We don’t talk enough about Sizhui, the last living member of the Wen clan, trying to learn and reconnect to his family and heritage after the events of the story.

I am glad that we got to know about his trip to Qishan and that he learned the Wen style of swordsmanship from his uncle.

There's something so deeply bittersweet and aching about Wangxian and their little one.

This tiny innocent born into war, plucked from horror into a barren wilderness, planted among radishes and nourished with affection.

Wei Wuxian is such a natural parent, so silly and so caring and so protective. And he and Lan Wangji are so enchanted by watching each other play with and care for this child, who lights up at teasing and delights over simple gifts and is so full of pure and easy love.

And then there is blood and fire and death and fever.

And this child that might have been in some ways theirs, some remnant thing that binds Lan Wangji to a memory, does not remember.

Lan Wangji loves him for his own sake, of course, more as time goes on; as agony fades to a dull constant ache and Sizhui develops ever more into his own person. He is a constant source of pride and joy and parental concern and motivation for Lan Wangji to grow up in ways that he had not before.

And in the end, Wei Wuxian comes back and Sizhui remembers and they are finally a family...but it does not erase the things that were missed. And sometimes Wei Wuxian looks at little drawings Sizhui made as a child, or toys he played with, and tears up a little over having not been there. Sometimes Lan Wangji thinks of a particularly scary illness or a challenging school situation and imagines what it would have been like to have a partner to parent with all along.

There is a happy ending...but it does not return what was lost.

And yet...Sizhui comes to them blushing to talk about a crush. He brings his confusing homework to them. He seeks their advice before night hunts. They get to be parents together. One night, when Sizhui has been injured - not severely but enough to be worrying, enough to run a mild fever - Lan Zhan and Wei Ying sleep on either side of him, watching over him. Their eyes meet over the head of their precious child, and in that moment it as if there were no years where they did not do this together.

What was lost cannot be returned...but there is a happy ending.

Day 10: Childhood

So I immediately got sick when october started and haven't drawn at all. But finally feeling a bit better today, so here is day 10.

You cant tell me that Sizhui would not be running around in a bunny onesie everyday in a modern au.

Like the young cultivator heirs, Lan Sizhui is going to be inaugurated as Sect leader of the Wen sect.

However, the Mengs, along with the Jianghu, got ready to attend the inauguration.

Yao: A-Die, are you coming?

Wen Ruohan: no Yao'er. I don't want to go.

Yao: any reason? The former Wen sect leader should be present right?

Wen Ruohan: That Reform Wen sect is weak. That's not the great Wen Ruohan's sect.

The  magnificent red mansion of the Nightless city, is hosting its biggest event. Sizhui is soon going to become Sect leader Wen Yuan.

Firstly, they're having a settling soiree, where guests arrive and have light refreshments before the ceremony starts.

The Jianghu's cultivators and sect members arrived, where they were greeted by Sizhui and Wen Qing.

Wangxian were already there! Thereafter the glamorous imperial families came~ the Mengs and the Jins.

The royal ladies all entered in together, just to join with their husbands and significant others* after. Yes they do this to be iconic, and show off their feminine elegance.

Huanghous are the true power behind Huangdi after all.

They also do this to gossip sometimes.

So that's Yanli, Qin Su, Meng Shi and a very shy A-qing. Wen Qing is a part of the crew too, but she's busy with the Wen Remnants and Sizhui.

Team d also followed A-Yao as usual, whereas A-Yao and Zixuan were chatting with each other and fluttering their fans.

Rusong, Jinling and Jingyi also did the same.

Zixuan: loving the Wen motifs in your outfit, Yaoyao.

Yao: thank you so much, Zish.

Would you ever wear Wen clothes?

Zixuan: ah, I don't think I'll do justice like you.

Yao: aww.

Zixuan: Ayao, the effects of the sunshot campaign were something.

Yao: It was truly really tragic. However

I'm glad that it's  under great guidance once again. The Wen sect is now pure.

Zixuan: I agree. Sizhui is so brilliant. You know A-ling admires him.

And I find that the Wen siblings are really sweet.

Yao: definitely. They're the best of friends.

I was once a Wen, so I'm showing support as well.

Zixuan: Foxy, you're an icon. The true hero of the sunshot campaign.

And it would be amazing if you were the Wen sect leader, as Wen Ruohan treated you as a son.

Yao: haha. That would have been an honor. But I didn't wish to.

A-qing (wearing a regal fit): *nervous and blushing* why should I be here with you? I'm not an empress. I'll go meet up with xue yang.

Qin Su: oh what are you saying? You're Song'er's girlfriend.

Yanli: you belong with us.

Rusong: congrats Sizhui. Or should I call you sect leader Wen.

Sizhui: thank you, Dianxia.

I'll protect your fox spirits. *bow* this is my promise to the future Huangdi.

A-Yao, as huangdi, placed the guan on Wen Yuan's head.

Yao: this was one of the sect leader guans that was owned by Wen Ruohan.

As you know, I have collected a lot of Wen and sunshot memorabilia.

Now go forward and be a great sect leader.

Sizhui: I promise.

Yao: I'll gift you a few swords from the Wen sect.

Sizhui: ah, I'm grateful to you Huangdi. Thank you.

Zixuan: congrats, Wen Yuan.

Sizhui: thank you, Xuan Huangdi. *kisses his hand as well* I know you and Yao Huangdi rule the Jianghu together. You're a team.

Zixuan: we certainly are.
