OK SO I went to the SB theory chat and the topic of Planet X came up (obviously) and the ice giants were brought up too. We started debating on what would happen if they met and if Neptune might’ve even been friends with X and how he might’ve been in the Kuiper Belt alone bc he was looking for X after the ejection. Hence, his insanity. (Credits to Ichiro for coming up w/ that one)

I rlly rlly liked the idea of Planet X having a soft spot for the ice giants- they are similar, closest to the Kuiper Belt, and I don’t think they played a part in the ejection- Uranus likely stayed neutral as a bystander and Neptune might’ve not even known until after it happened, who knows? Regardless, I think the three would be really cool as a friend group.

(Maybe there might be an X ship with Uranus or maybe even Neptune?? I dont know if I’m with those ships or dislike them, it’s just a massive grey area for now cause we don’t rlly know a lot abt X. They be canonized as cousins, or just friends in the show. We’ll see.)

Ichiro

Used to kiss his younger bros goodnight when they were little kids. Now he does it now and then when he thinks they're asleep (Sabs caught him in the act, though).

Jiro

Had a small crush on a tomboy he met at the orphanage. They used to play football together. One day, she got adopted, and he never saw her again.

Saburo

Has a little music box given to him by his mother when he was a baby. It's the only clear memory he has of her, so he holds it dear. It's also the source of his fondness for classical music. Nobody knows where he hides it, though.

Samatoki

Used to do Nemu's hair after their mother passed. As a result of this, he's very good at styling hair.

Also used to sing to his sister, mostly to calm her down during his father's violent outbursts. He sometimes hums to himself while thinking of her.

Jyuto

Had a gay awakening when he was a teenager. An upperclassman approached him so cunningly and lifted his chin with his hand while questioning him about something, similar to how Jyuto questions guys now. He still thinks about that boy from time to time.

Rio

Went to the U.S. when he was 3 years old and stayed there with his father's family for three years. His father is Irish-American.

Ramuda

He's intersex, as are most of the clones created after him. Some of them, however, appeared to be fully male.

Likes collecting fashion dolls from time to time, and has four custom ones: one of each Fling Posse member and another of the former owner of Empty Candy, Hanabi Maijou.

He sometimes purrs unvoluntarily. Gentaro and Ramuda tease him for it.

Jakurai

Has sung Yotsutsuji to sleep on some occasions. He also did that to Hifumi and Doppo one night.

He was very popular with the girls back in the day, and word got out that he had a huge crush on someone. Hitoya even teased him for it. Little did he know that Jakurai's crush was Hitoya himself.

Hifumi

Was very effeminate growing up. He especially liked to play with his sister's necklaces and other jewelry.

Doppo

Cried when Jakurai sang them to sleep that one night.

He stims by drawing circles on the floor with his finger, something he has done since pre-school when he was alone. When he's angry or frustrated, he does it with his middle finger.

Sasara

Had a funny, contagious laugh when he was a baby or so his mother would say. Everyone who heard him in passing would smile or laugh as well. Maybe he was a comedian from the very start, after all.

Rosho

Learned to talk before he learned to walk and could say very complicated words and phrases for a toddler.

Rei

He can whine his hips pretty well.

Ichiro is the one who resembles him the most in his youth.

Sometimes, he sees himself and his wife/baby mama in Rosho and Sasara. He would never admit that to them, though.

Kuko

Can dabke and taught his teammates and also Ichiro how to dabke.

In the rare times when he feels like crying, he either meditates alone or next to someone he absolutely trusts, which, as of right now, includes his father Shakku, Hitoya, and Jyushi. The latter two were confused when it happened but felt more at ease and honored after Shakku explained this to them.

Jyushi

Sometimes does nail art on Kuko's nails.

He fluctuates between masc and femme styles on the daily. Kuko once mistook him for a young woman passing by when he came to the temple to greet him.

Hitoya

Was a big fat baby who grew into a skinny child.

Is actually swole.

Will become a father of girls (and the best father anyone could have).

Otome

In her teenage years, she would use poetry as a means to vent her frustrations. She would also go on to dedicate poems to her ex-husband and, later on, her first son Dice.

Was absolutely smitten with Dice in his first years, insisting on doing the motherly affairs by herself, much to the maid's dismay.

Really wanted a daughter and was seriously thinking about giving Dice a little sister before everything went down with her marriage.

Ichijuku

She and her sister would often wear matching bows to school in her younger years.

Lets Nemu adorn her hair with ribbons and flowers during their outings. She secretly loves the look, even if it looks messy.

Nemu

Was a premature child.

Is not good at styling her hair since it's something her mother and brother used to do for her. Sometimes, she unknowingly self-soothes by stroking it.

Was interested in ballet at some point in her childhood.

Queen of Bisexuality.

Honobono

Is a pretty good dancer and gymnast. She used to do ballet and acrobatics in her youth.

Was the type of girl who would absolutely destroy her dolls while playing with them.

Sleeps in a fetal position.

(Long post with some spoilers) Something fascinating about a sidequest in CoV

I know that I haven't been posting screenshots of Demon Haunt convos as frequently lately, but that's because I've been pushing through the game quite a lot to the end. Don't worry, though, for those who like them, they're still coming around as I make progress.

Anyway, I've been fascinated by this subquest, and it's not only because of the worldbuilding bits in regards to the demon summoning program as it's portrayed in SMTVV. As seen above, the game does acknowledge the use of technology in relation to the demons, and that the humans essentially have to do some things the old-fashioned way i.e. not going digital and using paper for security measures.

But what this researcher/sidequest giver says next is even more interesting, as seen in the next screenshots.

Some spoilers ahead for the novel series Digital Devil Story, which the MegaTen games are originally based off of! Read on if you don't mind and want to know my thoughts.

So you've decided to read on. Here are my thoughts on this:

Believe it or not, I love how this (possibly) relates to the very beginning of the SMT franchise, specifically Digital Devil Story. For those who don't know, Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei is the first novel of a trilogy by Aya Nishitani. Want a summary? It's about a genius highschooler named Akemi Nakajima, who develops the Demon Summoning Program to get back at his bullies (it's... complicated). And as future MegaTen installments are wont to do, things go horribly wrong as the program summons Loki and the Norse god wreaks havoc and kills people (and also... forces himself onto one of Nakajima's teachers and attempts to do the same to new transfer student/love interest Yumiko Shirasagi). In fact, Nakajima's actions end up causing the events of the rest of the trilogy, along with the events in the New Digital Devil Story hexalogy, which is a sequel series to the trilogy.

2. Continuing from #1, there's the name mentioned by the researcher: Atziluth. This is the name of the place where demons live and was first mentioned in Digital Devil Story (and in Strange Journey compendium entries); the games call it by other names such as Makai/the Expanse and the Netherworld/Da'at.

3. "Essentially, we perform pseudo-summons through computers to transmigrate demons into this world." This is pretty much what Nakajima does with the Demon Summoning Program, in that he used a computer with the program to summon Loki. For additional context, one should know that besides being a programmer, Nakajima is also an amateur magician, and previously came to a revelation that magic and programming are similar in that they had exact steps/algorithms that needed to be followed to produce a desired result.

I can only speculate as to how people in V's world came to have such tech, but my guess is that Bethel researchers at the very least had a hand in it, as Bethel is the one distributing phones with the DSP to people like Ichiro Dazai and Yuzuru Atsuta. If people can use phones to summon demons, why not through computers as well, just like how Nakajima did it with Loki?

To end this post, I just want to say that I like this worldbuilding in Vengeance. From what I understand, Atziluth sort of reminds me of the Digital World in Digimon, in that it's a place where monsters reside and can be taken into the human world through the use of technology. In fact, I'm reminded of what happens in Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth/Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory (which, btw, are great games and aren't exactly for kids, unlike much of the rest of the Digimon franchise).

Brynn leapt up as she heard a set of keys jangling, relaxing as she realised it was just Ichiro heading out. She hadn’t expected to be quite so nervous, but the more time that passed, the jumpier she became. Brynn: Ohh, hi! Ichiro smiled brightly as he craned his neck over the fence; uttering a string of words that Brynn didn’t understand. She held up her hands apologetically. Brynn: Uhm… Ichiro: Kaito? Brynn nodded, pointing toward Wyatt’s house and offering a shrug; he wasn’t in.

Ichiro: Hm, erh-… Ichiro paused for a moment before swinging his arms back and forth whilst panting, almost as though he were jogging on the spot. Brynn: Ah, he is running? Ichiro: Again. Ichiro nodded excitedly, glad that she’d understood. His accent was thick, clumsy and full of warmth; he was so cute, Brynn wanted to give him a cuddle. Brynn: [laughs] Again?! Ichiro: Again!

Without much to say to one another, Brynn and Ichiro fell silent, both smiling awkwardly. He expressed his dislike of the chilly weather by rubbing his arms exaggeratedly and frowning, showing her how his plants were suffering with a shake of his head. Eventually, he lifted his sleeve and tapped his watch, bidding her an apologetic farewell; he clearly had somewhere to be.

Wyatt had slowed upon nearing home, squinting in the fading sunlight. Who was Ichiro wittering to now? It wasn’t until he got closer that he sped up again, realising that the woman was Brynn; and wanting her to himself for a while, he couldn’t help but smile as Ichiro retreated.

He’d decided a while ago that if Brynn ever returned, he wouldn’t hide or diminish how much he’d missed her-.. doing so in front of his neighbour’s grinning gaze was a step too far, however. Ichiro was well aware of Wyatt’s soft spot for her by now, but that was beside the point.

Wyatt nodded a quick greeting, running straight past Ichiro. Ichiro: You don’t usually run so fast. Wyatt: Ha-ha. Ichiro: Didn’t I tell you to be patient? Wyatt: Don’t you have somewhere to be? Ichiro: [snickers] She is very sweet-.. sprint!

Brynn’s stomach flipflopped as Wyatt approached, her greeting interrupted as he practically crashed into her. Wyatt: You came back. Brynn: I did! Wyatt: You look exhausted… Brynn: [laughs] I am! Wyatt: I missed you-.. so much. Brynn: I miss you too.

Wyatt felt odd being honest and sappy, but it was true. He hadn’t ever imagined missing someone quite so painfully, and part of him had begun to worry she wouldn’t come back at all-.. he was beyond glad that she had. Brynn: Ough-.. you are all sweaty! Wyatt: That’s never bothered you before. Brynn returned Wyatt’s smirk with a nervous giggle, thankful for an excuse to keep her distance and pull away. She wanted nothing more than to hold him close, sweaty or not, though she had something rather momentous to reveal first.

Wyatt: Your hands are freezing-.. come inside. Brynn: I not mind the cold! Wyatt: I know, but I’d rather not greet you properly out here. Brynn tittered, heart beating a hundred miles an hour as Wyatt took her hand and led her inside. What the hell was she going to say-.. what the hell would he say?

Look Anon Bestie, I took pages of notes, and I was almost going to talk about how everyone's Hamartia (Ambition, Devotion/Loyalty, Power, etc) were just functions of Love where Exy was the conduit everyone had in common. I even almost talked about the importance of how everyone's Deep Wounds had their origins in Parents (sins of the father, parental neglect and attachment, parents as one's first lesson on love). And THEN I almost talked about how neither villains nor heroes are born, they're made and the personal decision to remake one's self in the aftermath of the forge that shaped you-

But fuck all that honestly. All I care about here is the classic Tragic Hero and Tragic Waste hooplah. "The hero dies in the end" and all that.

I know what you're probably thinking, "But Tragic Waste doesn't apply to AFTG because the Tragic Hero doesn't die in the end! Neil is alive and so are all the Foxes!" I get it, I do, but here's my take. The Tragic Hero isn't Neil.

It's Nathaniel.

Which immediately brings me to my opinion on how AFTG manages to have a Supernatural Element as well. "But AFTG takes place in the real world!" stop interrupting me- listen- Neil isn't fucking real. He is not a real boy. Pinocchio in his wood state is more real than Neil is. Andrew knew Neil wasn't real from the fucking jump and was on that boy like white on rice. Nathaniel knew Neil wasn't real - how many times did he try to hold back his home grown Smart Mouth A La Attitude Problem for the sake of his store bought Meek and Mild disposition? AKA how many times did he suppress his Material because it would ruin the integrity of his Form? From page one our Tragic Hero was Nathaniel Wesninski trying to survive blah blah blah pretend to be Neil blah blah blah leave Nathaniel buried in Baltimore with his father yadda yadda roll credits- Throughout the entire first three books Neil Josten starts basically obtaining Life and haunting the narrative. He was a painting that triggered the uncanny valley, he was a statue that seemed like it was gonna reach out and touch you, he was a mask that accidentally welded itself to your face like that one movie from the mid-90s. Nathaniel is trying to beat this fake-boy back with a stick while also keeping his name but it doesn't fucking work that way. Neil wanted friends. Neil wanted Exy. Neil wanted a home. Neil wanted to stay. Nathaniel? He could have had friends and a home and Exy in another life. But Mary rewrote history and said "Put on these masks. Hide, Nathaniel. These masks will help keep you safe." And it was working tbh. But then one of them came to life. And our Tragic Hero died to make room for him.

Whoops.

There's nothing fancy about my arguement here, only that AFTG really does fulfill the Shakespearean Tragedy format, Supernatural Elements and Hero Dies and all. Anyway, here's a couple excerpts from my notes that didn't make the cut in my final essay: "The tragedy? All the villans are dead. Drake, Riko, Nathan, etc. But the ghost will forever haunt the house (flashbacks, nightmares, triggers, scars) and those who remain inheret the ruins they didn't raze (Ichiro, Exy)." "The hero dies and the villain dies but both good and evil still prevail so catharsis is bittersweet and yet that's what makes it the most realistic."

kotaro has never been the best with fashion, but with the help of you and his teammates, he has gotten better at dressing his son up

I finished transcribing the the Ichiro Ohkouchi (G Witch series composition and script) interview included with the Season 2 Vol.3 Blu-Ray.

Here's a translation of the snippet about Suletta and Miorine's initial concepts:

Miorine, the deuteragonist, is a cool character. Did you mean for her to be a contrast to Suletta? Ohkouchi   Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury takes place on two main stages: the school and the corporate world. In the initial concept, Suletta was the protagonist of the school side, while you could call Miorine the protagonist of the corporate side. In those early drafts, Miorine stoically bore her burdens and was the mistress* of Suletta’s enemy – she was the direct opposite of her current character. The plan was to have Suletta and Miorine’s adverse circumstances reverberate against each other, until they finally meet and their destinies are transformed… something to that effect. But as we revised the scenario, we decided to place both of them in the school setting from the beginning. This way, the story became more straightforward and ignited more quickly – we could highlight their chemistry as soon as possible. Because we were writing an original series, instead of taking the audience’s attention for granted, we wanted to quickly start showcasing the story’s appeal. That's how we came up with the current version of Miorine, who has to take on the responsibilities of running a company while she attends the school. *TL Note: 愛人 (aijin); literal definition is “lover,” but its primary usage in modern Japanese is “a person, usually a woman, in a relationship with someone other than their legal spouse” aka “mistress”

Interesting that Mistress!Miorine was still a thing even after the pivot from the initial war-oriented concept to the school/corporate setting. The staff decided to make her a student character in order to bring Suletta and Miorine together earlier.

hiii yes !!! i havent come up with Too much of kaoris lore, so right now its in a pretty rough place butttttt long post ahead youve been warned!!!

kaori (she/they), known as caaory on viltrum, was somewhat of a troublemaker, leading her to be chided a lot. this caused her to be very soft spoken and shy. but when her powers developed, she greatly exceeded her peers when it came to skill and strength. (though, her hearing developed too strongly that it became more of an disadvantage than a power.)

when tasked to fight to the death with her friend, she refuses strongly. this was seen as a sign of weakness and was scheduled for execution. caaory, terrified, flew away from viltrum as fast as she could.

two viltrumites go after her and find her still flying away. they use force rather than negotiation, and caaory still shaken up, kills them out of fear. mortified with her actions, she flies even faster. at the threshold of passing out, she sees the nearest planet and crash lands onto earth.

a family that was driving past sees her passed out in a crater that she left in a field. it was a young couple, their kid, ichiro, and the mom's side of grandparents. they took caaory in, and when asked for her name, she answered as "caaory", but because the name was mistaken for a similar one, the spelling changed to kaori.

it was well known to that family that she had powers, as they had to reprimand her to repress them when she used it casually as if she still lived on viltrum.

for the first two years, she never talked apart from when she told them her name. ichiro seemed to be the only one to communicate with her in a way. because of him, she was able to come out of her shell more easily and begin to talk more.

also!! repressed sibling bitterness but im not sure how to word it

BIG time skip here since i have a little more developed for her when season 1 of invincible takes place.. also kaori trying to live somewhere close to normal as she can, never really becomes a superhero. but wanting to use her powers for good, uses them very sparingly if the situation required it.

anyways around mid season 1, kaori knowing that mark is the new superhero, invincible, offers to train him. she teaches him for a while, but because at the time is time management is Ass, their training eventually stopped.

in season 2, kaori is running late to a class in college, but amber helps her catch up on the stuff she missed. they get along well, and they find out that they both know about mark. after mark and amber break up, kaori, begins to spend more time with amber to help her get through the trauma from when an*ssa threatened to kill her. they eventually start dating but im not SUPER sure how it all happens yet.

after the events of season 2, kaori tries to begin to train mark again. he agrees, wanting to be stronger. mark, frustrated with himself accidentally hurts kaori during training. apologizing profusely, she dismissed it and kept training him.

so thats all that i have for her so far!!! sorry if i made it too detailed, its hard for me to word things in simple ways for Some strange reason but i cant wait to build even more on her character!! i hope you guys like her :D

Chapter 48

“You know, I broke up with Ichiro last year.” Akemi said, having decided to go another route of digging at me. “I think he’s had enough time to get over me. You should totally call him up, Ava. He wasn’t really for me, but he’d be great for you.”

“Actually, I am married.” I said, a smile instantly coming to my face as I thought of Shingen.

Akemi gasped. Then she laughed. “Oh, that’s such a funny joke, Ava.” She said. “You don’t have to worry about going for my leftovers. There’s no shame. Like I said, he’d actually be perfect for you.”

“She’s being serious.” Shoko said, getting annoyed on my behalf. “Kenji and I invited both of them to join us.”

“Yeah, sure.” Akemi replied. Her eyes were scanning the crowd and suddenly she perked up. “Oh, how do my boobs look?” She asked, adjusting her bikini top and posture so that her boobs stood out more.

“Why do you ask?” Shoko said.

“Because there is a total hottie coming this way.” Akemi answered, gesturing subtly with her eyes.

I followed her line of sight, hoping that there was some guy she’d be interested in coming to get her to leave us alone. Of course, my eyes were greeted by the sight of my own husband. Akemi apparently didn’t even notice Kenji walking beside him.

“Dude is a total beefcake.” Akemi gushed. “Oh my gosh, he’s headed straight for me.”

No me. I thought, but I would let her think what she wanted for now. It would be clear soon enough.

“There’s my goddess.” Shingen’s voice, smooth as velvet said, his gray eyes on me.

“Oh, goddess. That’s a new one, but I’ll gladly take it.” Akemi said, batting her eyelashes at Shingen.

Shingen completely ignored her and came to sit down beside me. “Here you are, my love. I brought you your drink.” He said, smoothly handing me my margarita before wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me close, kissing me on the lips.

I smiled up at him, completely forgetting about Akemi…and well everyone and everything else. “Thank you, my love.” 

Kenji had already sat down beside Shoko, who was laughing. “Akemi, you might want to close your mouth. Flies might get in.”

“I…” Akemi said, making me aware of her presence once again.

“Oh, we have another guest?” Shingen asked. “I didn’t notice. Once I see my beautiful wife, everyone else just fades away.” He was then hugging me closer and kissing me on the cheek.

“Yes.” I replied. I wasn’t normally one for revenge… but after all the things Akemi had put me through in school…it felt nice to see her stunned for once. “This is Akemi, she’s an old classmate of mine and Shoko’s. Akemi, this is Shingen, my husband.”

Akemi was blinking as she looked between me and Shingen. “I…I don’t believe it.” She muttered.

“I know.” Shingen said. “It is still hard for me to believe that this beautiful goddess really is my wife, but I thank the heavens every day for her.”

“Oh, Shingen.” I said, my cheeks reddening as I snuggled closer to him. Though it seemed he knew what was going on with Akemi, I didn’t doubt that the words he said were true. 

“Seriously?” Akemi asked, her eyes wide and her “friendly” mask dropping completely. “You really think she’s that amazing? Especially when I am right here.”

“What do you have to do with anything?” Shingen asked. “Besides, no one can compare to my angel here. She has my heart completely.”

I had to sip on my margarita to hide my satisfied smile. I was definitely enjoying seeing Akemi squirm. She thought Shingen would fall all over himself for her, but he was all mine.

“I…” Akemi began, searching for words, but unable to find any.

Shingen was pulling me closer still. “My angel, how about we go dance?” He asked me, gesturing to the dance area that had been set up. They were playing some upbeat music with a bouncing beat that had couples rocking together on the dance floor.

“Sure.” I answered, smiling at him.

“We’ll watch your drinks.” Shoko said.

I smiled at her. “Thanks.”

Shingen and I sat our drinks down and then Shingen was rising to his feet, offering me his hand. I took it and allowed him to pull me to my feet. Once he did, he was instantly pulling me close, one arm wrapping around my waist as he led me to the dance floor.

Once we got to the dance floor, Shingen wrapped those big strong arms around me and pulled me close until my body was flush against his. I smiled up at him as I lifted my arms to wrap around the back of his neck. “How is it you always know exactly what I need?” I asked him, smiling up at him.

“I could tell by your posture and the look on your face that the other woman was an unwelcome guest.” Shingen replied, one hand gliding down my spine before coming to rest at the small of my back as we began to rock our bodies together to the beat of the music. “And then Kenji confirmed it by telling me who she was to you.”

“I see.” I replied. “Well, thank you for coming to my rescue.”

Shingen smiled at me. “I will always happily come to you when you need me.” He said, leaning his forehead to press to mine so he could look into my eyes. “I don’t want you to ever have to worry or doubt about anything.”

I smiled. “I appreciate that.” I said. “You always make me feel so loved…getting to see that look on her face was just a bonus.”

Shingen chuckled. “I hope you always feel that way.” He said. “You know…something else I love about this time?”

“What’s that?” I asked.

“This style of dancing.” He answered with a grin. “It’s definitely similar to making love.”

I felt my cheeks flush. “That must be why you’re so good at it without even trying.”

Shingen flashed me a puckish grin before leaning in and kissing my lips, then trailing down the side of my neck, nipping at my ear, causing pleasant tingles to run over my flesh. “I am glad to know, my goddess is pleased.” He murmured in my ear.

“Mmm…I think I am pleased just as long as you are near.” I replied, feeling quite happy in his arms. 

“What do you say…we head back to our room at the beach house?” Shingen asked, his velvety tone seductive.

“Hmmm…but we’ll miss the fireworks over the water…” I replied, though what Shingen was offering would have me seeing a completely different set of fireworks.

“We could…leave the window open.” Shingen suggested, kissing my neck, his calloused fingertips dancing low over the skin of my back. “Though once I get started, I don’t think you’ll care too much about the fireworks…”

I giggled. “Mmm…I believe you’re right…also, I don’t think I can really say no to such a seductive offer.”

Shingen grinned at me. “What did I ever do to earn the favor of such a goddess?” He asked. He was then scooping me up into his arms and carrying me away from the dancefloor and back to the beach house.

Shoko, Kenji, and Akemi…

“Well, looks like we won’t want to be going back to the beach house for a bit.” Shoko said with a laugh. “Also looks like I get an extra drink.”

Kenji chuckled. “It would seem that way. Of course, it’s not like the boys would be ready to go back anyways.”

“True.” Shoko agreed. She was then turning a smug smile to Akemi. “You doing alright over there?”

“I just…I don’t get it.” Akemi said.

Shoko looked over the drink in her hand at Akemi. “It’s simple, they’re in love. And the truth of the matter is, Ava is a better person than you. All of us who care about Ava, genuinely care. She’s a kind person. And you may be pretty on the outside, Akemi, but inside you’re the most ugly selfish, self centered, bitch and unless you change, you’re gonna die alone.”

Akemi scoffed. “Why you…”

“She’s right, Akemi.” Kenji said. He was then standing up and offering Shoko his hand. “Let’s go enjoy this party with our boys, huh?”

Shoko smiled. “I think that sounds wonderful.”

The pair walked off, leaving a stunned Akemi all alone. “I’m a delight…there’s something wrong with all of them.” She muttered to herself. She then let out a huff as she rose, pulling her cell phone from a bag. “I’ll just have to make a phone call. I’ll remind everyone who is the best.”

What's your top fic recs for AFTG with a kid?

Happy you asked, I was going to go through my ao3 history and drop all Neil wiith a kid fics I've read so far under that post :D

But first, I'm not kidding when I say that this fandom desperately needs a unified tagging system for Neil and children. May I propose:

Parent Neil Josten - Neil is a grown up adult with a mortgage and everything. This tag is already packed with soft Andreil and their adopted children, which is great (but not what we're looking for here!)

Teenage parent Neil Josten feels like a tag that should exist (and I could swear on my life that I've seen it used but tag search came up with nothing). This would be reserved for Neil becoming a biological parent to a child while on the run (or 13-17/18 in AUs)

Neil Josten Has A Kid would encompass any fic where Neil took responsibility for a child of any age and origin before he developed a good support system.

Upon entering their apartment, the two younger Yamada brothers were greeted with the smell of food. Jiro could feel his mouth water and Saburo closed his eyes and hummed in delight. It seemed their oldest brother was making dinner already. Which was good, as they were both starving.

“It smells amazing, Nii-chan.” Jiro called out, dropping his backpack off at the door.

Both brothers were surprised to see you peak around the corner with a cheerful smile. “I’m happy to hear it, Jiro. Ichiro stepped out for a minute, but he should be back soon. Dinner’s not ready yet, so the two of you have time to get started on your homework.”

“Ah, what?” Jiro whined, which made Saburo laugh.

“You need all the help you can, so you better get to work.”

“HUH? WHAT’S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?!”

“HEY!” You pointed the spoon you were cooking at them threateningly. “If you two are just going to cause trouble, you can take it outside. I just cleaned this place.”

Both boys dropped their fists and hung their heads. “We’re sorry.”

“Mhmm.” You tsked under your breath before returning to the stove. “Dinner should be ready to go in about twenty minutes. Ichiro should be back around that time, so let’s see how much you can get done in that time. Whoever gets the most work done will get extra dessert.”

That seemed to satisfy them both as they scrambled to get out their homework and get to work. You kept a chuckle to yourself as you continued cooking. It seemed the bargaining strategies you also used with Ichiro seemed to work with his brothers as well. You’d have to save this information for later so you could exploit the hell out of it.

As the twenty minutes passed by, you’d occasionally have to scold the boys for bickering too loudly, but it went pretty smoothly. Dinner smelled divine and you were ready to dish it out when the door to the apartment opened again.

“Ichi-nii! I got all of my homework done faster than Jiro!” Saburo called out to his oldest brother.

“HEY!” Jiro shot back at him. “I got all of my homework done too!”

“Not as fast as me. That means I’ll get more dessert tonight!”

“LIKE HELL!”

“WANNA PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS?!”

“GUYS!” Ichiro finally shouted over the two of them before sighing. “I’m proud of you both for getting your work done so quickly. But what do you mean extra dessert tonight?”

Saburo pointed to the kitchen, where you were finishing up dinner. “Y/n said.”

You weren’t really paying attention to the brothers behind you, which is why you jumped when you felt Ichiro hug you from behind, placing his head on your shoulder.

“Smells good, babe.”

“Good, I’m glad. If you want to help me serve it, I’ll give you some extra dessert tonight as well.”

He hummed against your shoulder, understanding your double entendre. “You always know exactly what to say. When the boys are in bed tonight, I’ll take that dessert.”

“Get a room, you two!” Jiro groaned.

You felt Ichiro tense against you and you laughed. “Don’t tell me the great Yamada Ichiro is embarrassed about a little playful teasing!”

“Shut up.”

“Alright, alright. Dinner is getting cold. So let’s eat!” 

Pulling away from Ichiro, you handed a plate to Saburo. Ichiro grabbed Jiro’s plate and the four of you ate together at the small kitchen table. Conversation came easy, as you all talked about your days and the new anime that was coming out in less than a month that all three boys were excited to start watching. Jiro was annoyed to see Saburo get his extra dessert, but you managed to sneak him some more when he flashed some pleading eyes. Ichiro winked at you but kept his mouth shut. 

Anyone outside looking in would think the four of you made a perfect family. And it was nights like this that made you believe the same. It really was the perfect night.

After watching some TV with the boys, Ichiro shooed Jiro and Saburo to bed. Of course they complained, but you simply told them that if they stayed, they’d have to watch you and Ichiro snuggle together. That easily got them off to bed without further delay.

When Ichiro was sure they wouldn’t be coming out anytime soon, he hovered over you. “So, about that extra dessert?”

You rolled your eyes. “You’re insatiable.”

“And you promised.”

“I suppose I did.” You pressed a kiss to his lips. “But I gotta say, tonight was the perfect night.”

He hummed against your lips, holding you close. “You’re right. Days like this, I think you’d be the perfect older sister to Jiro and Saburo.”

You chuckled. “Slow down, Ichi. Put a ring on it first and then we can talk about being the older sister to your brothers.”

“I intend to, someday.” He mumbled.

“I can’t wait for someday.”
