Blue cheese is made by purposely putting a SPECIFIC type of mold that is known to be safe to eat into it, which is called penicillium roqueforti. For the record, penicillium roqueforti is a different strain of penicillium than us used in making the antibiotic penicillin, which is penicillium chrysogenum. The reason why the mold in blue cheese is safe is because it is purposely put there. We know what type of mold it is.

SPOILED MOLD, on the other hand, can be any type of mold and that makes it extremely dangerous. For one, people can have severe allergies to specific types of mold that are commonly found on spoiled food or in homes. That's why black mold is considered to be so dangerous and a public health risk. Black mold can trigger an allergic reaction from your immune system very suddenly if you breathe it in, especially in immunocompromised people. This CAN BE DEADLY.

The effects don't end there. Even people who don't necessarily have an allergy to mold can be impacted by the molds found on spoiled foods. For example, Cladosporium is a type of mold that can trigger asthma attacks in people with asthma, which CAN BE DEADLY. It's also dangerous for people with allergies or are immunocompromised, like other types of dangerous molds. Even more importantly, it looks like a lot of safe types of mold. The left image is a drawn diagram of Cladosporium and the right is Cladosporium growing inside a home. As you can see, it looks a lot different in real life and is harder to detect, since it looks like a lot of types of mold when you're actually looking at it.

White molds can be dangerous too, for the same reasons. Some can be allergic to it. Some can get infections from it. You don't even have to eat the mold in some cases to get sick of have a reaction, because some people are impacted by breathing in the spores of molds.

Another important fact is that if you can see mold on your food, that means there's a LOT of mold on it. More than you can see. Mold is a fungus, so it must grow out of what it's on in order to be visible. I couldn't find a good quality diagram showing what you see vs what's there, so Tumblr is probably going to tear this diagram's quality apart, but it's the best I can find.

In short, DON'T EAT THE LUNCHLYS and DON'T BUY THEM FOR YOUR KIDS. We KNOW there's mold growing on them already because we can see it. Even if you don't SEE mold on your Lunchly, don't eat it, because it's very likely that it's INSIDE it. You don't have to worry about every food you eat just because there may, theoretically, be mold. Just worry about foods that you get reports of mold being found in new product, like Lunchly.

When I replied saying I was offline as a kiddo I truly meant it, ya girl only had books, the outdoors, and art as things to do. I think X Files is some supernatural/alien type thing right? That’s why it’s “X Files” because it’s what would be in conspiracy theory type censored government documents???

there's an essay jumbled up in my brain about dunmeshi's beginning and how clever and deceptive it is as a sleight-of-hand trick that distracts the audience from the depth and scope of the worldbuilding and foreshadowing that's being set up the entire time by dangling zany characters and wacky dishes and biology fun facts in front of us, and how that serves to catch invested viewers off guard when those elements come to the forefront, but also how it works against it with other viewers wanting "more" and not seeing it because the plot bait isn't laid out up front

how people getting frustrated with the characters "not taking things seriously" is mirrored and refuted in the confrontation between Laios and Shuro. how the characters' attitudes aren't just a result of shallow low-stakes "comedy rules" where nothing matters, but are an extension of their personalities (Laios's nonstandard expression of emotions being offputting even to people he knows) and the world and social environment (adventurers being desensitized to death and injury because resurrection magic is commonplace). the way the party refers to "saving Falin" instead of "retrieving Falin's corpse," indicating that they still see her with full personhood, and how that phrasing leads to some readers/viewers believing that Falin is alive in the dragon's stomach, conscious of being slowly digested while the party carelessly fucks around "wasting time." how the weird tonal dissonance makes sense in-universe and yet is deliberately challenged more and more the deeper the party goes

all the character building and pieces of lore slowly weaving together the shape of the larger world, laying the groundwork for the major themes that will surface later. so much is right there in the "low-stakes" early episodes if you know what you're looking for (or pass the perception checks).

it can be so satisfying to see new viewers/readers pick up on the clues even in the earliest "simple" episodes, or notice new things and make connections yourself....and it can also be frustrating to see people dismiss oddities and dissonance as shallow or bad writing because they don't expect a "cooking anime" to have depth like that. why try to question and understand and peel back the layers when you don't expect there to be any layers?

@saving-stark yes! my parents had been considering a new kitty playmate for their sad boy Mister E for several months now ever since we lost his previous playmate, my elderly childhood cat Abby… early on, we thought perhaps miss Fiona could be his new playmate but both Mister E and Fiona said that she was NOT indoor cat material and had to go RIGHT NOW

so then they were thinking about adopting one of the jellybeans to be his new friend, but would foster them both in the meantime till i found a new home for the other baby… i’d been looking into some possibilities for homing the other baby, but unbeknownst to me, the jellybeans were putting in overtime at the small and cute factory at my parents’ place, and they decided to adopt them both!! now i get to see them both grow up together yippee!!!!!

also, mama Fiona is doing great! my mother was worried that Fiona was going to be distraught that the kittens vanished suddenly, but honestly since they were already weaned anyway her reaction seemed to mostly just be “oh thank fucking god the babysitter finally came and picked up these kids i can finally relax” 💀

she’s been kinda spoiled by me these last several months while taking care of the jellybeans so she’s decided she has a pretty cushy gig in my backyard and would like to stick around here awhile. and i’m good with that! she seems to be past the indoor-socialization window unfortunately, but such is community cats sometimes. but my parents and i do agree that while the jellybeans have been very cute we don’t need any more of them to try to figure out home situations for so we’re going to get her TNR’d at the vet in a few weeks 👍

Y'know how in the Pokemon world they eat meat? And it's almost certainly because in the original series they made it out to be that real animals still existed and then that got retconned and is no longer true? But now that that's been retconned we're left with the very troubling question of "what the fuck is the meat??????"

The producers basically said "don't worry about it :)" because they can't come up with a non-worrying answer. And we do know that canonically, parts of some pokemon are edible such as the fruits or whatever the hell they are that grow on Snover and Torterra, Slowpoke Tails which shed naturally, etc.

It is possible that they are eating real pokemon meat because it's no different to eating animal meat, except for the fact that all pokemon seem to be significantly more sentient than animals which brings a huge moral conundrum to this whole "are they eating pokemon meat" question.

So to be honest the easy answer here is just "it's vegan meat." There's real vegan 'meat' products made of seaweed and algae that give the same properties to the food as real meat would have, so who's the say they're not using that in their world? It may be a boring answer but honestly it's the one that makes the most sense. In a world where the vast majority of the population is openly against pokemon cruelty, do you really think eating the meat of basically sentient creatures would be considered okay?
