ethubs roadtrip au is a story that exists mainly in my head atm !! i know i make it look silly with the doodles but it’s supposed to have a healthy mix of silliness as well as serious-ish stuff :’) in short, the plot follows bdubs n etho running from the same Thing From Their Past while. not realizing that the other is doing the exact same thing LOL. shenanigans as well as heartbreak ensue!

a more detailed summary of the hypothetical story, if anyone’s down for that, is like. bdubs n etho have been living together in etho’s apartment since bdubs Quite Literally crashed there a few months ago. modern day-ish setting, and ethubs r old friends from the same town/whatevs ✌️ one day the guys they’ve been running from show up! and ethubs simultaneously Flip The Freak Out while Trying Not to Look Like They Are Flipping The Freak Out. etho suggests a spur-of-the-moment road trip and bdubs goes Oh Haha Etho You’re So Smart And Cool And Have The Best Ideas so they pack up their things and book it. after that it’s lots of open road. nonsensical conversations after hours on the highway to keep each other sane. hushed phone calls at rest stops they try not to let the other hear. getting into hotels past midnight and sharing a bed in the few hours between then and morning ETC ETC ETC you see what i mean by ‘healthy mix of silliness and attempted real character studies’ pff. anyways i'm not getting into it all here because this post is already too long, but yeah it’s a whole! story!

i’m not sure if i’ll do anything with it (longform fic-wise, i mean) because i’m worried that the characterization is a liiittle self-indulgent lol. but it’s so cool to hear that other people r interested in the idea! so maybe i might?

How long did it take for you to master the LMK style? I really wanna learn how to do this style for my own future art, and I’ve followed that reference body sheet you posted a hill we back, but I never seem to be able to get it the way I want (Especially the hands). How did you do it?

Like 4 years, it was mostly just taking a whole bunch of references with literally everything. The width of the lineart, how they draw the head shapes, how the body is built and etc.

But like yeah it took a while to figure out, even my first attempts on the lmk style did look like the pilot lol My 2021 LMK art

But eventually you will get a hang of it once you've understood and studied their artstyle. My 2023 LMK art

My opinion to "desperate" artists and TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR ART

This is my art journey

6 years later...

If artists want support and followers, they should earn them by their own accomplishments and hard-work.

I hate it when they earn it from guilt-tripping others, being desperate and earn followers out of pity

You can never have a stable and healthy relationship with your followers that way, and you may get worse when you dont gain any interactions with them

Please stop doing this, and start growing your acc on your own. If you feel like your art doesnt appeal to others, start taking advice and study from other artists around you that you like. There are thousands of FREE resources on all platforms: Instagram, Youtube (recommended) , Pinterest (for reference) ,... And alot of separate websites you can find!

Trust me, hard work pays off

Its okay to feel like you dont improve at all, but thats not true, if you study and practice often (no need to do it everyday, it can be 2-4 days a week) you're already better than yourself yesterday

Compare your art to other artists has alot of benefits since you can see what to improve and see the progress. But dont do that too often, it'll turn to be an unhealthy obsession and in this world where there're always people better than you, you'll suffocate yourself forever. Thats a hard hit to reality but it's the truth. In this i recommend:

Find artists that you like and set them as your art goals, they can be artists with totally different artstyles, art is never something stable and its always good to try new things

From your art goals, start "taking" some of your favourite things about the artists and "artistically" add them to your own.

Tracing is another way to study privately for beginners, but i dont recommend doing this for long, it can stagnant your progress if you rely on it too much.

Unless its your style of choice, practice confidence in your streaks and lines, use your whole arm to draw (i know it can be boring at first, but everything you do now will have a rewarding result)

Stepping out of your comfort zone sometimes. You dont have to do this if you consider art as a hobby, but if youre serious or wanting your art to take a new step, i recommend expanding your art to many categories, like drawing backgrounds, hands, poses, anatomy, ect.

Study color theory, this is optional but i heavily recommend, this makes your art UPGRADE NO EXCEPTIONS

Here are some of my very basic tips, you've probably seen them everywhere and hear these thousands of times already, but if you're reading this and feel motivated, consider this the start of your journey! This is gonna be an exciting, might be tiring and frustrating, but memorable

|| The life of an art student is exciting, fulfilling, flourishing, inspiring and strict. In the healthy way of course. My parents and teachers are always understanding of my burnouts and art block which are very rare thank god; and it's a good thing I have my closest friends to comfort me through my work. They are always so supportive, encouraging and honest with me as I am with them. We always travel together to the college (when I don't feel like being alone) and we always travel back home together. I mean we are our own personal friend circle so of course we buy snacks for each other and meet up for lunch; it's not even like we need to worry about price since we have more than enough on us. College is 100 times better when my best friends are with me, everything feels so comfortable with them

|| Perfect, cunty, and ideal artstyles. Always chooses the ones most appropriate for a certain design, and never forgets how to convey a certain look. I know, understand and draw human, animal, vehicle, clothing anatomy and terminology, enviromental composition, colour theory and terminology, the 12 principles of animation, the 7 fundamentals of art (Line, pattern, colour, texture, tone, shape and form), and the fundamentals of character design like the back of my hand

|| I know how to layout a design page appropriately, I always know how to theme and colour co-ordinate. Written placement and art placement are always perfect to the T and nothing looks off. All together, I show off my own unique style of work and impress my teachers of classmates

|| Gorgeous, curly, and ideal (3B to 3C) hair. My hair never gets greasy, dry, breakage, damage, frizz, dandruff, or split ends. My curls are always moisturised, soft, bouncy, and defined. I never experience a bad hair day, and my hair is super easy to manage. Detangling my hair is a breeze, and styling my hair is even easier; every style looks exactly the way I want it and never loses the volume or shape throughout the day.

|| Ideal, fit, slim thick pear. Short shoulders, small ribcage, medium-sized chest, 20 inch waist, wide hips and slight dip, long legs, fat ass but not too fat, chubby but fit thighs, slimmer defined calves and small feet. The perfect pear. And every outfit looks exactly the way I want; I never look awkward but I always look put together and stylish.

|| Craziest face card. Ms. Face economy infact. I have a round heart shaped face with dark brown bambi eyes and long fluttery lashes, a medium straight nose bridge, plump pink "keyhole" lips, and the clearest, softest brown skin ever... Yet I still put make up on- yes I do because it's fun and I like it, so it's always awesome knowing I can do my make up flawlessly and nail my looks perfectly

It's unique and I begin to notice how good the character designs on rottmnt

I haven't watched the whole show (except for the movie) but the clips I keep seeing on youtube is what brought me into here haha. The dynamic and humor is actually really good (and sure there could be some lines that still need to be flesh out but eh it's nickelodeon's fault) AND DUDE THE ANIMATION??!!

I'm sad tho that the show got canceled

But I'm happy to be part of it (I am finally one of the people hoping for s3)

how did you get so good at a anatomy? like what practices helped you improve the most if you remember?

This is the first I’ve heard a comment on my anatomy, especially as someone who hasn’t quite grasped the whole thing haha. But I’m happy I’ve reached a point where it’s considered good. Bodies are hard and they suck but here’s some stuff I do/used to do to help.

1) Don’t avoid it. You can’t, it’s impossible. After years of only drawing 2/3 facing busts as soon as I forced myself to start drawing full bodies, I was able to create more interesting compositions and expressions. Even if it looks awful, you have to keep working at it. I myself can’t figure out a lot of poses and have to work around what I dislike.

2) Study in parts. When I did anatomy studies I always focused on one or two parts at a time. For example, I spent a lot of time studying legs and made a bunch of art that either required or focused on legs. Same went for faces, hips, and even clothes. Eventually it becomes habit and I could switch to a new part.

3) Reference. Reference. Reference. Unless you have the most vivid imagination and can put mind to canvas, please use a reference. I still use references for poses I think I can draw just in case there is a more sensible or more interesting way of depicting it. This also precedes the idea of tracing. It’s a bit controversial, but I promise you tracing is more common in the art industry than you think. It’s about muscle memory and visualization more than just “copying” a piece of work. I started art traditionally so could never use tracing to practice, but if you use digital I highly recommend tracing as way to practice anatomy. However it’s only really useful if you do it with intent, studying how all parts connect to the trunk (torso).

4) Lastly, it’s ok to start with a simple artstyle at first! It’s totally cool to build upon the basics instead of running straight toward hyperrealism. Plus it’s cute!

That’s all I have for now since I’m still trying to figure it out myself, but I hope this kinda helps!

Ramblings about Harusono's works and like friendships and intimacy because I can

I put this under a cut cause it got so much longer than I intended😭

So like I seen some people point out the like weird almost pre romance vibes between sasaki and Hirano. Like I was thinking maybe this just comes from Harusono not being very good at writing friendship and the desire to be closer and admiration without making it seem romantic😭. Because like Butai ni Sake it's about theatre and coming out of your shell and friendship and it's cute and great but then there's like THIS

(these are just some examples there's more though)

AND IT'S LIKE WEIRD cause like it FEELS romantic but it's NOT. It's not meant to be romantic. Butai ni Sake is not a bl and it's not a romance. So then WHY IS IT SO DAMN ROMANTIC?? I feel like this comes from in part due to Harusono's artstyle which is flowery and pretty and light and soft and makes everything a little bit more romantic and the way she draws characters looking at each other with just like pure LOVE in their eyes and even though it's platonic or is not meant to be romantic, it just FEELS so just intimate and romantic.

And it's like this beautiful intimacy of the friendships, Maki and all of Asahi's middle school friends trying to get into the same high school as him because they miss him even though he went ghost, and Asahi and Imari wanting to act together forever and in the future choosing to make a theatre troupe, and Botan just KNOWING all of her friends so so well, the entire theatre club traveling to give Asahi a ride to school so he would be comfortable, Tsumugi and Imari being childhood friends and knowing each other so well that even when Tsumugi says he hates Imari he still wants him around (they need to be studied I swear), Asahi's middle school friends going to see him in the play and being so happy he's doing well despite his changes. These are all just beautiful moments of friendship but like when Harusono writes and draws it, it FEELS more intimate than friendship. It's like these are moments of friendship but the way they are portrayed is just woah.

Anyway back to sasahira lmao😭😭 the whole like thing in the stairwell from the light novel, it IS romantic framing and it's weird cause this is a friendship and they recently met and it shouldn't be as intimate as it feels but it is. ALSO it reminds me of the first chapter in Adachi to Shimamura. Also I feel like we don't talk enough about how like Kagi and Sasaki are kinda similar but also very different but like not that much, but Sasaki isn't Kagi and Hirano isn't Miyano which is exactly why their relationship isn't romantic because they're THEM. (does that even make sense lmao 😭)

BUT LIKE ALSO she does know how to write friendships without them seeming romantic or weirdly intimate because we see that in Butai ni Sake and Sasaki to Miyano, the friendships between Miyano and Tashiro Shirahama and Kuresawa, Botan and Asahi, Ogasawara and Sasaki, Hanzawa and everyone😭, the art club director and Asahi.

And it's now it's like really weird because we have these friendships that don't seem strangely Intimate or romantic and it's like, so maybe that is intentional? And it's like WHY THOUGH?? Or maybe it's not intentional and it's just a result of misinterpretation? I'M LOSING IT OH MY GOSH😭

Finished Arcane! My condolences for being in this fandom and having to deal with the immense trauma haha

Just wanted to talk alittle about the art so it might contain some spoilers; I assure you nothing major tho

I think the biggest thing that drew me to the show is the beautiful architecture and aesthetics, the steampunk city of progress piltover reminded me so much of old games I love.

I really love how much inspiration is drawn from art Deco and art Nouveau in both the architecture but also the art you see on the walls.

Now it's just in theory cuz I don't really know much but it seems piltover leans more towards Art Deco with all the rigid geometrical architecture and furniture

While zaun is alittle more ominous and still has some elements of art Deco it leans alittle more towards Art Nouveau with the curves and more beautiful organic lines and shapes

While Zaun still draws inspiration from modern art movements I did notice this one art they did of Jinx

And how much it reminded me of Alphonse mucha, who was a part of the art Nouveau movement, pretty cool detail my nerd ass got excited for.

Would really love to do a deeper study of the art styles and aesthetics of this series cuz it's absolutely beautiful.

the architecture in that game brings out the nerd in me and is probably the reason why I love Arcane so much

Even the illustrations in the game remind me of the Arcane artstyle but more rendered out.

The whole stuff with Caitlyn's kiramman key and the machine it operates, the gas masks and the illustrations of the Grey. They hit me like a nostalgia brick and they were so cool.

Almost feels like they should turn Arcane into a game. That would be legendary

Nighty beginner art tips

- never start with full body drawings. Not even half body. Maybe not even face. I’ve been drawing my whole life and I rarely can put together a full body drawing. I started to learn drawing with an eye. Do it step by step, you can’t concentrate on too many things at once. Also! I once heard that if you draw someone the eyes determine if you can recognise the person, so they have to be spot on and that stuck with me ever since.

- don’t start with full body -colour- drawings. Actually don’t start with colour. fck colour. learn that later.

- greyscale is easier to develop a sense for shading and rendering. At least for me. Because you only need to think in black- white and midtones and not hue, saturation and brightness. It’s much more difficult to use colours to create an interesting composition than just black white and midtones imo.

- Develop an eye for what looks right. Just look at people. Look at stuff you want to draw. You don’t know how much time I’ve spent to just literally look at Sukuna and just -study- him and how he works. Do it with faces, fingers, arms, feet. Just -look-. Perspective is an evil btch and I still struggle with it too, but it will get easier! The next step is to learn how to translate it onto your canvas.

- tracing references (photos) is completely fine to get a feeling for anatomy and poses! Next step is to alternate your drawing from the reference. True Form Sukuna works perfectly for that cause you have two extra arms to draw and an unusual cute ass face.

- Tutorials are fine and the internet is full of it but you learn more if you fail a thousand times. Draw and compare. Draw and compare. It also helps with the eye I talked about earlier.

- If you draw traditionally use different pencils for a single drawing (HB, 2B, 6B etc) If you draw digitally, use different brushes.

- If you think you’re stuck and you don’t develop: use. different. pencils/brushes.

- Almost the most important thing: have INTENTION and THOUGHT behind your art. You can’t ppl expect to be amazed by your art, if you didn’t put intention and thought behind it. It IS visible if you did or didn’t.

- Take.Your.Time.

- Please don’t ask people for advise, who clearly don’t have the artstyle you are pursuing. They probably don’t know how to help you. At least I don’t. (don’t ask me about anime style please.)

id just like to take a moment to complain about the pacing of the new volumes. things move at an exponentially slow pace-- not because there's 3 pages per update, but because of the layout simply not letting things move faster then needed.

Why did we need 5 pages of Barry Uni and Caroline talking about meeting this mystery counselor? It could've been done in 2 pages, even 1, and then the remaining pages could have been used for them making their way to the counselor, giving more space for just showing off the eerieness and secret of this doctor Uni goes to.

as someone who's trying to study how to format comics better, these suck to read, because you barely get anything of substance from these 2 panel pages of them just talking about going to do something.

in just these 3 panels of volume 1, we learn SO much. we see that the patients are scared of Dr. Cuddles. we see that Uni is a mischievous person, doing things that Cuddles didn't know about, how Cuddles is quick to make assumptions about Caroline and Uni dating, and a whole panel reserved for their shock for a new patient, because it really is a big deal to them. not to mention the dramatic formatting of cuddles introduction as well as how there's *more than 3 speech bubbles per scene*. it's not a great scene [I got a lot of problems with the writing, but to each their own], but its digestible and easy to read and understand.

I fell off on the new volumes not because of the story but just because how it's being told. the artstyle itself has gotten extremely lazy-looking and unexpressive. i don't see it changing anytime soon either, which is fine, but for the most part it's just personally not my cup of tea anymore.

Lovely art! Huge fan of your works ❤️ Are there perhaps any artists who influenced your art style?

masashi kishimoto, hirohiko araki and jamie hewlett off the top of my head

i think the naruto influence is the most obvious. i'm really obsessed with the artstyle kishi had in shippuden with the clean and simple linework that still manages to convey semi realism. personally i've always been partial to seeing apple seed nostrils and pinprick pupils in styles so yeah also i looove spikey hair strands.

also a big fan of how he draws anatomy as it is even in fanservice-y gags like the sexy jutsu - again, simple and direct that still conveys realistic proportions even with the stylized character traits. super charming to me.

and then jojo. i sincerely think a jojo phase is like steroids to artists because araki's style really inspires you to study anatomy, fashion and colors like nothing else. at my peak brainrot i was studying renaissance art history while binging milan fashion shows and i literally have no interest in either other than wanting to get better at drawing giorno.

ik jojo posing is a whole meme but honestly it's a great example of what clean and strong pose silhouettes can do for your artwork.

jamie hewlett is kind of a similiar deal with kishimoto for me in terms of really kiki lineart with realistic proportions except his characters are significantly more stylized and just so interesting to look at.

another thing i love about jamie's characters is how diverse their wardrobe is - they never really wear the same outfit more than a few times but you can still get a sense of their personalities through their clothing choices and continuity in terms of style which is something so so important to me. just seeing a character have different outfits for different situations or choosing to wear their hair differently sometimes can help make them feel so much more real even without any actual changes to the writing.

also i think i just like details in outfit designs in general just because honestly? i think everyone accessorizes even just a little. most people wouldn't wear plain clothing. most brands wouldn't even make plain clothing without their logo somewhere. and the graphic/text/colors on the shirt can be indicative of so much in terms of their preferences and personality. also accessories just look cool and interesting. see: these naruto chapter covers
