merlin whispering “don’t let him get too close”, already the advisor on arthur’s shoulder when society says he really has NO BUSINESS being so, and arthur listening and drawing his sword and warning uther. okayyyyy.

#SO much going on here.#i’m kinda fascinated by how little merlin’s magic actually seems to have to do with arthur #saying ‘there’s something about you merlin’ in 1.01 #like. there’s that subtle hint of some sort of sende #sense #and the narrative definitely tries to frame it that way #but you when you look at the actual events of these first 2 eps #arthur seem to like. get woken up . almost. to a degree #by country boy merlin absolutely not knowing or caring what his ‘place’ is considered to be in camelot and saying and doing #whatever needs to be said or done.#i know there’s a lot of tension in this ep and the show in general about merlin not being honest with arthur #(which. yeah we don’t have time for all that right now)#but like #in many ways he (and gwen actually. i think they both remind him of wach other in this way) is one of the Most honest people with arthur #willing to believe especially as time goes on that he’s well-meaning #but still being willing and able to say when he’s wrong or not seeing something or listening #idk idk #merlin rewatch #merlin x arthur #* mine #textpost #1.02 valiant #tag meta

#I'd rather not clutter the caption so I'll ramble a little in the tags #HitW is short but special to me as it represents and encapsulates some hard life experiences I was going through at the time of its creatio #Ofc in a more metaphorical manner! but. was talking with a friend about how some of dunmeshi fаndom misunderstands kabru's initial feelings towards laios.

to sum up kabru's situation via a self-contained modernized metaphor:

kabru is like a guy who lost his entire family in a highly traumatic car accident. years later he joins a discord server and takes note of laios, another server member who seems interesting, so they start chatting. then laios reveals his special interest and favorite movie of all time is David Cronenberg's Crash (1996), and invites kabru to go watch a demolition derby with him

General fascination with creatures and their behaviours.#This is a man who is would not be a furry per say but would own a fursuit for the fascination of the craft.#Laios is the guy in the forums rating people's hybrid fursonas for nothing but the love of creatures.#Dog Laios would use his powers to go into dog-free restaurants.#That human impression is so good. One might say 'Woah who's that confident hairy guy? Alright boss; in you go.'#He would be the no.1 customer of a New York Deli that has no legal business license but makes the best sandwiches in the city.#“Would Senshi run it?” I think he would also be a dog in this theoretical AU. Which...makes the scene even funnier actually.#A comic in which everyone is dogs was never something I thought I'd make but here we are!#Marcille is a borzoi (elf of dogs). Tolden siblings are golden lab-retrievers.#Senshi is a scottish terrier. Chilchuck is harder; I need to think on that one. Another terrier perhaps.#Happy Thistle Thursday once again. Sometimes you just have one of those moments where the progress we've made as a culture get thrown into stark relief. You look at something and go "Holy shit, that would never have happened when I was a kid."

Today, I had one of those moments when I realized that the teenage boys I'm working with are just. genuinely, openly enthusiastic about going to Build-a-Bear for their outing.

These are sixteen and seventeen year old boys! They just had a whole conversation about what to name their "cute", mostly new squishmallows! They're genuinely excited that they're going to Build-a-Bear this weekend and asking other kids to pick up specific accessories for them!!

Holy shit, that never would've happened when I was 16. None of the boys would have dared to be visibly interested - and neither would most of the girls! There would have been a million gay jokes and "Haha, you're a girl" jokes and "What are you, a baby?" jokes. Teenagers weren't even supposed to care about anything back then!

Less than 15 years later, and I'm watching three 17 year old boys treat all that as not even worthy of comment.

So let's call that a reason for hope. Even when the kids aren't alright, in some ways apparently they are alright. Go Gen Z, honestly. It's so lovely to watch you guys just openly doing and saying stuff that, when I was a teen, would've been a social death sentence.
