This is not a political post
One more time, in caps and bold: THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL POST. But if I can, as a diplomat and a historian, bring some extra context and try and understand what happened today in S's world, so be it. Enough said about me.
I am fumbling with a ton of thoughts since this morning, when this link was shared with me by one of the closest people in my platoon:
In a nutshell: S signed that (in)famous letter, an initiative of APUK (Artists for Palestine UK), a network that's been operating since 2015. You can read it in full if you open the link and I suggest you do. You will soon find out that the letter, while correctly pointing out the atrocious gesture of bombing a civilian hospital in Gaza, asked the world's governments to 'end their military and political support for Israel’s actions'. Nowhere in that letter did the word Hamas appear, which would immediately point out as supporting what is a terrorist movement that is, alas, also part and parcel of the Palestinian government, under Mahmoud Abbas's weak, irrelevant aegis. The man is an old PLO/Fatah crone: fishy, ineffective and fairly corrupted. His position on the Holocaust is, to be elegant, a study in ambiguity. Enough said.
It is pointless and absurd to try and explain the whole situation in detail. I would have to go back at least to the Balfour Declaration (1919) or the no less infamous end of the British/LoN/UN Palestine Mandate (1948), if I wanted to simply scratch the surface of a subject that is everywhere these days. With an intensity of absolutely legitimate emotions that can simply not be measured by any counter on this planet, as we speak.
But the facts are here, and naĂŻve S had no damn idea: 500 civilians were killed, Tuesday night, in the bombing of the al-Ahli Baptist/Arab Hospital in Gaza City. Hullaballoo ensued on a cataclysmic scale: first, Hananya Naftali, a digital aide to Benjamin Netanyahu recklessly wrote on X that the "Israeli army [Tsahal] bombed a Hamas terrorist base inside a hospital in Gaza". Then erased the tweet. Several video collages released by the Tsahal, the first of which was heavily contested by a NYT journalist (and former Bellingcat researcher) Aric Toler, point out towards the PIJ (Palestinian Islamic Jihad)'s forces being responsible for the strike.
These quotes from an Al Jazeera paper sum up the ensuing scandal better than I ever could - selected by me, but you can and probably should read it all (https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/10/18/what-is-israels-narrative-on-the-gaza-hospital-explosion):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No craters mean no airstrike and most probably a rocket failure. The uneasiness remained, that being said, at the highest level. And the planned US-Egypt-Jordan- Palestine talks hosted by Amman were abruptly called off hours before Biden landed in Tel Aviv.
To cut the story short: the letter is right to point out that you just don't bomb hospitals when you are at war, as per the terms of the Fourth 1949 Geneva Convention, dealing with the protection of civilians in times of war. Both Israel (signed in 1949/ratified in 1951) and Palestine (2014) are, as parties and signatories, legally bound by it, in the eyes of International Law. The only problem with it is that it purposefully omits to put things into context (whodunnit) and forgets the cynical truth: Hamas keeps hundreds of innocent Israelis and two millions of innocent Gaza civilians as its hostages.
Article 18 is at the core of the matter:
Tumblr media
The last thing S should have done is to sign that fucking treacherous letter, without getting a second (third, fourth...) opinion.
S is a good man, we all know and love this about him. He is also one of the most naĂŻve people I have ever seen in this lifetime. This is why his final reaction really, really moved this cynic, here:
Tumblr media
I am taking this home and keep it. It deeply moved me (yes, me):
" I don't know nearly enough and trying to educate myself on the conflicts in the Middle East. I feel helpless and wish I could help in some way.'
I am sure 'someone nice' called and 'nicely asked", maybe even offered some scarce and biased details, to prompt an impulse signature. I am also sure S didn't read the letter himself. There is no harm saying you were wrong. He did it with dignity and grace - no, it was not easy.
This is a man of worth speaking. Bravo!
But for the love of all that's holy, Sir: don't you ever step into this kind of shit again. These things are far more complex than you could ever fathom and it's a very cynical world out there. Leave it to us, we are handsomely paid for it by our governments. I hear you and I am completely supporting this more than welcome withdrawal. It's not worth much, for sure. But it is an honest POV.
Also, John 8:7:
So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
Kindly refrain from politics in your comments. Let's not drag trash where it should not be, ever. Thank you all.

US airdrops food into Gaza in move criticised by aid groups
US plan has been criticised as inefficient while Israel continues blocking most aid trucks from entering Gaza by land.
(2 Mar 2024)
United States military cargo planes have air-dropped food into Gaza, in the first of series of aid drops as humanitarian groups criticise Israel for blocking access to the besieged and bombarded strip.
The US, together with Jordan’s air force, “conducted a combined humanitarian assistance airdrop into Gaza … to provide essential relief to civilians affected by the ongoing conflict”, US Central Command said in a statement on Saturday.
The C-130 planes “dropped over 38,000 meals along the coastline of Gaza allowing for civilian access to the critical aid”, it added, as the enclave faces a humanitarian crisis after almost five months of war.
US President Joe Biden had announced a day earlier that the US would airdrop aid there after more than 100 Palestinians were killed on Thursday in northern Gaza while queuing for aid.
US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on Friday that the US will carry out multiple airdrops in the next few weeks, which will be coordinated with Jordan.
Kirby said the airdrops have an advantage over trucks because planes can move aid to a particular area quickly. However, in terms of volume, the airdrops will be “a supplement to, not a replacement for moving things in by ground”, he added.
The Biden administration is also considering shipping aid by sea from Cyprus, according to a US official.
Since Israel’s war began on October 7 following Hamas’s attack, Israel has barred the entry of food, water, medicine and other supplies, except for a tiny trickle of aid entering the south from Egypt at the Rafah crossing and Israel’s Karem Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) crossing.
‘The US is weak’
The US’s move has been criticised as inefficient and simply a public relations move by members of international aid organisations.
“The airdrops are symbolic and designed in ways to appease the domestic base,” Dave Harden, former USAID director to the West Bank, told Al Jazeera. “Really what needs to happen is more crossings [opening] and more trucks going in every day.”
“I think the United States is weak and that’s really disappointing to me,” Harden added. “The US has the ability to compel Israel to open up more aid and by not doing that we’re putting our assets and our people at risks and potentially creating more chaos in Gaza.”
UK-based charity Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) echoed Harden’s statement, telling Al Jazeera in a statement that the US, the UK and others should instead work to “ensure that Israel immediately opens all crossings into Gaza for aid.”
Oxfam also blasted the Biden administration’s plans, labelling the effort an attempt to assuage the guilty consciences of US officials.
“While Palestinians in Gaza have been pushed to the absolute brink, dropping a paltry, symbolic amount of aid into Gaza with no plan for its safe distribution would not help and be deeply degrading to Palestinians,” Scott Paul, who leads Oxfam’s US government advocacy work, said in a statement on X.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry also criticised the US for acting as a “weak, marginal state” unable to secure aid to Palestinians.
US Senator Bernie Sanders, however, welcomed the US’s move.
“I applaud President Biden for understanding that there is a dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza,” Sanders said on X.
Mahjoob Zweiri, the director of the Gulf Study Centre in Doha, told Al Jazeera the international community is not putting enough pressure on Israel to allow the waiting aid trucks to enter Gaza by land.
“Why not send food in through Karem Abu Salem?” Zweiri said. “There are 2,000 trucks waiting to get into Gaza” at border crossings, he said, while food and medicines pile up for months past their expiry dates.
“Why isn’t the international community not putting enough effort into delivering aid in an organised manner?” he asked.

You do realize that river to the sea is about ethnic cleansing right? Maybe not a good thing to be standing by. Can't rightfully claim a genocide if the people purporting are trying to stop the people who have explicitly said they want every one of them dead world wide
🇵🇸From the River to the Sea! Palestine will be FREE!🇵🇸
Some genocide sympathiser needs a history lesson. I'm mostly a comic blogger.....but I'm also a history student so here it is.
The phrase "From the river to the sea" was born as a Zionist phrase indicating where the supposed "Israeli state" was to be, which we can also see echoed in Israeli political statements welcoming the colonisation of Palestinian land, such as that of the Likud Party in 1977: “between the Sea and the Jordan there will only be Israeli sovereignty”. (Kelley, 2019)
In the middle of the 1960s, the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) took the phrase back in a call for de-colonisation; the 1964 and 1968 charters of the Palestine National Council (PNC) demanded “the recovery of the usurped homeland in its entirety” and the recovery of rights to the indegenous population, including right to self-determination. This has ZERO to do with antisemitism; the PNC did not want to remove Jews from a Palestinian nation, just the settler-colonists. The 1964 Charter states that "Jews who are of Palestinian origin shall be considered Palestinians if they are willing to live peacefully and loyally in Palestine” and the rhetoric would become more inclusive following the 1967 war, when the PLO merged with Arab National Movement and the Palestine Liberation Front to form the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP); which espoused Third World-oriented nationalism and Marxist-Leninism. The PFLP call for a single, secular, democratic, and possibly socialist Palestinian state in which all peoples enjoy citizenship, embracing ALL Jews as citizens. “If we are fighting a Jewish state of a racial kind, which had driven the Arabs out of their lands, it is not so as to replace it with an Arab state which would in turn drive out the Jews. . . . We are ready to look at anything with all our negotiating partners once our right to live in our homeland is recognized,” said one Fatah leader. “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” was therefore a call for a single, democratic, secular state to replace the genocide committing ethno-religious state of so-called "Israel". (Kelley, 2019)
Kelley, R.D. (2019) ‘From the river to the sea to every mountain top: Solidarity as Worldmaking’, Journal of Palestine Studies, 48(4), pp. 69–91. doi:10.1525/jps.2019.48.4.69.
So, NOT antisemitic. The media, right wing and "Western" states's fear mongering and criminalisation of the phrase is an attempt to stifle anti-imperialist, anti-colonial voices, and somehow justify so-called "Israel"'s slaughter, cleansing and oppression of Palestinians by dehumanising them.
Next off, if you're so concerned about antisemitism, oppression and the safety of Jewish people, I think you're better off organising in person with anti-fascists around you who oppose literal white supremacists and nazis whenever they pull a hateful stunt instead of playing victim online to people showing solidarity for Palestine.
Moreover. So-called "Israel" is committing a genocide. This state is built on the back of mass ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their homelands and the state never stopped. Zionism is by definition a fascist project that seeks to create an ethnostate on stolen land through the oppression and genocide of its indigenous population; the Palestinian people. It's an imperialist and settler colonial project that is backed by fellow settler colonial states such as the US and former colonial powers such as the UK. There is nothing that can justify settler colonialism, apartheid and ethnic cleansing. NOTHING. Not by the British Empire, not by Apartheid South Africa, not by Nazi Germany, and not by so-called "Israel" and its imperialist allies.
The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine 1948 by Ilan Pappe
No Muslim, Jew, Christian or Agnostic on that land is free until they're allowed to live as equals under a single, secular nation, and the Palestinians people are allowed to return to their homeland. No one in the world is free until we are ALL free!
Anon, where do you stand when, as of now, around 19,000 Palestinians have been murdered since Oct 7 by the so-called "Israeli" regime, backed by some of the most powerful nations in the world? When the Palestinian people have suffered 75 years of forced displacement, and state-back massacre, terror and discrimination. What the fuck did children in Gaza do to deserve being born into this hell on Earth? I'd hope you choose to stand on the right side of history but frankly it doesn't matter; in our thousands and in our millions, in our millions and in our billions— all of us who march and chant and organise and act and stand in solidarity with the oppressed— we are ALL Palestinians and we will see a free Palestine in our fucking lifetime.
Free the people, free the land! Justice is our demand!
Free the people, free them all! Occupation has to fall!
Free the people, free the land! No peace on stolen land!
Free the people, free them all! Break the chains and let them fall!
Free, free Palestine! Stop- the genocide! End- apartheid! De-DECOLONISE!
🇵🇸From the Sea to the River! Palestine will live forever!🇵🇸

There is an interhouse common room called the Hall of Concurrence (nicknamed Conkers) that has a tuck shop selling crisps, sweets, pasties etc.; a retro television that shows quidditch matches and wizarding tv channels; and lots of game equipment like pool tables, chess sets, board games etc. The tuck shop also does popcorn for weekend film nights and every Monday the folk club do an informal music session anyone can come and listen to.
Each common room has a kitchenette for making hot drinks and fixing a quick breakfast before quidditch practice. All the mugs are magically tailored to each student and there is an informal doling ceremony at the beginning of the year where we find the perfect mug for us
Hogsmeade has a muggle style corner shop with a post office so muggleborns can go buy their favourite childhood brands or send their parents a letter via muggle post
The three broomsticks hosts a pub quiz every other Sunday and there is an informal house tournament throughout the year to see who can accumulate the most points - the winning house gets a trophy and a butterbeer discount for the next academic year
There is a player of the match trophy for every quidditch game and a player of the tournament each year
On Dumbledore's memorial day Hogwarts hosts a ten pin bowling tournament that all the professors are contractually obliged to take part in.
There is a statue of dobby outside the kitchens and his socked feet are gold from being rubbed by students for good luck in their exams and love life
Lee Jordan has a radio sketch show called Lee Jordan's Magic Show that is super popular and lots of students tune in on the common room radios every week
It is tradition to sing Caledonia out the windows of the Hogwarts Express as it leaves platform 9 ž (I am so in love with this one I would say it's my most vivid dr memory? I can feel the passion in yelling 'let me tell you that i love you, that I'll think about you all the time' at my parents with a chorus of dewy eyed students it's so vivid in my mind god i need to shift)

hi jordan!
just thought of sending you a msg esp of what's happening in my life and well jist having nostalgic moments seeing ypur other readers share their stories. discovered your blog sometome over 3-4 yrs ago while im in my residency training. first its just bc i think "floralseokjin" is cute. and then i followed you on twitter and then you followed back and i felt like i have this friend from far away every time you update both here and on twt.
i admit i only read one-shots before. actually i dont want myself to get involve in ais and fanfics but well pandemic happened and i started reading your fics bc im stuck in the callroom alone with nothing to do (i was assigned in pandemic wards and intubation team then so im in a separate callroom). this might be weird and funny for some but the crystallised and pbn couple accompanied me through the most difficult part of my training. lol i would do doctor stuff in the ward and then would hurry myself back to finish a chapter of the fic. it's something to look forward to.
and then i got out of the cell (that's how i felt) after 3 yrs of hard work and discovering/reading ALL of your fics. and i even get to read some of your book and manhwa recos. and here we are, i am about to take the boards. somehow i am thankful that you haven't updated 9mtfil bc i have to focus on studying. haha!
thank you for sharing your talent in writing. most of the stories are not something i can relate to but they definitely entertain me. also bc u update at the wee hrs of the morning (sgt) when i just finished studying so the timing is good.
my exams are next weekend (wish me luck pray for me) and i cant wait to have myself dive into nonmedical books soon. also need updates on mu crystallised and pbn couples. and excited for my 9mtfil family! i missed a lot of them!
take lots of care, jordan! if i do visit your country as a gift for myself, will u meet up with me? haha!
also, i love to draw. i made some sketches for the crystallised couple (yknow like what they do in manhwa) and i would love to show them to you.
hello! What a lovely message to find in my inbox! ☺️ Thank you and I’m so touched that my writing could entertain you during busy and stressful times. I’m a little late to responding to this so your exams are probably over, but I hope they went well for you! I’m sure they did~ Did I read that right? We’re twitter mutuals?! Now I’m curious! I would absolutely love to see the sketches you’ve done for crystallised couple, they sound so exciting! Thank you! and ahhh just tell me if you’re ever in the uk! I’ll see what I can do 😁 Thank you once again for this kind message, it means a lot to me. Please take care 💖

APPENDIX 1 Sanctions and Their Effects on Iraq BRIEF SUMMARY
August 6, 1990: United Nations Security Council passes Resolution 661, placing sanctions on Iraq to 'restore the authority of the legitimate government of Kuwait. (That government, 'legitimate' or not, was restored within months. By what criterion is restoration of monarchy ever 'legitimate'? The sheikhs of Kuwait were never required to offer themselves for electoral challenge or even referendum.)
April 5, 1991: UN Security Council passes Resolution 688 that 'demands that Iraq' end its repression 'of all Iraqi citizens. (By these standards, virtually every government in the world should have to face similar sanctions.)
May 20, 1991: President George H. Bush: 'At this juncture, my view is we don't want to lift these sanctions as long as Saddam Hussein is in power. (The declared policy of regime change is as old as that.)
September 24, 1992: The New England Journal of Medicine publishes the findings of Harvard researchers that 46,700 Iraqi children under five have died from the combined effects of war and trade sanctions in the first seven months of 1991.
May 12, 1996: On 60 Minutes, Lesley Stahl asks US Secretary of State Madeline Albright: 'We have heard that a half a million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. Is the price worth it?' Albright responds: 'I think this is a very hard choice, but the price… we think the price is worth it'.
October 4, 1996: United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) releases report on Iraq. 'Around 4,500 children under the age of five are dying here every month from hunger and disease', said Philippe Heffinck, UNICEF's representative for Iraq.
November 26, 1997: UNICEF reports that 'The most alarming results are those on malnutrition, with 32 per cent of children under the age of five, some 960,000 children, chronically malnourished - a rise of 72 per cent since 1991. Almost one quarter (around 23 per cent) are underweight - twice as high as the levels found in neighbouring Jordan or Turkey'.
April 30, 1998: UNICIF [sic] reports: 'The increase in mortality reported in public hospitals for children under five years of age (an excess of some 40,000 deaths yearly compared with 1989) is mainly due to diarrhea, pneumonia and malnutrition. In those over five years of age, the increase (an excess of some 50,000 deaths yearly compared with 1989) is associated with heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, cancer, liver or kidney diseases.
October 6, 1998: Denis Halliday, who had just resigned as the head of the 'oil-for-food' programme for Iraq, Assistant Secretary General of the UN, gives a speech on Capitol Hill, citing a 'conservative estimate' of 'child mortality for children under five years of age is from five to six thousand per month.
In 1995, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization concluded that the embargo and the military attacks on Iraq had been responsible for the deaths of more than 560,000 children. A UNICEF study reached a similar conclusion, finding that 500,000 children had died needlessly between 1991 and 1998.
Blocked by the US and UK governments, with UN connivance: vaccines, cancer-treatment equipment, pain-killers, plasma bags, food treatment equipment and myriad other items of medical need, over fourteen years, worth $5.4 billion as of July 2002.
Karl and John Mueller, writing in Foreign Affairs ('Sanctions of Mass Destruction', May/June 1999), concluded that the sanctions had killed more Iraqis than had been killed by 'all the weapons of mass destruction in human history.

Wimbledon MD F: Harri Heliovaara/Henry Patten def. Max Purcell/Jordan Thompson [15] 6-7(7), 7-6(8), 7-6(9) Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 BBC iPlayer
While the margin appeared thin between them, Heliopatten managed to make the most out of the tie-breaker even if they won 10 points lesser than the Australian pair (116 to 126). Through some pacing and anticipation, they turned the tables around several times in the match, saving 3 match points while utilizing the open court well to construct and finish their points. Even though the 15th seeds won twice more return winners than Heliopatten (8 to 4), being balanced between the baseline and the net also became crucial for either of them to stand out. As such, even though Thomcell had 3 break points (1 was the second-set match point), Heliopatten was able to save them, thus the non-conversion and everything went back to the tie-breakers.
Interestingly, Thomcell appeared more solid on serve. Firing 15 aces than Heliopatten's 2, the Australian 15th seed landed 68% of their first serves and had an outstanding first serve winning percentage at 82%, 5% more than Heliopatten, which helped them to avoid trouble at times. In contrast, Heliopatten's second serves appeared more vulnerable even though they double-faulted just twice (than Thomcell's 3) as they only won 60% of their second serve points, 14% lesser than Thomcell, but their point construction on return also made up for it.
This marked Heliopatten's fifth overall year-to-date title, but they won it across Tours since they first paired up in April: 2 Challenger-level titles in Madrid (100) and Turin (175), 2 ATP 250-level titles in Marrakech and Lyon, and Wimbledon was their maiden Grand Slam title as a pair, becoming the first pair to do so this year after Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo in 2017 and Kevin Krawietz/Andreas Mies in 2019. To add, H. Patten soared to the doubles Top 20 next week to be the new UK doubles #2, coming a long way from interning as an IBM statistician when he studied in the University of North Carolina-Ashville, while H. Heliovaara also worked in the airport after pursuing his studies after his retirement in 2013 before he picked up the racquet again in 2017 and returned to the game, mostly doubles due to his Ankylosing spondylitis diagnosis. Meanwhile, M. Purcell won in 2022 (with Matthew Ebden) in a best-of-five format, where this year he became the runner-up in a full best-of-three format. Breathtaking.

Agrochemicals Products Market: Global Industry Analysis and Forecast 2023 – 2030
Global Agrochemicals Products Market Size Was Valued at USD 206.39 Billion In 2021 And Is Projected to Reach USD 288.48 Billion By 2028, Growing at A CAGR of 4.6 % From 2022 To 2028.
Any material used in agriculture, including synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides, is referred to as an agrochemical. Most are chemical mixes consisting of two or more compounds; the inert ingredients stabilize, protect, or make the administration of the active ingredients easier while the active ingredients deliver the desired effects.
In regions like the Great Plains, agrochemicals have increased per-acre output by 200–300% since the 1930s when they were combined with other technological advancements like tractors, mechanical harvesters, and irrigation pumps. They are controversial subjects, as are the stability of the agricultural systems that use them and their long-term effects on the environment.
Farmers can grow more crops on an acre area for longer periods of time with the use of agrochemicals. By shielding crops from pests, diseases, and weeds, they guarantee a healthy yield. Because less land is required to produce rich yields, it also decreases the rate of deforestation, which is good for the environment. Furthermore, the land's pristine state is preserved.

SHORT NOTICE: CASY Cultural Autism Studies (The Ethnography Project led by Dr. Dawn Prince-Hughes) is delighted to welcome Tito Rajarshi Mukhopadhyay next Monday, March 11, 12:00 p.m. EDT.
There is no cost to attend, and international participants are invited to join. RSVP online though our borderless Meetup group https://www.meetup.com/projectcasy/events/299625613/
-------------------------
DESCRIPTION (provided by the guest): I am Tito Rajarshi Mukhopadhyay.
I began composing poetry and prose from an early age.
True! An Autism diagnosis closes many doors. One of them was a regular structure of general education classroom.
I needed to turn a disadvantage into an advantage. Sometimes the challenges can open other doors to cultivate different interests. I had time to develop my interest in creative writing.
While the typical world of ‘others’ solved problems in arithmetic and structured science homework, studied for grades in classes, learned where the War of Somme happened, I practiced a different skill. I practiced word sculpture by creating stories, writing poetry and other compositions. I engaged in literature - first through Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, William Blake, Robert Frost and many many great writers… learning from each book ‘how to organize stories and poetry’ until I met Dr. Ralph Savarese who mentored me through the process of sharpening my skills. One thing leads to another in the passage of existence.
My first book - Beyond the Silence was published when I was 11 years old. The National Autistic Society was kind enough to give me a printed book of my words. Since then, I had more opportunities to be published: The Mind Tree, How Can I Talk if My Lips Don’t Move?, Plankton Dreams, Teaching Myself to See, Creating the Faces and Other Poems and more.
I continue to write poetry and prose as part of my own discipline. Everything may not be for publishing. Some may be just a stray text which I call practice writing. I like writing a good sentence now and then.
I am honored to be featured in CNN, BBC, Good Morning America, 60 minutes, HBO documentary - A Mother’s Courage, New York Times, Peoples Magazine, The Telegraph (UK), Austin American Statesman are some of them.
By the way - I am a fatalist. Somethings may happen because that’s how they were staged to be. So, the meet up with you was part of the picture that was waiting to happen and not part of a coincidence. Otherwise out of so many people in the world why would Dr. Richard Mills give me a chance to be published through National Autistic Society when I was eleven? And why would the BBC do a documentary on me? --Tito
-------------------------
