end of summer blues
Well, the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder, so I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness that summer is coming to an end. Summer is my favorite season, and I always look forward to spending time outdoors with my family, enjoying the sunshine and the warmth. But living in Northern Ontario (ugh), I know that winter is just around the corner, which means months of snow, ice, and fucking darkness.
I suffer from seasonal affective disorder, which I'm sure you're already familiar with so I won't bore you with the details. I feel so hopeless when the days are gray and gloomy and have trouble staying motivated. I dread the thought of driving on our snow covered roads, scraping my windshield before I go anywhere, and bundling up in a shit ton of layers. I really do hate winter.
I have lived in Sudbury for 10 years now, but I still haven’t gotten used to the harsh winters here. I grew up in Guelph which, yes, did have winter. But the winters there offered a warmer climate, where winter was mild and short. I wish I could live somewhere where it’s summer all year round, or at least have the option to escape to a tropical destination for the winters. But that’s not realistic for me right now. I will probably have to wait until retirement to enjoy that luxury, so until then I will chase the sunshine with a vacation or two a year.
I had a wonderful summer this year with my family. We spent lots of time in our camper, traveling to different places and relaxing. We visited some beautiful lakes in some gorgeous parks. We went swimming, had picnics, bonfires, and marshmallows. We laughed, played, and cuddled. Summer to me is not long enough. I wish it could last forever.
But alas, summer is ending and fall is beginning. The kids have gone back to school and life has gone back to regular schedules. I know I have to face reality and prepare for the winter ahead. But I also know that summer will come again next year, and I will have more opportunities to make lasting memories with my loved ones.
I hope everyone enjoyed their summers as much as I did. And I hope everyone can find ways to cope with the end of summer blues.

Kozume Kenma did not want to be in the library right now. If he had his way, he would be asleep under a warm duvet all day now that classes had ended for the semester. Unfortunately, he had a lot to learn before exams, and there was no time to waste.
He chose a seat by the table in the back, which was only occupied by one other student, who he didn’t acknowledge at all. You eventually took notice of him, though. The cute guy with the outgrown bleach was looking down at his schoolwork with a frown, and you were very amused. You stretched your arm out to get his attention, and Kenma eventually looked up with a face that bridged between annoyed and confused. He looks like a kitten, you thought. "What did that book ever do to you?"
"It mocks my lack of will. So if you could try not to distract me, that would be great," he answered, which ended your conversation abruptly. You smirked to yourself, picked up a pen and got to work on your next drawing after taking a sip from your water bottle. Kenma calmly put on his headphones, a sign to please leave him alone.
After about half an hour, Kenma sat back in his seat to stretch. His spine cracked, and he clapped his cheeks to stay awake. You took this as your opportunity and flipped your drawing pad to show him the newest masterpiece. Kenma turned his head at the motion, and his face quickly fell in disbelief. You had drawn him how he looked today, except with ears and a nose that resembled a calico cat. He frowned when he noticed your wide and proud smile. Annoyingly enough, he was impressed by your unusual art style. When Kenma looked down at his notes again, he couldn't help the small smile that crept onto his face. A light rosy colour tinted his cheeks despite his efforts to stay cool, and your heart fluttered. Mission accomplished.
A week later, even closer to exams, Kenma made his way to the library again. To his surprise, the woman he still didn't know the name of was there too. With a quick rundown of positives and negatives in his head, he decided to take a seat across from you.
You sat like that every day for the whole school week. Kenma tried his best to cram as many facts as he could and actually started to feel like this exam might go well. He didn't quite know what the person across from him was working on, but you had several different coloured pens and even a small box of watercolours along with a brush that somehow stored the water you needed in the handle. He started wondering, and before he could stop himself, "Are you allowed to paint in here?"
Your eyes met, unconsciously having a staring contest for one too many seconds. Oh, so he wants to talk to me now? When his eyes wandered around your face and hands, he noticed that you weren’t exactly being careful with your colours either.
"No one has told me not to," you said slowly as if trying to convince him. A small smile graced his lips, and you felt greedy for more of it.
"Sounds like solid reasoning to me," Kenma agreed and leaned back in his chair. His hand lifted to point at the back of your large notepad, "What are you creating now, then?"
Abashingly, you turned it around. You had filled the whole page, and he recognised it as the library you were currently in, but with much more sunshine and colours, orange flowers growing from the books and pink cows making their way across the floor in the back. "I study visual arts. We have to create an exhibition, and my theme is perspective." His mouth fell open slightly as he nodded in understanding when you explained.
"It's cool. You're good at that." Kenma kept his voice low, and something about it was so enticing to you. He spoke so calmly and every emotion of his was a mystery. "I'm Kenma."
"I'm y/n." After settling down from your little conversation, you kept sipping from your water bottle. Kenma’s mouth dried every time he heard the sound. He did his best to clear his throat, realising he hadn’t brought anything to drink.
“Do you have an inspiration?” he asked, mostly wondering if you actually saw the words that way.
The corner of your mouth quirked. “I’ve always like games, it’s affected the way I see the world. Sorry, that probably sounds like childish imagination.”
Kenma thought back to the things he’d imagine when he ran in high school for volleyball practice. The way he’d make it into a game. “No, I… Uh, I totally get it.”
You two naturally fell into silent, individual work again. Kenma kept glancing over at your paintings, but whenever you met his gaze, he would look away. Eventually, the sun went down, and you both started clearing the table, silently packing everything into your bags. Come on, Kenma. Just smile at her and say something. However, somewhat luckily, you beat him to it.
"Hey, Kenma?" He lifted his head swiftly, eyebrows raised, happy that you started the conversation. "Do you want to get a drink?" You weren’t necessarily nervous, but undoubtedly hopeful for his answer. The corners of his mouth lifted in a kind, small smile. You had both picked up your bags and stood beside the table.
"A drink? Yeah, sure." Kenma’s voice sent a shiver down your spine again, and you straightened up with an even broader smile.
"Fun! Cool, cool, cool- The student bar?"
"I've only been there once or twice before, never saw the charm." The student bar had a certain vibe that didn't fit him when he just wanted to drink. A lot of people were there to socialise with new people, and Kenma was not interested.
"The beer is cheaper there," you said in a sing-songy voice to try and convince the handsome man. Kenma wasn't entirely convinced, but if you wanted to go there, then he wouldn't argue.
"Lead the way."

I didn't know but thanks Athena
idk whether this is stupid or interesting for my au/rewrite its js a random idea i had but like
i hate that thronecoming is like at the end of the year bcuz homecoming usually at the start of the school year; so, im gna move it to the start of the school year
also bcuz my rewrite focuses on how a lot of ppls stories have already started, i think thronecoming is where those whos legacies have already started sign the book, either in first or second year. but i also want to highlight the seniors a bit more and give some development on what they do bcuz we get none of that in the show, so im thinking the parade is seniors ++ those who r gna sign.
so basically bcuz apple's story has alr started in my rewrite, she signs during thronecoming. raven isnt required to sign bcuz her story hasnt started yet, but bcuz she's part of apple's milton pressures her into signing then. so thats when the whole "im going to write my own destiny" legacy day scene would end up happening. it also provides a bit of explanation on why the royal/rebel fight is rlly strong at the start then fades away in canon, bcuz the like main/actual/real legacy day where 2nd years whos stories havent started yet pledge to follow them in the future happens in like ~marchish.
this might be like really stupid and changes the entirety of canon but idk its a rewrite and its mine so im changing a fuck ton of stuff but i wanna know if anyone else has opinions.
oh also cedars revealer rays showing the book was fake wld happen on legacy day.

Hi, I've been following you for a while now and I really like your blog! Today Tumblr showed me a screenshot of the "my name is Olivia" poem because you liked it. The poem makes it sound like the term "cisgender" is somewhat derogatory, am I misunderstanding it?
well, the reason i reblogged that poem (and i suspect why several mutuals did too) was because i found it amusingly naive and self-centered, as well as extremely generic.
see, there's a certain type of immature and sheltered person who also thinks of themself as deep, sensitive, and dignified. when that kind of person is also cisgender and heterosexual, they usually produce a very bad, self-righteous poem in high school about how their feelings and identity have just as much profundity as all the queer freakjobs who are having nasty sex ugly style and not coincidentally writing great poems that fuck hard.
a lot of people who are queer and trans and into poetry have met a lot of olivias.
god bless their clunky little cisgender souls.

back to school, back to school
As the familiar tune of Billy Madison's iconic back-to-school song echoes in my mind, I'm transported to a time of innocence and excitement.
Back-to-school season has this magical ability to stir up emotions and take us down memory lane. The memories of those early school days, adorned in fresh outfits and a backpack full of untouched school supplies waiting to be used, remain etched in my heart. The simple joys of childhood!
Back then, each new school year felt like an opportunity for a clean slate, a chance to start new. It's fascinating how time has a way of creating stories that sometimes unravel into unexpected twists, pushing us towards unforeseen experiences.
My own journey, once marked by being labeled 'gifted' by the school board at the age of six, took turns I didn't anticipate. Hidden beneath the surface were the struggles I faced – battling ADHD and dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic experience that I'll get into in a future post. The school board saw potential to accelerate me a grade due to my intellect, but my attitude and behavior held me back. ADHD was something that wasn't often observed in the 90's. If it was, it was generally diagnosed in boys and then a prescription for Aderall was thrown at them. Instead of looking into the root cause of my "issues", I was labelled a "bad kid" and overlooked for the rest of my educational career.
Fast forward to the present, I stand at the intersection of the past and future, now a parent to a remarkable four year old who mirrors not only my looks but my own story of giftedness and ADHD. Thankfully, there has been a ton of research regarding ADHD over the years which has provided us with many different avenues to assist her with obtaining the tools she needs to achieve her goals. We were presented with a unique choice: to propel her ahead a grade or to embrace the world of French immersion. Why not seize the opportunity to nurture bilingualism? She spent the last 4 months of Kindergarten completing half days in a French immersion program and witnessing her courageously adapt to this challenge fills me with pride and hope for the journey ahead. French is her Father's first spoken language, and a language used by her family members on a daily basis. I am excited for her to learn more not only so she can understand the conversations her family has, but also for her to develop skills which will prove beneficial in her future endeavors.
Back-to-school isn't just about books and pencils; it is filled with a whirlwind of dance classes, gymnastics sessions, swim lessons, birthday bashes, and school festivities. The blend of excitement and stress in these moments places me in a whirlwind of emotions that reminds me how grateful I am for the life I live.
As the school bells ring in the rhythm of life's chaos, I find myself treasuring every moment of this existence. Motherhood has given the privilege of watching my daughter unfurl her wings, learning and growing with every sunrise. Motherhood, something I never thought I would be able to experience.
On the threshold of another school year, we're ready to embrace this new chapter……Wish us luck!
