I’m a volunteer animal shelter photographer. Black dogs are often the last to be adopted, so I try to make sure that every black dog in the shelter gets a good photograph!

#doggust2024 "walkies" inspired by Coco at Greenville County Animal Care in Greenville, SC
🐾 for #doggust2024 i'm browsing Petfinder and drawing real adoptable dogs from all across the US. do you have room for a furry guest? fostering not only helps free up space within the shelter, it also provides a much lower-stress environment for animals while they wait to be adopted, which can allow for a more accurate assessment of their personality and needs.

The shelter I got my bunny from is having a fundraiser!
The way it works is people enter their pets to be chosen to be used in the yearly calendar they make and people give a donation in order to vote on the pets. I entered my rabbit since I got him from this shelter and wanted to show support for it. All funds raised by voting on him will be going straight to the shelter and supporting more animals like him. I'm very grateful to this shelter for bringing me my wonderful boy and would love if he could help raise some funds for them. I entered him last year as well and he was actually featured in the calendar!

Fundraising for Jackets for Shelter Animals!
I'm fundraising to supply pet jackets to shelter animals in need in the Roanoke VA area this winter. All money received will go toward materials to make jackets for shelter animals (primarily dogs). If you have fabric, old/worn clothes, or other material that you think could be used as material for the jackets that would be equally appreciated! If so, please send me a direct message.
Tumblr media
The example jacket pictured is an extra small, worn one that I made from old shirts and scrap materials. This is not an exact example of the jackets that I will be making for the shelter animals and the ones made for this project will be of better quality, these were made quickly from materials I had around the house. Also, the scrap materials I used was not entirely ideal and caused some unevenness around the edges. This jacket was made for 1 of 2 puppies we took in that were found abandoned in parking lot and were too malnourished to handle the cold, which is one of many scenarios where a shelter animal may need one of these jackets during the cold weather. GoFundMe is the only location where I will be taking funds. The only social media accounts specifically for this project/brand are currently @happydaypetapparel on Instagram, Tumblr, and YouTube and now @HappyDay_PA on Twitter/X.
Here is the GoFundMe link if you would like to donate or see more info. Reblogs are deeply appreciated.

These are a few of the series of dogs I've been working on for the Dog Days of Summer. I went to one of the local shelters, took a bunch of pictures, and drew/painted the dogs. I give the finished portraits (they're 5x7 postcards) to the shelter to pass along to the adoptive paw-rents.
When I did this before, I did everything in graphite, and turned the portraits into a book (https://www.amazon.com/My-Name-Hope-Lisa-Morgan-ebook/dp/B087PHBRKJ/) This time, I will be taking all of the original sketches and turning them into lineart and making a shelter edition of my coloring books :) I have several out currently, available on Amazon as well :)

After years of thinking about it and having yet another seizure on public transportation this morning, I've made up my mind and am gonna get a service dog! My doctors have all already agreed that this would be a good course of action for me. I'm nervous and excited as I'm owner-training, but I have local dog trainers I'm going to reach out to who have experience with training service dogs.
I don't currently plan on using a breeder, since my local animal shelter has a couple of dogs who I think would be good fits! Their different personalities, temperament, willingness to learn, ect are all posted on the website, so I've been able to look and see what dogs I want to meet before going in. Plus, my shelter also has information on service dog training and resources for people in our area.
I have an appointment with SSI coming up on July 20th to apply for benefits, and I'm praying that they approve my application on the first go so I don't have to lawyer up. My seizures are just getting in the way too much for me to maintain a job. I've known that for years, hence why I keep switching jobs in hopes of finding something that will work for me. I just felt like if I applied for SSI then I would be "throwing in the towel". It almost felt like I was giving up on myself. But the more I go on, the more I realize that sometimes the best thing to do is take a step back. I'm not mooching off of anyone. I'm still going to go to college. I'm still taking steps to better my life while living with a disability. Working right now just isn't feasible for me (why yes, I am still convincing myself of all of this, how did you know? It's a back and forth game over guilt, honestly).
Since adoption fees are affordable, I should, in theory, be able to adopt with in the first couple of SSI payments after I get approved.
Here's hoping that it all goes well!! 🙏🦮🍀✨️

I used to work at an animal shelter, and whenever dogs came in we gave them names that fit whatever theme we had that month. Sometimes I'll go check the website just to see if any dogs I remember are still there, and I came across these two a while ago. I thought this blog would appreciate them :)

In Baltimore County, MD: 2 y/o Rottweiler Needs Rescue Commitment by 9/12
Baltimore County Animal Services is seeking rescue placement for Teddy. Teddy is a 2 year old, 140 pound Rottweiler that originally came to us as a stray and was never reclaimed. After the stray hold, Teddy was adopted out, but was returned less than 24 hours later due to the adopter’s landlord changing their mind about allowing the adopters to have a dog. Teddy is currently on a bite quarantine due to being mouthy while playing with the adopter and them pulling back resulting in a superficial scrape to the skin from his tooth. Teddy is very friendly, but jumpy/mouthy, strong, and needs some additional training. Teddy also showed some signs of resource guarding food, but also showed restraint during his resource guarding test, only escalating to growling and muzzle punching the hand away from his food. He has also shown social interest in other dogs. Teddy is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and neutered. Teddy would be able to leave the shelter on September 12th, when his quarantine is over. Teddy will not be made available for adoption through us again so it is imperative that we find a rescue group to take him in. If you are interested in pulling Teddy, or have any questions, please let us know!
Thank you,
Megan Phillabaum
