What's the context as to what's going on exactly?

I assume you mean the people sending me death threats over a fanfictions I wrote (which is like... the 3rd? 4th? time this has happened now), but to summarize:

Ironically, I initially made this blog with the intention to just be very lowkey and post headcanons/silly posts/art and not engage in discourse.

At some point, I got an anon angry at me for mentioning how I viewed some of Aang's behavior towards Katara as toxic masculinity and answered it.

A kataang shipper reblogged the (properly tagged) post to whine at me even more, so I replied back with sources and maybe a little too much humor than she could handle, so she cried that I was a meanie and blocked me.

Had a few more experiences with Zutara haters reblogging my posts, making me increasingly annoyed.

I started writing more Zutara metas and criticizing canon more openly.

My posts got popular, popular enough that angry kataang stans started sharing screenshots of them around on here and Twitter.

I made fun of one particularly insane kataang stan who went on a few of my posts, and even into my DMs to screech at me for being every type of -phobic under the sun because I don't like Aang/Kataang. She still periodically blocks and unblocks me so she can shoot more of her brain vomit my way, and accuses me of harassing her for reposting screenshots of her unhinged comments to laugh at. She also accidentally followed me while trying to send an anon one time (I assume, since those buttons are close together) which was hilarious for someone who claims I bully and stalk her.

Recently, a bunch of kataang shippers got butthurt over a post I made referencing how Katara is drawn differently (it was a response to an Anon mentioning a much older post measuring the size of Katara's eyes and jawline) to make her appear younger during "romantic" moments with Aang. I commented on how I found it a creepy contrast and like how much more natural and human she seems while not with Aang, or with Zuko.

Another whiny brat kataang reblogged the (again, properly tagged) post calling me a pedophile, colonizer, racist, and whatever else his little rotten brain could come up with, and posted (without any trigger/content warnings!) out-of-context screenshots of a fanfiction I wrote exploring themes of sexual violence. This was apparently supposed to be "evidence" that I have a "fetish" or something, which needless to say, is an absolutely disgusting thing to say to a survivor talking about her experiences of sexual abuse, especially when you're a man who has never experienced that.

That brings us to why everyone is discoursing over the fic: Claws of Ice. Keep in mind, the majority of these people haven't read it, don't understand any of the context, and felt it was appropriate to leverage my trauma against me in the name of a ship war. The man in question is still crying about how he's the real victim here because I was apparently too mean to him when I responded to his accusations that I'm a pedophile and that my story of assault is a fetish to him, which is exactly the kind of male entitlement you'd expect.

So yeah! That's why they're all so obsessed with me, and throwing around every possible Bad Person accusation they can think of about me, but I really don't take it too seriously with that in mind. I was very nervous about posting this story in the first place because it was so heavy and personal and I was unsure of putting these themes out there, but the backlash has been oddly reassuring. The two biggest haters are that manbaby I mentioned, and that obsessive stalker who keeps spamming the atla-confessions blog with anons that are very obviously her while pretending she's trying to "calm down" the fandom, neither of whom can seem to formulate a coherent sentence. Like if that is the opposition, pretty sure I'm in the right here.

Hi, I'll preface this by saying that I'm a fan of your writing and this is not a rant at you specifically. It's something that I'm growing more and more frustrated with when navigating content/creations in the fandom (and other fandoms on here too tbh). Your posts just happened to be the ones I came across today and they provide a convenient case study into the matter.

I think we all know that the inbuilt tumblr feature to embed existing gifs in posts is very broken (where it automatically credits, and links you back to the full set when you click the text/username under it), and it can be very frustrating to find the exact one you want.

But reposting them yourselves without credit is seen as very bad etiquette amongst creators, and a lot of creators will block people for this reason (to avoid said person collecting and reposting their future content), and warn their fellow creator mutuals to do so too.

Also, it makes the user experience quite annoying for some users. i.e. You see a post with a really cool gif; you swore you've seen that exact one before, you may even recognise the very specific style/coloring, OR you've not seen that scene giffed before but you've wanted to, you now really want to like/reblog the full set if you could find it. Either way; you wish you could see the whole thing from the original post. But there's no link or even an indication as to the original creator/blog it came from, so... yeah this sucks.

From your other posts you seem like a reasonable and well intentioned person, so I don't think you're setting out to be deceptive in any way (some will actually fully repost a mish mash of different sets, and caption and tag it as if it's their own creation), you just want to scream about your faves, as you should. And I'm sorry this got so so long but I think I need to make it really clear, because I assume that some of these reasons/povs/repercussions must be unknown for it to keep happening. I could go into how it affects creators in fandoms in more detail but I'm sure you can imagine and I don't want to extend the lecture (just imagine someone copying and pasting excerpts from your fan fiction, and posting it, without any citation of said fan fiction or even mention of the author).

TLDR - Please link back to the original post if you're sharing stand alone gifs, made by someone else, in your own posts. Or better yet, reblog the original post that you're downloading the images from, with your added commentary (we would actually LOVE to see it, but I do also get if you just want to pluck out one specific moment from the set).

I'm still very new to Tumblr and learning the ropes. I didn't really intend to post S3 gifs at all - I was keeping Kanthony photos/gifs I liked on my phone to share with friends, and eventually I realized how many I had saved, so I decided to start making posts with them, and I was simply uploading them from my phone at that point.

You see so many gifs floating around here - I didn't think closely about the time and effort that people are going through to create these gifs, and I will do better in giving them the recognition and attention they deserve. (If one of the gifs I've used is yours, please let me know and I will tag you.)

I think Jm and Tae being same age has been both a blessing and a struggle to them at times. A blessing in the way they had a person with whom they could just be without having to hold back because of age, but a struggle because their characters (especially early on) can clash easily. I think these days they don’t clash as much.. or at all, but when they were younger.. I can totally see it. I think Jm’s seriousness and Tae’s freespiritedness didn’t match. Being as young as they were and especially under mountains of stress.. at times they probably just took their pent up anger out on each other… just because with each other they could. I think there was a huge lack of misunderstanding, with Jm being able to set aside his physical needs better than Tae and with Tae being more prone to be mischievous (none of this is meant to say either one was wrong).

I think a lot of what they told us is actually true. I think they fought a lot. I think for Jm it might’ve been hard to have been the last to be in the group, the others had already bonded, Tae and Jk were probably already very close, elimination still hang over his head before debut. We’ve heard how Jm hardly slept, and I think Tae just probably got to him a lot. I think Tae (and Jk combined) could be very annoying 😂. When Tae and Jk say they got scolded a lot.. I think that’s true. I recently said that I feel that Jm also has a tendency to hang with the hyungs, and I think he was part of the ‘scolding Taekook’ brigade. We just heard Jm and Jk talk about this a bit, and how Jk had to meditate between Tae and Jm often. I think that’s probably very true. From how I understand Jm’s words.. he thinks of Tae and him early on as complicated.

Things got better ofcourse. Who knows exactly why? I think they just got to know each other better, and perhaps through conversation with others they built an understanding. It could just be as simpler as admitting that perhaps you see the differences between you and the other, but you can accept those differences and still feel the other is a good and nice person.

It’s possible they got to understand that they were also similar in certain ways.. and that they both went through some of the same things and just reacted differently. I believe that Jm and Tae shared intimate stuff and became a source of comfort to each other. Jm comforting Tae isn’t fake and I think Tae really needed someone who was able to give him that physical comfort. Of just being held and being listened to.. and I think Jm is really good at that in general.

I don’t think there’s romantic feelings there (obviously 😊) I think Tae really liked Jm’s body 😅. But I’ve not seen them look at each other in amazement or something. I think they’re just really close and are connected through having gone through a lot together. Theirs is a basis of trust, of that I’m sure.

DON'T repost things! fanart, fanfiction, etc. this is different from reblogging, a repost is when you copy/save the work to your computer and reupload it in a post of your own, rather than reblogging it

DO follow tags as well as other blogs!! really like one specific character from a tv show? a certain ship? search their name and follow the tag, and you'll see posts that mention or tag them even if you don't directly follow the person who made that post

DON'T rely too much on the search function, it's broken. if you want to search someone's blog for a tag, you're better off going to the URL: tumblr.com/[blogname]/tagged/[tag]

DO tag liberally! you can use the tags to add comments that you don't want to directly add to the post, to make it easier for people to search your blog, or to make it easier for yourself to find things later on

DON'T use tiktok censorship speak when tagging things!! it will make it actively more difficult for people seeking to avoid certain topics. instead of "tw: abu$e" just tag "abuse" and anyone who has blacklisted the tag "abuse" will not see your post.

similarly, DON'T tag things like "epilepsy" - instead, tag "flashing lights" so people can still use the epilepsy tag to discuss epilespy without risking seeing triggering flashing lights

DO use the follow and the block buttons liberally! this site has absolutely no algorithm, so it is entirely up to you to curate your space exactly how you want it!

DON'T send hate to people via the askbox on their blog, either anonymously or not. just block people who annoy you or post horrible things

DO participate in polls! tumblr only got them recently, less than a year ago, and people immediately went ham. vote on stupid things like which bug emoji is superior, which ship is the best, and how much vanilla extract should go in a cake! but remember that you cannot edit the original poll after you post it

DON'T use or endorse "AI" generators like chatgpt! don't reblog AI images and or AI endings to unfinished/abandoned fanfictions

DO cite your sources if you want to educate people on something in a post, we all love to learn, and informative posts on everything from current political events to which geodes could be made into useable dildos, but misinformation is prolific, so make sure anyone reading your information can refer to a real source!

notes - likes, reblogs (with or without comments or tags) and replies to a post are all agregated to give the number of notes, which is basically the number of times a post has been interacted with

hellsite - tumblr itself. this website is insane and unprofitable and broken and we wouldn't have it any other way. hellsite can be either (affectionate) or (derogatory) and often both at once

blorbo - your favourite character, your rotten soldier, your sweet cheese, your good time boyy. post about them frequently and with weird, frenzied gusto

squick - something you personally don't like, such as a ship or a character or a trope, but is not actually bad or harmful - it's just not for you. it squicks you out.

blacklisting means you've blocked a specific tag rather than a blog/person. for example, if you don't want to see anything with spiders, blacklist the tag "spiders" so you don't see any! if someone you follow reblogs a post and tags it with "spiders", or the OP of the post tagged it with "spiders" then your dashboard will hide the post from you and tell you it was tagged with "spiders" and you can choose whether or not to view it

passing peer review means you added commentary to a post in the tags, and someone who reblogged that post from you saw your tags and thought they were funny, so decided to screenshot them and add them as a comment so everyone could see them. congratulations!!

breaking containment is when a post about a niche subject and/or from a blog with not many followers gets super popular because it's funny, and often OP despairs at how their notifications become unusable from the sheer number of notes from this one post

KUNGPOWPENIS - if someone posts something bigoted, tumblr will ban together to reblog, one letter at a time, k-u-n-g-p-o-w-p-e-n-i-s. only do this when the bigot is the OP, because only the original poster will get a flood of single-letter reblog notifications from every single branch of the reblog chain

tips & tricks

pornbots and bots in general are not uncommon here. whenever you get followed by someone, check to make sure they're not a bot by visiting their blog. if they only have a few reblogged posts on random topics, or no posts at all, and their profile picture is a beautiful woman, they're a bot, and you should flag and block them

old posts can and do get reblogged and liked all the time, there's no point at which it becomes cringe to interact with a post. we even have some from 10+ years ago that're considered 'tumblr heritage'

long posts will cross your dash from time to time, the most infamous being colour of the sky. you will see it and it will madden you with how far you have to scroll - inflict your followers with the same frustration by reblogging so they can see it too!! if you're on desktop, pressing j will skip to the next post.

read more allows you to shorten a post with a 'click to read more' link that takes the reader to the root post on your blog. this is especially handy if you're publishing fanfiction or a very long analysis of something.

toggling reblogs lets you choose whether a post is rebloggable or not, for example something personal you may want to delete later, turning off reblogs means there won't be any copies floating around after you delete the root post

follower count is not visible! the only way anyone will know how many followers you have is if you tell them. follow blogs based on whether you like what they post, not by whether they're super popular or not

memes are frequent and long-lasting. tumblr plays with jpegs like dolls and there are some memes that have been here for years. a current favourite is the destiel confession meme which has warped into a shorthand for breaking weird news

(full long-winded answer to this question and broad topic:)

i don't have a problem with selfshipping or self-inserts; any criticisms i have are just core "fandom issues" (out of character writing/art, ignoring serious themes/topics in the source material to flanderize or sanitize fanworks, excessive spam in tags, especially unrelated to the post and/or without proper blockable tagging, etc) that selfshipping/self-inserts can perpetuate like any other fanfics or fanart mediums.

for me personally, i technically do have "self-insert" stuff like trainersona/pokesona art and lore to even a selfship with riley called brilliantaurashipping, but i just try to keep it quiet and not bother anyone tbh. i don't have much confidence with my appearance or overall qualities as a person and the last thing i want to do is be ignorant and pretentious, which i feel like would be hypocritical just. constantly drawing myself. especially in a rose-tinted goggles and mary-sue "oh i'm perfect and nothing's wrong with me i have all the superpowers and plot armor in the world and i'm besties with EVERYONEEEEE" shticks,, it makes me wince for canon-compliance and "oh god i don't want to be someone shitty and ignorant like j*lloapocalypse" reasons.

i also don't want to risk annoying or bothering people... if you're autistic and/or a person of color too you may understand this struggle better, but i've had a lot of ""friendships"" where it turned out people who i thought mutually considered friends actually hated me the whole time and only held their tongue out of societal obligations, laugh behind my back as the "mean girl's autistic pet" thing, fail to communicate properly because of various social cues i couldn't process, and so on. i'd rather have up front, honest communication that doesn't sugarcoat anything or beat around the bush, so here i am doing the same with elaborating my thoughts and hope i'm not misinterpreted or have people make assumptions making things up based on lack of information too. this got a bit long but... yeah, overall i do like drawing, even of "silly" stuff like this, but there's a reason why the word guilty is in "guilty pleasure"

I feel like it's really easy to slip into writing for/catering to fem readers, even if you write for gn readers, without realising sometimes . . . Can imagine it frustrates the hell out of readers. So, if you have time, could you give advice for writers on that bit? Stuff they shouldn't do or stuff they should do more of when writing fics so its inclusive to all? (Stuff to definitely avoid)

It definitely is easy to slip into writing female or male characters if that is what you mainly write. This is definitely a situation where theirs multiple different answers depending on who you ask. As someone who used to write majority female characters and then male their are some things you can do that can help.

The biggest give away and biggest no, no in my opinion; check your pronouns. CTRL+F is a great tool or if your on phone the 3 dots on the side where favorites are and it's called the find tool. I have misgendered nonbinary characters a lot by mistake, heck I've misgendered myself. To avoid accidently writing female or male characters that is the most important thing to edit out of the drafts.

Is a point people might argue on but feminine clothing like dresses and skirts. I know nonbinary/masc people can pull of dresses, my proof;

The problem with dresses with reader x is for it to pull off in my opinion it has to match the character which is extremely hard to do with a by design open character like a reader. The character above is already thought of as a very 'gender is a social construct' character so him wearing a dress make sense. But I'd avoid using feminine clothes since it's hard to do right with nonbinary characters. (small note after the next point)

3. make up goes along with the point above. I don't think it's super girly and a lot of male and nonbinary characters wear make up but a lot also feel insecure about make up and hating it. The fact I know kids around 12 years old that steal fake eyelashes because of how expensive and expected it is for woman fashion- it's a whole issue but I'd treat it the same as dresses can do it with characters but would honestly suggest steering clear if it's a reader character.

With both dresses and make up having a note at the start can also do a lot of help. Since it tells people who aren't comfortable hey this is going to be in here because gender is a construct and nonbinary people look just as good in make up and dresses then men and women.

So I think the most important thing to do to learn is you won't please everyone. Just trying to write for a different gender male, female and nonbinary is great, and a good way to help learn is to read about them. Starting to write nonbinary readers from female readers can be a shift like from writing male characters to female characters. Not everyone gets it right away. But try your hardest and be open to constructive criticism and if you can read some gender neutral stories and take notes on how it's different and how it's similar. Since makeup isn't as forced upon them as with girls and can be discouraged in the case of men.

With that said nobody has the right to abuse you because you got it wrong it's just really annoying to go onto the x reader tag and see a fanfic being she/her or he/him the entire way down from start to finish.

TLDR; make sure you use they/them pronouns, be aware of feminine associated clothes and read gender neutral stories and posts if you can. Even if you mess up or make a mistake nobody deserves to be berated and abused but try and take the constructive criticism on the chin do your best. And if you want to add more feminine associated stuff a simple note at the start can go a long way. Even as simple as; 'Reader wears a dress in this because gender is fake'

With that said this is open for any readers/writers to add their own opinions to. Did I miss anything? or disagree with me? tell me I think having a conversation is more important than 'do it my way and only my way'

Obi Wan is always like 'it's a terribly difficult job being married to a man benevolent enough to keep offering up our sofa to whichever of his few million brothers is having a bad week' meanwhile Cody is like 'they wouldn't be on the sofa if you hadn't already given up every bed in the house to whichever poor soul you've stumbled across recently' and they act annoyed but they love each other for it.

Meanwhile Anakin is just a permanent fixture in their apartment by now. He watches all their arguments while eating cereal out the box like 'yeah this definitely isn't about me'.

And that is the exact feel!!! That spiderman meme but its fox and Boba on either side of a backstreet cloning lab (they aren't successfully doing cloning btw the fic goes in to the fact that none of them have the skill of the kamineese. There's just a lot of bodysnatching and attempting cloning going on. There's a comic book vibe to it 😂 lots of incompetent unethical scientists about)

Now it's funny you mention where Quinlan gets his money, as that part is addressed and I have written it! so wonder no more. Here's another snippet, later in the fic, with Cody once again concerned about fox's income (or lack of it) below. Here, Cody has found Fox's pi office (which he's been keeping secret from everyone because, he doesnt like being open with people lol) and tho fox doesn't tell him about Quin, he does think about it and that explains the source of the money

"Are you happy?"

Fox shot him a look. What kind of karking question was that?

He didn't say the words aloud but his brother seemed to read them in his face all the same. Cody was good like that.

"That, is the only question I'll ever want answered when it comes to you, Fox."

Fox stays stubbornly silent. Cody didn't seem to notice the poor welcome, settling in all the same.

His brother folds himself in to a chair, graceful as ever. Cody had always had this way of moving, there was a certain flow to his movements. Like molten metal, rolling but weighted all the same. Time in his Jedi's company had only made it worse.

Jedi moved like that because of the Force, its powers helping them stay one step ahead, always. More often than not, Jedi moved like life was a dance, their smooth movements rolling together like a predetermined routine.

His brothers movements belied that same determination, something that only grew more obvious with each day he spent in Kenobi's company. Kenobi moved with a grace fed by his precognition, but Cody moved in this way in spite of the Force's absence. Fox's brother had never needed mystical powers to be sure in his movements, he held within him a well rounded confidence born only of his own competence.

Cody met his eyes in the kind of piercing way that would make him revolt, had it come from someone else. Sitting opposite him, his brother looked directly in to his soul and waited, patiently.

It made Fox want to not say anything, just to prove that he could. He didn't though. He never could leave Cody waiting too long, he just didn't want to.

"I don't do this to be happy. I don't think it's something that ever could bring me that."

He scoffed. "Finding happiness in employment is some natborn shit, it doesn't exist."

He ran his tongue along his teeth. "This is my job because without it, I wouldn't stand a chance of finding that anywhere else in my life. These people need someone like me, to find them. I don't want to rest knowing that someone else is looking, I want to be the one that finds them. "

Cody tilts his head. Fox has potentially, said too much.

The problem with Cody has always been that he sees so much more than you want him to. Fox generally avoids these kind of conversations as admitting anything to his brother, usually results in you leaving that conversation, feeling somewhat skinned. Cody can somehow leave you feeling raw and open to the elements without so much as a word.

He's clearly seen whatever he was looking for as finally, he rights his head, only narrowing his eyes and asserting "That's OK then."

Fox bites back a snappy remark about being glad he's got permission. There would be no damn point. Besides, he hardly wants to give his brother any more to silently pick apart.

After a moments more careful watching, Cody smirks. The moment has broken. They are just brothers again.

"The only part I am a bit uncertain about is your insistence that this is a job. You aren't in employment Fox, whatever you say, you'd need an employer for that to be true and how can it be a job, when you don't accept any money?"

Fox shoots him an irritated look, glad they are finally past the point of talking. Conversation with Cody often feels like exposing delicate, wet organs. You find yourself edging around the kind of feelings and motivations that only live in the darkest depths of a person, those crammed in to the base of a heart, tucked deep within one's liver.

"As a matter of fact I do accept money. I have fees. That's the whole point of being a private investigator. It's a service which ones customers pay for."

Cody grins. Looking behind his shoulder, towards the door. "Sure, says it on the door. 25 an hour, what does that convert to these days? A stiff rate I'm sure. How often do you actually charge it though?"

Fox frowns. "I've done my time being ordered round by natborns. I won't accept money they offer in exchange for chaining me once again. I won't take money so that they can order me to deliver to them someone else for chaining."

Cody gives him another scrutinising look. "You're a good man. I don't think anyone says enough but it's true." You should hear it more. "Declining a paycheck in favour of what is right is an honorable thing."

He lets his words hang there a moment before continuing, "There's no shame in feeding yourself though. Can't help anyone if you can't eat."

Why did it always come back to this.

"That's not a problem. I'm fine." Fox tells him. " Go back to your Jeti. You've done your bit, you are allowed to go back and enjoy your life once again".

Cody hums. "Isn't it though? Because a little bird told me you aren't taking on much of anything paid at the moment." He narrows his eyes. "You send them away. Sometimes you send them away and do the job anyway." He raises an eyebrow. "Surely you can take their money and just tell them the person didn't want to be found?"

"I could. I won't." Fox replies stiffly. "These people think they own you once they pay your bills. I don't do this for them, I do this for the people who need to be found, who need their lives back in their own hands. "

Cody sighs. "I know, but those people can't pay. If you are saving them anyway. Why can't you just take the money under the agreement that its not for delivering their missing person back to them, but in payment of ensuring their safety? Payment for what you're doing anyway."

"I could." Fox agrees. "I do sometimes. But I won't do it if they are only paying me with the idea that I'll help them trap that person once again. The idea of it is an anathema. It doesn't do the missing person justice. It's not fair."

Cody shook his head. "You know what I think? I think you are fucking yourself over in service of an ideology that nobody cares about but you. Have any of these people told you they are annoyed you took daddy's money?"

Fox says nothing.

"Of course they haven't!" Cody continues. "Because they aren't! They're just happy that you found them, no matter who brought the case to your attention. No matter who dropped their money on a service you're clearly happy to provide for free."

He looks frustrated. "Look, you know what, it doesn't matter. All I care about is you having enough to live on. While I've got more than I need, I guess it doesn't matter if you want to work for free, as long as you'll ask me for what you need."

Cody sighed. "At least give me that Fox. When you need money, let me know".

Fox scowls at the wall. He could feel Cody's eyes boring in to him. "OK fine whatever".

He could say it to keep his brother happy. Of course he wouldn't actually ever need to ask because Fox's outgoings were sorted, thanks to Quinlan, not that he'd be telling his brother that.

It went like this; Quin like all Jedi, was given a monthly stipend. Quin unlike the rest of the jedi, did not need that stipend to live off, as he preferred to live off whoevers sofa was nearest to him.

Quin liked to come back to Fox, more often than not. He had been doing so for years.

Quin was not the type to need a home or belongings. He preferred to rob travel money from whatever unsuspecting crime boss had crossed his eyeline than to use Jedi funding.

It didn't matter that he wouldn't use the jedi money, they'd send it to him all the same.

The Jedi liked to provide for their own. Quin liked to know that Fox was eating and so, quite against Fox's will, for the past 13 months, Quin had transferred his monthly stipend, out of his account and in to Fox's. Fox didn't need the money and it wasn't a thing. Him and Quin were not anything.

Quin taking it upon himself to hand his money over to Fox didn't mean anything. It was just a Quinlan'ism, one of many. A thing the man did, quite in spite of any kind of logic.

It wasn't like Fox had been hard up before the arrangement started. He may not take much money for investigating, but he did tend to come in to range of large amounts of money, in the ownership of very undeserving people, during his work.

He used most of it to set up the people he found, in new lives. He used a little to keep him alive.

He hadn't needed to, these past 13 months. Fox's bills went paid, if he worked or not and they would continue to. It left a strange taste in his mouth. A indescribable feeling in his stomach. Fox didn't like to think of it.

Tired of every single day seeing 29583995 posts about how you are supposed to engage in fandom and how everyone who engages differently is wrong and bad and not allowed to do this and that.

Literally do not understand why people are so pressed about what other people are doing for fun.

Do I find the way people interpret/misinterpret some characters to be annoying and baffling at times? Yes! I think everyone does. But that doesn't mean the person who is over there having a fun time not hurting anyone is at fault for it. You can block them and move on and say nothing.

This was inspired by a screenshot of someone saying something to the tune of "normalize mischaracterizing your comfort characters. I dont care whether or not they would canonically do something." And someone retweeted (to a seemingly large audience) telling them that they must not actually like the character. Which feels pretty mean-spirited to an innocuous post about how someone chooses to engage with something that comforts them.

And I honestly think the original person had a point. Normalizing it does not mean YOU have to do it or YOU have to like people's interpretations, it means that people will be allowed to engage in harmless fun without everyone getting up and arms and making assumptions about them or QRTing their post to thousands of people calling them a fake fan.

Everyone has a different idea of what fun and comfort is and for some people that's making wacky AUs or exaggerating traits and playing dollhouse and for others that meticulously researching and nailing down every canon detail in their works. Some people like tiktok and incorrect quote edits and some like meta and deepdives into and it's all okay and fine!

Someone doesn't HAVE to make an OC. If they want their quick fix of comfort and catharsis by just tacking traits on to a pre-made character that they don't have to expend extra energy on then who cares?

Also lots of neurodivergent people (like myself) and kids get caught in the crossfire as well, but really I think EVERYONE should have the right to do what they want. This feels like another extension if cringe culture which should be dead an buried by now.

And I say all this as a person who PREFERS to engage in fandom in a canon-compliant, lore-friendly way and yet has also been the victim of this.

I have had bad/mean fandom experiences over presenting evidenced, well-sourced, and canon compliant material that just happens to contradict popular fanon. I have also received backlash for putting a character through 10+ years of canon-compliant, well researched, and carefully constructed character development which led them to do things differently in the future than they did in canon.

But I don't always feel like giving a 20+ paragraph disclaimer on every single doodle, edit, or short fic to prove to you exactly how they got here and why it's canon compliant (although I unfortunately DO tend to do this to avoid repeats of past hate :/) because it really shouldn't matter. Blocking me outright or blocking my tags should suffice.

I will never understand this mentality of "Only I do things correctly, everyone else is wrong and bad and ruining everything and I have to shame people doing harmless things so everyone sees how right I am" and I feel like I've been seeing it more and more every day lately and it's frustrating. This is a big part of why I left twitter but it's getting popular here too now.

This is honestly a big part of why I don't post the majority of my fanart and fics anymore. I no longer post meta or silly edits, I no longer reach out to people to discuss ideas, I rarely share my thoughts on any characters publicly, etc.

I live a very stressful life and I engage in fandom to relax and have fun but that has been very difficult for me due to people who always feel the need to be hateful over innocuous things. I feel more and more like I need to walk on eggshells so I do not accidentally incite another ✨️incident✨️ because I dared to post a silly headcanon or edit. And that sort of hate and "umm, actually..." response STILL happens to me, even in recent days because god forbid I post an AU I enjoyed and wished to share with people who might also enjoy it!! It's so frustrating.

And this, of course, is NOT referring to people who try to force/shame others into their interpretations (regardless of if they are compliant or not). This is also NOT about bigoted material. Turning characters into harmful stereotypes (making a black woman who is not sassy sassy, for example), using them to spread hateful messages, and erasing their identities/whitewashed their designs. That is a separate issue. But someone making a character you like say something they wouldn't say in canon? Making them act a little silly? Ignoring parts of canon to make an idea they have work? It's not hurting anyone!!!

What I'm Watching: November 2023

The Fall of the House of Usher

Sycrhjodxfhbaudiffebuvehtxt I'm obsessed with this show. So far, this is the first and only Mike Flanagan adaptation where I was familiar with the source material already, and it was a fucking BLAST playing Spot The Reference. Additionally, the conclusion of the rave scene has been burned into my memory ever since and I cannot for the life of me get it out of my head, in the best and worst way possible. Sooooooo good, but oh my fucking god. And it's been a long time coming, but this series has elevated Carla Gugino for me to Rachel Weiss meme status. You know the one I'm talking about. I just.... THIS SHOW IS SO FUCKING GOOD. The writing, the story, the performances, the cinematography, the scares, the all of it. It's split down the middle between stuff you can point and go "ha! I knew it!" and stuff you just can't see coming, and it's all top tier. I typically need a cool down period to recover after most Flanagan stuff, but I'm just itching to get back to this one as soon as possible. Is a good amount of that just me thirsting over Verna? Well, yeah. It's pretty much Gugino's show, and everyone else merely appears in it. Actually, that's not fair. Everyone involved not only fucking went for it, they fucking nailed it. This is Mike's last run with Netflix, and by god, the whole team went out with a bang.

Cowboy Bebop (2021)

Let me start by saying that my post mentioning how much I wanna bang Spike went as viral as things tend to go on this blog, so I'm glad that resonated with some folks. 😂 I'll admit, I have a lot less nostalgia for the anime as a lot of the audience for this, having only seen it twice, but as far as adaptations go, this was perfectly okay. As someone pointed out already on one of my posts, it's a lot less existential than the OG, and therefore a lot less heavy. And since all I wanted out of this was a good time, I was happy with it. I was EXTREMELY happy with the opening credits in particular. My stance on adaptations in general is that if a piece can stand on its own merit, I don't care how closely it adheres to the source material, and in my opinion, the live action succeeds. In fact, my one and only complaint is...not enough Ein!

The books stay in my reading rotation, so despite my philosophy on adaptations, I had very high expectations going into this several years late, don't worry about it. And...I was not disappointed. I ended up crying over almost every episode, and that never happens, so... 😅 It's so sweet and I was charmed from the get-go. I've still got a season left, and since it seems to be doing its own thing apart from the books now, I'm really looking forward to it. I'm also dreading it, because I'm not ready for it to be over. Then again, that's how it feels finishing the books as well, so that's only how it should be.

Five Nights At Freddy's

Lemme tell you, I've known jack shit about FNAF aside from "evil Chuck E. Cheese" for years now. I've had the tags filtered for almost as long as I've been on Tumblr (I love the people I follow, but I gotta curate my experience). I've made it my mission to go as long as I can without knowing anything at all about this franchise if for no reason other than it's fucking e v e r y w h e r e and I was sick of the overexposure. But now because a relative of an acquaintance of a family friend was one of the cannon fodder characters, I got roped into watching this and my streak is broken. I can't unknow what I know about this franchise. Which I'm extra annoyed about, considering what the creator of the games tends to put his royalties towards. 😑 From a film standpoint, it's fine. I'm not sure what age range the target demographic is, but having the horror stuff happen off screen made it feel more vanilla than the average episode of Supernatural, and I'll let that speak for itself. The look and atmosphere were exactly what I'd imagine if told to picture an evil Chuck E. Cheese, the animatronics are appropriately creepy (though let's be honest, it doesn't take much to make ANY animatronic creepy), and I was a little surprised and impressed with the soundtrack. And it was nice to see Josh Hutcherson in something new, though it's still so odd seeing him as an adult. I'm most familiar with him as a kid in RV, and holy fuck, I feel old looking at him now. I could have used a little more Matthew Lillard--why would you get Matty Lilly in your movie and then NOT do something with him?!--but given the character/story/what have you, I get it. One plot point in particular didn't stick the landing, as far as I'm concerned. In an effort to tie up all loose ends, it made things too contrived in a "that's convenient but now it makes less sense" kind of way. Don't know if that's how it goes in the game, and I don't care enough to find out. All in all, I've seen worse, I still don't get the hype, and I'm still not the target audience. And that's perfectly okay.

Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet Of Curiosities

A horror anthology? With GDT?? Sign me up yesterday! I don't think there was a single episode I didn't like. And I wasn't prepared to recognize so many names in the credits. Actors, directors, composers, authors, you name it. And it was fun! The stories were bizarre, assorted creature designs were gnarly, and whatever else was going on with the vibes episode to episode, they all felt consistently creepy and sinister. "The Autopsy" has the distinction of being one of the few things I've watched that almost made me puke. "Pickman's Model" was the first thing to freak me out bad enough I stayed awake to get it out of my head in a Very Long Time. "The Viewing" was the only ending that felt unfinished, it was so abrupt, but the style and aesthetic was so *chef kiss* I'll overlook it. (Side note: that episode's director also did Mandy, which I've been meaning to get to for awhile now? Hoo hoo, have I got some visuals to look forward to!) I knew as soon as I saw Jennifer Kent did an entry that hers was going to be my favorite, and that's not even coming from a biased place. "The Murmuring" is beautiful and heartbreaking. Easily my favorite aspect of the series is how you get a sense of each individual director's style BUT the entries themselves are so flavored with GDT, the whole thing stays cohesive. Now all I can do is hope for another season. :D

hello my readers, it's yumi here!

i'm not sure if anyone will read this (feel free to move on from this post if you'd like without spreading negativity), but i wanted to be honest to anyone who stumbles on my blog, and for my moots who might be wondering where i am.

whatever response i get to this, so be it, i'm just saying my piece, my thoughts and what i've been feeling for a while now rather than keeping it inside like i normally do. i'm tired of always contemplating on whether i should post how i feel on my blog, tired of feeling like an annoying whiny bother if i post anything at all besides my writings, tired of being afraid of what people might think of me or what they might say to me after, because i've seen how other authors are treated when they say their piece.

i hope you can understand if you do decide to read it.

i think unknowingly, i started measuring my writings' worth based on the interactions they get, as in comments and reblogs with tags or text. it's not anyone's fault, no one owes me interaction just like i don't owe anyone fics, but maybe because it felt so good to get so much interaction at the beginning of my blog that nowadays, i just compare what interaction i get now to what i did then.

i mean, that first sunoo fic i wrote got so much, and it still remains my most popular work, amazingly enough. it's not that i'm ungrateful, because i'm grateful to get reads, reblogs, likes, and it's not that i'm begging for interaction, because that's not what i'm doing either. i'd rather have people naturally interact if they want to, because i don't want someone to force themselves to give me feedback.

it's just that, i got my expectations set so high from my initial success of this blog, on certain works, that now that i don't get as much feedback or comments about how people feel on my more recent fics in comparison to what i got back then, especially seeing that many people still read and like my works and follow me, i feel naturally disheartened. and then whenever i try to write something new, another draft, it's like nothing i ever write will be better than that sunoo fic, will give a better shock value in its plot twist than the one in that hyunjin fic...and when i see other authors get loads of interaction, especially smut ones, i just feel disappointed in myself even though it's not my fault and it's not theirs either.

maybe it's because i write in a niche genre, maybe because i refuse to write extreme violent yanderes, maybe because i don't write explicit content, maybe because i can't commit to writing a longer, multi-chaptered fic, maybe because i'm not so involved into k-pop as i used to when i was younger so i'm out of touch with most things, maybe because i don't know how to interact with my readers other than responding to them, maybe because i come off unapproachable, or all those things combined? it's just, i don't want to source my works' worth, even my worth based on tumblr anymore, because that's killed all my fun, all the enjoyment i got out of writing, because i only criticize myself more when i look at those numbers and my own and compare myself to others. i just keep thinking there's something wrong with what i'm doing, with my writing, with myself and my choices on my boundaries, when there's nothing wrong and i shouldn't criticize on myself because of my personal, reasonable boundaries.

maybe it's just because of how almost everything has been pretty shit for me for the past few years and getting progressively, exceptionally worse, because of how i started to hyperfocus on this blog, on writing, since it was one of the only good things in my life. i guess eventually i started getting this taste of bitterness for this blog, for writing, which definitely was largely influenced by the shit i'm going through now and also for what i've said earlier, with how i killed my enjoyment for writing by myself because of comparison, because of how i let the circumstances outside tumblr ruin everything, but yeah...i just put a lot of unrealistic expectations on it and they were bound to fall through at some point anyways.

that's just how change is...i don't have much time anymore to think of ideas, to write like i used to, and i know i have to focus on doing what's best for me, which isn't this blog right now, as much as i want to continue writing, to rediscover that love i had for it in the beginning.

perhaps sharing my writing on a public blog like this isn't for me...

...so it's safe to say that regardless of what interactions i get after this post, i won't be writing or posting anything new anymore, at least not on tumblr publicly, at least not until i feel like it again, which could be many months, a few days, or even never. it might've been obvious because of my inactivity since september, but i guess i just wanted to say it more officially for those who have been expecting, waiting, if any at all, and to actually say it officially for myself as well, so i don't have to keep getting mad at myself for not posting anything, for not writing anything, for not working on the requests in my inbox.

Brie and Bradley were hanging out together for the first time. Mike and Phoenix were on tour with the band, leaving her behind. Her job was to watch the house. It was a test to see if she could handle being left alone without going out and trying to find drugs. She explained the relationship between her, Mike, and Phoenix after he asked. Mike was her ex-husband and Phoenix was his boyfriend. Why did they get divorced? It had to do with her mental health after having her twins.

She had postpartum depression and was struggling a lot with her inability to be a perfect mother. Her biological mother and stepfather were narcissistic, so they weren’t good role models for what parents were supposed to be like. Eventually, they came to an agreement that she would sign away her rights as a mother, so they could adopt. The twins were IVF sperm donor babies.

So, they were going to share custody with the biological father. The state of California didn’t recognize open marriages like hers, so the only option was to get divorced. She was in an open marriage? Yeah. That was something she and Mike agreed on after he came out as gay. He couldn’t give her what she wanted, so he decided to open up the marriage. It was a great arrangement because they were open and honest with each other.

He learned she was an alternative country music artist, who was trained in dance, piano, and voice. She also spoke fluent French because her biological mother and stepfather raised her in the language. Growing up, she went to a French immersion school. She was thinking about buying a vacation home in France for herself or her friends.

The last time she was in Paris, she started the process of buying an apartment but then, she got addicted to drugs. So, she didn’t know what happened to it. She would have to call the realtor and find out. Where in France did she want to live? Anywhere. Her initial idea was to buy a house in the country, but Brad talked her into looking into Paris because it had more options. She grabbed her phone and found the number for the realtor.

The voicemail stated the office was closed but if she left her name and number, someone would get back to her. She apologized for not checking in for a while but she wanted to know the status of her application for the apartment. Bradley was amused at her speaking fluent French, even when giving her phone number. He laughed when she hung up.

Brie took a picture of Heinz ketchup and posted it on Instagram with the caption: Try the ketchup, mother fucker! It was a meme the fans made that she had just found out about. She thought it was hilarious, so she tagged the boys. Rob and Brad didn’t understand the joke, so they asked. They had no idea, either. Mike called her on speaker phone to ask her. They had some time to kill before going on stage, so they were hanging out. She had to ask a fan what the context was, too because she didn’t get it at first.

“In your song, When They Come For Me, it sounds like you’re saying, ‘Try the ketchup, mother fucker.’ Instead of, ‘Try to catch up, mother fucker.’”

“I have never heard that before. We’re going to have to listen to the song again.”

They did and yes, they also heard it. That’s hilarious! They laughed. Maybe he would have to include that in the show. Change the lyrics a little. He laughed. Brad and Rob were doing their best to not be obvious they were secretly dating. The band suspected something was going on. They asked their source for the latest gossip, Joe if he knew anything.

He didn’t but he was keeping his eyes open. Because he was so quiet and unassuming, he knew everything going on. They usually forget or didn’t notice he was there when stuff was going on. That meant he knew who was getting along, who was annoyed with who, and everything going on in their personal lives. But no, he didn’t know anything about Brad and Rob. They were doing a great job of hiding. It meant having patience and determination.

He finally caught them acting a little flirty in the hallway when they thought nobody was around. That caught his attention. He witnessed Rob touching Brad’s ass, making him laugh. It was hours later at the hotel, he caught them kissing in the doorway of their room. He whispered over to Mike, who looked up and walked over in confusion. Holy shit! They quietly closed the door behind them to talk.

“Were you expecting that”, Joe asked.

“No! Were you?”

“No, well a little.”

“What do you mean, ‘a little.’”

“I saw them a little time close earlier. Rob grabbed Brad’s ass. I know what I saw and I was waiting to see if anything else happened before I told anyone.”

He would have to wait to talk to Brad until the next day because they were supposed to be going to bed. They were traveling tomorrow, so it would be the perfect time. He asked him to promise not to tell the other guys until he figured out what he was going to do. Joe promised on his favorite video game character and his wife, Heidi. Thank you.

After boarding the plane for their next destination, Mike asked Brad to join him in the back. After everyone was sorted and the plane was in the air, he asked him about his relationship with Rob. He sighed because he knew he had been caught. It was better to just admit what was going on, instead of lying. Mike hated lying and he hated denial. It was offensive to him and the trust he put into the people he loved. Yeah, he was living with and in a relationship with Rob.

He and Elisa were going through a divorce because he told her he was in love with him. She asked him if he could commit to her and marriage counseling. They talked to their rabbi about what they should do. After two weeks, he decided he couldn’t love her and Rob at the same time. He wanted to split himself into half, so he didn’t hurt them.

He even thought about quitting the band, so he could be faithful to Elisa. But, he couldn’t do that to them. Mike could tell how conflicted he was. He was being torn between two people he loved. I’m sorry for jumping on you. He nodded and thanked him.

“It’s not about being gay or bisexual or anything like that. I’m not. I’m in love with one man. We kind of used the situation with Brie to our advantage because you were all distracted by her.”

“Don’t come out unless you want to. Never feel like you have to. It’s nobody’s business. If you do decide to come out as a couple, we will support you. You and Rob. I understand what it’s like to be conflicted. When we get home, I want you to sit down with Elisa and open up to her. It’s better to be open than to hide, especially with your wife. Brie taught me that. She pushed me to open up to her and it was the best thing she could have done. One of the best things. She will understand more.”

He nodded. “I will. Thank you. I kind of sprang it on her.”

He did ask if Joe was the one who told him. Of course he was. He was told not to say anything to anyone about it. They would see how long that lasted before everyone found out. They laughed and Mike told him to get some rest for a few hours. He would. After getting up, they went back to their seats and sat down.

@jedipirateking ok, took some time to get my thoughts together. so hopefully I'll be able to get my point across clearly without any sugarcoating while not coming across as an outright bitch.

I get it. it is pretty annoying seeing your favorite characters portrayed in a seemingly mean spirited non-flattering light while propping up other characters in the process. I experience similar feelings of irritation when it comes to some Batman Beyond/Batman fanfic crossovers.(if you can even call it that given they both come from the same franchise)

that said, this is where our common ground ends. because though I sympathize with your frustration it's not enough to overlook the attitude you had that first put you on my radar. now to be perfectly clear, I'm in no way condoning anyone that thought gloating over you being homeless was justifiable in any way. that was taking things way too far and completely uncalled for.

but I have to ask, when you come onto a dpxdc post and act like a entitled, condescending, canon nazi fanbrat the way you did here:

added onto how you keep showing up with "I like this/don't like this", giving the impression that the post needs your stamp of approval, what did you think was gonna happen? again not saying I approve of people making fun of you being homeless or that you deserved it, please understand that. neither can I guarantee it wouldn't have happened if you'd acted differently. but you have to admit, you kinda set yourself up for that. particularly nasty fans itching for an excuse to unleash said nastiness are a thing remember? hence why, aside from finding more satisfaction venting in my own space I don't act confrontational in this manner no matter how frustrated I get over the treatment of my favorite characters.

all in all, your desire to provide knowledge on DC canon and dislike of how your preferred characters are usually handled in dpxdc crossovers isn't what I'm taking issue with. after all thewitchhunter uses their posts to do the same thing and I've never had any negative feelings about it. it's the fact that you come across as extremely pushy (to me if no one else) due to how you acted so needlessly aggressive beforehand towards someone that wasn't even a hatebrat doing mindless character bashing, just a bit of unintentional flanderization at worst then behaved like you did nothing wrong when you got backlash that's doing it. it just reminds me of a now infamous someone associated with the Sonic fandom that I also happen to be a part of.

once again, I hopefully managed to get my point across with zero sugar coating without coming across as an outright bitch. If I failed on the latter, all I can say is sorry I tried.

DPxDC and OOC

I've had a couple of posts cross my dash recently where people lament that a lot of the dpxdc fandom writes characters very OOC and how we're proliferating these characterizations among each other. I figured I'd add my own two cents.

I think the fundamental discrepancy comes from trying to reconcile two canons with vastly different tones.

Danny Phantom is a comedy superhero show operating on cartoon logic. Why do ghost experts Jack and Maddie never realize their own kid is a ghost? Why is the status quo restored at the end of every episode? Why does Danny shoot an ectoblast out of his butt that one time? Because it's funny. It's cartoony action fun where the plot is resolved in 22 minutes, there's never any lasting consequences and it's aimed at kids.

DC meanwhile wants to be taken Seriously. Heroes get beaten within an inch of their life, traumatized, killed and even the good guys do messed up things (often to each other). Yes there's action and puns, but also horrific violence, actions have consequences and it's (mostly) aimed at adults. When a main character dies the comics show their family and friends mourning and things are very dramatic. Even though at this point we, the audience can pretty much expect every death to be undone within 2-5 years of publishing, but I digress.

So how do we, the fanfic/fanart creators reconcile these differences when we make our crossovers? We either make DP more serious and somber, or we make DC more comedic.

Suddenly we have a DP verse where the Fentons' bumbling obliviousness is elevated to serious neglect or outright abuse. The GiW are no longer a minor annoyance, they are a serious threat with genocidal plans and a desire to vivisect the protagonist. When actions have consequences, we imagine Danny as dealing with serious PTSD from having to be a solo superhero and witnessing his family's death that one time (and maybe also getting vivisected). Danny is not just a teen superhero, he's now the Ghost King with serious responsibility on his shoulders.

On the flipside, if we make DC more comedic we tend to exaggerate character traits for comedic effect, focus more on the interpersonal dynamics (especially the Batfam) and have the characters act more casual and silly. Suddenly the Batfam goes from a group of seriously messed up individuals who have trouble communicating with each other and fight all the time to Batdad "Kids if you don't stop killing criminals you won't get dessert ffs" Bruce. Violence is played for laughs instead of taken seriously. Yeah they fight, but they still Love Each Other.

And THIS IS PERFECTLY FINE. It's transformative work! And trying to reconcile these disparate fandoms is hard! Fandom is a labor of love. We do it for free. We do it for our own entertainment. And no one is forcing you to read fics you don't like. DLDR and all that.

i swear every time i get into a game that has an actual community it'll feel like i just woke up on mars because i usually dig really deep into a game's lore, history, trivia, unused content, etc. and THEN i'll find stuff from the community and i don't even mean for that to happen it just works that way and it always plays out the exact same way without fail besides for when there is no community

like, a week or two ago i remembered OFF exists, watched a whole playthrough of it, have been listening to it's OST an unhealthy amount (I'm doing it right now, Unreasonable Behavior is so good), i go onto tumblr, first OFF post i see once i add it's tag to my feed is someone's art for an AU where all the characters all like hang out at a cafe together or something and everything is chill, which is like the antithesis of everything i had just experienced related to the game and i couldn't help but laugh in confusion once i realized what i was looking at

i go in the discord server for iconoclasts after obsessing over the game for like a year and annoying the fuck out of my friends about it, literally the only fanmade character i have seen is a chemico contra member who's also a phlebotomist, i had to google what a phlebotomist is and like... i didn't look into their lore by ctrl-f-ing or whatever so i'm probably missing something, but how do you come to this conclusion (actually i think i know, they mentioned they actually became one at some point after making this character which is really funny actually)

i start watching videos about pikmin after finally beginning to slowly come off one of the most intense hyperfixations i've had in my entire life to the point i had played through all 5 games in the series and dedicated weeks and entire days to trying to figure out the lore before giving up because it's nintendo lol and spending a roughly equal amount of time trying to come up with intentionally terrible ideas for more games in the series only to accidentally get WAY too into it (see my alph wraith post lol), i am greeted with Fiddlebert, and a later a dub of an AU where the player character is actually a wraith and is hiding it from the rest of the rescue corps (this post is still probably one of the funniest jokes i've ever seen) and the entire thing scarily resembles the type of shit i'd write if i was given this premise to work with down to the mention of an innocent child being consumed that's first brought up with a doodle of them saying "Oh boy I sure do hope being alive!" while holding The Goo THAT'S EXACTLY HOW I TREAT HORRIBLE EVENTS IN MY STORIES WHEN I'M TALKING ABOUT THEM

i look at the tag for ultrakill on tumblr and feel like i just got sent to hell myself with the punishment of being stuck in a permanent state of confusion due to the sheer contrast to the source material all the fanart has, same goes for most of the posts about it in general actually, i go in expecting like blood & violence and instead i'm greeted with gabriel & v1 making out. drawn by 50 different users. (i don't even need to link anything here just check #ultrakill you'll see)

and this isn't even touching on all of the ships i've seen that are utterly incomprehensible to me because. like. why magolor and the snowman enemy? why kingsly and puddle??? i thought alph didn't like louie? wait also what do you mean at least two people's headcanon is that louie is trans? (ok i couldn't re-find some of the things in this paragraph and i'm too tired to conduct an in-depth search but you could probably find it if you looked)

i'm not hating on anything i brought up here it's just a bunch of funny examples i think about a lot now that i've seen them, you guys go do whatever you want even if i don't get it go have fun lol, i just love the feeling of pure confusion when i walk into the room and get punched in the face with a complete subversion of my expectations because it feels like i'm missing SO MUCH CONTEXT and i never get used to it i love it i love the internet

MEETING FATE HALFWAY

Averting his gaze from the man in the store who seems to keep looking at him, he distracts himself by counting the flickering light again.  

“A bit annoying isn’t it?” the man asks and points up to the light, his eyes going wide as he looks up, his mouth opening just a little. Taehyung can’t help but notice how young the man suddenly looks as he gives a little blink with each flicker like he’s trying to decipher the code himself.. Taehyung’s gaze follows and then he shrugs. 

“Yeah.”

The man looks back down and at Taehyung, blinking a few times to clear his sight. Taehyung knows that he’s seeing the bright line, engraved in his vision, just like Taehyung and it must be brighter as he was staring at the light longer than Taehyung was. 

“If you just unscrew it a little but keep it in there it won’t flicker but the bulb beside it will stay lit,” the man says and Taehyung smiles. Twice he’s helped him out without needing to, even though this could only be considered advice, it’s advice that Taehyung thinks he might take. Maybe as soon as Sungwon is gone, he’ll get onto the counter and try it. 

“Just be careful you don’t fall,” the man says as if he’s reading Taehyung’s mind. 

“Oh,” Taehyung says, caught off guard. 

“Might be better if you have someone to help you. Why don’t we do it now?” 

Taehyung glances to the back of the store where Sungwon’s office is. Sungwon wouldn’t like him getting on the counter when a customer could walk in at any moment. But then again, it’s his job to man the store, which includes fixing random bits and pieces here and there. So Taehyung nods, and begins to scramble onto the counter. 

He jolts when a pair of hands come down on his hips. 

“I’ve got you,” the man says. “You won’t fall. Not under my watch.” The man cracks a smile and Taehyung’s cheeks redden. He quickly returns to the job at hand, doing his best not to be blinded by the glaring light. 

“There, done,” Taehyung says. But the man doesn’t take his hands off of Taehyung’s hips. “I’m done,” he repeats. 

“Oh. Sorry.” 

The man almost looks like he’s blushing. 

“Taehyung.” 

The cold voice that echoes from the other side of the shop makes Taehyung stumble. But he’s held up by a strong set of hands and quickly rights himself, brushing down his apron before looking at the source of the voice. Sungwon stands in his office doorway, arms crossed. 

“Meet me in my office.”
