Trektober Day 29 - Universal Translator Mishap. I'd imagine that without professional translation, most books run through the UT wouldn't be much better than Google Translate (although I suspect that Garak can read them just fine and is playing along anyway. It'd be weird to not learn at least a couple extra languages in the tailoring business).

Thinking about an It Star Trek AU. . . .

Captain Bill Denbrough (obviously)

Lieutenant-Commander Eddie Kaspbrak---the navigator. There's this one line the book that says "They look at Bill when they need a leader, at Eddie when they need a navigator." (chapter 14: the album) and that's where I got it from. Originally he was going to be the Chief Medical Officer, but I feel like this fits his character better

Ensign Ben Hanscom---engineer. Got this from him being an architect. If he can build a building in his universe, he can make/fix a starship in this one.

Lieutenant Mike Hanlon---science, because of all the research he did in the book. I'm thinking he specializes in botany since he grew up on a farm.

Lieutenant-Commander Richie Tozier---communications. He picks up on the mechanics of languages and can speak them pretty well but his accents are atrocious

Lieutenant Beverly Marsh---pilot. You cannot tell me this girl, who jumped with no hesitation from a cliff, would not be the coolest pilot ever.

Commander Stanley Uris---chief of security/first officer. He's in charge of security because he's the only one I trust to do it. Richie was originally going to be first officer because in the book (and bc he's the first one Bill goes to when Bev's been taken by It) he's like Bill's right hand man. But I think Stan just has a better temperament for it. (Also, I really like Richie being a comm officer).

Cadet Georgie Denbrough---he's either gonna be a yeoman (rip Janice Rand I miss you everyday) or the transporter chief.

Pennywise is a Q, maybe.

Thinking this takes place during the TNG/VOY/DS9 time period.

Some of the Losers are aliens!!

Richie is Orion (maybe in this AU all the sex jokes are a way to deal with the Orion slave trade. Hmmmm. Much potential for Richie trauma)

Bill & Georgie are Bajoran. Bill has a lot of issues (like a short temper & his stutter) that stem from growing up during the Cardassian Occupation and affect how he acts as captain.

Eddie is a recovering Borg that they saved. The Collective is a stand-in for Mrs. Kaspbrak.

Maybe Stan is Vulcan? Idk he kind of gives me AOS Spock vibes but I haven't decided if I like this idea too well or not.

Richie is 3rd in command, so when Bill is off the ship for whatever reason, Richie & Stan have to run the ship together and somehow, despite their constant bickering, they do really well together.
