Part 7 of the Descisive Victory!(back to semi writes lol since normal chapter flopped)
Part 7:The Library of The Earth
-Clay woke up sore all over, with the sun glistening off of various surfaces outside and right into his eyes, forcing him up and out
-Before he could open his door and leave however, it was swiftly open up by a clearly giddy Obsidian
“TODAYS THE DAY CLAY! YOU AGREED TO GO TO THE LIBRARY! OH, DON’T WORRY, BRECCIA WILL BE THERE LIKE I SAID. CAUSE OF THE DATE AND STUFF! AND BY THE THREE MOONS YOU ARE COVERED IN BRUISES.” Obsidian squealed out before being overcome with concern, with Clay giving her a curious look before realizing he had massive bruises from yesterday when he and Autumn fought
“Oh, it’s fine. I’ve had way worse.” Clay told her to ease her worrying, with Clay recalling all of the times Kestrel had beaten him unconscious during “training”
“…Maybe, but I can still help your bruising a bit! Medical stuff is some of my favorite subjects! We just need to get you a cold compress, and while they won’t go away it’ll help a lot! Y’know it’s funny, usually mudwings, especially bigwings, would’ve just healed it off in their sleep! MAN, my bigwings did a number on you!” Obsidian said to him as she dragged him behind her
“…yeah, guess she did. But really, I’ve been beaten way worse before, it’s fine.” Clay said again, hoping that’d be enough this time
“Eh, alright! Just keep pressure off the contusions then!” Obsidian said, seeming to have already lost interest while she took her and Clay to the front and took a turn towards the castle library
Before she could get far however, Clays bodyguard “Mud”(aka Glory) joined them, with Clay noticing a large bruise on where Autumn launched her with her own spear.
“Ah yeah, I guess you would have to come with?” Obsidian said as she saw the slightly limping guard
“Are you okay?” Clay asked her
“I’m fine. If anything, I should be asking you that question…” Glory stated to Clay, looking him up and down.
“Heh, I think we both know the answer to that right?” Clay joked, with Mud simply looking down almost ashamed, with Clay patting her on the back with his wings to try and passively reassure her. “Hey, there’s nothing to beat yourself up over. Trust me, things are gonna work out.” Clay told her, making Mud slightly smile
“…You guys realize we’re just going to the library right?” Obsidian asked, ahead of them
“Heh, yeah, just assuring them about how your bigwings kicked our tails.” Clay said, trying to lighten the mood
“Ha! She did! But hey don’t feel too bad! You got a good cheap shot in before Queen Moorhen stopped your fight! And besides, there’s no shame in losing to Autumn, I mean, I once saw her knock one of Burns teeth out when she was only 4!” Obsidian said, continuing to boast about her bigwings as Mud and Clays mouth simply became agape at Autumns ridiculous strength, with Mud almost turning into her classic green Glory self from the surprise before putting her scales back under control just in time.
“Anyways! We should keep moving!” Obsidian told the two, as they continued towards the Mudwing library
**
Clay and Glory did…not expect much from the mudwing library, assuming that Obsidian had gotten her knowledge elsewhere, or that it’d be a simple large bookshelf
Instead, they were greeted with a large hall that was about 1/5 of the royal palaces overall volume, with walls of scrolls that were larger than some city gates, with numerous areas for reading, resting, or casual recreations. Including dozens of small pillows and blankets for dragons to rest upon
“So this is the Mudwing libary…” Clay thought out loud, even though he was never the type to have much if any interest in scrolls, even he couldn’t help but feel amazed. He also couldn’t help but slightly smirk thinking of how giddy Starflight would be if he was here.
“Ohoho my dashing Clay! you’re finally here!” Clay heard as he and Mud turned and saw Breccia, who when she approached them tossed Mud halfway across the vast library into a bunch of pillows to be closer to Clay.
“I knew you’d show of course! Now we can have actual pleasantries in this bore of a place!” Breccia spoke, grabbing Clay by his arm, only for her to be grabbed by her tail by Obsidian, who pulled both her, and by proxy Clay, closer towards her.
“Oh nonono! This day was MY idea! And you aren’t getting out of it that easily!” Obsidian stated, as she hopped onto a sliding ladder. “Now just follow behind me! I’ll try and find a suitable scroll for you!”
Obsidian then slid across the library as Breccia tried to keep up, with Clay doing the same, but trying to get closer to Mud after she had gotten tossed across the library. He saw her near the center close to a piano, but before he could go to her, he was pulled back by Breccia.
"Now now my dear Clay, if I have to sit by my sisters hyperfixations, so do you." Breccia told Clay, while Obsidian came down, with two different scrolls, one much more packed than the other, as she then handed Clay the smaller one.
-Obsidian then explained to Clay it was a simpler scroll, due to her wanting to help him work on his literacy skills, due to suspecting he didn't receive the best education from his guardians, especially that "Yellow bellied weak coward who would eat his own tail than protect children you mentioned" who probably simply rambled on about subjects instead of proper explanation, she also told Clay she could ask Mire to teach Clay proper fighting techniques, saying he'd be a much better teacher than that "Whiny, angry, overly violent moronic smoke filled brain having brute who couldn't even protect her two kids you mentioned"
Clay respectfully declined the fighting teaching, but was happy to let Obsidian teach him, though he felt another time may be better. Obsidian then handed him the much larger scroll, which Clay opened and realized was a visual medical scroll.
"It should be easier to understand than something with more wording to it, basically just follow the visuals and you can actually learn a lot! I used it myself a few years back, it was one of the first scrolls I read!" Obsidian explained, with Clay simply looking again at the scroll that completely filled his palm, and of how simultaneously surprised and not surprised he was that Obsidian had read it as one of her first scrolls.
"Of course I read at a much, MUCH, higher level than a medical picture book now, but I doubt you'd be interested in those much. I mean just look at my own sister over there!" Obsidian pointed at Breccia, who had not been paying attention, having gotten bored around the time Obsidian went into detail about the small scroll, and began jingling her bracelets instead.
"...If you want, I could say something to her." Clay told Obsidian
"Eh, don't bother, no one really cares about my interests, that's not going to change just because you ask." Obsidian told him, as she then went to walk away to grab a scroll for herself.
When she did, Clay thought of how he treated Starflight back then, ignoring his ramblings and interests…and how he never got to make it up to him before he was taken, and might not ever get to…
"...It wouldn't hurt to try." Clay responded, as he went over to Breccia to try and talk to her, when he did however, she already began walking away, with Clay following behind her trying to talk to her.
"Oh just shush for a moment my dear Clay! I have something actually interesting to show you in here." Breccia told him. Just before Clay could respond however, he saw a beautiful grand piano.
"...You have a piano in here?"
“Of course! A large place like this requires SOME entertainment after all.” Breccia stated, as she went up to the piano and beautifully played a few notes as she slid past it.
"The entertainment is the SCROLLS! But yeah, while quiet is greatly appreciated, some people felt having an instrument or two would be nice for everyone involved." Obsidian said in a slightly annoyed tone, holding 3 scrolls in between her talons, before grabbing a satchel and putting them in there.
"I myself am a beautiful piano player, my dear Clay." Breccia noted, as she put herself close to Clay, "Though I'm sure you could tell~"
Clay immediately backed away, putting on an uncomfortable laugh to Breccias advancements.
"...Say, is it okay if I play it?" Clay asked
"Oh but of course my dear Clay! IT would be grand to see how your skills may compare to my own. The only one better than me at the piano is Mire after all...and perhaps Autumn if she ever tried it, but she's always refused." Breccia approved, as Clay prepared to play, before Obsidian butted in.
"WHAT? But you were supposed to have fun with the scrolls..." Obsidian whined, as Clay then felt legitimate guilt, before getting an idea.
"Do you have any music scroll here? I could try to read those and play the songs."
"But...you can barely read???"
"I know what musical notes are, I just have to learn what is what and then get in the rhythms and stuff." Clay explained, as Obsidians expression softened
"Well...I guess no one but your twig of a bodyguard is here, so go ahead." Obsidian relented
"Alright then...I think I'll start with something familiar though." Clay told the two, before then pressing gently on the keys to feel what each sound they all made, before he began to play a familiar tune.
"The dragonets are coming, they're coming to save the day, they're coming to fight, for they know what is right, the dragonets are coming." Clay began to sing as he played. As he had, he recalled when he and many other dragons joined together in song in Scarlets arena, how they had all been joined together in their belief of the dragonets, of the prophecy, of the hope for a day where the continent would be at peace after a horrible 20 years of war.
And yet you failed them...
Before he could start thinking of the fates of those who sang with him, Clay decided to preoccupy his thoughts with that of the reason he even played the song that night, of his favorite copper scaled dragon, of the nights they had together of talking about their place in the world, and of who they are...Three Moons, he still held onto hope he would see her again.
But you never will...
"The dragonets are coming..." Clay sang, and as he did, he could tell Breccia had joined in, yet he kept lost in his thoughts, thinking of others he may never see again, as declared by The Queen. The Most Headstrong Dragon he will ever know, The Smartest Dragon he considers family, The Most Hopeful Dragon to exist...Dragons he thought would always be with him, the ones he was taken from...And the one who he unintentionally pushed away...
Quit thinking about them, you don't matter to them anymore
"Coming to save the day..." Clay sang once again, with Obsidian joining him and Breccia in song, as he continued in his lost and shortsighted mind, as he thought of Glory alone, how broken she must have felt by what he said, something he had not even thought was anything more than an outstretched hand to be by another dragons side, not realizing he had pushed another aside...How despite it all, she seemed to come back, for reasons he didn't get why. After he ruined everything, what made her decide to stick by him.
perhaps she pitied you
That must had been why, what other reason could their be. He failed those dragons, he failed Peril, he failed everyone. That had to had been the one reason-
Just then, he felt a new, familiar dragon sit by him, their tail wrapped around his, their tale growing alongside his even now. It was then, Clays thoughts began to calm, to focus not on his failures, but on what he can still do. He can stop this war, whether its Moorhens planned path, or his own. Whether he has to become something new, or stand by who he is. Whether he is more or less than he thinks, he will do everything he can to stop this war. For those dragons in the arena, for Peril, for Tsunami, for Starflight, for Sunny, for Glory, for all of Pyrrhia.
#(saying this like you’ll know when i’ll be done 😭)#<—prev#eh I’m sure you’ll be done in about 30 or so minutes
