yes house md as a show is outlandish and insane. house is literally a truman show of his own show. background characters are made out of cardboard, the walls are glass, he is just allowed to bully patients and his coworkers for funzies. but like there is also a deeply realistic element to house as a character. his actions are in line with his life, his backstory, and with his predicament. his chronic pain which lead to an opioid addiction, his childhood trauma, his trust issues that have definitely been shattered throughout his life leading to his cynicism, his refusal to seek mental support. of course the one constant and true trusting relationship in his life will also be codependent. this all makes sense. but this is also a show where house gets shot, gets recruited by the CIA for an episode, goes to jail multiple times. but it’s also a story about a deeply damaged man making the best of what he has and also learning to accept love? oh yeah and this is also a sherlock adaptation.

In The Man with the Twisted Lip, Holmes brings Watson to the St. Claire's home to spend the night. This wasn't planned, they meet in he opium den by chance and Watson joins Holmes in his adventure impromptu.

When they go to sleep, Watson is wearing a night shirt under his over coat, while Holmes is wearing his casual robe over his normal day clothes (ok cause he didn't actually sleep that night).

The only one who knew he was spending the night someplace else was Holmes, he's the only one who could have prepared.

Still reading the OG Sherlock Holmes, and coming to The Adventure of the Naval Treaty and learning that Watson was kind of a bully in school is both unexpect, make so much damn sense, and is hilarious. i think it's so interesting how there's a sizable number of holmes adaptations that feature the idea that watson feels ignored or looked down upon by holmes and either acts out or straight up orchestrates some situation that'll make holmes see him or appreciate him etc. despite the fact that watson in the original canon doesn't feel like this (especially not to this degree) and it's a problem made up entirely by adaptations. like some ppl looked at adaptations where holmes is a dick to his friend and thought "man, that guy's a dick to his friend! well MY watson is going to react appropriately and prove that he's worthy of and equal to holmes after all!" like sure but my brother in christ someone made that up. like you dont have to be doing all this. you can just write an adaptation where they're equals and holmes isnt a dick to watson for no reason
