When the director called it, the crew broke into applause, and you let out a breath you hadnât realized youâd been holding.
Byung Hun patted you lightly on the back. âTold you youâd get there.â
âThanks to your patience,â you said, still catching your breath.
âPatience is part of the job,â he replied, his voice dipping just enough to send a shiver down your spine. âAnd besides, you made it fun.â
As you walked off the set together, his hand brushed against your arm, lingering for just a moment. Your heart still raced, but this time, it wasnât from nerves. Maybe working with Lee Byung Hun would always be a little overwhelming... but it wasn't so bad.
apologies for any mistakes, this is my first time posting one of these ;-;

moments | tom blyth

summary: moments with tom and you <3 oh, and keanu reeves is also there! (reeves!reader)
an: nepo baby reader my beloved đ«¶đŒ

ON SET OF BILLY THE KID
since your dad had a few weeks off, he decided to visit you and tom on the set of billy the kid, which was filming in canada. tom was nervous since this would be the first time your dad would see him act in person. you understood why since your dad was a big name in hollywood (and also named the nicest guy).
âhe just texted, heâs here.â you told tom, who was in already in his billy the kid attire. you were hanging out in his trailer until he was called to set.
âis this really happening?â tom sighed. âkeanu reeves is going to see me act . . . holy shit.â
âjust pretend heâs not there or just relax. he loves you and he loves everything youâve been in.â you stood up from the chair and walked over to him.
âapart from being a big actor, heâs your dad. what if he sees that iâm not good enough to be with you?â
âif he ever says anything like that, run. thatâs not the real keanu reeves,â you replied and placed a kiss on his lips. âiâll be right back, Iâm going to go find him.â
âi have to be on set in two minutes. iâll meet you guys over there.â tom said as you exited his trailer in search of your dad.
eventually, you found him talking to the stunt coordinator about, one of his favorite subjects, motorcycles.
âsorry to interrupt,â you apologized for cutting into their conversation.
âno worries, i better get going. it was really nice talking to you. thank you.â the stunt coordinator said as he walked away.
âtom said heâs going to meet us on set. theyâre about to start filming.â you and your dad walked to where tom had told you to go.
âthis is really nice. did you see that horse over there? beautiful horse. remember when you didnât want to ride the horse on set of john wick?â keanu teased. you rolled your eyes playfully and kept walking to the set.
the scene tom would be filming was the opening scene of the whole show. your dad quickly made friends with the producers and director and sat by them when filming began. you watch your boyfriend get into character and deliver his lines perfectly. you didnât know what it was, but you loved seeing him as billy the kid.
âcut! that was great, tom! we got it!â the director shouted. immediately your dad started applauding as loud as he could.
then tom joined you and your dad. âtom, that was amazing. you did an incredible job.â your dad complimented him.
âthank you, sir. it means a lot that youâre here.â tom replied. he still couldnât believe keanu freaking reeves watched him act. you two have been together for quite a while so he didnât have to be so nervous around your dad. but he was and hearing keanu say such kind words to him calmed him down.
âdad was talking about the horse.â you said, pointing to the horse that tom called his.
before you knew it, both of your guys were walking in the direction of the horse.
LUNCH WITH THE FAMILY
it was a nice day out in new york city. before you dad started filming for his new movie, he wanted to have lunch with you, tom and his partner, alexandra. he picked out where you would have lunch and texted you the address. it wasnât that far from tomâs apartment so you decided to walk.
âwhat do you think your dad is going to say about this?â tom asked, referring to his recently bleached blonde hair.
âi think heâll like it. i like it, but i do miss the brown hair.â you admitted. soon enough, you made it to the restaurant. your dad had gotten an outside table so you easily spotted him and alexandra waiting for you and tom.
tom had a hat on so your had hadnât noticed the blonde hair until tom took it off. alexandra gasped as keanu chuckled. âyou look great, man.â he brought tom in for a hug.
âyou do look great, tom.â alexandra agreed and stood up from her chair to greet you and tom.
âhi, sweetheart,â keanu said as he hugged you and kissed your cheek. âwhen are you going blonde?â
ânever. i think the only time i ever dyed my hair was when i had a mental breakdown during seventh grade and dyed my hair red.â you said as you sat next to tom.
âshe had me up at two am helping her rinse because she didnât want to get dye on her fingers.â keanu continued.
âyou had red hair? i need to see that.â tom chuckled.
eventually the paparazzi found you and they kept some distance, but they still annoyed you. you four took the opportunity to mess with them and posed with peace signs or funny faces. it reminded you of the times when you did the exact same thing years ago with your dad. whenever he took you out to eat, the paparazzi would arrive seconds later taking pictures of you two. keanu suggested making faces at the camera so you did just that. now, you were doing the same thing but with your boyfriend, dad and stepmom.
KEANU REEVES, PROFESSIONAL THIRD WHEEL
âhowâs the family?â stephen colbert asked. you dad was a guest and his show and he loved any chance he had to talk about you.
âfamily is doing really great, thanks for asking. iâve spending a lot of time with my daughter. her and i are doing lots of activities like pottery, she loves pottery.â he explained.
âthatâs great. and do you two always hang out when youâre not busy?â stephen asked.
âyeah, she sometimes has her friends over and i call her and ask if i could come over and then i take her friends and her to dinner or bowling.â he laughed as he remembered all the times he took your friends out so he could also spend time with you.
âi donât know if youâre aware of this, but twitter has actually named you the professional third wheel because of these photos.â stephen showed keanu and the audience some paparazzi photos of you and tom walking hand in hand down the streets of new york and to the side was your dad with an ice cream cone in his hand.
âoh man, i mean it was going to happen,â keanu said. you and your dad actually had an agreement about what stuff he could share about when it came to being asked about you in interviews. âtom is a great guy, heâs the best.it looks like theyâre annoyed with me, but I promise theyâre not.â he laughed as another picture was shown of tom talking to him, but he was still holding your hand. whatever it was that tom and your dad were talking about, it seemed really interesting since they werenât paying attention to you at all.
âoh no,â keanu hid his face in embarrassment. âshe looks mad at me, i hope she wasnât mad.â
âthis is my favorite one yet.â stephen added as another picture came on screen.
the picture showed you on your phone walking while your dad and tom walked behind laughing hystericallyïżŒ at something that someone had said.
âare you sure iâm the third wheel?â keanu joked as the audience laughed.
âis tom blyth single?â
the cast of the ballad of songbirds and snakes were doing the wired autocomplete interview and it was tomâs turn to answer questions.
âi am not. i have a beautiful, lovely wonderful girlfriend.â he answered with a smile.
âand his name is keanu reeves!â rachel added followed by josh laughing.
âthe pictures donât lie, tom!â

What are some JBLs you recommend that have good kisses AND a good romance plot
LOL I can hear the pain behind this question, anon. Itâs true that a lot of JBLs with a good romance story fail to deliver on the physical intimacy side of things, though that is becoming less and less the norm. I do have some that I think do both reasonably well. I donât know exactly what âgood romanceâ means to you, but Iâm going to assume weâre talking about well-executed romance plots, regardless of the showâs overall genre and focus, where the characters and relationship arc make sense and donât randomly derail somewhere along the way. Hereâs what I got:
I Cannot Reach You
This is a high school friends to lovers (the cream of the crop for that trope, IMO). This is a story about realizing feelings and building the courage to change your most important relationship, so youâll have to wait a bit to get those kisses but once you do, I think youâll be pleased.
His
The second chance romance for me. This is a bl film about two men who come back together after a bad breakup and figure out how to make it work. I love them and this story so much.
Old Fashion Cupcake
Thereâs only one kiss in this short and sweet show, but itâs a real doozy. A super tight workplace age gap romance that knows exactly what itâs doing.
At 25:00 in Akasaka
Two actors who went to college together meet again when they are cast opposite each other in a bl drama, and get tangled up in the blurred lines between their professional and personal relationships. Angst, baby!
The Pornographer
This series features some of the best kissing and sex scenes you will see anywhere in the bl genre, but warning that itâs a twisted and wild ride. There are five installments and you gotta watch them all to see the full picture of the character and romance arcs. Itâs so rewarding if you do.
The End of the World With You
From the same mind of the previous entry and similarly hot and wild and weird. This show has more going on than the second chance romance at its core, but it themes come together beautifully.
Tokyo In April IsâŠ
Another second chance romance, this one features a lot of sex but also deals with heavy subject matter, so mind the CWs. Itâs one of my favorites of last year and the love story in this one has really stuck with me; itâs beautiful and so hard won.
Love is Better the Second Time Around
This one comes with a disclaimer that it goes off the rails in the final two episodes, but you asked for good kissing so it would feel wrong not to include it. Yet another second chance romance (are you picking up on a theme here?), this one gets two former high school lovers back together as adults to sort out their misunderstandings, lingering feelings, and buckets of sexual tension. It was so goodâuntil it wasnât.

tobiizu actors au where they play like, the secondary villain (Tobirama) and the co-lead (izuna) in an extremely popular movie. they seem really respectful if distant during the promotional stuff, and deliver an electric and powerful performance with great chemistry within the movie. perfectly normal stuff. they're honestly heavily overshadowed by the lead villain + hero (hashirama and madara) both in fan content and in promotional interest.
then the dvd extras come out which include deleted scenes with some directors commentary, including an extended version of the main scene between tobirama & izunas characters. as the director hikaku explains before the clip plays, a huge portion of what was cut was on-set improv between the pair.
hikaku: yeah, it was really good, really impressive stuff, showed a great understanding of the characters. unfortunately when it was time for editing we just couldn't make it....
hikaku: uh. how do i put this. we couldn't keep it in the movie because it was intensely sexually charged and it got weird.
and then the clip plays and everyone sees his point. what the fuck were these guys on when filming this. this actually makes how normal they are during the press tour way more confusing, how do you unscripted choke a man while sitting in his lap for a scene and then go around like you're just coworkers
when asked about it in future interviews their response is a very polite "i respect his work as an actor, would love to work with him again. i don't see anything unusual about the scene and you guys are reading too much into it." so basically they're both fucking liars and everyone knows it
#tobiizu#izutobi#tobizu#the answer is either that they actually got married 8 years ago and told no one#or that they have never met before this movie but have privately both been members of each others fan clubs for 10 years#and took the chance this gave them#either option equally likely.#what did they do in that scene? everything short of kissing. and i do mean everything----

Critics Reactions to Jonathan Bailey's perfomance as Fiyero (Master Post)
âDancing Through Life,â on the other hand, is the adaptationâs biggest musical accomplishment. Although Wicked is primarily about the relationship between these two women, the charming prince Fiyero always threatens to steal the show, and never more so now that Bridgerton heartthrob Jonathan Bailey is playing him in a dazzling blue/gold suit. Setting this song in a library full of rotating, cylindrical shelves allows the dancers to really show off their moves, while Bailey succeeds at infusing the number with his personality as he flirts with men and women alike. Unless Wicked really hits big with the Academy, itâs unlikely that Bailey will score a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Oscars, but surely he deserves some honor for being the sexiest actor on Earth at the moment â hope youâre taking notes for next year, PEOPLE! [x]
And Bailey, from his boot-toe book choreography to ovation-worthy gymnastics, is hoofing his way through every step of âDancing Through Life;â there will be deserved awards attention coming Grande and Erivoâs way for Wicked, and Bailey should be as much a part of the conversation. I canât remember the last time a performance was so instantly charismatic, the kind of movie-star heistâhe nearly runs away with the film during that musical numberâthat makes going to the cinema so exciting. [x]
A character I was worried about going into this. Jonathan Bailey, he plays Fiyero, who is this kind of just over the top cocky, flamboyant, kind of douchey, but in a fun way character. And thereâs just so much there that it could be really easy to mess up. And I didnât know that he was into song and dance performance, because Iâve only seen him in Bridgerton, so I didnât know what else was in his repertoire. But I feel like he absolutely crushed that character. You cannot help but love everything he does when heâs on screen. He nails it. [x]
Jonathan Bailey oozes sex appeal and charisma as Fiyero Tigelaar in an utterly swoon-worthy performance, unleashing his West End talents with the dazzling âDancing Through Lifeâ sequence that cements himself as a true superstar, while his chemistry with both Erivo and Grande is off the charts. [x]
I have to give Jonathan Bailey his freaking flowers. I thought he was going to be good. He got an Olivier award for Company and if you haven't, there is a video of him singing The Last Five Years from years agoâŠ.So I was like I think he's going to do a good job, he's also so charming and everybody loves him. I was not prepared to see what we got. The perfomance, the vocals, the gymnastics, the charm, the way he says 'you're perfect' is just engrained in my brain in the right way. And he's soâŠlike he would have chemistry with a chair, I'm convinced. Everyone in 'Dancing Through Life' is now pregnant and so am I. His entire arc of Fiyero being like the daft person and then becoming who he becomes is so clear and every choice, and look, nuances he hasâŠit is calculated but effortless. [x]
Jonathan Bailey delights in the supporting cast as her love interest Fiyero, also offering a fantastic interpretation of someone who hasnât been called upon too often to be serious but might be willing to give it a try. [x]
âDancing Through Lifeâ triumphantly translates the joy of seeing Wicked live: Dancers perform acrobatics in rotating circular bookshelves, Jonathan Bailey (who I swear has chemistry with every single person on the planet) taps his way across books with a flippancy perfectly suited to the charismatic prince Fiyero, and the ensemble works (and sings!) in harmony. [x]
Jonathan Bailey uncorks an outrageous scene-stealer as the heterocamp Fiyero, a performance to put alongside Cary Elwes in The Princess Bride. [x]
Chu's usual choreographer, Christopher Scott, delivers again with vibrant, inspired moves, particularly in the elaborate "Dancing Through Life," which takes place in the school's rotating, multilevel library. "Bridgerton" star Jonathan Bailey gets a chance to show off his musical theater background here, and he's terrifically charming as the glib Prince Fiyero, the object of both Elphaba and Galinda's romantic interests. [x]
The true surprise, even more than Grande, is Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, the charming prince with hidden depths that both Galinda and Elphaba gravitate towards. Bailey has such a light comic touch to him and his performance of âDancing Through Lifeâ might be the best part of the movie, and the most ambitious set piece in the film. [x]
The true standouts are three-fold, with Grande, Erivo, and Bailey embracing the tonal shifts with unbridled glee. [âŠ] Fiyero has major bisexual vibes, and chemistry with every single character. Baileyâs take on âDancing Through Lifeâ lets the Olivier Award-winning actor unleash his sex appeal on a library full of unsuspecting Oz-ites. [x]
Jonathan Bailey adds renegade bravado as the devil-may-care Prince Fiyero, selling the character's journey from apathy to activism with aplomb. [x]
Elsewhere, British heartthrob Jonathan Bailey steals the show as the vain Prince Fiyero Tigelaar, a love interest for both young witches. Bailey effortlessly dances and sings his way through the filmâs most demanding musical numbers. [x]
It's Jonathan Bailey who threatens to steal the show though, instantly charming during Flyero's meet-cute with Elphaba. Anybody not swooning already will be with his excellent 'Dancing Through Life' number, Bailey's palpable charisma shining through the extended number which culminates in a reimagined Ozdust Ballroom. [x]
One more: Jonathan Bailey. His dashing Prince Fiyero is one charming prince, so cheeky that he will have boys and girls everywhere swooning. And swoon they do, within the film â itâs a small thing, and not to get all #RepresentationMatters about it, but I was delighted to see Wicked make very clear that both male and female Shiz students are equally lustful whenever Fiyeroâs around. There are some deliciously flirtatious moments between Fiyero and some guys during âDancing Through Life,â and it had me thinking about the fact that, for as fabulously gay as musical theater so often is, you donât usually see that kind of thing in a massive mainstream film. Kudos all around. [x]
The standout to me: Iâm going to go with Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero. He pops up into the film and immediately comes off so cocky, but so charming and likable. Just everybody he talks to, he has this fun rapport and chemistry with them, and just brings to life every scene that heâs in, whether it is just dialogue, joking, dramatic or his big dance number in the library. Heâs so good. And itâs one of those things where I am not super familiar with him outside of this, and you just see him and you go - man, that guy is a star, this guy is really good. [x]
And while Wicked is all about is two leading ladies, we must spare a moment or several for Jonathan Baileyâs virile, twinkly Fiyero, who quite literally leaps onto the screen on his horse while clad in tight britches and sturdy riding boots. Heâs charming in a way I never found the rather bland character to be onstage, bringing vibrancy to the role as a big screen heartthrob who tears up the floor (and library books) with his aggressive dancing. Now it makes sense that he could turn the head of both Glinda and Elphaba. A West End veteran himself, Bridgerton actor Bailey also boasts an exemplary voice â the casting directors truly spoiled fans here â and there are no exceptions made when every number is treated as a potential show-stopper. [x]
In terms of supporting performances, Baileyâs absolutely dashing and magnetic, giving a star-making performance â a la Rupert Everettâs in MY BEST FRIENDâS WEDDING. He lights up the screen as the object of romantic affection in screwball-esque scenes shared with Grande as much as he does during the library set number leading âDancing Through Life.â [x]
Bailey is a charming Fiyero, using all of his Bridgerton swagger in exactly the right ways. He arrives well into the term, a transfer student who has reached the end of the number of schools to be kicked out of. Fiyero is sometimes treated as a throwaway characterâthe generically hot love interest for two girls to feud over. But this Baileyâs Fiyero will not be so easily dismissed and his âDancing Through Life,â plays well when accented by talented professional dancers that make the entire scene pop. [x]
Then thereâs Jonathan Bailey, who manages to steal the show from his very entrance. Not since Dan Stevens first showed up in The Guest, or perhaps when Glenn Powell out-cruised Tom in Top Gun: Maverick, has there been this much tantalizing testosterone employed in such an effective way. Baileyâs bravura take on Fiyero Tigelaar, the Winkie Prince who sings about âDancing Through Life,â is by far one of Chuâs most accomplished moments of filmmaking, managing to make the character simultaneously seductive and disarmingly silly. Itâs also a moment in Wickedâs storytelling where thereâs fun to be had, and the massive sequence is absolutely a joy that by far exceeds the smaller scope of the on-stage presentation. [x]
Jonathan Bailey is so very âthat guy.â His Fiyero doesnât have the foppish facade of the original. His portrayal makes us aware heâs more complex than he appears from the moment we meet him and his talking horse, but as a Prince Charming, his rizz is high. Who wouldnât fall in love with Bailey (and who hasnât)? [x]
Bailey as Fiyero is the ultimate casting as the Lord becomes a Prince. He delves into Fiyeroâs shallowness and his moments between Elphaba and Galinda are so starkly different as Bailey plays into both relationships organically with wonderful chemistry between all three. [x]
Jonathan Bailey has a standout musical number with âDancing Through Life,â and he manages to have chemistry with everyone on screen as the handsome Fiyero. Heâs fiercely flirtatious and fun to watch. [x]
Jonathan Bailey could have chemistry with an inanimate object. That man absolutely shines in the role of Fiyero. [x]
But, itâs Baileyâs Fiyero (surprise!) who steals the movieâs second-best scene: the elaborately choreographed âDancing Through Life.â [x]
Galinda immediately sets her sights on Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey, bringing an outstanding amount of Kenergy to his role). [âŠ] And there are certain sequences, specifically Galindaâs signature number âPopularâ and Fiyeroâs âDancing Through Lifeâ, where everything does click together nicely and the film suddenly sparks into life. [x]
Jonathan Bailey is absolutely swoony as the flirty Fiyero. While Wicked: Part One is just the beginning of his story, you can already see how Elphabaâs impact is starting to influence him to think more of others versus being shallow and self-consumed. [x]
Jonathan Baileyâs Fiyero is a joy to watch, and you can see in his physicality and the sparkle in his eyes who he is destined to become. Once we see him dance and sing, he sweeps everyone off their feet. [x]
Fiyero gets one of the filmâs most appealing numbers, brilliantly delivered by Bailey, âDancing Through Lifeâ, as the dashing Prince disturbs the peace of Shizâs library to entice his classmates to join him for an evening of fun at âthe most swankified place in townâ, the Ozdust Ballroom. With Bailey gleefully taking on Christopher Scott characterful, silky smooth, choreography, he goes on to offer us seductive glimpses of the more substantial man hiding behind his mask of superficiality. [x]
I canât say the word scene-stealer without talking about Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero. Give Jonathan Bailey awards, give him every role ⊠for being so amazing in this movie. He is just so effortlessly cool and charming and funny, but I love the heart that he gives certain moments ⊠Fiyero just lives with me now ⊠He enters this movie giving me one of my favourite performances. [x]
The supporting cast proves equally magnificent. Jonathan Baileyâs Fiyero exudes oodles of charisma and a strong voice, easily proving he can handle Christopher Scottâs limber choreography while simultaneously putting his own stamp on it. While his character plays a more major role in the second film, his introduction, through the stunning âDancing Through Lifeâ number, leaves a lasting impression and makes for a compelling counterpoint for both leading ladies. [x]
Not to be outdone, Jonathan Bailey of Bridgerton fame plays Fiyero. The heartthrob, almost brainless hunk, who arrives at Shiz and drives so many of the students crazy with lust. Now Baileyâs carefree, but passionate, and decisive in both singing and choreography. With his signature song âDancing Through Lifeâ, Bailey gets to showcase some awesome footwork, along with amazing vocals, for a scene that is just mesmerizing thanks to the energy and the camera work. [x]
That said, it's BRIDGERTON (2020) star Jonathan Bailey who winds up stealing most of the scenes he's in as the Prince, Fiyero Tigelaar. Bailey is fantastic as the Prince, bringing an entertaining sense of levity and delight to the film. This is to the point that Bailey's absence in the film's finale is quite noticeable, with the film feeling somewhat dull without his presence. [x]
Elsewhere, Jonathan Bailey is charismatic as the dumb-but-charming Fiyero, and thereâs a campness to his song-and-dance number, âDancing Through Lifeâ that will stir the loins in a whole range of viewers. [x]
One standout is Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, the Winkie prince who quickly makes a mark on Shiz after his enrollment. Bailey is not only charming and funny throughout, but exudes an energy that many of the other supporting players simply lack. [x]
Supporting roles are strong too, most notably from Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, full of bravado and fun, as well as a hefty dose of yearning â and fans of Bridgerton will know that no one does yearning like Bailey. His 'Dancing Through Life' is a blast but he's just as powerful in the film's quieter moments as his chemistry with Elphaba burns. [x]
As for the supporting cast, Bailey absolutely shines in his biggest film role to date. Much like Galinda, Fiyero is initially privileged and arrogant, but Bailey instils him with so much undeniable charm that you can easily understand why literally everyone at Shiz is falling under his spell. The seeds are sewn for Fiyero to open up in Part Two, but, for now, Bailey nails it as a seemingly one-dimensional hunk with hidden layers to explore. [x]
The filmâs biggest strength is its perfectly cast triple-threat performers â Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp, Ariana Grande-Butera as Glinda Upland and Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar, a handsome prince whose subplot is best not spoiled. [âŠ] The charismatic Bailey, Emmy-nominated for âFellow Travelers,â is known as the oldest son Anthony in the âBridgertonâ TV series, but in England, he is also an accomplished musical theater performer. He won an Olivier Award as Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for playing Jamie in the revival of âCompanyâ in 2018. Fleet-footed and a nimble vocalist, he gives Fiyero an allure that wasnât initially apparent on stage. [x]
Meanwhile, Jonathan Bailey channels his incredible Kenergy to bring the effortlessly charming Fiyero to the screen, with his fun take on âDancing Through Lifeâ almost stealing the show (someone please give him his own musical!) [x]
The same goes for Fiyero as Jonathan Bailey who makes his male lead into a much stronger character by leaning into the sobering moments as strongly as the lighter ones. [x]
Another pleasant surprise was Bailey as Fiyero. Best-known for his role in âBridgerton,â Bailey isnât as well-known for his singing chops, but he deftly carries one the most dazzling musical numbers of the whole show, âDancing Through Life,â serving up both impressive vocals and dancing. Beyond his musical talent, Bailey is charming and roguish as the Winkie prince, while hinting that thereâs a little more to him beyond his care-free persona. Bailey also has the unique ability to have chemistry with practically anyone heâs a romantic lead with, so he has great chemistry with both Grande and Erivo. The few, briefly swoon-worthy interactions between Fiyero and Elphaba specifically will likely have fans excited to see Fiyero and Elphabaâs relationship develop in âWicked: Part 2.â [x]
