Ingredients
- [ ] 16 oz bag glutinous rice flour
- [ ] Around 2 pork belly
- [ ] 6 or more sticks lap cheung thinly sliced
- [ ] Small napa chopped
- [ ] 2 cartons Chicken broth
- [ ] 1 large kohlrabi or daikon
- [ ] Mushrooms (shiitake(???) or king oyster)
- [ ] 1 pack Beef balls sliced in half and scored
- [ ] Optional: chopped cilantro and green onions for garnish
1. Blanch pork belly in cold water and ginger and shaoxing wine u ntil boiling. Drain, rinse, cut into pieces. Coat with salt, steam around 10 mins
2. Make tong yun. Around 8 oz hot water, stir. Mix, add cold water until smooth, knead, roll in to balls, cover.
3. Lapcheung stir fry with a little oil. Add chicken broth, vegetables, beef ball, etc except pork belly and tang yun
4. Add tang yun once boiled. Add pork at the end. Serve
Some recipes online have you make the chicken broth from scratch. Store bought is fine. This is the way my mom does it and you can add whatever you want. It’s good shit

This AU is basically the Dungeon Meshi of Warrior Cats. This is a high compliment.
It's so funny, I get that a lot and I totally see it + appreciate it, but BB actually predates me being a fan of Dungeon Meshi! I've been getting that compliment since even before the anime dropped.
It makes perfect sense though. Dungeon Meshi uses food as a metaphor for communication across individuals, class, and most relevantly culture. It's something that brings people together, even when that's being addressed as a sinister thing when.......
Ah. No spoilers. You should go and read the manga to find out what I'm teasing ;)
I do something with a lot of overlap in BB. Food is an extension of the culture of the five Clans. I use it to characterize individuals too and as a metaphor for things at times (like Darkstripe's growth or cultural friction in Heartstar's Rise), but most of all, I try to emphasize the food as the product of the society that makes it. The biome, the diet, the behaviors of its chefs... so Dungeon Meshi and BB are naturally going to draw some interesting similarities.
Plus, Dungeon Meshi's a good ass series man, it's downright awe-inspiring. I hope I can make a narrative as satisfying as Ryoko Kui can, lmao. I love how much that girlie loves food

Pro tip to folks struggling to make meals
The idea that certain foods are for certain meals is bullshit
I eat “dinner” food for every meal
For the last month I’ve been making veggie miso and wonton soup and rice wraps containing what I like on a chicken sandwich (onion, spicy mayo, chicken, lettuce, guac)
My goals are to ensure I’m eating veggies and protein and “American breakfast food” just ain’t it
And I fucking love soup

If needed I can throw this shit together in 10-20 min bc I use frozen veggies just open the bag and dump em in (better soup takes longer but I can just toss my pre made spice mix and some soy and miso paste and microwave it and he veggies and tofu and add the wontons)
I pre-bake the chicken so I have it sliced in the fridge grab and wrap it up. The longest part of the wrap process is heating up the water.

Yeto's Superb Soup

We made Yeto's soup!! This soup is full of love! And goat cheese! Highly recommend, astonishingly tasty -- warm, creamy, mild, soothing.
Makes about 6 servings.
In a large pot:
1 butternut squash (peeled & diced small)
1 large yukon gold potato or similar (diced larger)
1 yellow or white onion (diced fine)
smallish chunk of ginger (minced)
~4 cloves garlic (minced)
Large pinch of thyme
Dash of salt and pepper
Water to cover
Bring to a simmer and keep simmering 30min or until veg is soft.
Give it a heavy stir or whisk to break up the chunks; exact texture is up to you!
Add:
1 lb salmon fillet (skin off, chunks ~spoon size)
Simmer another 20min or so. In that time, add:
Generous splash or two of heavy cream
6oz or so plain goat cheese, broken up and stirred around so everything mixes
More salt & pepper to taste
This is basically a chowder and can definitely be adjusted to taste! We had it with garlic butter croutons and that was super tasty -- cannot overstate how shockingly delicious it is. Yeto was right, love is stored in the soup ♥

...has appeared in a couple of posts, first here and then, when @dduane decided to make some, here.
She didn't use any of the recipes I'd posted but literally cooked up something slightly different off the cuff, and it is (trending rapidly to was) delicious!
Full info on DD's blog here. It's not so much a recipe as an illustrated step-by-step.

NB, that post doesn't mention, because her IBS meant she didn't include, the chopped half onion and two minced cloves of garlic sautéed in smoked-roast-bacon fat which I added to my batch. It's just fine without them, but IMO is even better with, if non-dodgy digestion permits.

Parsnips and carrots over here are, as her post says, all too often mashed, one of the great culinary non-delights of my childhood. They're frequently sold together for that purpose, either raw or pre-cooked...

...and it's a pleasure to find them specifically meant for roasting...

...though I can handle a peeler, a knife and a selection of seasonings well enough not to need to buy them like this.
The soup was sampled two ways, first in its basic form as roasted veggies and roasted smoked belly pork...

...cut into spoon-size pieces and simmered in a light but quite spicy broth (there was a fumble when shaking on the chillis!)

After that DD made flour-and-butter dumplings (Middle Kingdoms style) which absorbed some broth and made the soup a bit thicker.
