I always think it's funny when I see one of those posts from someone going I can't BELIEVE people talk about Ghibli films as aesthetic comfort sweet soft movies, these movies are about DARK FUCKED UP subject matter and heavy topics like DEATH and WAR and then you can scroll a little further and you can see reblogged clips from Ghibli movies of slow pans across sprawling meadows and beautifully rendered alien fauna or cozy villages with the most beautiful piano score played over it, sandwiched between moments of genuine human compassion and connection, quiet sequences of people performing mundane tasks, and I'm like yeah man that's crazy, definitely people are crazy if they associate these things w their corresponding movies. personally, I sit down to watch Kiki's Delivery Service stone-faced as I meditate on the Loss Of Innocence and I don't experience any other parts of the movie. only the serious bits. I don't reblog a single aesthetic gifset from the movie because then that means I would be Missing The Point

For a while I've been itching to draw the wedding outfits from this post again. I made them up on the fly as I was drawing, but I actually really like how they ended up turning out. They're super cute!! (though, yet again, you can't see almost any part of Dedede's outfit... 💔)

But then I couldn't get it out of my head to make a companion piece for it, with their mirror versions. And so. I did. What they have going on is a little bit messy, though...

#garry's mod #gmod #source engine #half life 2 #sandbox #hearted #a car in the parking lot. no evident signs of life aside from your presence. the lights and heating in here are on. external doors locked #some stores are still in states of occupation but clearly none of them are actually doing business anymore #where are you? why are you here?#maybe you're in a weird vestigial janitor's position— showing up to move odds and ends out and make sure no one's broken in #maybe just a very boring security job for the last couple weeks #maybe (and this is a stretch) you work in the diner downstairs that still seems to be at least *approaching* functional?#most appealing idea to me is just being someone walking home from work/school and finding one of the front doors left propped open #you stop in and can't help but wander the still-furnished stores and marvel at the stillness #there's a threatening feeling when these liminal maps block or lock exit doors that feels very obvious and it's not entirely missing here #but it doesn't feel like very *present* danger? i can't help but compare it to sneaking through an abandoned building #you're not really in any danger aside from maybe getting told off by a security guard who probably doesn't care #but this map inspires way more positive comfy feelings in me than it does any fear. it's a callback to the urbexing teen years i didn't hav #and a reminder of just how much dead retail space now pockmarks my neck of the woods

Ok, but I actually think this was an incredibly subtle way of showing something really important about the way both Style and Sky feel about Fadel and Prapai on an instinctive level.

In both Style and Sky's stories, their dads are the only parent still present in their lives (Style because of his mother passing; Sky because of his mother leaving). Moreover, to both of them, their recovery from their respective traumas figure their dads in some very significant way. So their dads are incredibly important figures in their lives that they associate with safety, comfort, and protection.

And in both these cases neither Style nor Sky should be associating Fadel and Prapai with those feelings at all: Style, because he knows Fadel is a killer, one he is actively lying to and who has a reason to hurt him if he finds out. Sky, because of his misgivings about Prapai's motivations at this point in the narrative.

Yet in these moments of semi-wakefulness (Style is still mostly asleep; Sky is running a very high fever), they both hear a voice that should be unfamiliar and cause confusion and anxiety and instead call out to the one figure in their lives that they have always been able to rely on.

And yes, Style and Sky are in very different places in their respective narratives with Fadel and Prapai, but I just love how this little writing choice shows us that -- despite all their respective circumstances suggesting otherwise -- on some deep, subconscious, and intuitive level, our boys both heard a voice that sounded like the call of home.

Harvey telling the farmer it's their time for the annual check up before knowing them for a year is always funny to me. But the fact I keep drawing Asmodeus♡ with a big mouth and fangs made me read the dialogue more like "that's scary, please stop" rather than "okay onto the next part".

What astounds me about the whole "you need a pure human SOUL to perfect the serum" thing is that so many people take Chujin's conclusion at face value. Chujin Ketsukane? Chujin "Winner of the 'You Tried In Engineering' Award" Ketsukane? Chujin "Fumbled Inventing Robots So Hard He Earned The Ire Of The Usually Pretty Chill King" Ketsukane? Chujin "I Accidentally Killed A Human Child By Overshooting The Parameters On My Guard Robot" Ketsukane? That Chujin Ketsukane?

#undertale yellow #get reaaaaal.#get so reaaaaaaaal.#i know that people make his conclusion correct because they wanna bring Kanako back (even though she's not actually dead)#or something along those lines to make Ceroba's whole tunnel visioned scheme all feel worth it in the end #(even though her whole arc is about not being so caught up in the past and reaching out to the people around her)#but it doesn't feel right to me that the serum would work. it feels more like the point is that this whole affair was a harebrained #scheme cooked up by a paranoid and desperate man.#believe what you wanna believe but personally i don't think being pure of heart would've been the answer. i don't think #there's any way for a miracle serum to be conjured up like that.#also SOUL stuff has been shown to be more complicated than most people think. alphys thought that injecting determination #into Fallen Down monsters would make their SOULs persist after death and they ended up waking up then fusing into Amalgamates #tldr: i *personally* think that even if Ceroba got Clover's SOUL the serum still wouldn't have worked.#(edit: I'm not vagueing anyone btw. okay no see the thing that made me really, really sad about hinata and the thing that made me really, really root for him and love him and want to see him win it all was how, like, people kept DENYING him. and i'm not talking about spectators in the stands going "omg he's so short haha, can he really do anything?" i'm talking about how his own team and how everyone who knew them in some way - as much as i love them - could never really separate him from kageyama. they were the freak quick duo, karasuno's number nine and number ten. they were amazing! so brilliant, the two of them. and hinata thought it was a way out, at first. he thought it was a way over the summit. he thought it was the key to being someone better.

but a key goes both ways, you know. it can lock you up just as much as it can set you free.

and hinata had to be so, so frustrated. everyone was finding ways to move forward except him. everyone expected him to stay stuck. and you could argue that that's not entirely true, sure, that he was always training, always trying to catch up, and they encouraged that. but nobody ever expected him to be more. nobody ever expected him to go beyond what he had with kageyama - they all thought that was enough for hinata. they thought he was fine like that because it worked for the rest of them. they underestimated how much he wanted to be capable. they didn't get how much he wanted to stand on his own two feet.

and that wasn't fair to hinata! it wasn't fair that hinata, who loved to play and loved the game and loved volleyball so so much, was the only one being left behind! he wanted to change that but nobody was trying with him!!! so of course he got impatient!! of course he was reckless!!! of course he was carving his own opportunities!!! there was no way forward otherwise!!! because if we take a minute to think about how training would have gone while kageyama was at tokyo, let's be honest — it probably wouldn't have gone well. nobody else can do with hinata what kageyama could do with him. hinata would have been held back. he would have felt useless. practicing serves and receives was stuff he was already doing constantly before that, and it wasn't teaching him anything. yeah hinata was a little bit selfish and a little bit shameless but being so finally got him somewhere!!

all hinata ever wanted to do was fly, even if it meant straying from the flock to do so

#anyways lesson learned: when you've exhausted all other options then just fucking go for it #what's the worst that could happen #you either get shit done or you don't #ball boy arc is sooooo important and i hate when ppl treat it like hinata was just being stupid #he was FED UP!!!#washijo sure as hell wasn't going to let him prove anything so he had to do it himself #and hinata actually showed a LOT of restraint for how he actually is imo #he accepted washijo's decision so easily. i think he knew in a way. that he wouldn't have been accepted #but he had to try SOMETHING bc he wasn't getting anywhere with everyone else!!!!#and my heart breaks whenever i think about taking suga taking kageyama's part in the early part of the story #about them not needing to try anything new or do anything risky so close to the tournament #hinata was so fucking shackled and that's why brazil was so good for him #it gave him a chance to grow into himself #ALSO EVERYONE KEEPS ACTING SURPRISED WHEN HE GETS BETTER AND BETTER WHEN THAT'S ALL HE EVER WANTED HELLO #hinata shouyou #haikyuu #haikyuu!!#haikyuu meta #sou says stuff
