One of my favorite things about Granada Holmes is the fact that it starts with the relationship between Holmes and Watson already established. They've been living together a few years already, and we get a fast yet wonderful glimpse at what that relationship is within the first few minutes of the first episode.
Watson comes in worried about Holmes' mood and then his health (when he thinks he's been on the drugs).
We have Holmes sort of playing a little prank on Watson. Going on and on about how he hates being bored and that's why he uses drugs, only to reveal that he actually has a case and hadn't touched the syringe at all.
He asks Watson for his deductions and celebrates when he's right.
Holmes bought Watson some cigars!! "You see, I was not unmindful of your return".
Then they get to meet the client together as partners. "I am lost without my Boswell"
In quite rapid succession we have a series of little moments and interactions that lay out exactly who these characters are and what their relationship is like. Not even 10 minutes in and you feel like you've known these characters for years. That's wonderful writing imo

In The Man with the Twisted Lip, Holmes brings Watson to the St. Claire's home to spend the night. This wasn't planned, they meet in he opium den by chance and Watson joins Holmes in his adventure impromptu.
When they go to sleep, Watson is wearing a night shirt under his over coat, while Holmes is wearing his casual robe over his normal day clothes (ok cause he didn't actually sleep that night).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only one who knew he was spending the night someplace else was Holmes, he's the only one who could have prepared.
Holmes let Watson wear his night shirt to bed <3

I will get a clip or a gifset of this to illustrate, but the way Watson says "Ah, the Old Imperial, Holmes" and Holmes' reaction to it makes me think they had a meaningful date there.
EDIT: because i'm on mobile and apparently I can't add a video if I reblog the post, but I can if I edit it? fine

I am absolutely in love with the dynamic in The Dancing Men. Holmes has been excited and enthralled by the case from the beginning so much so he's been sort of rude (more like cold) to their client. Watson has been giving explanations and sort of apologetic looks. He has pointed it out but never once he demanded Holmes to change the way he spoke to people.
And later on, when the client died and Holmes is still interested in solving the case but not so happy about not being able to prevent possibly two deaths. When they're interviewing the servants, Mrs King was visibly upset and Watson, very quietly and politely suggests to Holmes (in his ear) to ask her to sit down. And my favorite thing of all is that Holmes does it, no questions, no "this isn't necessary", nothing.
This is a perfect example of how beautifully they work together. And how well they know each other. Holmes is observant sure, he can find clues and decipher codes. But Watson is also observant of body language and facial expressions. And they both trust each other to know when they right in their respective fields.
Holmes isn't a rude person, he simply wasn't interested in that part of the case so he didn't notice Mrs King being upset. But the second Watson points it out, he fixes it. He corrects his behavior and shows sympathy. In the same way Watson trusts every deduction Holmes makes without questions.
I love them and I love how much of a partnership their relationship is.
Many adaptations have done this but they make Holmes be rude at Watson's "stupidity" for not realizing things that are obvious. And Watson be rude at Holmes' "indifference" towards people. But not Granada Holmes. They have done it absolutely perfectly :')

every adaptation of Sherlock Holmes tried to link Moriarty to another story somehow, just so that his entire character won't feel like a stupid plot device to kill Holmes lol
Soviet Holmes connected him to Milverton and Granada Holmes to The Red Headed League. Everyone's so desperate to make Moriarty into an actual character, bless them

I will never get over how playful Holmes is in The Naval Treaty.
The whole putting the papers under the cloche at breakfast and involving Mrs Hudson in the prank is always an adorable moment. But also there's a shot of him covered in hay while he was hiding in the stables, and like, there's no real reason he needed to do that. He was quite far from the house and Harrison was not ever going to get close.
Holmes was alone and bored and covered himself in hay and I think that's awesome!

I love The Speckled Band so much <3
I love the story as silly as it is, but I also really love that we get to see a terrified Holmes. He's scared, he apologized to Watson for taking him on a dangerous case, he's putting his and Watson's lives in the line to help a poor terrified woman.
And I very much like that his fear is not because of the horrible criminal, he's dealt with them before. He's scared because he's dealing with unpredictable animals. Dangerous animals that are being mistreated, so there's no way of knowing how they will react to strangers in the house.
I also love that the cute animals don't die in this one. I mean sure, the snake gets attacked (although I choose to believe Holmes purposefully missed). But they don't kill any!
And we get unshaven Holmes!! <3

I'm always amazed by the casting choices of granada holmes. Like we all know Jeremy Brett, David Burke and Edward Hardwick are excellent, and the recurrent cast as well. But every creepy old white man is the creepiest of all ol white men! The dude from the Copper Beeches terrifies and disgusts me to no end. Like he's so well cast I'm afraid I could never see the actor in another role because he would still scare me to death lol

You were warned last night... Here are my thoughts and feelings about The Norwood Builder ajcnsj
First of all, an amazing episode for Watson imo. Up until now, we have seen him sort of grow into the detective he is. He's tried to make deductions, has tried to apply Holmes' methods, he has repeated Holmes' findings to clients like it's something he did in an attempt to participate in cases. And he has done this beautifully btw, with the consent and support from Holmes.
But The Norwood Builder is a different story. In this episode you can see how much Watson has grown, how much he has learned from Holmes. Watson is on top of things from the second their client comes in and Holmes does his typical deductions about his job, general living habits and possible health issues. Watson promptly replies to the confused look on McFarlane's face with "Your untidy clothes, sheaf of legal papers, watch chain and your somewhat irregular breathing". This means that Watson made the same observations and possibly got to the same conclusion himself, or at least can now easily and quickly see what Holmes sees. No longer "and how in the world did you guess that?". That in itself is amazing!
This is also the first time Holmes and Watson get separated on a case, each one with their own lead and actually goes somewhere. (Sure, Watson did some solo investigating in The Solitary Cyclist but he did a very bad job, bless him). In fact, in this episode Watson finds a pretty crucial clue that Holmes couldn't find. Mr. Logic was too upset about the case being too hard that he needed Watson to put in the work with a clear head and sit through paperwork until he found something. And he did!
And that leads me to another point that I adore about this episode. Holmes' whole mood. He's happy when he gets the case, he's interested and having fun. But later, it proves to be too complicated and difficult to solve. It frustrates him and before he goes into full depression mode, you can tell how desperate he's becoming to solve thins thing because he starts saying things like "I feel it in my bones" and "All my instincts are one way and all the facts are the other". Very unusual language for the man who can't make bricks without clay...
Which leaves me with another fantastic moment, and back to Watson, he is so kind in this episode. Twice he offers a frustrated Holmes a warm and calming hand.
Firstly by offering to go through Oldacre's bank papers while Holmes clears his head looking for clues outside. Which is a great decision since they both come across very important pieces of information.
But also at Baker Street, when Holmes is too focused, too frustrated, too depressed to eat, his loyal colleague and intimate friend the doctor is there to help. He's kind and patient, he picks up the discarded violin from the floor with such care. He crouches down next to Holmes to kindly ask him to eat. He pours him his tea and presents a plan: "Let's have some breakfast and then go out together and see what we can do." He's not sure how to solve the case either, but he's encouraging and supportive.
"I feel as I shall need your company and moral support today". That's all Watson can offer and that's all Holmes needs :')
This is particularly important to me because Sherlock Holmes can be quite extreme sometimes. He spends a little bit of time without any new cases and suddenly there's no more criminals in London. He finds a case a bit challenging and what if he's lost his talent? What if he'll never be able to solve another case again? (way too relatable Mr. Holmes, I feel attacked). So having a loving friend to reassure him that he can do this, is something that can actually be so personal <3

I love Sherlock and Mycroft's relationship so much :')
The Greek Interpreter does such a good job at showing how much the brothers love and respect each other. Like yeah there are some snarky comments and stuff, but that's what brothers do! It really makes me think about these men's childhood. The kind of parents they must have had for them to turn out like they did but also have such a healthy relationship between them.
And the comparison with the Kratides siblings, Sophia not giving a single shit about her brother being tortured and murdered. Excellent case to introduce Sherlock's brother!
Also Mycroft is always a mood and I relate to him so much ajfnsjf
