"Good. I know some officers tend to feel brave during my longer absences." Brave or stupid. Which quantifier was entirely dependent on just what was being attempted, though it usually broke down into two categories; competition or the abandonment of ones post. A competitive nature she could forgive, encourage even, desertion, however...

Finally, her gaze fell on the other, looking them over once before meeting their look, "And you? No...personal troubles to speak of?"

Was definitely tempted, but no. As much as Ren likes to try and bring something lighthearted to the table, she also prefers to respond to serious questions seriously.

Honestly if Ren saw Makoto getting this much attention in high school she probably wouldn't have asked her out until way way later- the idea of being another person burdening Makoto with her feelings would be almost insurmountable
