Here there be
Dragons! hubby and gf started painting Warhammer miniatures. I wanted to try my hand as well, and bought a couple Reaper miniatures from their collaboration collection with Michaels. This is my first go. I see a lot of room for improvement, but I'm not unhappy with it.

This year, last year. I have painted this particular fox a number of times. Most recently this morning. That would be the one minus the hat. I painted the one with a Santa hat last year when I was painting a number of animals with Christmas hats.

This is a poodle that I finished this morning, based on a photo from Gina Rosner in the Free Reference Photos For Artists group on FB. This took a whole lot of hours, and has actually sat half-finished in my WIP pile, because I lost the will to draw in graphite. Glad I rediscovered my love of graphite :)

This is Garris, owned and photographed by Susan Daley. I got his photo from a free reference group for artists on FB. After spending some time doing graphite, I fell in love with it again (I've been hyperfocused on other arts for a bit now, and wandered away from graphite. Happens every year) Now is the time for portraits :)
I've been doing an art advent calendar...not really challenge, but just a great opportunity to share and see others' art, on Bluesky, and this was today's artwork.

Bogey: Portrait of the Best Boy
This is Bogey. He belongs to Meg Everett, the community director of Warframe. We watched Bogey grow up on the community streams and Megan's Insta posts. I just saw that Bogey lost his battle with cancer...and I wanted to make a little tribute of him. Yes, yes I am in tears for a dog I only knew from online.

My dad's refrigerator was from the 70s...he replaced it in 2020 or thereabouts. His stove, also from the same era, was still going strong when he passed. In contrast, we are on our third stove in the past 20 years (when it costs almost as much to fix as it is to buy a new one on sale? Yeah.)
It's nuts that everything is considered disposable :(
I've been having a lot of feelings about the downfall of quality lately.
I ordered a pair of Dickies pants because pants are hard and workwear is usually reliable. When they arrived they were the scratchiest, most papery material--I can't actually call it fabric in good faith--and fit a full three sizes too small. A week later I found the same pair in a thrift store, dated 2017. These are actual pants. They fit, they're not made of asbestos. They're only separated by time.
There's no wood used in interior design unless it's a custom build. I have a set of wealthy relatives who live in a condo. The downpayment for it was likely more money than I will see in my lifetime. The floors and the cabinets are all still laminate. I know I will never see real wood in a building constructed after 2000. Every "apartment hack" I see online has this very conspicuous, flat appearance because of all the paint and contact paper required to make these builds look personal in any way. The only natural materials are in the furnishings.
I've been harping on this for years, but everything is shit, nothing is designed to work, and "growth" and "profit" are just euphemisms for cutting corners until things are unworkable.
