Something I’ve seen a lot is people blame Alicent for not telling Rhaenyra about her meetings with the king, so I’m going to explain why she didn’t:

1. Alicent’s whole life to that point, was her constantly trying to be what her dad wanted her to be. Alicent’s mother died when she was very young, her only parental figure is her father. and I think to anyone with parents/parent who isn’t the best/isn’t a good parent, can vouch that it’s not easy to stop loving, to stop wanting to impress and make them proud, to stop obeying them. Especially for Alicent who was so young too.

2. Nowadays, Royalty is obviously not taken as seriously anymore. But back then and especially within the HOTD/GOT universe, the king was the most important figure. Disobeying the king, disrespecting the king, doing anything against the king was extremely outrageous and possibly treason.

3. Rhaenyra was her best friend. Her only friend, who she had confided in over the years. They were extremely close, and she felt safe with Rhaenyra and like Rhaenyra understood her as her friend.

Now let’s recognise that not only did Alicent’s father put her up to the task of talking with the king, but Viserys himself SPECIFICALLY asked Alicent to NOT tell Rhaenyra. Alicent doesn’t know the king, Alicent is scared to disappoint her father and she’s scared of what consequences she may face. Rightfully so, this king is a man 3x her age, she does not know him. She doesn’t know how he’d react if she did break the promise and tell Rhaenyra. But, Rhaenyra is her friend, she can assume that Rhaenyra may be mad, but eventually come to understand. Which does happen, Rhaenyra does come to understand that it is not what Alicent wanted.

Personally, If i were in that situation too, I would also not tell my best friend because that would be the safest and smartest course of action. I would rather trust that my closest friend will understand me and forgive me, than face unknown and possibly dire consequences by both the king and my father.

Alicent isn’t at fault. Neither is Rhaenyra. The only people to blame are the adult men who put them in this situation, who used and manipulated them.

Rhaenyra’s anger and her being upset was justified

And again, later on, we see that Rhaenyra is mostly angry at her father and she forgives and understands Alicent’s situation.

There’s also a lot of other reasons someone more intellectual than me could probably bring up too. But I think those are some of the main ones.
